Cast of Characters: Jessica Jones, Karen Page

Jessica Jones has posed:
It was a cool October afternoon and Jessica had gotten paid. So she was in as good of a mood as she usually got and as such she was loading up on some food at the cornerstore between her place and the Law Offices of Blindy McNinja and Foghorn Leghorn... so she decided to pay them a visit.

The doorway to the law offices was knocked on (cause she didn't understand if that was a door you were supposed to knock first on or not!) and then she entered regardless.

"Hello? Smart people?" She said in a dry tone while stepping inside. Jess had on her black leather jacket, a light grey scarf around her neck and some blue jeans / black boots.

"I come bearing gifts." She added, sending her eyes around the interior of the main room.

Karen Page has posed:
As luck would have it, the boys were out of the office, leaving Karen alone to fend for herself. Which loosely translated to find all the things they'd remembered they needed on their way out, and wanted ASAP. Her protests of: "I don't get paid enough for this!" we largely ignored with benign smirks.
She's still working on organizing said files when Jessica shows up. "All the smart people left hours ago," Karen complains dryly. "I can tell them you came calling. Another package for Matt? Er, Mr. Murdock."

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica stood just inside of the doorway then and she looked at Karen as the blonde woman explained "Oh..." She said in a disappointed sort of way. "Well that figures." She'd turn then and just walk on into the kitchen area that was on her left, setting the two bags down that she had, she'd go to pulling some items out. "I replaced your pretzels, because I'm amazing like that." Then she pulled out a six pack of strawberry ale and set it down too.

"And I got these for you guys when you need to get over the really -hard- cases and don't want to wait for that sweet release at the bar." She went to put those into the fridge, cause surely Matt and Foggy (and Karen) would be fine with having alcohol in the office.

Karen Page has posed:
Karen quirks a brow, her lips setting in a thin line of amusement. "I'll just pretend you weren't so disappointed that it's just me here and thank-you for the pretzels." The ale she says nothing about. In fact, she gives serious thought to absconding with them on her way home without informing either boy they exist. The thought keeps the amused look upon her face.
"Was there something else you wanted?" There's a slight pause, Karen's lips pursing some in thought. "Okay, that sounded much worse than I meant. What I meant was, is there something I can help you with? They're working on a case. I got left with desk duty. But if it passes through this office, I generally know something about it."

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica reached into the bag yet again and pulled out a dark amber ale bottle for herself, her own kind of drink and she'd turn to walk toward where Karen was in the main room and twist the cap off of it.

She'd stare at the woman with a somewhat intimidating gaze, but thats because she was an intimidating figure to those she worked around... the tough-types, she was used to staring people down. After a few seconds, Jessica just glanced at Matt's office, then at Foggy's. "I was just hoping to check in and see if Matty had any more leads he wanted me to check out. I met him in Josie's the other night, we chatted for awhile. He had that stack of photos I gave him and he seemed a bit... distant. But I got him to loosen up some."

Jess would take a drink from her bottle, clearly she'd not fault Karen for running off with the ones she put in the fridge.

Karen Page has posed:
The brow quirk returns when Jessica pulls out her personal bottle. "I see." Without missing a beat, she closes the folders on her desk, and makes them as innocuous as possible. Jessica might work for Matt, but that didn't mean the woman got free show of their files. Karen had standards after all. But her comment about the photos reminds..
"Those photos. I was wondering about them. I never got to see them. Were they meant to go to Foggy.. Mr. Nelson." She corrects herself, even as she slowly comes to the realization that Jessica could care less what Karen calls her bosses, and seems to be on a first name basis herself, so why is she going to the effort? "Matt didn't say anything to me." Which, in and of itself was rather strange. She usually saw everything that went through the office. Often she was the one hunting down leads. Not photos, mind you, but leads.
    "Distant? How?"

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica would move to one of the chairs in front of Karen's desk and she'd seat herself down on it's edge and then lean back in the chair and put one of her black leather boots up on the corner of Karen's desk.

"Pictures were for Matt." Jessica said, pulling her phone out of her leather jacket's pocket and then glancing at the screen to answer a text with one thumb. "Matt's got a lot of emotional baggage on his shoulders. Mostly stemming from his childhood, I think. His job keeps him from falling into dangerous places, likely revolving around over indulging alcoholic tendancies." Jessica took a drink from her beer. "So its good that he has this job." Text was sent and she looked back to Karen.

"Its good that he has the support of you and the Fogster." She'd then add a little more. "Those pictures weren't shown to you beause they're of locations run by dangerous people, Matt's probably trying to protect you from them."

Karen Page has posed:
Karen scowls. "I'm not some piece of fragile glass. He needs to stop that.." Which is about when the other catches up to her. "For Mtat? We're talking about the same Matt, right? Blind as a bat. Walks with a cane. And the pictures were for him?"

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica gave a grin to Karen. "Matt's an old fashioned kind of guy, Miss Page." She told her. "And yes, the pictures were for him... but more specifically, for Danny Rand to talk to him about. Danny's a client, I think, right? Pretty damn nice client to land, by the way, super rich. Cute, in a... angry Home Alone child kind of way."

Jess' phone would beep as she got a return text and she'd take a chug from her bottle and then look down at the screen again. "I figure Matt's just holding the photos until Danny can see them and they can chat about them."

Karen Page has posed:
Karen nods, though she's not completely mollified by the answer. "I know Mr. Rand." She considers for a moment, stcking her file folders while Jessica checks out her text. "Mr. Rand's been a client as long as I have been with the firm." - She almost said 'as long as I have' - "But what do you mean in an angry Home Alone child kind of way? Is there something I should know?" She tries to sell it in a 'because I work with him' kind of way, when in reality it's as much a 'I know he's hiding something and dammit, I'm going to find out'.

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica grinned, for two reasons... one... the text was her being invited to a Rangers game, and she liked hockey... especially when the sweaty hot men dropped their gloves and started pummeling each other... and two... because Matt's little group here was embroiled in secrets-land and it was just adorable.

Jessica looked up at the office assistant. She felt a second or two of empathy for the poor woman. "You do a lot around here, don't you?" Jessica finally asked her then, ignoring the woman's question. "I mean, you look out for the two of them quite a bit? They get themselves in it pretty deep, don't they?"

Karen Page has posed:
It was an odd sort of question, one that immediately had Karen putting up her guard. "We're a tight knit little firm, if that's what you mean? We look out for one another. All of us. Why?" She doesn't address the 'in pretty deep' portion of the question and answer, at least not yet.

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica would stare at Karen up and through this response and then she'd shake her head and look back down to her phone, tapping away on it to say she'd pick up the tickets. "Oh." She said, head shaking quickly side to side again. "I just mean that they're really lucky to have found you. Its not easy to find an assistant that puts as much effort into the business as the people who created it. I run a business of my own, and I just know for a fact I'd never find someone who I could trust as much as they can trust you." She took a swing of her beer, sent the text and looked back up at Karen.

"I'm sorry, Miss Page." Jess said then. "I'm horrible a compliments."

Karen Page has posed:
"Ooookaaaay." The wary still hasn't let Karen. "And of course I put as much effort into the firm as they do. It's as important to me as it is to them." As well it should be. Without the boys, she'd be locked up somewhere on a trumped up charge meant to keep her quiet. Or worse, dead. The very fact that she was free to have a job was thanks to Matt and Foggy, and the obligation she felt over that ran fathoms deep.
"Oh, that's okay. I think I understood what you meant." Maybe. Posssibly. Karen really couldn't shake the feeling maybe that compliment had been a back-handed one, even if she couldn't pinpoint a thing about it to confirm her suspicions.
"They're doing a good thing here. I'm proud to work for them."

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica really was terrible at compliments, and her dry delivery of them made it very easy to take them wrong. She nodded once at Karen's words and glanced back down at her phone. "About Rand though... I just mean tthat he reminds me of the kid from that old Home Alone movie. All grown up, all super rich, and still finds reasons to be upset with his life." She looked up again. "I like him though, don't get me wrong. But, yeah, don't listen to me, Karen... I'm a crazy person."

Another drink of her beverage was had then and Jessica would stand up from her chair and slip her phone back into her pocket. "I've probably been annoying you enough already." She'd say, as Jessica Jones often did, feeling as though she should leave just about any social situation moments after entering one.

Karen Page has posed:
The explanation of Danny didn't entirely fit what she knew of the man, which was odd. "I suppose. I've only ever seen the rather more reserved side of Mr. Rand. He strikes me as the kind of man with a lot going on beneath the surface."
The compliment-non compliment debate is shuffled off to the back burner of her mind for the moment in favour of the discussion at hand.
"Oh? I was just about to close up for the afternoon, actually. You really haven't kept me much from anything. But I was curious, the other day, you really pushed that vehicle over. What makes someone who can do things like that settle for taking pictures and doing private investigations?"

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica would take a few steps back toward the kitchen but she'd stop when Karen asked her about hers personal choices in life. She'd turn and look back at the woman from around her black locks of hair. "I wouldn't describe what I'm doing as 'settling' for starters." Jessica replied, potentially annoyed by that descriptor choice for her life.

The PI would move into the kitchen and set her mostly empty bottle down, then gather up her bags of foodstuffs and she'd turn back and step back out into the main room.

"This world has enough super powered people running around fucking everything up, Miss Page." She said back to the woman. "Do you really want a drunk woman joining in on that?"

Karen Page has posed:
Karen's gaze follows the other woman as she heads into the kitchen space. "To be honest? No. Not really. But I don't know you well enough to make that assumption about you." Karen smiles as she says it, but it's only half-hearted, and coloured with the knowledge that Jessica just downed a fair sized bottle of beer in short order, in the office, during business hours, without so much as a by your leave. It might be safe to assume there is some validity to the woman's calling herself a drunk.
"Settling is a poor choice of words. So's fucking things up. Don't you think they're helping?"

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica paused by the front door and she listened to what what Karen said, she even pushed the side of her right cheek out with her tongue inside of her mouth in-thought over what the woman said.

"Not everyone who gets these kinds of abilities, are the types of people who 'should' have them. Like the supposed 'super' villains out there, Miss Page. I may not be one of those, but I know for damn certain that I'm not a tights-wearing cape-flying hero either."

Jessica would just draw in a breath of air then. "I do what I can when I can, but thats as far as its ever going to go." This was the same kind of conversation she'd had with her sister for a long time now. Trish had even convinced Jessica to try that lifestyle once, and she'd grossly rejected it like a cat vomiting up the expensive new food its owner just bought for them.

"Tell Matt to call me, okay?" Jess would say then to Karen before making for the doorway.

Karen Page has posed:
"You say that like he listens to me," Karen grouses under her breath, only to speak up with a slightly more chipper, "I'll pass it on. And thanks for returning my pretzels. Maybe next time we can share a drink?" Oh, she is soooo taking those ale home with her tonight.

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica would look back at the woman on her way out and she'd just tip her chin up and her head back in a slight nod. "Yeah, maybe." She replied before closing the door behind her and disappearing down the hallway. She was in a different mood now than when she'd arrived, something bordering on defensive anger... but she was pretty much always in that mood, so it was business as usual.
