Sooner or Later They all Come for Coffee
Date of Scene: 23 June 2018
Location: Triskelion, New York City
Synopsis: Everyone hits the breakroom. May supplies fresh food and drinks. There is some discussion of upcoming events. Just another day dawns at the Trisk.
Cast of Characters: Quake, Darcy Lewis, Hawkeye (Barton), Peggy Carter, War Machine, Melinda May

Quake has posed:
It's an old scene: Skye parked in front of her laptop (doesn't she have a desk somewhere? The girl has an agent in training ffs!) lost in code. Two candy bar wrappers on the table in front of her; at least three on the floor. It's really hard to tell how long she's been at the table unless you look in her coffee mug...

EW.. there's that filthy scum layer on top that says the coffee has gone from cold to 'please put me out of my misery'.

Perhaps the only real exception is she's got a bow case parked neatly beside her.

She doesn't look up. Skye at work never looks up... at least not in the Trisk.

Darcy Lewis has posed:
Darcy had come in for her midmorning coffee, and spotted Skye, being Skye. At least she was eating? The admin agent smirked to herself, and made her way to the coffee machines to make sure there was a fresh pot. On her way, she slid by Skye's table and without comment or word or hesitation, Skye's coffe mug was scooped up with all the skill of a broke girl working in a diner.

Two fresh coffee cups in hand, made with lots of creamer and more sugar than a reasonable person should have in one cup, Darcy returned to Skye's table and settled herself across from the coder.

"Hey, Shitcode. What's shaking?" she asks, Skye's cup set down where the old one was while Darcy pulls a foot out of one of her not quite practical, almost too tall for office work, black heels to monkey-toe up the wrappers from the floor.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint wanders in with a yawn, the blonde haired agent is wearing his badge on a chain around his neck, and is dressed in his usual jeans and t-shirt get up rather than a formal SHIELD uniform.

"Ha, knew it," Clint says seeing Skye. He gives Darcy a smile, "Good luck getting her attention, she's been here all night working on whatever it is she's working on."

He makes his way to the coffee machine and pours himself a cup and wanders over to Skye's table, "Keyboard, you with us?"

Peggy Carter has posed:
Peggy Carter had been in this timeline for just about a year now and in that time she'd continued her world with SHIELD but yielded the floor of primary leadership to another. This was not her time, thusly in her heart it was not her job to lead this era of SHIELD. She was stranded here now too, unable to return to her origin point in history... so she was left to make due as best as she is able too.

A Senior Agent now, Peggy sits in a corner of the room with a tray of half finished food pushed aside and a series of folders and notepads in front of her. She had a tablet computer as well, but she still hadn't gotten 'in' to using that kind of thing. So no, instead she was taking down notes the 'old fashioned way' and her assistant would later transcribe them onto a PC once she got back to her office.

Dressed in a black jacket, black skirt and red button-up shirt, Peggy looks mildly different to the average Agent within SHIELD, but she's done her best to try to update her style to modern era, though she still stands out as its just hard to let go of everything you'd known before.

Agent Carter is summarily lost in her work though, it would seem.

War Machine has posed:
When Rhodes walks in he does his best to blend into the background trying not to make too much of a scene. He's covered head to toe in what looks like soot, or perhaps ash from some sort of debris. His flight jumpsuit is horribly singed but at least the man himself is alright.

Quietly he walks through the doors and makes his way over to the nearest vending machine. He's not said a word so far nor made any eye contact just rummaging around in his pockets for a few moments quietly counting his change.

Picking out a few coins he shunts them into the coin slot using the sleeve of his uniform to wipe some of the grime from his face in the process noticing and putting out a small bit of flame from the end of his jumpsuits sleeve. Luckily most of the flame retardant has been wiped clean from his uniform leaving only a few small patches.

He presses a few buttons on the vending machines surface making a selection before just sighing as he taps the side lightly.

Half-heartidly he glances over towards the small group gathering before turning his attention back to the machine. His head leans forward onto the glass of the vendor. There's a tired look in his eyes.

Darcy Lewis has posed:
Wrappers collected from the floor, Darcy glances at Clint, then smiles. Challenge accepted. Foot returns to shoe, coffee is collected and held up in Skye's line of sight and over her laptop's keyboard.

"Hey. Drink or I dump," she tells the coder in a voice just as sweet as the coffee and a smile to match.

Melinda May has posed:
Agent May arrives not too long after Darcy and Rhodes, her eyes taking in the room in general and all of the agents occupying it in specific. She doesn't pause in walking over to get something for breakfast as she does this, though, making her way through the nearly empty kitchen line without fuss. Anyone bothering to pay attention might see her claiming far, far more than is normal for her, and then she tops it off with an insulated mug of hot water and tea from her own stash.

She crosses the room on a beeline for Skye and Darcy, though she does offer Clint a nod as she stops next to him and starts setting plates on the table like a less-broke waitress. Darcy gets a plate with poached eggs, a cup-sized bowl of something oatmeal-like, another cup-sized bowl with cubed fruit, and hidden in the middle a couple of strips of bacon. A currently unclaimed space gets a short stack of pancakes with fried eggs and bacon, and a plate similar to Darcy's is swapped out with Skye's laptop while she's in the middle of typing.

And then May carries the laptop off with her as she takes the mug of now-steeping tea to set down in front of Peggy.

No need to panic, she's coming right back. Which she does, stealing Clint's coffee and putting that in front of Skye and giving the archer the overly milky and sugary cup.

Quake has posed:
"Touch the laptop, someone dies," Skye intones when Darcy first wanders in and puts the coffee down. She doesn't even look up at first. It's quite likely Skye hasn't a clue who just walked into her workspace and dropped a cup in front of her. Though by the time the threats start, the smell of the fresh brew has Skye's nostrils twitching, and the girl blinks up and away from her screen.

"Huh? Shit, what fucking time is it? I was supposed to meet Clint at the.. oh, hi Hotshot." Seems he's already found her. "Let me guess, Skye mode engaged, huh?"

Hey, she's getting better. She at least recognizes when she's zoned out. "Who brought the coffee? And oh god, May, is that food? Hey..!!" Laptop. Swapped out. Yep. It's food. And May you don't argue with. "I'll have you know I was working. On actual SHIELD business." Muttering, "Damn lucky I saved."

Peggy Carter has posed:
Peggy is well aware of who is in the break room with her, she's taken it upon herself to learn every name and to associate it with every face. She's leaning back in her chair and reading over an open folder when May approaches and sets the tea down in front of her, and this is what gets her clear and evident attention.

"Oh my word, thank you." Peggy says in her thick British accent. "You are a life saver, Melinda dear." She telsl the other, taking a moment to herself to set the folder down and lift the tea up to hold it with both of her hands. She releaess a soft sigh and lets her eyes scan around the room for the first time in a little while, having only registered who was here by the voices spoken.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint smiles as May does her Mom thing and gladly takes the cup provided, he lifts it in salute. Then waggles his fingers at Skye. "Yep, total Skye mode, you were here all night," the way he says that through a chuckle suggests he doesn't take it personally.

He takes a sip of his coffee and smiles. "God that's good, thanks May," he says before he notices Rhodes and Peggy. "Rhodey," he greets the man despite his trying to stay quiet, then he looks at Peggy, he's never met her but he knows who she is, her picture is around the office, "Ma'am, care to join us?" he asks. Sure they're the same rank, but the lady helped found SHIELD, she get's a ma'am from Clint.

Quake has posed:
Skye crinkles her nose at Clint. "Hey, you were on mansion duty. I figure it was fair game to stay up all night. I just didn't mean to miss our date this morning." She offers him her cheek for a kiss. "And thanks, May." For both the oatmeal, and for swtiching coffees for her. Darcy was a dear, but she didn't know how Skye took her brew. And why Clint would drink the stuff that way, Skye still had no answer for.

Clint's "Ma'am" gets a head tilt, the young woman muttering, "Who the fuck are you ma'aming here? May's not.." By this time Skye has craned her head around enough to notice Peggy. Who she hasn't met, but has already clued in must be the Ma'am in question. "Oh. Help an IT girl out and introduce us?"

Riiiiight. Skye's the IT girl.

Melinda May has posed:
Reassured that Skye's attention is now adequately on the food, May hands her the laptop back. It's still open, the window the hacker had been working on is still there, the cursor is even still blinking where she left off. And then she's off again back in the kitchen line, apparently to get her own breakfast this time.

She's getting another plate like the one she plunked in front of Skye along with another cup of tea and internally marvels at Clint's ability to find ANY coffee palatable -- even stuff that has so much milk and sugar in it it nearly qualifies as ice cream.

While waiting for her plate, she looks across the way to see if Rhodes is still leaning his forehead forlornly on the vending machine. If he is, her eyes focus on Clint, then glance toward the pilot. Oh, and her eggs are ready.

Peggy Carter has posed:
The tea that Melinda delivered to Peggy results in the Senior Agent's eyes closing after tasting it, it was perfect and her peacefully calm expression shows that she likes it. Its Clint's words that draw Agent Carter's eyes back into an open state and she shows the man a soft smile. "Thank you, Agent Barton." She says then, letting her gaze sweep toward Skye after hearing the string of explitives from the IT Girl. IT... that was a acronym that took her some time to get used in this past year, but there were so many more jobs within SHIELD these days than there were 'back in her day'.

Peggy exhales softly then and sits forward, taking one hand away from her tea to begin to sort her belongings out ontop of the table, to stack them. "I would love to join you all, but I'm sadly on my way to a meeting here in a moment. I have to drive all the way across town as well, and in this city thats as enjoyable as it is to walk across hot coals." She glances up at the others and affords them a faint smile.

"I'd very much like to get a chance to speak with all of you though, I know I'm widely regarded as 'hard to approach' and thats something I mean to change."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint grins at Skye taking the kiss on the cheek. "Yeah, no problem. Likely going to get called to deal with those mushroom creatures sometime today as well," he remarks. "Fitz has got the lab boys working out more freeze arrows for me."

He takes a sip of his coffee, then stands up noticing Rhodes as May points him out. "You're welcome," he says talking to Peggy. "Agent Peggy Carter, this is Agent Skye Johnson and it sounds like you've met May," he doesn't introduce Rhodes given his apparent level of distress, but carries on with the intro to Skye, "Skye, Agent Carter helped found SHIELD and was a friend of Cap's back in the day."

Clint might be a closet Cap fanboy, but shhh on all of that.

Quake has posed:
The return of the laptop is met with a grin. And in a move that might shock the others who know her well enough, Skye sets the thing aside. Well.. not without tapping a few keys and putting a few programs on it to rest. She even goes so far as to close the lid. (I know, you can all gasp now).

"That stuff sounds bad. And yeah, I was trying to get some leads for Marty. Fell down a rabbithole. When I told Fury we should be watching what they did with those back doors?" Skye just shakes her head at Clint.

Peggy, however, is a whole other matter. Skye doesn't do authority. Well, she does, if poorly counts. Fury has gotten exactly one - ONE - "sir" out of her. It's usually boss. Or some muttered expletive string expressing her discontent with his timing.. Peggy she's not sure what to do with.

"Wow, back with Cap, huh? And uh, yeah. Not really the IT girl. That's kind of a joke." Floundering as she's not exactly sure how she's missed the woman before. But then again, it's Skye. When has she actually paid attention to protocol?

Melinda May has posed:
Her own breakfast now in hand along with tea, May starts back to the table where Skye is. At Peggy's declaration of having to drive across town, though, she slows her pace and touches one hand to the comm unit in her ear. A few murmured words later, and she's claiming an empty chair at Skye's table.

"Agent Carter, there will be a helicopter waiting for you on the north helipad in fifteen minutes." She doesn't bother to explain how or why, but then, who here was expecting her to actually offer any more information than absolutely necessary?

The laptop being clearly set aside earns Skye a nod of approval.

Peggy Carter has posed:
Once her belongings were in order upon the table, they were all slipped back into the briefcase on her left side. Peggy keeps her attention on the words from the others and as she starts to rise, reaching out for the cup of tea again she smiles softly toward Clint and Skye. "A very long time ago, yes." She says to them both. "The trials and tribulations of being a woman expelled from her own place in time, by circumstances that so very suddenly boiled over in front of her and have left her here and now, having to essentially start over in a whole new world." Steve was here though... and she was thankful for that, but Steve Rogers was a subject that took some prying to get her to speak on.

As Peggy turns to start to angle her way toward the exit of the room, she pauses again and nods once more toward Skye. "Agent Johnson, yes of course. I recognize you now... I've read a bit about you, you're an exciting young woman. I imagine you've got a very intriguing career ahead of you here." She glances toward Clint. "Be careful with those Freeze Arrows." She says then.

But its May's words that draw her attention away from the two others and she tilts her head gently to the side in a grateful sort of way. "You really are an asset, Melinda. Thank you so much. I hadn't even considered a helicopter ride as an option."

Peggy starts to walk then, briefcase in one hand and warm tea still in the other. "Enjoy the rest of your breaks, Agents." She says, offering them all another calm smile as she goes.

War Machine has posed:
Rhodes fires off a salute back towards Clint. His stance is still as proper as it ever is when giving such things. At the end of the day he's a soldier inspite of whatever condition a day may bring him to.

Even if he is so tired at the moment he could just about fall over where he stood. There's bags under his eyes from a very long night.

He turns back and gives one last thump to the vending machine before reaching down and grabbing his hand deep into the receptacle. A light bit of digging and he now holds in his hand the gold from the end of the rainbow.

It's a simple brown wraping made to look like paper with a coffee bean on the front. He unwraps it while walking over towards the slowly growing group.

The smell of coffee already filled the air from the real stuff but that bar made it an even stronger sensation. An entire cup of coffee in every bite would do wonders for the man.

"Gotta head myself here shortly but there's always time for a few hellos." His voice is tired and worn down already but there's still a smile on his face as he leans slightly to one side chomping down another bite from his energy bar.

There's a brief nod given towards Carter as she leaves the room.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint blinks when Skye actually puts away her computer. He remarks as an aside to May, "Honestly didn't know that thing could close," he jokes.

Clint nods about the code stuff, "Just a few to keep track of huh? The back doors I mean." From what he got of the conversations between Skye and Lag that there were a lot of them and they were very, very bad.

There is a smile for how flustered Skye gets with Peggy, but then he can't really throw stones, he'd been the same way when he first met Cap.

"Will do," he says of the arrows to Peggy, before she takes her leave.

He turns to Rhodes, giving him a worried look, "You okay, man? You're looking kind of rough?"

War Machine has posed:
Rhodes munches away on the bar in his hand just relaxing on the spot as the caffine slowly begins to kick in. "Remember that big rumble around oh six hundred?" He mentioned offhanded.

"Turns out the lab tech's new prototype was pretty flammable after the 18 hour testing mark." All he really has to say on the matter.

Stepping to one side Rhodes plops down on the nearby chair and starts crumbling the energy bar ontop of the delicious foodstuffs before him. He's digging in before anyone has the chance to stop him just trying to put the day that's only just begun behind him.

Melinda May has posed:
May looks at Rhodes, clearly unimpressed by the energy bar. But before she can admonish him for being nearly as bad as Skye, he sits down and tucks in and she can only nod and start in on her own meal.

"How close are you to done with that project, Skye?" She gestures to the now closed laptop with her fork. It might be a less than subtle question about how many more all-nighters the younger agent is planning to pull.

Quake has posed:
Skye.. did not hear any rumble. Totally not surprising. In Skye mode she doesn't notice a whole hell of a lot unless it threatens her internet connection or power source.

But Clint's jab.. she notices. "Haha. You are such an asshole Hotshot. Why do I like you again?" Though she's smirking at him, so how bad can it really be? The thngs she's finding, though.. totally bad.

"Uh, yeah," she mutters around a mouthful of food. "OMG May this is amazing.. and okay, so you know how threads work, right? And subthreads. Shit like that? Imagine that. This whole long cascade - actually. Scratch that. It's more like a nueral net. Totally a cascade. Backdoors in innocuous places that open up into other things that not only don't seem related, but don't even look like a person would give a shit. Like who cares about a dry cleaner's security system. Or the bodega on fifth's delivery schedule. Only, it goes deep after that. The bouncing is incredible. And I'm nowhere near the bottom..."

There's a slight flush from Skye. "I know. I was supposed to be tryng to pin down some things to help Fitzsimmons with Mary. I got lost in this. I mean, it's related, but.."

She just shakes her head.

To answer May: Probably more than anyone is going to be happy about.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint smirks at the counter jab. 'Because I'm awesome?" he offers as a reason.

Before nodding at the computer stuff. He knew enough to know that was /real/ tangle. "So I should just keep the coffee coming, I swear you will be able to actually taste the coffee in it." Though with how Clint takes his coffee you could replace it with water and put in cream and sugar and he'd never tell.

A look's given to Rhodes. "Shit, that's what that was?" he says about the rumble. "Everyone get out okay?" he asks.

Quake has posed:
There's a laugh from Skye who digs into her breakfast. "Yeah. Though I have Marty now. I mean, if you want to put me in a corner and have him water me like a potted plant from time to time."

Her smirk says she's teasing. Maybe. Kind of. After all, there was the whole crew devoted to making sure she got fed, watered, and saw sunlight that last time she got down to business.

"What are they working on?" Rhodes is asked absently. "And shit, you should take better care of yourself."

Melinda May has posed:
May eats without comment, but not without watching Rhodes and Skye to make sure they both eat as well. Of course, Skye's last comment can NOT go unremarked.

"Hello, kettle, pot is calling," she says while looking squarely at the hacker. And then she takes a sip of her tea.

"Barton, when is your next outing to try and deal with those building-sized mushrooms?"

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Tempting fate saying that around May," Clint says of setting Marty handle the care and feeding of Skye. Not that he wasn't equally likely to do that.

"Not sure," he answers May. "Pretty much on 24 hour call right now between SHIELD and the Avengers. I mostly put down the squid things while Tony or Bruce teleport or rip those things out of the ground."

He gives Rhodes a bit of time to answer about the explosion.

Quake has posed:
Skye mutters, "Sure, you don't eat for one mission and everyone thinks you need a nanny."

There's a small frown at Clint's words. "I.. I'm talking to Fitzsimmons about my files. I guess there really isn't going to be a time when things are quiet around here, so, yeah. Figure I'm back on the roster with Marty. Anyway, it'll keep my mind off things, right?"

She turns her head to the door, looking after where Peggy has left. "Like she was really one of the folks who founded here? Just what did she mean I have an intriguing career ahead of me? Was that some sort of diss?"

Skye. Not so good with compliments. And Fury's style was a lot different. He was more a: "I suppose you didn't mess that up too badly, hey, here's something else I want you to do - and don't make me regret it" kinda guy.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Well that one mission lasted a couple of months and none of us can vouch for how much you ate or slept undercover, except for a couple of nights," Clint fires back, grinning, with a nudge of Skye's ankle under the table for good measure.

"And no, not seeing a lot of quiet periods in our future either, and how is it going with Marty? He working out okay?" it'd been a while since he'd crossed paths with the technopath, working more on putting arrows in fungus than computer stuff.

"And yep, she really did help found SHIELD. It was her, Fury and Stark's dad," he says, looking to May for confirmation. He never did go to SHIELD academy, but he had Coulson as an SO so he was up on a lot of the history. "And I'm guessing she means she came up in a time where women were rare in this sort of work, let alone ones who just wrote the rules as they go along like you do. I'd take what she said as a good thing."

Quake has posed:
"Huh." Skye says of Peggy and the assessment. "Who'd have figured." Of course, Skye's career was a bit of a thing to watch.. and quite the anomally. Even if it wasn't a compliment, it still summed things up nicely.

"Just got him settled in with the basics. Figured I'd hit him up with actual training once I hit the lab. Might drag him along for that." Which, should be noted, is a huge step, given what she's going to have Fitzsimmons tend to.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Yeah, I think you two will get along," Clint says of Skye and Peggy. "You should look up some of her old case files sometimes, I think they've got them on computer now. Fun times."

The significance of inviting Lag along to the lab with what Skye and Fitzsimmons were working on isn't lost on Clint and he lets out a low whislte at it. "Must be going well then," he says. "Glad he's working out, I have to admit, I sort of like the guy. When does he start basic tactical training?" he asks remembering Skye and company's time on the rage ending with May shooting Skye in the ass. "I want to get in on that."

Quake has posed:
Skye smirks at Clint, shovelling another mouthful of oatmeal in, and washing it down with still hot coffee. "Funny you should ask that. Was hoping to see if Nat and a couple of you might be interested.. Not sure if we have any other noobs to run through. But maybe there are some who want a refresher? Have a couple other ideas up my sleeves. But I think I'm going to introduce him to basic PT first."

She remembers how long she was stuck in basic PT before she was even ready to start more vigourous training exercises. She'd actually come a long way since then. "At least assess his level. I mean, come on, we were both desk jockeys." Even if Lag stays a desk jockey, the other was mandatory, and as it proved with Skye, before she branched out into actual missions, could save his life.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint grins, "I'm pretty sure Nat would get in on that, probably Cap too if we asked nicely," he says. "And definitely invite Darcy too. That would be fun to see."

He nods about the PT. "That'll be fun on it's own," smirking a little as he asks. "Speaking of, how many pull ups can you do now?" he asks.

"And yeah, good idea, well with the lockdown last year, we know even working a desk can turn into a life or death thing like that," he snaps his fingers.

Quake has posed:
Skye grins. "Heh. I'll figure it out, then. Though.. probably not tomorrow seeing as you have those weeds to deal with."
