Did You Hear
Date of Scene: 24 April 2021
Location: Jean's Office - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Jean hears of the incident involving Jeremy and comes to the school after hours. Shannon catches her first to fill her in on what happened.
Cast of Characters: Phoenix, Nightingale

Phoenix has posed:
The hour is growing late, but Jean's at the school after having been off for most of the day. She's only just arrived a few minutes before after having got an alert that one of the students had been admitted to the medical ward due to an incident on the grounds. She's just making her way in to her office to drop her purse on her desk and pull off the lightweight, hooded hunter green jacket she's got on over a black tank top and jeans.

"...good thing I'm only down the street." She mutters to herself for the sixth time on the drive in as the jacket is slung over the top of her chair.

Nightingale has posed:
Already waiting outside Jean's office door is one familiar winged student. Shannon is leaning against the wall near the door, her arms crossed and obviously planting herself with no intent on moving anytime soon. Her brows are furrowed, and she radiates worry and concern. She's in a plain white t-shirt, light blue jeans, and some old white sneakers. By the looks of some fresh dirt scuffed into her jeans, something was definitely up. "Miss Grey," she says by way of greeting, straightening up as she spies the headmistress. "Hate being a bother, but do you have a moment or three?"

Phoenix has posed:
"How long have you been standing there?" Jean asks as she gestures the girl into the office with her as she goes in to deposit her things. She doesn't much wait for an answer as she's then turning to face Shannon properly while asking, "I take it that this is in relation to why I'm here?" She asks as she easily picks up on the pulse of emotions along with new threads of anxiety throughout the school that weren't there before. "And potentially meaning I either don't need to rush, or that I need to rush faster, to the medbay?"

Nightingale has posed:
"If by why you're here, you're meaning what just happened with Jeremy down by the lake, then yes." Shannon uncrosses her arms, turning to follow Miss Grey inside, closing the door behind them with a soft little -click-. "Wasn't waiting -too- long, but it wouldn't have mattered. Would've stayed out there all night if I had to."

As she paces a little, taking a few deep breaths to calm herself and collect her thoughts, there is silence for just a few moments. "I don't know how much you heard, but the long and short of it is, Jeremy drowned in the lake. I was flying over and saw him, miss Carr, and Rogue on shore. Rogue was performing rescue breathing and she was soaked to the skin. Miss Carr was dry as a bone." A sigh escapes her, and she runs her fingers through her hair, trying to think things through. "This is where things get a little tangled, though. I know a little bit about Rogue's gifts, what little she's told me. So I can only imagine what she's going through right now. But it gets even more worrisome than that...."

Phoenix has posed:
"I didn't get any details." Jean remarks as there seems to be time to talk as opposed to rushing off. She doesn't sit like she normally may, seeming more comfortable standing with her arms crossed and listening with a mostly patient expression while the student fills her in. Mostly. Jean Grey does not have a reputation as a patient creature when those she cares about are in danger.

"Well, it sounds like he's alright, all considering. Otherwise I'd have expected someone to be calling me in a panic. Rogue will be alright. She's faced worse and in terrible circumstances. Don't worry about her abilities, in that she's adaptable, but I'll make sure that she's mentally alright later once I check on Jeremy. What else happened after you arrived?"

Nightingale has posed:
It's then that Shannon drops the little bomb on her that she'd been holding onto. "It's looking like Jeremy might have lost touch with his abilities entirely," she begins. "Thought at first it might have been that he just wasn't picking up on his phone because it looks like it went into the water with him. But when I gave him mine, he couldn't pick up on that, either." She sighs softly, shaking her head. "Nor on the tablet I brought him from his dorm, along with some towels and fresh clothes. I don't know what could have caused that sort of disconnect."

Phoenix has posed:
"It's alright, Shannon." Jean says to the girl with a quick smile and a gesture towards a mini fridge. "Water, if you need a drink. Rogue's abilities are touch-based. If she has contact with you, she takes into herself part of you - memories, emotions, and strengths including powers. And... your life force. Brief contact isn't anything to worry about, it's only the prolonged ones that can be harmful, even lethal. It'll fade over time and she'll be herself and Jeremy's abilities will return to him. Physically they should both be just fine from what you're saying, it's just needing to heel from something as jarring as near-drowning and power shifts."

"Is Jeremy still in the medbay or was he well enough to return to his room to rest?"

Nightingale has posed:
With a light smile of gratitude, Shannon does avail herself of the mini fridge, plucking a bottle of water from amongst its companions in their chilly confines. There's a light little snap as she twists off the top, and knocks back a good slug of the most basic stuff of life, letting the coolness refresh her. "Thanks. I don't know if he's still in the medbay or if he's in his dorm. Soon as I saw him settled in and the auto-doc giving him the once-over, I came back up here. Figured you probably got a message, just not sure how much you might have heard."

Phoenix has posed:
"Not enough, so thanks for filling me in." Jean says with a quiet exhale to let out some of her own tension. "At least this way I didn't have to go grilling anyone who's already had a long day. I'll go check on Jeremy first and see if he needs anything, then I'll swing by Rogue after. I'll catch up with Alexis once I've checked on them."

"Any other excitement I missed today?" Jean remarks with a gesture of her hand towards the school at large. "Nothing smells like it caught on fire, so that's something I suppose. Everyone behaving themselves?"

Nightingale has posed:
"Nothing that I know of, Miss Grey," Shannon replies, cracking a small smile. "I had some words with miss Carr the other day which she simply refused to accept, and even threatened Danger Room shenanigans if I didn't acknowledge my own hard work. Those words consisted of 'thank you', for teaching me guitar, which has let me work on my latest song." Pause. "Another song which actually stands a chance of going professional. So I tried to thank her but noooooooooo. The stubborn mule... and Sam didn't help any!"

Rolling her eyes, the younger woman actually laughs a little bit, shaking her head. "But other than that, no, I've actually managed to stay mostly out of trouble. Been enjoying taking up archery. That was a pleasant surprise right there."

Phoenix has posed:
"It's a good lesson." Jean remarks with a faint quick of a red brow and the ghost of a smile. "There will be plenty of times in life where you'll go unnoticed, achievements unrecognized, and compliments and appreciation ignored. Composure is a big part of any confrontation. You can rule a battlefield on grace alone. /Not/ that I condone you marching into battle, of course."

"Glad to hear you found some new hobbies. Keep it up. School year is almost done, so you'll have all summer to practice. As for now, I should head off and check on them. I'll stick around the school for a few hours at least in case if anything comes up."

Nightingale has posed:
"Oh, good, then there's time enough to make you a batch of macarons...." Shannon just grins impishly at Miss Grey now, having teased out that bit of information from her the previous summer, as to her favorite sweet. "...in the shape of Hello Kitty. As for marching into battle? Ha. I don't go looking for it. It'll find me soon enough without my doing a stupid and looking for trouble."

Smiling somewhat more than when she came in, she turns towards the door, nodding. "Mhm. My music will likely have taken off, and by July I'll be sitting for my EMT exam. Mind you, I still want to find a way to stay on here and give back. But there's another whole school year to figure out how."

Phoenix has posed:
"I may need cookies." Jean mutters in a tone of distraction as she flips up her wrist to look at her watch, which can be heard buzzing and the display showing a crimson X icon before switching to a message. "...gonna be a night, I see. Scott's calling the X-Men downstairs, so I need to run."

"Thanks again for filling me in. I'll probably catch Rogue there, but if you see Jeremy before I do please let him know I'll be on my way. If this meeting runs late, I'll check in with him first thing in the morning. I want to make sure he rests. Go get some rest yourself!"

And that said with a point of her finger and a quick smile, she turns to head for the door and towards the elevators. She clearly trusts Shannon to be able to show herself out.
