Catch before Closing
Date of Scene: 11 April 2023
Location: Delmar's Deli-Grocery, Jackson Heights
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Green Ranger, Sarah Connor

Green Ranger has posed:
Tommy was in the area, and he was trying to track down some garlic coil, cheese, and crackers. Most of the places he had googled were closing too quickly, but he had found Delmar's Deli-Grocery was still open, so he huffed it, rushing there, card in his wallet, a shopping list in hand, hoping to get through the doors before closing, since once you were inside, most places would allow you to buy, so long as you didn't dawdle. Making it, he took a moment to breath, hands on knees, trying to recover. One of the employees looked him up and down, "it's okay, we give everyone a couple of minutes extra." She was near the door, ready to start pulling the security gate closed. The would open it when people left, but weren't going to let new ones in.
Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah really didn't have an errand in this part of.. well.. anywhere. Unless you counted her usual looking for terminators. When she saw Tommy deke into the shop, she followed him in. Of course, she didn't have to catch her breath.

The deli was pretty normal as far as delis went. And as a bonus, this was a long way from her home to boot. Which had her relaxing - or as far as she relaxed anyway. Maybe she would pick up some assorted cold cuts for John.
Green Ranger has posed:
Tommy, having had a moment to collect his bearings, had a closer look at his shopping list, which was written on a piece of blue lined paper. "Okay, garlic coil, cheddar cheese, swiss cheese, brie, prosciutto, soppressata, and genoa salami." He saw the brunette come in after him, who also beat the deadline for people to come in. But he didn't think anything of it. She was far more casual about it. Reaching for a basket, he picked it up, but it was stuck, as they occasionally did, and he had to use both hands to separate it from the previous one. When he looked, some of the basket's 'teeth' had been bent, which was why it had gotten stuck. He sighed, breathing cool air at his forehead, which kicked up his dark hair.
Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah laughed softly to herself. Not a 'haha' laugh, but a sort of laughter that would be shaking her head at the younger generation. (Good grief - when did she get so old?!?).

"Here. Let me help you." And once she saw the damage to the basket, she reached down and got him another one. "Much easier. Here." And she took the first one away from him, and put it at the back of the baskets. "Maybe I'll use one too."
Green Ranger has posed:
It was nice to be given the help, though this wasn't his fault. He was trying to extricate the basket, only to discover that previous damage, to the one below or above, was causing the issue. But still, Sarah was calm and collected, while Tommy had tried to power through. Wasn't that the story of men and women? "Thanks, ma'am," he said, intending to be nice, but he did just ma'am Sarah Connor. If he was smart, he'd make a bee line for the exit for that one.
Sarah Connor has posed:
Ouch. Yes she was 'old' to the younger generation. But for once Sarah brushed it off. She had not seen a terminator for quite a while, and although she was not stupid enough to think they were gone for good, it still made her more jovial than usual.

"Try Sarah. When you use Ma'am I turn away looking for someone older than I am." At 37 she couldn't be /that/ old, regardless of how she felt.. could she? "What would you recommend here?"
Green Ranger has posed:
Tommy didn't think she was that old, but she was older than him, and she didn't seem like a miss, so ma'am seemed the appropriate term. She looked like she could be a mother. She still looked fantastic. With any luck, Kimberly might look similar when she reached Sarah's age. "Tommy," he said, offering his name, "nice to meet you Sarah." They were still near the entrance and exit, with staff getting close to closing it, locking the customers in until they made their purchases. "I don't really know, but it all smells delicious."
Sarah Connor has posed:
Tommy.

She squirrelled that name into her brain. It might be important someday. (Sarah didn't think he was a terminator. What with the catastrophe with the basket, and the eager way he introduced himself. Though she had been bamboozled before.)

"I'll ask them for an assortment." Though Sarah doesn't talk directly to him, but she looks around the deli, and the immediate neighbourhood.
Green Ranger has posed:
Of course, his real name could be something completely different than Tommy. He could be Armando, Dickson, or maybe Gerald. What about Philip? There were so many names, but yeah, this young man seemed like a Tommy. It just seemed to fit him. "That sounds good," he agreed with her idea, though it could also be costly. Sometimes they bundled everything and charged the combined regular price, rather than giving a discount on anything. You were just committing to buying more.
Sarah Connor has posed:
He did look like a Tommy. But then again, Sarah had been hundreds of names, and she was pretty sure that most of the people she had fooled weren't aware of the deception. As for the pricing.. enh.. she was expecting there to be a bump seeing that she was not from around here.

Either way, she was planning on paying cash. No bank cards for her - for many reasons.

What had her tapping her mental toes was the fact that Tommy was in front of her. It made her a bit paranoid. Also for many reasons!
Green Ranger has posed:
Given that Tommy wasn't as sure about what he wanted as Sarah, he turned to her, "would you like to go ahead?" He was a gentleman too. So that meant he must be a Terminator, because no one his age could be that kind.
Sarah Connor has posed:
She could ask him to use contractions.. Or was that only for angels?

Sarah stared at Tommy for a moment. She was beginning to think that something was wrong with Tommy. Maybe not a terminator, but something. But what??

"No thanks, you were here before me." And besides it gives her longer to figure out what is bothering her about Tommy. Tommy.. Tommy.. The immediate thing in her brain was Tommy from the Who's opera of that name. He was weird in the opera. But.. no.. he couldn't be.. Could he??

She stepped away from him to put some distance between them in case she had to defend herself.
Green Ranger has posed:
When Tommy got to the front, he placed an order, asking for everything on the list of items that Kimberly had mentioned, plus a few he had added. It would take them a moment to gather it up, and once assembled, he would pay for it, since Sarah didn't want to go first. He had also picked up some bread from the area of the store that was visible to the customer, and some sauce too for Swedish meatballs. It was an eclectic order, very much in keeping with what humans might buy. But that's what the Terminators want you think.
