Cast of Characters: Spider-Man, Amethyst

Spider-Man has posed:
It was late, and Peter Parker was busy studying in the New York Public Library. The sun had set, but the library was still open as part of a deal with one of the local academic institutions wherein students could challenge a course, and Peter was taking full advantage of it. He was actually researching something to deal with a friend's mutation, not x-gene related, but more of the chemical bath persuasion.

While taking a break from his studies to rub the sleep from his eyes and get up, taking a walk to get some air, he passed by some of the various artefacts on display. Little did he know that one of them contained a relic from gemworld. In fact, he was standing next to it, leaning with his back against the railing, and looked up to the skylight, yawning. Today, he was dressed in a burgundy sweater that said 'Empire State University' on the front of it, and blue jeans underneath.

Amethyst has posed:
A crystal in hand, Amethyst looks very much like any young woman. Blue jeans and a purple tee shirt. She explores the library carefully, feeling the stone warm in her hand. Eventually she's finds the case and gasps softly when she sees the item on display.

Spider-Man has posed:
Peter was just minding his own business, taking a break in the quiet, somewhat sparsely populated library. He looks up at the young woman with a crystal in her hand heading his way, "did you need a break from studying too? What course are you challenging?" He assumes that she's challenging a course. After all, almost everyone else here is. And he was trying not to draw attention to the fact he was here for other reasons.

Amethyst has posed:
"Oh, no." Amaya looks at Peter and shakes her head. "I heard there was a very rare stone here on display. I was wanting to see it for myself." She stammers and points to the opal on display. "Have you ever seen a black opal so pure or large in it's cut?" She asks softly. Her fingers close around the stone in her hand, slipping it into her pocket.

Spider-Man has posed:
"Oh, neat, so you're hoping to become a petrologist?" Trust Peter Parker to know the term for someone who specialises in the study of rocks, as opposed to the more generic term, geologist, or someone who studies minerals, a mineralogist.

He took a step back from the display he had partially been covering as he leaned against the railing. "I don't believe I have. My name's Peter by the way." He offered his hand to her in greeting.

Amethyst has posed:
"Amaya." She offers in return, extending a hand to Peter before shaking her head. "I'm not a student, though I do like to know things." She says softly. "How secure is this library? I mean, are these displays terribly safe?" She adds on, looking to him with curiosity.

Spider-Man has posed:
Peter thought that was a curious question, but is pleasantly relieved when it doesn't trigger his spider-sense. It's not perfect, but it's something he's come to rely on. "Oh, I don't really know. I mean, I imagine there's guards, and it's behind glass. Maybe there's a pressure plate like in the movies? Why, were you planning to steal it?" But his voice is aiming for humour, not an accusation.

Amethyst has posed:
"Yes. A tall thing like me." Amaya says dryly and shakes her head. "It's a very rare thing. One in all the world. If it were me, I'd put it in the deepest vault far, far away from people. Not in a library." She murmurs and makes a face. "Always disliked opals."

Spider-Man has posed:
Peter's mouth opens, but then he closes it, not really sure what to say to that. He tries to cover it by turning it into a smile. She was different, but she seemed nice. "So uh, sounds like you know a lot about them. How come you don't like opals?"

Amethyst has posed:
"Well, the spiritualists and mystics claim they store energy. But really they're very fragile, sensitive to water and the like. They break, imagine, all that energy and you drop it in a sink and crack. All that energy goes somewhere. How awful." Amaya smiles back to Peter. "My mother made me learn all about crystals, she's sort of into that sort of thing. I missed her, so my curiosity brought me here."

Spider-Man has posed:
"Yeah, that would be bad, not to mention the insurance claim would be a mess." Peter later sighed softly at the mention of her mother. He knew what it was like to be without loved ones. "Ah, well, be my guest." He didn't want to stand in her way between the opal and her. "If you ever want to talk though," and then he reached for a tiny notepad and a pen from his pocket, writing down his social media information. "Talking can help."

Amethyst has posed:
"Talking? Oh? About my family? They're all dead or a world away. Dwelling won't do me any good, and this isn't going to lead me home. It was good to meet you Peter. Good luck in your studies." Amaya offers and looks to the rest of the library. "I should get home-well, home here." She amends and looks to Peter again. "So umm, bye. Don't hang by this thing too long." She offers and taps the glass before stepping back.
