Date of Scene: 04 November 2023
Location: New York
Synopsis: Firestar meets a guy who is definitely not Dracula.
Cast of Characters: Firestar, Vampirella

Firestar has posed:
It's not that she worries about the night too much as Angelica is able to handle herself in a fight in ways nobody should have to encounter. Still, she doesn't do a lot of walk at night since it's dumb to invite trouble.

She is heading towards her aparment complex and she eyes a few kids out trick or treating. It is Halloween tongiht and that makes it equally safer and weirder all the same. She smiles at a few kids that wave, but doesn't engage since she is a stranger to them despite intending them no harm.
Vampirella has posed:
Ross Anderson is a CPA. He's in his late forties; he's prediabetic and he can't afford health care at his job; his wife left him a few years ago and (he pretends he's joking when he tells people this) took most of his hair in the divorce. He is, in short, a bundle of misery and grievance on two legs, though that bundle--and those legs--is currently concealed behind the black robes, black hood, and vaguely Munchian face of the bad guy from those dumb slasher movies. The name was printed on the costume packaging but Russ, whose interests in horror lean wholly toward the supernatural and disdain the slashers, has no idea what the name is. He just calls the guy Scream Man.

The hunting knife in Russ's hand, the one that came with the costume, is cheap foam rubber with an eminently false gray paint facade. The one in his sleeve, the one that came from Lumea Urmatoare, is sharp enough that Russ feels a thrill of fear tightening his stomach as he imagines that suicidally thin edge pressed against his skin.

Russ Anderson, CPA, a man who had nothing to live for until he found a new religion, is glad the silly rubber mask hides how his eyes bulge and how his face sweats. There ahead of him is the bride, the redhead, a fiery mutant. Russ is many things, but he is not a bigot, and thus feels a faint sense of guilt that he has to do this to a poor mutant, who probably has enough problems without someone like him coming along. But mutant or not, she has a role to play for the master.

So he closes in on her from behind, walking fast but not running. The Lumea Urmatoare trusted him with the mission to retrieve her, and he means to do it.

Closing in, closing in.
Firestar has posed:
Angelica continues to walk down the street. She looks around as she walks, seeming to look at the buidlings she passes, but there is a little more to it. Initially she is unaware of her peril. It is New York though, so she is mindful of things.

Halloween stuff makes things a little more uneasy as she has way more people, hidden in plain sight all around her.

What most don't realize is the young woman watches reflections. Mirrors, windows, chrome bumpers, and such things.

Eventually, she notices the one in the Scream costume and the fact that the person is closing in. She sighs softly and after a few more moments, seeing the closing, she turns around and faces the person. She isn't going to pass off as a mortal kombatant, but her stance and the lightness of her movements says messing with her might not be the smartest of choices in life.
Vampirella has posed:
"Domn al tuturor veacurilor!" Russ yells ecstatically, or something like it, anyway. If you actually spoke Romanian you'd probably be unable to make out a word of it, but really, is that the thing to focus on here? There's a large man with a knife running at a young woman on a New York street, so, in a show of solidarity that makes New York the greatest city on Earth, the passersby do the noble and heroic thing: they scatter like a flock of pigeons, screaming.

'Don't let her burn me,' Russ is thinking frenziedly as he closes the distance, not a fast man but moving like a landslide, huge and impossible to turn aside. 'Master, I just want to resurrect without burns, please oh please--'

The knife comes down in vicious a crescent, seemingly aimed at Angelica's left shoulder. Streetlights throw orange flashes off its polished surface.
Firestar has posed:
The knife. Worse than a gun in most ways. I bullet hits and stops. The knife will do more once the hit occurs. She waits for the swing to come down and takes a side step. She gets mostly out of the way, but the blade knicks her arm a little. She hisses and takes two steps back,"Son of a..." she growls.

The man clearly has some mental issues so when he turns back her direction, she lights up night. A flash of light will blind him for a second and by the time he is clear sighted again she is about 12 feet in the air, Firestar costume and mask in place,"One chance to stop." she warns him.
Vampirella has posed:
Russ Anderson, CPA and follower of the one true god (he does not think of himself as a cultist: almost no one does, at least not until the arraignment begins), is in the middle of another "Domn al" when the light blinds him and she's beyond his reach. He could throw the knife at her, but even if it hit her sharp side first, what next? If she dies, she's no good to anyone, and if she lives, she can hurt him however she wants.

Thank god for the Ghostface mask that hides how hard he's thinking right now.

"You have to come with me," he hears himself saying, and is pleasantly surprised that he sounds much more reasonable than desperate. "There's something in your blood. It must be set free."
Firestar has posed:
Firestar hovers there and shakes her head,"Oh I know better than you what is in my blood." she replies dryly. She points her index finger at him and a red maser beam strikes the blade. Radiation from her power makes the metal hot on the blade and the hidden tang of the blade heats the handle as well.

In seconds the handle is as hot at the blade and it will definately burn and scar if he doesn't let go.

She studies him and sighs,"Better than a vampire I guess." she mutters to herself and studies the man's mannerisms and posture.
Vampirella has posed:
Anyone who's been in a fight knows that at some point in combat, narrative flow breaks down and any attempt to impose one is mostly done after the fact by someone with a vested interest in trying to present a sanitized version of stupid chaos. Russ Anderson has never been in a fight, so what happens next is very novel to him, though he does not ever gain appreciation of the new experience. Spoiler alert.

Firestar is aiming her mutant ray beam at his knife. The microwave effect makes showers of sparks explode out from it, like he's holding a firework in his hand. The effect is instantly blinding; shapeless white-red flowers begin blooming in his eyes. He notices he's dropped the knife an appreciable fraction of a second before he notices the pain in his palm.

and

Russ's thoughts, a planned monologue about how the comparison to STDs isn't just a metaphor, continue forward in his head despite everything else happening; like a car whose brakes have been cut, the speech--nearly a sermon--is trying to escape lips and tongue but can't because the bridge has gone down.

and

A man is emerging from the shadows, dressed more or less casually, a long coat against the October cold making a lot of sense but the sunglasses not at all. The man's back is to Firestar and his hand is on Russ's upper arm. There is a flash of movement like something from a wuxia movie and Russ finds himself flipping in midair, still blind spinning 270 degrees before gravity notices it briefly lost track of him. When he hits the pavement, it's almost silent but for the gasping whoosh of all the air being knocked out of him. For two seconds that feel an hour long, Russ is sure he will never breath again, and his hands are clawing at his throat as if to open a new breathing hole.

and

The man--maybe thirty, white, dark hair cut short--looks up at Firestar to ask, "Are you alright?" He asks the woman with fire beams and who's a dozen feet in the air if SHE'S alright, as if he just saved her from something.
Firestar has posed:
The whole situation is mind boggling. Angelica watches the guy not have regard for his safety or health and shakes her head with a sigh. Some people really need supervision.

She prepares to give him something a little more drastic to stop him when the other man arrives and takes charge. She crosses her arms and watches the exchange of violence and control with equal parts interest and compassion. Pain is pain and she knows he had pain planned for her.

The man addressing her gets her attention and his disposition makes her uneasy. She remains in the air and tells him,"As good as can be expected I suppose. I am glad it was me he came after as opposed to someone that couldn't get away from him." She doesn't sound real convincing in that, but probably meant it for the most part.
Vampirella has posed:
"I'm Marc," the new man explains up at Firestar. "I'm a cellist--never mind, I'm sorry, I'm babbling. First time talking to a superhero." He adjusts his sunglasses, tightening them up on his nose as he gives a dazed, dazzled smile. "So, uh, what happens next? Do you fly this guy to the police station or something?"
Firestar has posed:
"I can call 911 and wait for them to arrive." she replies and takes her phone from Heaven only knows where and starts to dial. She offer him a smile and tells him,"It's nice to meet you Marc. I am Firestar. My flying him place could be terribly unsafe for him and while I don't care for his behavior, I am not wanting to see him hurt worse."
Vampirella has posed:
"Wow, that's a part of heroics they don't show on TV much. Do people come up and ask for your autograph, or do newspaper reporters show up to interview you or anything like that while you're just waiting?" Marc considers this, then adds hastily, "Maybe I'll call the police. Hang on." His phone slips out of his coat pocket and reaches for 911.
Firestar has posed:
"It's a joy." she mutters and looks at the man down. She snorts softly and shakes her head,"Not many autograph hounds no." she explains,"I try to not deal with reporters where I can. When I hear the sirens I get out of dodge. My kind can catch charges just because a cop wants to be a jerk."
Vampirella has posed:
"We're a ways away from Dodge, but point taken otherwise," Marc says amiably. He's apparently able to follow Firestar's conversation and the 911 operator's at the same time. He's a multitasker! "Uh, they say they'll be here in five minutes. Should I... I mean, am I cramping your style by staying here?"
Firestar has posed:
Listening for the sound of sirens, Firestar raises into the air a few feet and shakes her head,"You aren't bothering me." she replies and watches the man on the ground,"I am not much for style, just substance. You helped and I appreciate it."
Vampirella has posed:
Marc smiles, looks around a bit, and asks, "So, uh, if a person was to become a fan of your work--a totally hypothetical person!--d'you think this person might be able to find you on Twitter or something and give you a follow...?"
Firestar has posed:
She shakes her head and watches the horizons,"Not really. I never really thought about that honestly. I don't even have a personal account for my unmasked self. Sorry."
Vampirella has posed:
Marc raises his hands as if in surrender. "No, I get it. Probably best not to have an account, really. But hey, I'm gonna get out of here before the police ask me any questions. You, uh, you have a good night, okay?" His voice is light, like it's all totally cool. He's already heading for the alley he may or may not have emerged from prior to doing the judo flip move on Scream-Man.
Firestar has posed:
Angelica floats into the air higher as she starts to see the lights flashing in the distance,"I don't blame you. Cops are difficult for sure." She looks back towards the incoming police,"Take care." she replies,"Watch out for random crazies." THe last a feeble attempt at a joke.
