|
- Firestar has posed:
Arby's. They have the meats. Lots of them. For her part, Angelica is already seated and has some less than common options on her tray. Instead of a sandwich, she has one of the gyros. It is a little different, but very popular still. Not fries of curls, she has an order of their cheddar peppers for a side. Lastly a large glass of something to drink.
On her table with the food is a textbook. It is laid open, so it is difficult to discern what it might be from a distance. Lastly she has a notebook open and seems to be making notes between bites and frowning at the book now and then.
- X-Man has posed:
X-Man steps into the Arby's and mmms, looking around at the crowd and gives a light smile and nod as he enters, the sort of friendly neighbor or coworker 'Hey there, I don't know you're name so we'll just call you Buddy' type greeting. He walks past Firestar and hmms, glancing down at the table, perhaps checking out her food or her notebook, and then he looks up to her body and then face. "Not often you see people working at a fast food place, but I guess it's what, a school lunch?" he offers politely.
- Firestar has posed:
Scribbling something, Angelica pauses when she realizes someone is talking to her. She checks her note and then looks up. Her red hair gets exhale up to blow it from her face. Studying the man, she nods,"Sometimes quiet isn't the key. Sometimes you need background noise." she replies.
Taking a cheddar pepper, she gingerly bites it in half. Steam rolls off the cheese and she makes a face with her lip gets a little burned. Not bad, just enough to make her inhale a little.
- X-Man has posed:
X-Man nods a little as he smiles politely. "Well, I can give you some noise if you like, but maybe if you try and let me know what you're working on then perhaps I could help?" he asks and lets out a chuckle, "I am more than just a pretty face."
- Firestar has posed:
She chuckles softly and moves a few things from the table so he can sit across from her. A nod to the seat and she replies,"I'm Angelica. You can join if you like. I am just taking one of the required classes to get my degree. Esentially old British Literature. It can't be over soon enough."
- X-Man has posed:
X-Man nods a bit and chuckles. "Yeah, there's a lot of the sort of thing I deal with. I mean, it's what happens when you live at a school, they like to try and teach you everything. Some of the classics..." he considers, "And its always those old British works. Not really the sort of thing given they have been around for hundreds of years, but I guess they like to think we're going to traven back in time or something," he jokes.
- Firestar has posed:
"Yeah. It seems reasonable pointless." she agrees,"I only work hard because I need the scholarship so I can get my degree." She eats the rest of the popper and sips her drink.
She considers him and asks,"I'm attending NYU. You on campus there or somewhere else?" While he replies, she takes another bite of her gyro, nodding apprivingly to the taste.
- X-Man has posed:
X-Man mmmms as he considers the statement before replying. "Oh, well I go to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.. Well, mostly there because of my parents being teachers there," he admits and chuckles, "So, I guess I'm a legacy member for the institution?" he offers and shrugs.
"I mean, it's not like I really know all the stuff of how it works, I'm a late comer to this stuff as well.. I was. separated from my parents at a young age and we only reconnected recently, so... I guess it's a weird edge case in all this."
- Firestar has posed:
A raise of her brow, interest in her face,"Ahh. Xavier's is a fine institution. I stayed there for a while when I came back into the country, but moved on so I could concentrate on college studies." she explains.
The curiosity is impossible to miss,"Legacy member is interesting."
A smirk and she adds,"I will let you in on a secret friend. None of us know all the stuff. We just fake it like a bad date trying not to hurt the other person's feelings. Sorry about missing your parents. I have an understanding, not the same, but similar. So don't sweat it too much."
- X-Man has posed:
X-Man :nods a little more at the comment of trying to fit in. "Fake it until you make it is a way of life for many people," he agrees and laughs, "Especially now with the internet and everything, it's like all the details you want are at your fingertips, you just need to figure out how to parse all the extra information that makes it harder to locate," he says and chuckles.
"But then, isn't that what the whole idea of research and studying is? Critical thinking, understanding of situations, understanding how to interpret things around you."
- Firestar has posed:
She raises her glass and smirks,"Truer words." she tells him.
She looks at the book and sighs,"If the devil is in the details, I've met him twice now. This class and last semester's Philosophy class. If I was smart I'd be taking the summer off, but temptation to take this one in six weeks with no other class to distrupt getting through it was too much. Plenty of critical thinking in this class."
She hmms softly and asks him,"So who are your parents if you don't mind my asking?" she inquires,"I mean if you need to keep it on the down low I get it. Xavier's can breed that for good reason."
- X-Man has posed:
X-Man nods and smiles a little more. "Oh, the Devils are definitely out there," He says and nods. " I hope that you get some of the details.. And as for my parents, well, if I give my full name as Nate Grey, th'll probably give you some idea of who they are if you went to the school," he says and smiles, considering. "And yeah.. I guess it is hardd to feel comfortable with everyone who judges the sorts that go there."
- Firestar has posed:
"Everywhere." she agrees,"I am getting the details yes. Just don't care about them beyond a grade. I want to focus on my degree field, the rest is just frills." She looks at the book,"Not fun frills some of them."
A mention of his name and she nods a little,"I see. That does fill in a few blanks, but makes more. That's for another time I guess." After another popper gets eaten, she nods,"There is a lot of judgement that goes on there yes. I wasn't ever a part of the teams or the curriculum really. I had planned to teach Physics around my college, but things...well things didn't work out."
- X-Man has posed:
X-Man lauighs a bit and nods, considering. "So, what are you planning to teach now instead?" he asks and smiles, "After all, if you're putting in all the effort, may as well do something with it. I mean, it's not like there's a shortage of teaching jobs... Just a shortage of teaching pay," he adds and laughs.
"I understand people's fear of the unknown, people's fear of strangers. WE license people to control motor vehicles, big massive weapons zooming down the street.. But we don't license people to live, so the powers some have make them afraid."
- Firestar has posed:
"I might teach or I might do something else. I am getting my degree in Physics. There is a shortage of teachers and there is a direct link to students being able to run over their teachers that makes that a situation. Why would you want to teach a bunch of little morons that have no accountability? Then not get paid for it. Private schools don't pay great either though there is more control in the class rooms."
A nod and she adds,"Yes. The age or registration because someone can fly and emit nuclear radiation into a maser beam." The red hair, the random power comment, and he just might be able to make that make sense,"Or lasers from eyes, or metal skin, or the list goes on and on."
- X-Man has posed:
X-Man nods and smiles a little more. "Yeah, you say that now, but there's always the ones that will pick it up." He pauses and smiles as he starts to quote:
"We've been spoon-fed baby food at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let slip were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by sadists, or ignored by the apathetic. The few that had somthing to teach found us willing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in the desert."
"So there are those who will find that some students really want to learn, but well.. they need the teachers who inspire them to do it, the ones who make it interesting, gfun and challenging. IT's hard to balance."
- Firestar has posed:
"I wish the classroom could be like the old Walker Texas Ranger episode. Take nothing from the students, take care of them, love them, but put up with no guff." She smiles a little, listening to him talk,"Mr. Gray you sound a lot smarter than maybe you let on at the surface." she teases lightly.
A sigh and she admits,"I wanted to be a student, to learn physics for the same reason that I was a student with Emma Frost's Academy, the reason I was in Canada with the Alpha Flight academy, and briefly staying at Xaviers. Physics is part of my life and knowing it has helped me a great deal."
The two are able to have a quiet conversation in general over roast beef and fried goods. eventually she does give him her number if he wants it so they can chat again sometime if he wants. Otherwise it is a one and done potentially.
