Antiques sword show
Date of Scene: 30 March 2024
Location: Fontainebleu Antiques, Yonkers
Synopsis: Gabby is debating buying her big sister a present. Emma Frost drops in to show off how rich she is. Turns out people who work in antique stores like rich people more than teenagers! Who'd have guessed.
Cast of Characters: Honey Badger, Emma Frost

Honey Badger has posed:
Normally you would never ever /ever/ find Gabby Kinney, better known as Honey Badger, in an antique store.

Rich boring old people stuff. Bleh no way! But there is an exception. She heard they sell /weapons/. Specifically swords. Who doesn't like a cool old sword that might be magical and glow with terrible & deadly might? People who aren't fun that's who.

Of course antique stores generally frown upon teenagers coming in and handling the merchandise. Which is why poor Gabby is pouting and looking longingly at what is probably a very mundane boring sword. A duffel bag slung over her shoulder. While one of the stores employees lurks nearby waiting for an excuse to throw her out. Which hasn't come up juuuuust yet. But from the scowl on the employees face? They sure as heck think she's about to!
Emma Frost has posed:
There is a chime at the door as it opens, and in walks money! A LOT of money comes because of the one and only Emma Frost, complete with bodyguards who hold the door open for her.

The statuesque blond walks into the place and looks around; she smiles, having spotted Gabby. She wondered who she sensed in the limo. It was Gabby.

walking with a model grace she smiles. " Gabby, how nice to see you "
Honey Badger has posed:
It's not just telepaths who can tell who someone is from a distance. A little sniff of the air and her super senses let Gabby tell who just came into the store without looking around. Eyes still fixed on the precious. Which just so happens to be a sword that probably wasn't ever stuck in a stone, given it was made in the 1700s by an Italian swordsmith called Andrea Ferara, but is expensive enough to not be considered a toy. And real enough to be pretty dangerous!

"Hey Miss Frost," she says. Still not looking around. "Here to buy yourself another.. Uh... rich people thingy?"

She has money too! Don't ask where it came from. And certainly don't test to see if there was ever any blood splatter on it. It's better not to know in case a lawyer asks you questions later.

Very briefly she peeks over her shoulder to confirm the voice really does belong to Emma, as if someone might buy the sword while her eyes aren't on it, and waves. Her gaze skips over the bodyguards without comment. They're hired help. And in the world of mutant assassins and super bodyguards that makes them little more than goons. Poor guys.

<<It must be weird being rich. She left the house without a skirt on and no-one thought to mention it! Oh wait. Can she read my mind? Are you reading it now? Wait don't answer I don't wanna know. Uhm. Think about something else.... But not that you forgot your big sisters birthday. Darn it!>>
Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost Smirks a little to herself. That comment on her outfit was nice. She likes praise, after all, but the tall blond leans over to look at the sword for a moment." That's a lovely sword " .

She snaps her fingers and points; she doesn't bother asking or even thinking that the staff won't jump and grab it out for her to look at because they will. That's just how Emma works, after all .

.oO Were you looking to buy the sword for the big sister's birthday? You forgot Oo. yep, she's gonna be evil. but also nice cause she has them bring it out for gabby to see.
Honey Badger has posed:
There are lots of ways a trained individual can keep a telepath from skimming their mind. Or at least make it harder for stray thoughts to leak out. The main one Gabby has been told of is a very martial artist sort of approach. Clearing the mind and becoming one with the inner... something. Honestly she stopped listening somewhere around the point she was trying to clear her mind. Meditation isn't really her thing.

"Swords aren't lovely," she says with a shake of her head. "They are either cool or badass. Depending on how giant they are." Those are technical terms don't you know it.

Laura's birthday was actually a while ago. And she wasn't exactly born so much as cloned. But she was busy doing X-23 things, probably involving violence, and Gabby wasn't able to get her something on the day. And then time passed... and now she's over a month late trying to find something cool enough to make up for it. She even has enough cash to pay for it herself. Even if that money was supposed to be hidden away in a go bag and only used in dire circumstances. Like corporate hit teams chasing after her or Sentinels rising up to hunt every mutant in the country. Basically it's to bribe people to get her out of the country in an emergency. But hey she can totally beat up some bad guys and replace it before something like that happens.... right?

"I think most of the swords Laura and Logan have come from Japan. So I thought maybe I should buy something different."
Emma Frost has posed:
She nods her head as she looks it over, but she looks to Gabby and motions, "Go ahead and check it. " She smirks. "They think it's real, so it should be good." She grins

The staff is instantly friendly to Gabby now because she is with the rich and powerful Emma. But Emma understands the just-in-case bag.. even she has that being a mutant means you gotta be ready just in case.. also former villains having heros break their stuff is normal, so have backups.

Emma also has a soft spot for younger mutants, so she likes to help them.
Honey Badger has posed:
Gabby takes the sword. Her posture immediately shifting from petite teenager loitering in a store for rich old people to that of a trained warrior. A sword fighting stance that speaks of lots of intense training. She holds the blade, testing the balance, then carefully runs her nail against the edge. "Balance is excellent. Edge could use some work but I wouldn't expect to buy it fighting sharp.." She nods. Mostly to herself. "It's a pretty cool sword that's for sure. Not big enough to be totally badass. But certainly cool."

She glances at the antique store employee. "How much is it?" she wonders. Hand brushing against the bag of cash. Probably they will ask questions about where the money came from. People don't typically buy antiques with untraceable unmarked bills with non-sequential numbers. Ideally old bills that've been in circulation a while. Money that's hardest to trace.

"So uh. Are you here to buy anything yourself?"
Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost She looks up from watching Gabby before she glances around and cocks her head " No, I felt you here and came to say hello," she says honestly.

She looks about. " I was on my way back to the school to teach my class when I felt your mind." She looks over an old lighter for a moment as if checking it .
Honey Badger has posed:
"That... doesn't it get kind of annoying?" Gabby wonders, momentarily forgetting the sword and just how expensive the price the staff member has told her, glancing over at Emma and the bodyguards. Who are probably not entirely thrilled about the petite girl waving a sword around next to their boss. "There are millions of people in the city and if you stop to say hi whenever you pass someone you know... How do you ever get anywhere?"

A shrug.

"See I would just pull out my cellphone and shoot someone a text. Like yo girl how's things? Just sensed your mind while cruising in my limo." She blinks a few times. "Wait you teach class on Saturdays too? Bleh school sucks. Turning up to class. Doing homework. I guess it's less dangerous than being a super hero.. But no fun at all."
