A Quiet Nightcap
Date of Scene: 08 April 2021
Location: Rec Room - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Emma treats herself to a nightcap, and discusses the finer points of education and reading materials while catching up with Rift.
Cast of Characters: Emma Frost, Rift

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma is the lone occupant of the rec room, lights turned on but dimmed, not too dark to see properly, but also not bright enough to strain the eyes so late at night. The air's filled with the smooth tones of soft jazz coming from the stereo, interrupted now and then by the soft chime of ice in a glass.

That glass is held in one finely manicured hand, Ms. Frost is settled in a seat, swirling a dark liquid in a glass with two shining icecubes, the source of the chiming. She's dressed in a thin-strapped white dress with a low neckline, legs crossed at the knee and stretched in front of her as she lifts the glass for what must be one of many sips so far. It seems like someone's taking advantage of the late hour to enjoy a drink and some music, and is at least being considerate enough to try and not wake the students.

Rift has posed:
A red flare of light can be seen from under the door as the door opens, and a glowing woman enters, emanating a dull red aura with bright glows visible through her legs, arms, head, and heart. Her eyes wide, however, when she sees someone in the dim room. She then gulps as she stops glowing and looks like a normal redhead Asian girl again. "Sorry - I didn't think anyone would be in here..." she murmurs. "Oh. Miss Frost. I hope I'm not intruding."

Emma Frost has posed:
Blonde hair flows as Emma cranes her head to peer upside down at the door behind her, giving a small little shake of her head, eyebrows lifting at the display of light, "Oh my... on hall duty? So sorry, dear." She smirks lopsidedly and sighs out, "Me and Jea... Ms. Grey were out for an evening, and I couldn't wind down to go to sleep yet. And no, not at all! I was just enjoying a drink and some music. Nothing I can't do with company. Please, come sit down. I promise I don't bite."

Rift has posed:
Rift smiles. "That's not what I've heard, but I'll take your word. No - I'm an alumnus. I just live here while going to college. Just wanted to relax after midterms." She smiles as she takes a seat. "We keep seeming to have missed each other of late. A shame. You're very interesting and I'd like to get to know you better."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma laughs softly, lips spreading in a wider smile, taking another longer sip of her drink, "Oh, thank -goodness-. I was afraid my reputation as a wicked ice queen was fading. And of course, dear. If there's anything I've learnt here it's that once you graduate, you're no longer a student of the school, you're... oh, Jean would say something like 'a part of the family.' or somesuch." Her eyebrow quirks and she murmurs dryly, "So, do you drink bourbon? ...Wait, what's the drinking age again? I really should be able to remember this."

Rift has posed:
Rift smiles. "I'm a few months shy of that - talk to me in August." She then gets up ahd grabs a soda. "I'll try to refrain from using my powers right now - my glow will ruin the atmospohere... I really should try to control that sometime." She shrugs. "Anyway." She grabs a cold coca-cola and flops down. "I just can't sleep - those midterms were brutal and I'm still half-wild from it."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma laughs out softly, "Well, I must have done something right in those ethics classes. Very well, I'll buy you something special come August." She sighs out and shakes her head, "Nonsense, if the glowing's more comfortable, don't cover up. And oh yes, I -vividly- recall the stress of midterms and exams. Let me tell you, giant purple robots? Nothing on them."

Rift has posed:
Rift shrugs. "I'd much rather have dealt with giant purple robots," she mutters. "I thought that if I went to undrestand physics, and gravity, I'd understnad my powers better too. And I do. It's funny to learn all about gravity, and how I can at a whim disrupt the laws of nature in a small way. But it gets very VERY technical... some of it makes my head whirl."

Emma Frost has posed:
Blonde hair is brushed back out of Emma's face with one hand and sighs out, "Yes, well, fighting robots is usually simpler than higher education, or running a school. ...About on par with running an exclusive night club, really." She quirks her lips in a crooked smile and murmurs dryly, "And learning about the basis of your powers is good. You're in a unique position to both advance science and yourself. I imagine you can have conversations with Doctor McCoy that would make -my- head hurt."

Rift has posed:
Rift nods slowly. "Yeah... but Dr. McCoy scares me. He's... the smarteset person I've ever met, and I'm nowhere in his league." She shrugs softly. "But I do plan on being a physicist and.... I don't even remember what his speciality is."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma drains her glass, swirling the melting cubes around and murmuring, voice dripping a mix of playful humor and true concern, "Well, given his recent mishap with genetic experimentation and that 'cure' business, one would hope genetics or something similar with just a... zealous interest in physics." She quirks an eyebrow and murmurs, "I keep thinking I should scan a renowned ethic professor to help with next semester's course, but I'm afraid the irony would implode the universe."

Rift has posed:
Rift smirks. "Oh yes, unethically getting infromation on ethics is deliciously paradoxical," she cooooos. "You could just read a book on ethics?" she asks, eyebrow raised. "Or is that too boring?" She ponders as she sips her cola.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma sighs and shrugs, "Oh, honestly I read the most tawdry romance novels. I suppose I could add some ethics texts to my audiobook catalogue. I've been listening to some self-help ones lately. Breaking bad habits and such." She grins and gives a little wink, "I mean, I can't be giving you a bad example to follow, no?"

Rift has posed:
Rift smiles. "Perhaps you can lend me one. Some light reading would be lovely after that exam." She hmmmms softly. "The stuff I find on the Internet is so.... crude." She shrugs. "Anyway. That's besides the point." She hmmmmms softly as she glances at you.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma snickers softly and lifts her eyebrows, "Oh, darling. Tawdry is just -crude- but in a castle with fancy gowns I'm afraid. But if you still want some, I'll open my library to you." She pauses for a long moment, "I don't keep them in the -actual- library." She sighs out and sips the water from her melting ice, tilting her head thoughtfully, "Oh my, is there a point? Can I help you with anything else, dear?"

Rift has posed:
Rift shrugs. "I don't know. Maybe I'm too tired to think striahgt. BUt I couldn't settle my mind down." She smiles softly. "I think just reading a good book in a quiet room was just the thing - there's osme kind of party in the girl's wing and I could'tn focus. And it's a bit nippy to be on the roof."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma purrs thoughtfully, "Well, I could get you something to read from my room. And yes, let's not have one of our brighter graduates catching a cold or hypothermia because of the girls making noise. Would you like me to get the book and bring it back to you down here?"

Rift has posed:
Rift nods slowly. "I can expedite it..." she states as she starts to light up, and a portal tears open in front of you. "If you want. This leads to the staff wing righto utside where I bleieve your door is. I can hold it for a bit." She smiles as she gazes at you, winking one of her glowing eyes as she sips her coke.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma's eyebrow quirks slightly and she grins, "My. You're not going to use this to borrow the use of my jaccuzi unexpectedly, are you dear?" She offers a good natured wink as she stands smoothly, draining the last watered down drops of her drink and stepping through the portal without a hint of hesitation, just a confident sway of her hips and motion of long legs carrying her through.

Rift has posed:
Rift smiles. "Of course not - that would not be ethical. Only with invitation, of course," she states as she holds the portal. Without doing much else, she can hold it for quite some time as she sips her soda a bit more. She does hope that it doesn't draw undue attention, but it's a risk she's willing to take.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma comes back through a little under a minute later with a paperback, carefully taken care of, a very slight wrinkle to the spine, she's clearly read it a few times. She smiles lopsidedly and nods her head, holding the book out, "Well, here you are dear. If you let me know what you like about it, I can provide further suggestions in the future. And oh of course. Permission is important. I'd hate for you to wander through a portal into something that would scandalize you."

Rift has posed:
Rift nods slowly as she closes the portal. "Well, with this, I'm going to go to my room, put on some headphones, and read till I fall asleep. It was a pleasure seeing you again, Miss Frost." She is still addressing you formally - old habits die hard.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma nods her head and smirks, leaning in to whisper playfully, "Oh! Please. If you're borrowing a book, Emma will do fine if we're not at some formal event, hm?" She sighs out and nods her head, reaching over to the remote for the stereo and stopping the music,"Yes, I suppose I should go up to my room and either enjoy a soak and sleep, or just go straight to sleep. But this has been beyond pleasant. And shall I call you Ms. Alua, hm?"

Rift has posed:
Rift smiles. "Kitora is fine, Emma," she states, nodding. "Yes - that is better. I will see you another time," she states. "I wish I had a jacuzzi in my room. I guess the perks of the job, huh?" she asks as she tears open another portal, and steps through it. She waves to you. "Goodnight, Emma." With that, the portal closes, and Kitora is gone.
