Thrift Shops have such interesting things.
Date of Scene: 04 January 2020
Location: Bushwick (Mutant Town), Brooklyn
Synopsis: A picture is found that leads to a loose end?
Cast of Characters: Prismatic, Cannonball

Prismatic has posed:
It'd been a while since Alexis had come to Bushwick for shopping, but there were a few shops she was familiar with -- mostly for her clothes, occasionally for parts to fix things.

So when she had slipped into Third Chance Thrift & Exchange, it was a little like coming home. The smell of other people's clothing (washed and dried, of course), belongings cast off from 'their betters' and mixed around in a variety of styles and items ranging from 1980's ridiculousness to an old (and flooded out) N64 that's still leaking some sort of fluid, to a collection of 'music tapes' and 'VHS' gathering dust on a shelf.

The place used to be a manufacturing area, and there are dips and stairs that can trip you up if you're not expecting it.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie walks along hand in hand with Alexis. The young man smiles over at her, and says "So we want to start with some furniture or things that makes the place feel more ours. I figure we might see if we can find anything fits with Doug and Illy's tastes as well.

Prismatic has posed:
"Well, you know Dog and Illy's tastes better than I. The whole 'speaks every language' and 'raised in a transdimensional hellscape' are kinda beyond my understanding yet." Alexis replies. Her accent has changed; she's now using a more natural accent rather than the very scripted sounding BBC English, more herself, more Allegra around Sam.

"I know last I was here there were some crystals someone'd dropped off -- does Illya do the crystal thing?" she questions, passing by stacks of posters, some framed, some rolled.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "I don't think in particular, but she may like them, she is more into the whole real magic stuff. I don't quite understand it but do know her soul sword is a major part of it I think. She is originally russian, fell into limbo when she was like 5 or so.""

Prismatic has posed:
"You hardly know who or what you are when you're a wee child like that. I was born in Boston, so American by birth. Italian by law -- thanks in part to my father -- British in spirit, I suppose? Oddly the *one* country I've lived in the longest I'm not a citizen of." Allegra gives a small laugh, hopping down a bit of a staircase. "A Child of Many Villages."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and nods his head a bit to this and says "If you decide you want to become an american citizen, we can maybe head to LA to do it to keep ya dad off the track." He may want her to be herself, but is willing to work with her in her ways. "Doug was raised around here, he is the one person here that is truely local."

Prismatic has posed:
"Sam, I was born in Boston Women's, I /am/ an American Citizen." Alexis laughs as she begins to riffle through artwork. "I'm technically as American as you are. I could even vote -- if I wanted to show back up in Boston to do so." she adds with a small smile.

"Hm, what about some framed artwork for the kitchen area? I wonder if there's any old food advertisments..."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Oh, thought ya ment ya had lived here the longest, and your dad had made sure you were a citizen there and not here." He grins at her, and says "Possible, something with something sweet might be nice, Doug loves raiding ma's care packages.,"

Prismatic has posed:
"No, I've lived in Britian the longest. At my grandmother's estate, and St. Cici's. I've only been living in the States for... well, I was two-ish... and then three years -- so five years in total?" Alexis states, flipping through some of the smaller artworks.

She pulls a battered tin advertisement for Hersey's Chocolate Syrup. "Huh. Not bad..." she states, flipping through.

"Sam, why don't you look around and see if there's anything you'd like for our room?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and will lean in to kiss her, and head over towards the knick knacks to start with as he looks around the place. The tall man will squat down looking at this or that.

Prismatic has posed:
Alexis gives a wry grin, and reaches up to ruffle Sam's blond hair before she digs back into the smaller prints and items piled up.

As Sam squats, there is a pile of kitchen utensils that clatters, exposing another pile of larger, poster-sized prints, some ismply bagged against cardboard backers, others frammed haphazardly.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will take his time to look through these. He will take his time, and will even make sure to put them where Alexis can see them after he has scanned them. He is not the biggest art person but he does take his time looking through them.

Prismatic has posed:
That's when Sam might come accross a familiar face. The poster's bagged and against a cardboard backer. There's some discoloration and fading, announcing a Northern England Opera company review of Dido and Aeneas, with someone who looks very familiar. The gentle curve of her cheek and chin, the roundness of her eyes, her arms drawn up in song, the accompanying gentleman serious and sad looking. The print must be pretty faded.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will look for a date on the poster, he has been told Alexis looks like her grandmother and the fact the poster seems like it might have some age on it makes him wonfer a bit.

Prismatic has posed:
Can't pull one on Sam. The dates listed were for the summer of 1987, long before Alexis was even born.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles and will make sure he keeps this one, will check for more, before heading over to the cash register, and asks to pay for this and them hold it while they continue to shop not wanting it to get messed up.

Prismatic has posed:
The person at the counter pauses, and takes a look at the image.

"Oh! This is the second time someone's brought this up. A gentleman two weeks ago came through here, and commented on her looks. Asked me if there was anyone who looked like her around!" the clerk gives a slight laugh, ringing Sam up for a ten dollar print. "Got this in a lot of random junk from the entertainment sector. Old movie posters, the like. You into opera, Stretch?" he asks in a friendly mannor, adjusting his thick glasses. "I know the girl you walked in with would raid my sheet music bin. She's a treasure. Always polite!"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Somewhat but to be honest more into the girl ah walked in with." He offers a smile, and says "You said someone else looked at it but did not buy it, could you describe them for me?"

Prismatic has posed:
"oh sure! I recall him. Bigger fella, not quite your height. Bit of a dark complexion to him. Didn't have the nicest shoes on." the old man recalls, and gives a soft hum a moment. "Said he was a collector and finder of lost things. Didn't have much to him. Cam ein durin' a hard snow a while back, so was wearing a big jacket an' scarf with a hat." he states, and he hops off the stool he was on, and takes a deep breath as he rattles through a box of paperclips and screwdrivers and someone's abandoned volkswagon beetle keys, and pulls out a card.

    'MASSIMO De VITIS
    COLLECTOR ANTIQUE
    ORDER BY ST. ANTHONY
    +39 0114 89454

Alexis sees Sam up at the counter, and she calls out curiously "Did you find something?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "A bit of a surprise will show you when we get ready to go hon." He offers a smile, trying to hide any worry. He will ask the older gentleman, "Mind if I get a copy of that, and did you think of anyone who looked like it to tell him?" He does look for camera and people watching now.

Prismatic has posed:
"I trade in hard, material things, my boy. And people come to Bushwick for two reasons: because they have nowhere else to go, or because they want to be hidden." the man states, not unkindly, and hands the card right over to Sam.

"I don't trade in people. Especially," he motions over to Alexis, "not the good ones, like you an' her. I've got an eye for people, boy."

He settles back onto his stool, wood and body creaking alike.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie offers the man a smile and says an honest "Thank you. She is a really good person. " He smiles over at her, and the love can be seen for her. "Anything else come in related to this show with the group of stuff?" He asks as he pockets the card.

Prismatic has posed:
"Haruum... no, not like that. Some movie posters. Mostly European horror. Some Russian rebellion stuff, but that tends to go quickly online. This one though?" he motions to the picture. "No one likes opera. Except some anti-human types, but so's the way. Did you know, there was an opera in the 1930's that employed only blacks? Why, it was a complete mess of the societal constructs at the times to do so, nearly was shut down before people could even see it! Now-a-days, though, who doesn't know Porgie and Bess?" Famous show, experienced a big revival oh... fifty some-odd years ago, boy."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, a bit and says "Ah did not grow up big into opera, but have found a good reason to learn more. If you get anything else in that has this lady in it, would you put it aside for me. It is something that she will like, and Ah want to treat her when I can."

Prismatic has posed:
"Heh, a proper gentleman you must be then. She does bear a resemblence, doesn't she?" the old man states, and looks to it with a fondness. "I'll keep an eye out for other items. Do you have a card, young man?" the gentleman asks, adjusting his glasses a moment.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will give him one for the club not the school. "Here is one and if that guy comes back, be careful, and if ya can let me know. Ah got a feeling he aint a good guy, and not sure if he will try to convince you for info."

Prismatic has posed:
"Haruumph." the man takes the card, and looks at it a moment before tucking it away, not in the box with the random assortment of things, but with his personal items, dropping it into his safe.

"As I said, Mr. Guthrie, people come into Bushwick because they either have nowhere else to go -- or they wish to be forgotten. He's not one of us." he states, then takes off his glasses, pulling a hankercheif out to clean them.

"And sometimes, we do have to look out after our own."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Well, there is a third reason people will come here, and that it to help and look out after our own as well." He will nod to the man and says "I am going to look around a bit more, we are trying to find a few things that will make our place feel more like us."

Prismatic has posed:
"Oh! So when can we expect you to come by looking for cribs and toys?" the old man inquires, and just gives a bright grin. Alexis comes up with a little basket, with it containing an old 11x17 advert for a Kentucky Bluegrass country festival from the late 90's, in a rustic frame, an antiquie cow-shaped milk pitcher, and a cheery cookie jar in lavender.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles a bit and says "Well might be looking for some toys if some of my brothers and sisters come visiting, but don't think we are looking at cribs just yet.' He grins and says "Ah found something special hon." He will show her his find as the man tallys up the price.

Prismatic has posed:
"Oh, my god...." Alexis pauses, and she looks over the image a moment.

And Sam might mark that her fingers begin to turn blue.

"Sam, that's my..." she trails off, giving a slight cough. "Dido and Aeneas. An old English opera... I was reprising the role when..." she trails off, tears welling up in her eyes a moment as she brings her hands up to cover her mouth, and gives a squeaking sound comes to her.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles and says "This guy seems a good guy hon, he can see the resemblance, and aint telling no one. I think he might be biased to one of his good music customers." He will put an arm around her, and will move to carry the other things and let her carry the poster.

Prismatic has posed:
"... Sam, I bought most my my clothes, my air mattress, everything through him!" Alexis states quietly, and rubs the back of her head, before she picks up the poster, holding its aged paper very carefully as she walks.

"My god, this might have been when my grandmother was my age."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to her, and says "Ah think she was probably early twenties unless the picture was older when they made the poster." He grins a bit and says "Is it weird if Ah say your grandma was hot?" He grins at her.

Prismatic has posed:
"Considering I look like her, probably just a *little* awkward." Alexis confirms, and she looks at the poster.

"... In my room, at Saint Cici's, I had this poster. A reproduction, anyway. This is one of the originals. You can tell, because there's no white edging to it, the ink's all the way." she states as she carries it quietly. "This was her first starring role, as a young woman. My great grandmother and grandfather were also opera singers, but my grandmother married into money, and partially into nobility." she gives a quiet smile as she runs her fingers over the oh-so-familiar face.

"About the only difference is she was much taller than I. I inherited my father's short stature, alas." she gives a small smile.

    "... I miss her."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will walk with her, and says "We should go see her hon, Ah think she would want to see you. How old is she?" He hates to play that card but he is concerned.

Prismatic has posed:
"Hale and healthy as a horse. We're long lived." she states dryly, answering back that card as she walks. She stretches her fingers a little as they go, but gives a slight frown.

"I've weighed that a lot on my mind, actually. Neither she nor my parents are getting any younger. Nor Nona and Papa. I should visit them... but... after so long, and I'm not even sure if they would accept me for what I am anymore, Sam."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie walks along with her, and says "Well Ah know she would if you remember Ah called her, and will wager Nona and Papa would as well. Heck your mom probably would but that might get complicated. Your dad, I would suggest if we meet him, we meet him in public where he is less likely to make a scene, cause he is worried about his rep." Once they are home, and she has put the poster down "You know a 'Massimo De Vitis?"

Prismatic has posed:
Up in the tower now, with the poster being set down, her jacket slipped away into a closet and her scarf being unwound, she puses, and looks over at Sam and gives a wince at the name.

"That sounds like a pornstar name." she states plainly, "Massimo means 'The Greatest'." she gives a slight shrug, "I'm afraid I don't know anyone by that name, no. It's rather old fashioned. Why?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will pull out the card and offers it to her to see "Looks like someone using that name is looking for you. The store owner said he was there a couple weeks ago asking about someone who looked like your grandma, but he did not tell him anything."

Prismatic has posed:
Alexis pauses, and she stands up a little straighter, taking the card. She turns it over in her hands, and she looks at it.

"It's an Italian number." she states softly, looking it over. "And the county code is for Rome." she wrinkles her nose. "But I don't think I know anyone in Rome."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "You want me to go buy a prepaid over in jersey and bring it back so you can call?" He will offer. He stands close to her, and rubs her back. "whats the order of st anthony?"

Prismatic has posed:
"I'm going to guess a Monastic order? Sort of depends on which saint typically that they're venerating... you're going to have to ask someone more Catholic than me." Alexis replies, handing the card back to Sam, and rubbing the back of her head.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and says "Berto might know, he was raised Catholic but Ah aint sure how much he kept track of the saints. Ah sorta figured was someone tracking you for ya dad or grandma, want me to get the phone?

Prismatic has posed:
"I... I don't know." Alexis sounds on edge now, walking. "Maybe someone got video of me. Someone saw that I was in New York, maybe it was the attack on the benefit I was at..." she shifts her weight around a moment, and begins pacing. "What if me being out in public even puts everything at risk? What if I get targete dor brought back to my parents?" she states, continuing to pace and then launches into a collection of beautiful Romantic language phrases that weave a tapestry of curse words. Doug might have blushed.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie walks over and takes her hands forcing her to stop. "Ok love, considering your dad's stance, I don't think anyone would target him to get to you. Your grandparents, well one they both sound connected enough messing with them does not sound smart, and if someone tried, I would be with you and we and the rest would protect you and them." He gives her hands a soft squeeze "Does not sound like your normal hate group type of thing to me, least not how they normally act."

Prismatic has posed:
"Yeah, well, not a whole lot of people know my father touted me as the best in /human talent/ for a long time. I got to be periferally connected to Italian hate groups for two years. Could just as easily be a mutant with a chip on their shoulder as anti-mutant." Allegra replies softly, though she does stop when Sam takes her hands, and she brethes out in a huff, and gives alittle stomp of one foot. "Ugh. I'm incredibly curious but now I want to just hide away in the school forever."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "I will protect you hon, I have found hiding is normally not a good thing, it just makes ya worry more.

Prismatic has posed:
"Hiding was working perfectly fine until I decided to take up dating." Alexis replies in a harsh tone, and then apparently realizing just what she said, she hitches a breath and blinks a moment, looking up at Sam and then just shaking her head.

"I... didn't mean that. Just after all that time being alone, suddenly I'm reminded that I have so many people I'm invovled with again. You, the school, the New Mutants.... everything, Sam." she breathes out. "It's going so fast now." and she leans her head against his chest. "And I don't want to lose anyone."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie leans in and kisses her hard. His lips to hers stopping her from talking and taking her into his arms. He holds her there for a few moments, and then breaks the kiss to look into her eyes "And now that you have all those you care about, care about you and you do not have to face any of it alone. You have people who will be with you through thick or thin. A guy who would face hell and more for you."

Prismatic has posed:
"... I really hope that you're not about to face Hell. That'd be dangerous, Sam." she whispers gently, and just keeps her head against his chest, and attempts to catch her breath, her ears and cheeks red, though her fingertips are still the color of stained blue glass in gothic windows.

"I don't want to put you through Hell. You would just punch your way out of it."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrielooks to her, and says "And bring you out with me love." He will kiss the top of her head and rub her back. I will support you love."

Prismatic has posed:
    Head-top kisses are always adorable.

Alexis gives a huff of breaht, and then straightens up as much as she can (being a foot shorter than Sam, it makes it a little difficult, and she gives a nod.

"I know you will, love. I know. I just worry is all." she states gently, rubbing his back a little.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "I know love, I know, We will figure it out together, and if they are a problem, then deal with that together.

Prismatic has posed:
Alexis gives a small smile, and just hugs against Sam.

"I'm working on getting used to that." she whispers against his chest.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie grins and says "I know you had to learn to handle things on your own, and now I am just making it al complicated, hopefully am worth it." He offers her a grin
