Cast of Characters: Star-Lord, Captain Marvel (Danvers)

Star-Lord has posed:
The Brood. It's a name that invokes fear in anyone sane that isn't a Brood. One of the oldest species in the universe... who are fittingly nicknamed demons.

It's been a while since they've actually invaded anyone... but the Shi'ar have had a very rough few months with them now. Sure, it's on the other side of the galaxy from Sol... but Brood are not a joke, and even if they never get to Earth... that's still millions of innocent lives condemned to torture and enslavement via parasite.

So.... it's not hard to see why anyone who has kept an eye on the matter would be interested... and with the Shi'ar not being very friendly, a lot of people have been contacting Peter for information, since the Guardians get around. A lot.

When Carol first contacts the Guardians, Peter has sent some coordinates a bit far out of Shi'ar space: interstellar space, to be specific. A No Mans Land sort of.

By the time Carol arrives, the Milano is 'parked' nearby, motionless.... almost dead.
Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol Danvers had seen the intergalactic reports and news lines. Everything was vague and promoted the sentiment that everything was perfectly fine for the Shi'ar. Nothing to see here. But that chorus can only be repeated so long in the fact of first hand accounts trickling out and getting picked up out side of official Shi'ar political or media outlets.

Carol had taken the first step of checking in at one of the Lantern staffed listening posts along one border with Shi'ar space. The information learned there was both limited and equally vague. But it was enough to indicate there was truly a concern and not simply another skirmish as it were. It pointed to something bigger.

On returning to Earth, Carol reached out through her Alpha Flight channels to contact the Guardians. She had heard they were involved and if anyone would have an opinion on whether the services of Captain Marvel could be of use, she guessed that they would at least give her what would be closer to an honest assessment of how the Shi'ar were fairing for themselves in this war. On being asked to meet with the Guardians, she agreed and made the arrangements to be off-planet for some time as yet undetermined.

Flying through interstellar space always made her smile. The truly wide open expanses. She could fly as fast as she was capable and not have to worry about suddenly needing to dodge an airliner or migrating flock of birds. Of course the creatures that migrate within the vacuum of space were almost always much larger and more dangerous to encounter at such speeds. Thank fully it was an uneventful flight she mused to herself.

Arriving in the area indicated, Captain Marvel came to a stop. Checking her comm gear she scanned the area. A brow arched on seeing the Milano appearing as if powered down. Easing closer she hailed the ship.

"Milano. This is Captain Marvel. I have you in sight."
Star-Lord has posed:
It takes a few seconds, but eventually a voice comes over the comm, "Oh, The terran woman? Goo-OUCH-good. Sorry about that, I'm doing some maintenance." The male voice remarks, pauses, then continues, "There's an airlock starboard. Cozy into it and I'll cycle you in."
Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Captain Marvel smirks to herself. "Something like that, Milano. Approaching now." She made her way closer to the ship, moving around to the indicated airlock. Once inside, she secured the outer hatch and waited for the crew to pressurize the chamber so she could enter.
Star-Lord has posed:
The airlock cycles... and Carol is greeted by what amounts to a space cowboy Terran with green eyes and a cocky smirk. His arms are crossed over his red longcoat, and he grins at her, "Well, I didn't expect to see any terrans talking to me outside the Titans."

Peter offers a hand for a handshake, "Peter Quill. Most call me Star-Lord. I'm the leader of the Guardians."
Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Once the inner hatch is opened, Captain Marvel steps through into the interior of the Milano. At the same time, the head protection she wears - much like a mask of sorts, dissolves away, disappearing into her armor, leaving Carol Danvers.

She accepts the handshake. "Peter. Carol Danvers. Captain Marvel, Director of Alpha Force and reserve Avenger." A shrug is offered, "It's nice to meet you. I suppose I have more invested in the galaxy than the average human from Earth. Most don't take time to appreciate how fragile the Earth is, or that there are far more complex workings to simply keeping the Earth orbiting the Sun, and the Solar system orbiting within the Galaxy. It is a lot like starting into a mirror reflecting a mirror. The rabit hole runs too deep so they like to just ignore it."

Another glance around the inside of the ship then back to Peter. "I'm half Kree. I have a better appreciation for the fragility of Earth's place in the galaxy and our responsibility to help the rest of the galaxy where possible. I've looked into this war somewhat. On one hand I can understand the Shi'ar refusing outside help and trying to contain this themselves. But on the other, the Brood on the move is one of those problems that should concern every race and creed within the Milky Way. Maybe beyond."
Star-Lord has posed:
As the helmet retracts, Peter gives an appreciative whistle, "that's almost like my helmet, except way cooler because it's on a set of armor." Peter grins to her glancing at it briefly, "Is that suit Kree too?" He shrugs then and looks back up to her eyes.

The inside of the ship that Carol can see is a long corridor of doors. It's actually quite like a submarine if a comparison is to be made, with the bulkheads instead of 'normal' doors.

"I'm half... something or other, no ones been able to tell me. All I know is I'm the only one who can shoot my element guns and I can fly in space without much trouble long as I have oxygen." Peter informs her. Then, he gives a 'come here' head gesture, "Sounds like you want to know about the Shi'ar situation. I've got the latest from the fighting on the bridge, if you'd like the starmap."
Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol Danvers smirks slightly. "It was originally. But I've made a number of changes and improvements you could say."

She doesn't seem bothered by the interior as much as being curious about what the starship was like inside. "Haven't seen a lot of M-class starships" she observes. She hasn't really had reason to.

A nod, "Oxygen is rather important, agreed." Following along with him, she nods. "If I can be of assistance I am willing to join the fight. I don't believe staying on the sidelines is beneficial to anyone." She looks toward the indicated starmap thoughtfully.
Star-Lord has posed:
The holo-projector in the center of the bridge is already set to the Raken system, and as Peter and Carol move into the bridge area, Peter plops down on one of the chairs and turns to look at the system map.

In it, Carol can see the Raken system, including it's sun. There are red and blue lines and dots all across the system indicating battle lines, supply lines, and Brood lines.

All in all, it's a mess, but the majority of the fighting is over Raken 3.

"As you can see, the Shi'ar have their hands full holding the line in Raken... but they're probing all along the border as well. Raken just happens to be the closest set of big colonies to their space."
Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol Danvers studies the projected map as she listens to Peter describe the situation. She nods, "Doesn't look good." She glances to Peter, "I heard that they essentially nuked one of their worlds from one of the Lanterns when I checked in at one of their listening posts? The Shi'ar are having that difficult a time that they would sacrifice a whole planet to try and slow the Brood down?"
