Profile

Many Yautja live alone, but a clan is always there to return to. For The Spirit Hunter, there is no such relief. A Yautja, exiled by the destruction of his clan, forced into the galactic void, alone, honorless, and with poor prospects, he must use the only skills he knows in order to build a new life for himself in the lawless hellscape that is the deep space.

Description

Standing at over seven feet tall, and strapped with tightly packed muscle across it's entire body, this is a beast fit to gnaw at your dreams for years to come. It's face is hidden behind a steel grey mask, with strange symbols carved into it. Under a wire mesh body suit and minimal armoring to it's chest, shoulders, and shins, and the lone modesty garb of it's tan loincloth, it's skin a pasty yellow, mottled with black spots. It's hands and feet have long, claw like nails, as black as the clacking dreadlock like spines descending behind it's head. Attached to it's forearms are what appears to be some sort of metallic bracers, with some form of tac-pad on the left one. If observed closely, the makings of sharp, jagged blades protrude from these bracers behind the hands.

History

The hunter now known as The Spirit Hunter was born on an unnamed planet in the deep reaches of space, just one of hundreds of pups whelped that year by the Cunning Death clan. As the years passed, the young hunter to be distinguished himself above his brethren, taking to his training as naturally as breathing with a talent not seen in his line for dozens of generations. Upon the completion of basic training, he and the other Young Bloods of his clan were sent off to hunt the great prey of the Yautja. The Brood.

After setting down on their chosen hunting ground, the Young Bloods quickly separated, eager to claim their trophies. The young hunter was the last to return, having spent three long days stalking the greatest prize the planet had to offer. One of the Firstborn, true born of the Empress herself, and masterful assassins by any measure. The beast did not go down easily, but in the end, the young hunter claimed his trophy. When he returned to the ship however, he found disaster.

Four of the five other Young Bloods had been infected by The Brood, the parasitic aliens seizing control once returned to the ship. When the young hunter returned, they were just finishing torturing the Leader to death, having taken the small crew by surprise, losing only one of their number in the process. The young hunter attacked the abominations without mercy and, despite severe injuries in the process, managed to kill them. Alas, this would not be the end of the young hunter's ordeal.

Upon returning to the clan's encampment, he found only devastation, the last few Brood attackers leaving as he arrived, escaping only due to the ship's cloak. There were no survivors to be found, no one to acknowledge the young hunter's Blooding.

When he took the matter to the Council of Ancients, seeking reprisal for the destruction of his clan, the Council refused him. His clan had been steadily falling out of favor, it's honor put continually in question in recent years, and the obliteration by The Brood, a race of prey, only marked them to fall in shame. The young hunter was himself admonished for not dying with his clan, only the circumstances in full of his absence saving him from execution. However, this offended the proud young hunter, who left without another word, taking the last ship of his now extinct clan and leaving Yautja space, going into a self-imposed exile.

For weeks he drifted, until eventually his ship picked up a signal, a distress beacon. The young hunter diverted course, intent on resupplying from the alien's misfortune, but upon arrival, he found himself beaten to the punch. A crew of space pirates were making off with everything of value on the ship and returning home. Both annoyed and curious, the young hunter stalked after them, eventually following them all the way to Mg'ali 4, a pirate nest run by the captain of the ship that preempted him, one Pirate Lord Xaraphon Carnerex.

After studying the planetoid from orbit for a few hours, the young hunter decided that this Pirate Lord would be a worthwhile hunt. And so, for the next two weeks, he tormented the pirates, picking them off one by one, until at last they were so broken as to attempt an outright flight from their own home, only to find the hunter's ship waiting for them. The cowards were quickly slaughtered by the far more advanced ship's guns, leaving only Xaraphon and his lieutenants, still cowering on the planet, having ironically sent out a distress beacon of their own. By the end of the day, the Lieutenants were all dead, and barely a breath after the young hunter took Xaraphon's head, arrived unexpected visitors.

Several Nova Corpsmen, stunned by the devastation, and shocked by the hunter's brutality. Believing the large brute to be after the large bounty on Xaraphon's now severed head, they attempted to offer it to the young hunter. And so, for the next forty-five minutes, the concepts of commerce, bounties, and bounty hunters had to explained to him, slowly and painfully. Upon finally grasping the concept, the hunter immediately began haggling with them, demanding more for his work, leveraging his large size and the evidence of his brutal dismantling of the pirates to extort a little extra from the shaken corpsmen, and setting him on the path of hunting for fun, honor, and now also profit. When asked for a name, so they knew who to send the the bounty to, the young hunter had to suffer through several translation issues, eventually managing to crackled out that he was The Spirit Hunter, a poor translation of claiming to be the ghost of a hunter.

Personality

By his people's standards, The Spirit Hunter is no more brutal, callous, aggressive, ruthless, or just downright unpleasant to deal with than any other Yautja....That said, he is brutal, callous, aggressive, ruthless, and just downright unpleasant to deal with. Despite his outcast wanderings, he still staunchly lives by the code of honor of the Yautja, and will not knowingly violate it for any reason, up to and including the cost of his own life. One minor difference between himself and the average Yautja, is his status as a xenophile. At least by the standards of his people in general. He still considers himself better than all of the "lesser races" of the universe, but unlike many others, will not turn his nosespace up at them out of hand, seeing a potential asset, or possibly worthy foe, in everyone he meets until proven otherwise.

Abilities

SUPERIOR BODY

Yautja are inherently physically superior to many if not most humanoids, possessing immense strength, heightened reflexes, amazing resilience, and tremendous stamina. Spirit Hunter in particular, can lift nearly three tons unassisted, or smash through several inches of solid concrete with minimal effort, survive multiple point blank shotgun blasts to the center mass, and sprint at approximately sixty-two miles per hour. In addition to all of this, Yautja are also prolific climbers and jumpers, being able to easily leap several dozen feet vertically and or horizontally from a stand-still, and climb up trees and buildings, with nothing more than their wrist blades and tenacity. Yautja also have extremely strong immune systems, rendering them nigh impervious to even alien bacteria. This isn't to say they cant be infected with something, only that it would take something on the level of a full scale biological weapon to overwhelm them. And finally, Yautja are minorly regenerative, able to handle many grievous injuries with little to no medical attention, including something as severe as being peppered with mini-gun fire, and shrugging off potent acids and even radiation.

Skills

SELF SUFFICIENT
Yautja often live alone on their long hunts, sometimes spending years between returns to the tribe. As such, they are expected to be largely self sustaining. This includes medical care, food procurement, fueling their ships, powering, maintaining, repairing, and replacing their weapons, armor, and equipment, and so on. The Spirit Hunter is able to do much of this....But not all. While he can easily repair and replace the dangerous but simple melee weapons of his people, the more advanced and powerful technology of the Yautja is beyond his ken. While simple maintenance is perfectly doable, if any of his plasma weapons, wrist computers, or his ship itself, are lost or destroyed, he cannot replace them, and will be forced to either do without, or make do with the inferior weaponry of the lesser races of the universe.

SURVIVALIST
As the apex predators of the universe, the Yautja have learned numerous means of adapting to hostile environments. The Spirit Hunter is most at home where most of his people are, jungles, and other such hot and humid climates. However, he is also perfectly capable of surviving in arctic, desert, urban, aquatic, and wasteland environments, among others. However, without either his bio-mask or a special breathing apparatus, he will not survive an alien climate for long. For reference, a Yautja is capable of surviving in Earth's atmosphere for approximately one week without either device before expiring.

YAUTJA HUNTER
It likely goes without saying that The Spirit /HUNTER/ is an extremely adept hunter, but even so, here it is. As with most every Yautja male, The Spirit Hunter was trained from an early age to hunt and kill the most dangerous game in the universe, and more specifically, to successfully hunt and kill the most dangerous game in the universe, taking trophies to show for each worthy kill, using a combination of advanced technology, martial might, psychological warfare, traps, and virtually every other classic trick in the history of hunting. When on the hunt, The Spirit Hunter proves an expert tracker, silent stalker, and cruel tormentor.

YAUTJA WARRIOR

In addition to the hunting prowess instilled in every Yautja male, all are taught the ways of the warrior. The Spirit Hunter is trained to some extent in all the Yautja ways of war. But he is first and foremost a brawler, focusing on his melee weapons, perfecting the form to a science. In particular, his wristblade work is impeccable, and would be respected even among the Elites.

Resources

BIO-MASK
One of the single most important pieces of a hunter's arsenal. The Bio-Mask. In addition to providing them with a survivable atmosphere for extended periods of time in even the most inhospitable of conditions, the mask also gives them an extensive access to various visual modes, The Spirit Hunter's mask specifically offers a "Normal" visual mode, for perceiving the world in the manner most humans do, a night vision mode, capable of providing unobstructed vision in perfect blackness, a thermal sensor mode, picking up on heat signatures, ultraviolet, vibrational, and providing telescopic vision in all visual modes. A real time HUD linked to the Wrist Gauntlet tracks all manner of things, including targets once they've been properly tagged, ammunition for weapons synced to the gauntlet, cloak status, remaining energy, weather conditions, and a mini-map, if beacons have been properly placed to provide real time scans. The most important tools for the outcast however, are the Language Translator, and Vocal Mimicry functions, which translates the languages of many different alien species, and is capable of absorbing and analyzing new languages in real time, into the language of the Yautja. When combined with the Vocal Mimicry function, this largely bypasses The Spirit Hunter's lack of personal linguistic ability, allowing him to, disconcertingly, coexist in the universal theatre with the lesser races.

CLOAK
The most famed and feared piece of equipment the Yautja possess. A near perfect cloaking device. It requires little energy to maintain, will fool even advanced forms of optical observation without additional interference of things clinging to the Yautja to draw attention to it. The one downfall to the cloak is that water will temporarily short it out, and thus it obviously cannot be used in the water. In addition, for other obvious reasons, things that "see" without optical sight, such as echolocation, are similarly unaffected.

FEARED SPECIES
To most, the Yautja are an interstellar boogeyman, with few people having actually met one, and survived at least. As living proof the universe's apex predators very much exist, the Spirit Hunter can demand exorbitant prices for his services, and easily intimidate all but the most powerful, or most suicidally stupid, of beings with little more than the extension of a wristblade and growl.

HUNTER'S ARMOR
The armor of a Yautja is an extremely personal thing, despite how little is often used. The Spirit Hunter's armor is hand crafted by him to fit him and him alone. Despite it's size, it weighs over three hundred pounds, and is able to shrug off blows less powerful than what would be needed to punch a hole in an attack fighter with ease. Despite it's weight, The Spirit Hunter is able to move around largely unhindered by it due to it's strategically minimal covering. Under the armor, and covering the Spirit Hunter's body overall, is a wire fishnet like mesh. The mesh is heated to keep his cold blooded body warm in even the most extreme temperatures, and is hot to the touch of Humans on even the lowest setting.

HUNTER'S ARMS
What would a hunter be without any weapons?...Destitute. They would be a destitute hunter. The Spirit Hunter wields many of the traditional weapons of the Yautja....But not all of them. In total, he possesses, but may not necessarily have on his person, a Combistick, a telescopic spear that is light enough to be accurately thrown long distance, but is durable and sharp enough to puncture steel, replaceable at significant cost and time. A supply of smartdisks, shuriken, electroshock bolas, mines, remote bombs, and netgun cartridges, of which only the shuriken and net gun carts are replaceable. A net gun launcher, easily replaced, but only with access to ship. A single, somewhat battered Burner, a Yautja plasma assault rifle, capable of easily killing even the infamously durable Yautja. And lastly, a pair of wristblades, approximately eleven inches long, serrated, and able to easily carve up most any living thing they're plunged into, though they are markedly less effective against armored targets, for obvious reasons. While some forms of Yautja tech is nigh indestructible, made to withstand even molecular acid without strain, none of the Spirit Hunter's equipment is designed for this, as his clan fell before he reached a rank to earn such an honor.

HUNTER'S GEAR
You need the right tools for any given job, and the job of being the universe's apex predator demands only the finest tools. The Spirit Hunter possesses many of these tools, as any good hunter should, such as, a Medicomp, a Yautja med kit, capable of healing even the most grevious of injuries, including the extremely rapid regrowth of limbs. The downside is that it is unimaginably painful, and takes several minutes to properly prepare and apply. Health Shards, which are similar in function but much less powerful than the Medicomp, able to heal severe wounds quickly, and with much quicker use than the Medicomp, but not being nearly as rejuvenate as the Medicomp and not being able to regrow limbs. A flaying tool....For obvious uses. The treasured ceremonial dagger, for taking trophies and performing rites. A grappling hook, for reaching the few places the famed Yautja leap cant manage. A modest supply of tags and beacons, to facilitate the hunt. And finally, an Energy Sift, for recharging the power intensive Yautja gear in the field, albeit somewhat slowly and with a fair amount of noise. All of these are things The Spirit Hunter can replace, albeit at often great cost, except for the Energy Sift. Once it's gone, he wouldn't even begin to know how to build a new one.

HUNTER'S SHIP
De Halkrath Dteinou. Every interstellar hunter needs a ship. And the Spirit Hunter's ship, while obviously that of a Young Blood to those who would know what it is, and thus sub-par by the standards of the Yautja, is still far more powerful than most others in the universe could hope to match in single combat. It is fast, with a travel speed allowing it to cross entire galaxies in a matter of days, has a singular gun capable of obliterating the average cruiser in just a few quick shots, and boasts a a cloak superior to that of the Yautja's personal cloaking devices, rendering it utterly undetectable in the vacuum of space. It provides the Spirit Hunter with all the amenities needed to survive in the harsh universe, including a place to recharge, repair, and in the worst case scenarios, rebuild, gear. Her name means, The Shadow Messenger.

TROPHIES
This is here to serve as a list of noteworthy trophies collected by the Spirit Hunter:

  • The ritually cleaned and marked skull of a Brood Firstborn.
  • The ritually cleaned and marked skull of Pirate Lord Xaraphon Carnerex, criminal overlord of Mg'ali 4

WRIST GAUNTLET

The other most important tool in the hunter's arsenal. It is worked off of a combination hologram/touchpad interface, making it extremely easy to use, and resistant to damage. It's mainstay functions, default to each one, are it's control of the cloaking device, mask, sat-com map, weaponry, and vehicles, in the Spirit Hunter's case, his ship, the Halkrath Dteinou. The Spirit Hunter's gauntlet features an energy flechette modification, a comparatively weak short-range plasma shooter, capable of fairly rapid fire and a minimal energy requirement, and a heating laser, for resharpening the wristblades, heating them for menace and horrible damage, and for cleaning them after "work" is done. The laser is too short range to function as much of a weapon, but could be used for emergency cauterizations. The most important function however, is that it also functions as an extraordinarily powerful bomb. When the self destruct device is set, it charges for a time, and when the countdown ends, will take out an area roughly equivalent to that charge, with shorter ones merely vaporizing the Yautja and their equipment, while longer ones could potentially take out a small city. If the device is destroyed before it can detonate, this will be sufficient to prevent the explosion. It can also be removed and thrown for offensive use for dire emergencies. The Spirit Hunter possesses three of them in total, and they are not replaceable.

Weaknesses

AGGRESSION
As with any young male Yautja, The Spirit Hunter is as quick to rile as he is too proud to back down, and requires little provocation to fight and kill. This impulsiveness is an obvious danger to anyone, especially one with no one to fall back on...

COLD BLOODED
Yautja are, in keeping with their semi-reptilian nature, cold blooded. While the mesh they were can keep them warm in even the most bitterly cold of places, without it they must be very careful to avoid freezing to death.

HONOR
As with any Yautja, The Spirit Hunter is cruel, devious, and brutal in his execution....However, it is not without honor. It will not attempt to harm non-combatants unless it is directly threatened by them, and will similarly ignore pregnant women and the sick or similarly already dying. In addition, should he ever give his word, that bond is harder than diamonds, and he will not break it for anything, unless the one he gave it to voids it by betraying him first.

INFRARED
The natural sight of the Yautja is infrared, which, while possessing many advantages, does pose several problems. Namely, that without his mask, the Spirit Hunter is virtually blind to anything with a masked heat sig, or of roughly equal temperature to it's surroundings.

MONOLINGUAL
While the Bio-Mask is able to largely circumvent issues with communication, if it is not worn it obviously cannot do this. Without his mask, the Spirit Hunter is capable of only rudimentary communication with the lesser races of the universe (IE, non-Yautja) and will struggle to understand all but basic attempts of the same.

OUTCAST
The Spirit Hunter is so named for a reason. He is a ghost, the sole survivor of his clan, cast adrift in the universe, a pale shadow to his tribalistic people. As such, there is no one for him to go to in times of crisis, no where to go to restock his supplies, and nowhere to call home when the hunt lulls down...

PRIDE
The Spirit Hunter may be an honorless outcast, but he remains as proud as any Yautja. No challenge will go unanswered, and no insult will go unavenged. And of course, no exploitation will go unpunished...

THE HUNT
The hunt is a sacred thing to Yautja, not even an outcast will dishonor himself further by violating it. Only worthy foes may be hunted, and only with honorable weapons. Moreover, once the hunt is begun, it cannot be called off until honor is satisfied, and a worthy trophy taken.

YOUNG BLOOD

When his clan fell, the Spirit Hunter was only just returning from his successful blooding, which would have granted him access to the higher teachings of the Yautja. As such, he never learned any of them, and is only versed in the things taught to the Young Bloods and below. Moreover, even those who willing to tolerate his clan less status will see him for what he shall likely always be. A Young Blood, unfit to take on any hunt with pursuing.
