When the Professor Finds Bamfs
Date of Scene: 05 December 2017
Location: Xavier's School, Westchester, New York
Synopsis: Well, bamfs have to take second place to someone in the mansion who might be dying of his powers
Cast of Characters: Professor X, Shadowcat

Professor X has posed:
Cerebro has been dormant and locked for months. Not that anyone had any reason to enter it. One has to wonder how much dust has been accrued in it, with the disuse! Yet this evening, it has returned to life, the dome in full activation with its creator at the helm, Charles Xavier. He is, however, finishing the use there. And the call to meet to Kitty Pryde was subtle and non disruptive: when she had a chance, to please come down for a brief talk between other tasks he is working on. And a preference to please use to door from the elevator, as opposed to any disruption of what may be going on with Cerebro.

And so it is that the helmet of Cerebro is being gently replaced, and the professor turns his head to look thoughtfully to the door, anticipating the arrival of Kitty with a relaxed, mild smile.

Shadowcat has posed:
The light telepathic touch was welcomed warmly. And Kitty finished up what she was working on, saved her data, and made her way down into the bowels of the mansion. She actually hasn't been back down here since she returned from university. As she enters the main doors, she looks around briefly -- nothing's changed. Except perhaps her.

Her smile is genuine and she greets the Professor by leaning down to kiss his cheek. "It's about time you got home," she observes lightly. "Don't you know how much trouble we get into without you?"

Professor X has posed:
"I do. I've been seeing some of it exploring the mansion and creating odd bits of trouble," Charles says to her with a sort of playful lift of his brows. Which, of course, makes it clear he is not ACTUALLY upset about that. But, well, the dad voice comes in as he clears his throat. "I would like to hear more about the plans for those... But first... tell me, how you have been?" the professor inquires, with a quiet warm concern, watching her expressions.

Shadowcat has posed:
Yeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhh. The faint blush that climbs her cheeks is definitely one of embarassment. Kitty rolls her dark eyes and then grins slightly. "I've been doing really well, Professor. Being back is a little... awkward at times," she admits. "I didn't really realize how different it would be to come back here as an adult, I guess?" She shrugs slightly. "But all in all, I think I'm settling in all right. Being able to telecommute to work rocks, and it gives me time to help out the students."

There's a flicker of genuine concern there, which she doesn't attempt to hide but nor does she speak of it right now. "I do apologize for the girl bamfs. Now that they know how to get here, I'm not entirely sure how to get any of them to go home again."

Professor X has posed:
"Well... you can perhaps understand my concerns with their disruptive quality. And some security concerns, as the safety of students is... Of utmost importance," Charles says, with a sort of tone that suggests he doesn't particularly like this conversation, but it needs to happen. "There has been some lax policy in a few areas with the school aspect here, and I'd like help from all of you to return to our core of learning: the disruptions need to be reduced, and the students cutting class... well. I hope we can convey to those students what harm they are doing to themselves and their futures," the professor continues. "I'm looking to you, and the other "adults," to help with this good example," he says warmly to her, extending a hand with a smile to touch her forearm, "A downside of adulting, I apologize," he teases.

Shadowcat has posed:
"Well, Professor -- the five boys have been here for a rather long time, so I'm doubting there's much I can do about that. But.... Kurt and I've figured out, we *think* where they came from. Just... getting back there is somewhat complicated. Using both of our powers at once is the only way that we know to get there, and we *just* figured that out." Kitty sighs and leans her hips back against one of the consoles. "What I'm really hoping is that when things settle just a bit, Kurt will be willing to go back there again. But the girl bamfs don't really want to talk to either one of us as yet."

Professor X has posed:
"I'm not rushing you on this. They aren't a big issue," the Professor soothes her briefly. "And I can step in with them as needed. If you need a little time, take it," he adds. "That said, I do feel they do come under the umbrella of things the two of you have some responsibility for. I do hope you will learn from them, and more of what brought them here. ...And I'm interested in what you find out."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty laughs softly. "Yes, I'm definitely taking responsibility for it. But the little buggers teleport... so catching them and getting them to cooperate has been challenging. But I promise that we're working on it... in among seeking out Mystique." She sighs heavily. "Not to change the subject on you... but I'd like to mention something that could be important. Nate Grey. I'm... quite worried about him." Worried enough that her research at work is right now focused on finding him a way to shunt power so he doesn't die.

Professor X has posed:
"Yes. Priorities. I understand that well," the professor says, with a brief look to the main Cerebro console, and a mild shadow passes through his expression, but it doesn't linger, he puts forward a better smile for Kitty. He doesn't read her mind or anything at all, he opens both hands in a sort of 'talk to me' motion. "Please fill me in." If he knows more about it, he's letting her say what's on her mind.

Shadowcat has posed:
"Well.... I'm sure Hank's filled you in on the medical aspects. But basically.... he's a funnel for the Phoenix Force, Professor. And his body can't handle the amount of power that it accesses." Kitty grimaces. "I'm hoping to use some of the research that Hank has done to help Rogue negate hers to help Nate, too... with the help of STAR Labs. But... maybe you can do something else to help him."

Professor X has posed:
The Professor steeples his hands slowly, eyes down for the moment, soaking in what she's saying, and asking for. "There is a very high level of danger here if that energy is not handled or shunted correctly," Xavier begins, in a careful way. "I would need to go there physically, and we can see what the state of his mental capacity for this is... if it has already overloaded him to an extent, well... some repairs can be made, to give you more time, at the very least. I can look. And that's not something I would want to do at a distance." He pauses but nods to her, "I am willing, of course, to advise on what I see. Set up a time for all those working on it to be present, and I will do what I can."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty looks relieved. "There is," she agrees softly. "Sometimes he looks like he's doing okay, but you can definitely tell he's overloaded. Sometimes when he uses his power, he's getting nosebleeds and headaches." Which perhaps gives him an idea of how bad it must be. "The alternate reality Sinister engineered him ... to NOT be able to contain it." There is rage in her over that, but she says, "Even if we can slow down his progression, that would be a help. Hank's got a start, and the Martian Manhunter is making sure that nothing I work on at STAR will be abused by people who might want mutant negating tech. I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to figure it out, but ... we have plenty of contacts with sciencey backgrounds. There's got to be SOME way to help him."

Professor X has posed:
"To an extent my instinct is to bring him to our facility, which I have more confidence related to security," Xavier admits, "But if you are getting good use from the resources of those labs, and are making progress, I do not want to uproot something that is working. However, should resources here be of use, or additional ones, let me know, please. I'm glad to hear you're keeping a wary eye on potential weapons against Mutants," the professor adds a little bit dryly, but back to serious tone. "There isn't often a simple mental fix: let alone with something like this. But if I can give clues at the very least, I will do that. Do you think there may be some clues to this within his memory from witnessing the engineering that he may still retain, as well?" the Professor asks, thoughtful. "Memories can give a lot of clues, I have found, in the past."

Shadowcat has posed:
"He's back and forth up here regularly, Professor," Kitty tells him. "I don't know what's in his memories....except torture." Her face pales just a little -- apparently she caught something from him that makes her look vaguely ill. "This is your specialty, sir.... not mine." She smiles. "Thank you, though. Because... it's *really* nice to have you home to talk to."

Professor X has posed:
"Of course. If he consents to my help, I'm ready to," Professor Xavier says gently. Forcing help down somebody's throat (or mind?) isn't something he's looking to do right now. Or perhaps ever again? "His health, both mental and physically, is most important. It does sound like we'll need to start acting a bit more quickly, if the situation is getting far out of hand, though." He nods once, and then smiles warmly at her thanks. "Being here to talk to-- It is--sadly?-- the least I can do. I will do more," he says quietly, seriously.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty pushes off the bank of monitors, and she kisses his cheek. "It's good to have you home, Professor." She smiles slightly. "We can manage without you.... but we're better with you. Don't strain your brain down here," she admonishes lightly.

Professor X has posed:
The Professor presses her hand warmly in answer, with a gentle but... reserved smile. "Only as much pressing as is absolutely necessary," he agrees in a non-answer. He will watch her go, with his thoughtful, quiet way, with a brief nod, before turning back to his task ahead.
