Date of Scene: 20 January 2020
Location: Kid's Home in Hell's Kitchen
Synopsis: Doc Samson visits Kid for another therapy appointment. Things go better than the first meeting, but something's definitely eating at Kid...
Cast of Characters: Doc Samson, Kid

Doc Samson has posed:
Leonard Samson stands on the front steps of the home of one Officer Orion, living in Hell's Kitchen. Samson lowers his hand after rapping on the front door.

"Well," he says quietly to himself, "at least I don't immediately hear anything being thrown around in there. That's /something/, I suppose..."

Samson checks his watch and shifts his weight casually from one leg to the other.

Kid has posed:
The Door opens, and Orion is there. He looks both relieved and worried to see Leonard. "Hello Doc...I am glad you could drop by again. Please come in. Jua is in the kitchen." granted the way he said it, the subtle change in expression, perhaps something had happened, who can say. None the less after Samson comes in, he would lead Leonard in, seemingly out of habbit.

Doc Samson has posed:
"Of course," the doctor replies, nodding as he steps inside. "Is there anything in particular I should know about? Whether it's something that's just happened, or whether it's something that's been happening since my last visit?"

He slips off his coat, folding it over one arm. As he follows Orion into the kitchen, he raises his free hand to wave. "Hi there. How are you doing?"

Kid has posed:
"That is the thing...I do not know. Ever since two nights ago...Jua has been, not himself. He didn't even bother argueing about you comming." which is saying something if Orion feels thats a red flag "And he won't speak about it either"

As they enter the kitchen, Kid himself was just a gorilla. Unlike before when he was all outward rage and even inward - he now seemed muted. Nervouse, even fearful as he kept concentrating on his mango, as if to he rather concentrate on that, than anything else. As Doc waves, Kid waves back and signs a 'Hello' back...and refuses to look Doc in the eyes.

Doc Samson has posed:
"Okay," Samson replies to Orion, patting him gently on the shoulder. "Thanks."

He nods with his chin at a nearby chair. "You mind if I sit?" he asks, the question directed toward Kid. "I was hoping to talk with you a bit, if that's alright. You look like something's bothering you. What's been going on?"

Kid has posed:
After a quick sign from Jua...Orion pats Samson and says "..I'll be in the living room" and he quietly shuffles off to give the two privacy.

Jua nods to the chair...though would notable scoot away a few feet. He turns the mango over and over in his hands. He doesn't answer Samson question directly, but instead responds with another, signing "How do you know if a person is a person?"

Doc Samson has posed:
Samson nods, hesitantly, and then glances over his shoulder. "I'm sorry, I--I don't know sign language. If you want, I can call Orion back in to help translate." He scratches at his temple. "Although I'll definitely do my best to pick up what I can before our next visit," Samson adds, offering a thin half-smile.

Kid has posed:
Jua blinks and it seems to take him a moment to register what Sameson said. The gorilla was clearly distracted, and he holds up a finger before knuckle-walking back to his room. He soon comes back and was messing with the buttons on his watch. He again begins to sign, but this time a synthetic male voice follows, comming from the watch "I asked how do you know if a person is a person?"

Doc Samson has posed:
Samson nods, smiling, and he clears his throat. "Ah. Thank you. Again, I'm sorry for not knowing how to sign. I'll work on that."

He shifts in his seat, crossing one leg over the other. "So. Your question. How do you know if a person is a person? And there's the related question that so many of us ask: how do /I/ know if /I'm/ a person?"

Samson sits quietly for a moment, a finger on his chin. "It's a real dilemma, if we focus on philosophical approaches. I'm a psychiatrist, though, and I have to employ an empiricist angle. Observed behavior. Decartes said 'I think, therefore I am.' I build on that--I think, but also I see, I hear, I feel."

He shrugs slightly. "But does that make me a person? Or do the things I do to affect the world make me a person? How I treat others? How does one know he's a person and not a monster, for example?" Samson opens his mouth to speak further, but instead he shakes his head.

"What do you think?" he asks after a moment.

Kid has posed:
Kid signs "I..can talk...I just..." he snorts and let's it go. But the admitance probably ment there a reason behind his...seletive mutism. None the less he listened, it was alot to take in, and he seems a bit confused "I have no clue who that is. Still...I hear you." he is quiet a long moment again before answering

"I think...monsters can be people. As hard as it can be sometimes. Some...never get that chance though. They think, and feel...see and hear. Notice the world or what they can of it around them. But never able to touch it. It doesn't matter what they do...they'll always be the monster"

Doc Samson has posed:
The doctor nods slowly and repeatedly as Jua talks. He takes a deep breath before responding. "Yes. It /might/ be accurate to say that one of humanity's most fundamental traits is for people to treat as monsters any beings that don't closely resemble themselves."

He tilts his head to one side. "Of course, it's up to us to decide the extent to which we're willing to allow that sort of behavior to dictate how we go about in the world. I have a ... friend," he continues, looking down as he says the word, "... one who both wants desperately to fit in and be 'normal' and also to be himself, unchecked and unrestrained. He gets frustrated that he can't have both."

Samson looks to Jua. "Have you been treated like a monster by others recently?"

Kid has posed:
"I can relate. Though not quite sure if it is in the same way." he signs. None the less, the question makes him squirm and he bites into his mango and gnaws on it, for a few brief moments. Even offers Samson a bite of it.

He signs "Not quite. I been a monster all my life. I am used to it. Hell I hide it and express it as I want. But..." his fingers twitch as he thinks about it. "Guess...I was just reminded of how lucky I got. And how unlucky others are. I ate a monsters brain and it all just came rushing back. The past" he unconciousely was curling into himself, and was begining to eye the walls, the doors. He closes his eyes as if rejecting whatever there.

Doc Samson has posed:
"Of course," Samson says, his lips pursed for a beat before reaching out to accept the mango. "Thank you," he adds, biting into the fruit.

The doctor wipes his mouth with the back of his hand, extending the fruit back to Jua. "So ... eating a monster's brain. I think it's safe to say that it must have been a particularly traumatic event. You mention a lot of memories coming rushing back--how have you been coping with that?"

Kid has posed:
"Eating a Monster's brain is normal. Done it before" he admits as he eats his half of the mango between signs. "But this was different. It was...like me. Just angry, confused, wanting an escape." he looks to a nearby windows and signs "By keeping busy. They come back...and I just...try and tune them out. I don't like the past. It is stupid" a word he defaults too often enough.

Doc Samson has posed:
His eyebrows raised, Samson clears his throat. "I see, I think. How do you find yourself keeping busy, most often? What kinds of memories do you want to push aside?" He raises a hand briefly. "You don't have to tell me everything. I know it's something you don't /want/ to talk about. But perhaps we can figure out other and more productive ways to deal with these memories--so that you're not questioning your person-ness, at the very least."

Kid has posed:
Kid noted the raised brows and signs "Welcome to my messed up life" he emits harsh beastly chuckle. But it dies down soon enough. "I make things." something he seemed to always be doing. But than he follows up with "And break things. I used to break bones...break people who didn't get the hint. Sure I felt it, but so did they. When their running and fighting...I don't gotta think, don't have to slow down...don't have to care."

He chews on the seed easily enough. "Alot of it is the same. Being moved cage to cage, taking strange medicines...voices in the dark that I never did see. Guards, animal handlers...doctors. Always around, pushing in." he seemed to be breathing a bit faster and moves to open the window, feeling the cold night air as a wind blows.

Doc Samson has posed:
"You mention having eaten monster brains recently. While I'm interested to hear more about that, I want to ask--are there any other circumstances that have triggered similar memories recently?" Samson brushes a bit of hair back behind his left ear.

"For example," he continues, "you mention certain sounds and the feelings that come from hearing those sounds. Have you heard similar sounds recently? Has that also led you to remember these darker times in your life?"

Kid has posed:
"You" Kid signs to Doc. "Orion. What I hear and what I see are at odds." he hesitates "But...music and silence. It like everything somehow reminds me of the past. But none more than the violine and silence" he says

He hesitates a moment but signs "But as for similar sounds. Yes. Ever since I met that monster. I hear them at night, talking about their plans. Or what they need to do next. A constant chatter...and when not chattering it a low rumbling hum, like the kind you hear when large machines are being kept cool." his shoulders slouch "...I am afraid...that I am going back."

Doc Samson has posed:
"How often do you hear these voices at night?" Samson asks, sitting up in his seat. "Every night? Or only occasionally? And has Orion heard them, ever?"

He places his hands, one over the other, on one knee. "I know it must be difficult trying to reconcile everything you experienced before you met Orion with everything you've experienced since. Do the two of you ever talk about the stress you feel?"

Kid has posed:
"Every night, since two nights ago. They sound so real, like there right there. But...I learned long ago not to trust something I can't see." he signs to Orion. "I heard them other times...but never as loud since that point."

He gives a pause and tries to relax "No. I am already a big enough burdan, he doesn't need that crap in his life. Even if he is a cop." despite clearly careing about Orion, and Orion back, Kid seem to use the cop statement as an excuse to keep some degree of distance.

Doc Samson has posed:
"Do you normally feel like you're a burden to him?" Samson asks. "I'm willing to bet that he doesn't see you as one. A friend, a family member, but not a burden. You can ask him about that sometime. I think he'd be happy to tell you so."

He waves a hand and shakes his head. "But I digress. When and where do you hear these sounds? Orion--or even I--could try to listen for them, if there's a chance that you're hearing something either of us could help deal with."

Samson smiles. "Another central feature of humanity is that we try to help those we care about. Not only does Orion not consider you a burden--he'd likely feel /excited/ to have the chance to help you feel better."

Kid has posed:
Kid doesn't answer immediately. He just looks out the window and too the dark street lights. He looks back to Samson and as before he has a look of hate...more muted than before. But there...but there was confusion and fear too...even doubt. Kid was a whirlwind of emotions at any given point.

And suddenly, Kids walls where back up as he signs "I have to go" and he just climbs out the window, figuratively and litterly dodging the issue and the feelings that come with them.

Doc Samson has posed:
Samson raises a hand to reach out toward Jua, making a sound to begin speaking, but the gorilla's gone before he can get a word out.

"Ah," he says, clearing his throat and calling out, "Orion? Orion! You may want to know ... he's gone." Samson stands and steps to the window, looking out into the night.

Kid has posed:
Orion walks into the kitchen and looks out the window. He nods "...he does that. He'll come back by lunch tommorow. He always does" but it clear he was worried. "Thank you Doctor for comming out to see him again. I know last time was not the best"

Doc Samson has posed:
"Well," Samson replies, "I'd say this visit went better, but ... I'm not entirely certain that it did. He's got a lot that I think he wants to say to you, but give him some time to work through things so that he can do so."

The doctor offers a broad smile and slips his coat on. "I look forward to the next visit. I hope that you have a good evening. You're doing a good job of being a parent--or a friend, whichever you prefer to think of your role as."

Samson walks to the door. "Have a good night, Orion."

Kid has posed:
"I am still trying to figure that out myself" Orion says with a chuckle. He never thought he would in his life be responsible for a 600 pound gorilla. "Still...I'll be here when he is good and ready. Have a good Night Doctor" he tells Samson as he opens the door to let him out.
