Cast of Characters: Lightning Lad, 360, Invisible Kid

Lightning Lad has posed:
"Well, okay. Brainy wanted me to do initial evaluations on everyone. I... don't like that. You're Legion, so you are family." Garth says it quietly as he greets Sussa. "I don't play games with family. So you are just going to do some pushups and planks with me, and we'll wing it? I mean, I am pretty sure you are fine. The idea is not to demean you or anything. The idea is to build a little comradery. You need to be able to know I can drag you out of a fight if you go down, and I need to know the same, okay?"
Something is the matter with Garth. He's smiling. There is no shouting. 'So, let's jsut try to have some fun, okay?"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
It has been a while, but Sussa WAS a cadet in military school before she was recruited into the program that sent her to spy on the Legion. That was a long time ago. She probably needs to start a training regimen.

Sussa Comments, "I probably can use the practice, but I doubt you will be as bad as my Sergant back in boot camp. It is not that I am out of shape exactly, but I am almost certainly not as good as I used to be in some things."

Lightning Lad has posed:
"Sussa. You'll be fine. I just think we all need to keep working out. We should do it together a little too. You need to see that I'll work for you." He drops down. "Me? I like to start with a pyramid." He starts to do push ups. One. One two. One two three.
He is still smiling as he does it. "We're family. This is just a little pep talk, to make sure you keep yourself in fighting shape."

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa nods, "Given my power, it would be easy to do too much with my hair, rather than rely on my body. Staying in shape without using my powers becomes rather more important." Actually, she trains reguarly, but the training is focused more on body sculpting...you do not keep looking as good as Sussa without an effort. She starts doing Push-ups.

Lightning Lad has posed:
"Well, that works too. I mean, it is your strongest... can we call it a limb?" He asks. He sets this nice, easy pace. The idea is to just get into things. "I would be lying if I did not say that part of this is to look good in the uniform. It would real easy to put on some weight."

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa nods, "Yeah, a lot of folks get gene sculpting to maintain their shape, but for us we can not risk it impairing our powers. Staying in shape actually takes work." Such are the realities of life in the 30th century.

Lightning Lad has posed:
"Well, we're a long ways from that now." Garth counters. He's starting to alternate between one arm pushups. Biceps bulge, then relax as he does so. "So we need to be on top of things as they are. Are you good with the autochef?"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa responds, "Not exactly. My hobby is cooking from scratch. An autochef just never gets quite the flavor of a good home-made meal." She adds, "Of course, what is considered good food varies considerably based upon planet of origin."

Lightning Lad has posed:
"My mom cooked by scratch. I can't cook. I'm not even allowed to use the autochef." he admits it wryly as he continues to work out. His breathing barely changes.

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa can do a few one arm pushups...she does them not as strength exercises but as balance exercises. but she can only manage a few, her endurance is not that great in this type of training.

Lightning Lad has posed:
That makes him slow down. "Okay. On your knees." He says it. "Girl pushups, but one armed." his grins is warm. "You've got the two armed ones down. But work on the one-armed. Trust me, as a former one-armed man." he actually laughs about it.

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa notes, "It is not the most important skill to be able to use with your off hand. Part of my training is being able to do almost anything ambidextrously...of course I also train to do most things using only my hair too. I imagine your center of balance was thrown off by the loss."

Lightning Lad has posed:
"The prosthesis was worse. Light weight materials or not, it messed me up." Garth admits. "Also shorting it out with too much electricity." He moves closer. "Five left arm. You can do it." For one of the legion hard cases, he is rather nice.

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Five she can manage...twenty would be a significant challenge though. She does nave limits. She is clearly straining as she gets to the end of the five.

Lightning Lad has posed:
"Okay. I want five right, then 5 with your hair, and then 5 more left." Garth instructs. "I know this isn't fun. I know it isn't exciting, but we swear now, so we don't bleed later. Okay?"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
The hair ones are easy, she is significantly stronger with her hair than her physique...she only needs a fraction of her hair to do those and is does not tire her...she can cont that as resting. She points out, "Combat training is probably better at keeping you from bleeding later than this."

Lightning Lad has posed:
"That is what I thought too until my brother shot my arm off." Garth says it. "Okay." He holds out his left arm out to her, rolls out onto his back. "Pick me up. Carry me to safety." He gently adds, "I can't teach you to fight, Sussa. I ... I mean absolutely no disrespect when i say this, but I can do things with ease that you might not be able to do with all your effort. Powers are not fair. The gym? That is fair."

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
She says, "I mean fighting without powers..." She wraps Garth quickly in a coccoon of hair, providing the protection of her tough strands and providing support for any injuries. She carries him level without so much as a bump as she runs to whatever the designated safe area is.

Lightning Lad has posed:
. "Now, you are using your hair to fight. Carry me another way." Garth patiently instructs. He shakes his head. "I cannot do that either. Val really should. He can teach you more in like 7 minutes than I could in 7 weeks. And, really, I use my powers even then."

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa points out, "I can do both at the same time with my hair, it is very versatile, but if you insist," She puts Garth into fireman's varru and carries him that way. It is tough since he is far heavier than she is, but she manages.

Lightning Lad has posed:
"And if you are carrying Brainy in your hair, or Imra? She's heavier than she looks?" Garth's smile is a little less genuine. "You don't seem to want to do this." He remarks. He makes it sound like a negative.

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
"I am more the agility than raw strength type. Put me on working rings or bars or ropes and I can probably beat you. Expecting anyone to match what you are good at in what they are less good at is illogical," replies Sussa. One handed push-ups she practices far less than one handed pull-ups, it takes a different muscle group.

Lightning Lad has posed:
"I'm not good at any of it." Garth answers. "I just want to look good in my uniform." That was honest. 'And honestly, our rec room is about the only gym we have currently. Otherwise, well, we would work at it. Push up, planks, and other isometrics are what we have. Seems to me, best to do what we can."
Garth gestures. "Do you see the 30th century outside our hull, or do you see a time about 900 years before we were born?"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa is quick to point out, "Humans in this time period have ways to manage such things. After all, they have remarkable acrobats like Nightwing. We could probably get Brainy to figure out a way to do it in five minutes. Since you lack any defensive powers, I would think learning defensive skills like acrobatics would be a good choice for you."

Lightning Lad has posed:
"Yes. We could get all that gear." he agrees. 'Where would we put it?" Garth's tone is patient. "Recreation is important too. All training and no play doesn't sit too well with all of us. Some of us, well we joined the Legion because we wanted to, not because we were spies." Shots fired? Garth pauses. "that wasn't fair. I'm sorry. We have limited resources, we are missing several of our members, including my sister, another of the founding members, and several of our most versatile friends. Sure, we need to work out, but we also need to blow off steam. How do you propose we do that knowing that this ship? it's home."

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
She responds, "There is a whole world out there, Garth. Do not be afraid to go out into it. The people here are human, there are many ways to relax among them, we do not need to confine ourselves to this ship."

Lightning Lad has posed:
"I go out all the time." Garth counters testily. "But what do we do? We do not have things to trade safely Do you have their money? Are you sure that guy you talk to wasn't your great grandfather several dozen times removed, and well now you are not going to be born?" Garth pinches his nose. "Just be careful. We have to think, and this is coming from me. I hate planning and scheming, but we have to be at least a little careful."

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
"Where I come from, we think time is like a river...minor changes fo not really effect the destination. It takes a major blockage to dam it or change it's course," responds Sussa. "A minor change is simply a small stone fossed into the river, making ripples that are soon erased."

Lightning Lad has posed:
"Are you sure that is the truth, or just a philosophy?" He asks it carefully. "Because if you are wrong. thr consequences could be dire."

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa points out, "It is impossible to tell, because if it is not true then our own perceptions would be modified by the changes in history retroactively. However, many of the local savants speculate that travel into your actual history is impossible for just that reason. I looked over some papers by a fellow called Reed Richards. I can not claim to understand his math, but the summations were clear enough, all cases he could locate involving time travel that actually changed anything originated from outside of the time line being altered."

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle wanders in, with a black kitten riding on his shoulder which has a most satisfied expression on her face. He catches only the last couple things Sussa said, but it's enough to elicit a comment: "I wouldn't make any guesses about time travel without talking to Querl first. He's the expert. Even I can't keep up with the math, without a concentrated effort."
He settles into the seat of a leg press and sets the weight appropriately. Shadow -- the kitten -- remains perched on his shoulder throughout. "I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't tell him I said that, of course. I have a reputation to maintain. And I have to keep his smugness reduced to the level of a mere mortal." He grins, and begins his workout routine, to Shadow's complete bemusement. "Mew?" is all she says, while Lyle says somethign along the lines of "*hff*!"

Lightning Lad has posed:
"I did." Garth replies gamely to iKid. His nod is genteel. "I was warned to be very careful about what I did, said, or interacted with." He lowers himself right back down to start doing planks, his elbows on the floor. His shoulders are still. No tremor in his right arm at all. "How is the kitten?"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa has studied a bit of Legion History, she knows how much effort it has tallen by the likes of the Time Trapper and the Lord of Time to create a significan change, and how quickly things reverted after. She has reasonable confidence in her theory. She starts doing balance exercises.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle beams at Garth. "The kitten is wonderful. I expect to be able to fit flight ring technology to her collar within the next week, and then I'll learn her biochemistry well enough to create an invisibility serum suited to her. Although subject to my control through her collar, of course."
He can't help but laugh. "Invisible Kit." he says, failing to suppress a giggle.
Shadow, still perched on his shoulder, offers no more than "Mew?"

Lightning Lad has posed:
His sigh is soft, full, and long. "Well. Okay." His grin is gentle and warm as he remains in the plank position. He shakes his head as he continues. He asks, "Why have an invisible cat/"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa says, "Why does any hero have a pet who shares their powers? Because it makes life mor interesting I suppose. I imagine a cat with prehensile fur would be a bit annoying though."

Invisible Kid has posed:
"Depends on the pet, Sussa. A chihuahua with prehensile fur, no biggie. An afghan or an old English sheep dog, that's another matter entirely!" Lyle chuckles softly. "I could probably engineer one of those for you, if it came down to it."
He does another leg press with a *hff!* and a curious "Mew?" from Shadow, still calmly perched on his shoulder. "Think of it this way, Garth -- if you had a cat or a dog, it'd be so much better to have them share your powers if you had to use yours around them. Not only would they be used to it, they'd also be effectively safe from it.""

Lightning Lad has posed:
"not the way my powers work, Lyle." Garth says, his voice showing a little strain as he keeps the position. "If so, I wouldn't have lost my arm."

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
sussa inquires, "Why DID you lose your arm anyway, aren't you effectively immune to electrical attacks?" He is generally said to be. Perhaps it was an indirect effect, like Mekt's lightning hitting something and causing it to explode and the schrapnel hitting Garth?

Lightning Lad has posed:
Still not a tremor. Garth is quiet. He looks at his right arm. Still rock solid. His smile gets a bit bigger. "I made a choice. Being right, or doing right. I shielded Ayla with my body from Mekt. He was mad with power, and he took a shot at us that was just... I have never seen that much power. I blocked the shot with my body, and I paid the price."

Invisible Kid has posed:
"That was a special case. I bet I could engineer you a lightning cat. Or dog. Of course, nothing is proof against *everything*... if that were possible, either me or Brainy would have sorted that out by now," Lyle says, as though that were obvious. "Unfortunately, nothing's perfect. Obviously, not even us."
*hff!* goes Lyle, and *mew?* goes Shadow, who's bored with the whole physical exercise thing Lyle's doing since it takes time away that could be spent petting her. So she hops down off his shoulder to wander over towards Garth. "Mew?"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa comments, "I wonder...possibly he was not using lightning that time, but had done something so as to use something else, like positrons, instead of electrons?"

Lightning Lad has posed:
"If you want to engineer something. Something to give Imra a voice would be delightful. Assuming she wants one, i guess." Garth continues to look at his right arm, and then grins at Lyle. Still no tremors. It seems to be something that he very much enjoys.
He shakes his head. "No. it was lightning. I had electrical burns. I am not immune just resistant. Same as him. Ayla and I together managed to take him down."

Invisible Kid has posed:
"If Imra wants that, I'll be happy to try, Garth," Lyle offers, grinning as his kitten headbutts against Garth's ankle. "I won't commit Querl to it, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't find the challenge interesting. Speaking of him, did his treatment for your arm work out?"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa sits lostin memory a bit, remembering how she was selected ant treated to give her the powers she had, and how difficul it was to learn to use it. Would it be easier or harder for an animal?

Lightning Lad has posed:
"It helped." Garth says brightly. "Not as much as actually getting a chance to talk to Imra did, but it helped." Garth's smile suddenly makes so much more sense. His grin just won't fade. "She uhm, was not.. oppossed to it." he puts it delicately. Because it's their business. But he was a mess.

Invisible Kid has posed:
"Ask her to talk to either Brainy or me," Lyle says with a grin of his own. "I won't promise miracles, but I promise we'll see what we can do."
Shadow, meanwhile, is not at all happy with being ignored by Garth, and pads snootily over to Sussa, tail high, in full expectation of getting petted. "Mew?"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa sends down a strand f hair to play with the kitten. What kitten could resist a piece of animated string?

Lightning Lad has posed:
"Sounds like a plan." Garth lowers himself to the floor. He sighs, softly. "We will make that happen." Garth says with a smile. "Alright. Everyone okay now? We all feeling a little bit of a burn? And Lyle. Lightning kitten is a cute idea, but a bad idea." His grins is wide. "Cat's can be vindictive."

Invisible Kid has posed:
Shadow prRRrrRRrrRRrrs and snuggles into the coiffure appreciatively, to the amusement of Lyle. Especially when she gets her forepaws tangled playfully in the hair.
"Well, it was just a thought. How about a lightning German shepherd? They can be well trained, at least!"

Sussa Paka (360) has posed:
Sussa quips, "Spark, the Thunderdog!" Well, it is at least mildly catchy.

Lightning Lad has posed:
"Spark? I... that might be a bad idea." Garth manages to say delicately. He rolls over onto his back with a smile. "This is not the legion of super pets. i will pass. For now."
