Take A Chance On Me
Date of Scene: 21 March 2019
Location: R and D Labs - The Triskelion
Synopsis: Clint, Skye, and May come to welcome Samantha onboard with SHIELD and also inadvertantly end an unadvised experiment on the girl
Cast of Characters: Nyx, Melinda May, Hawkeye (Barton), Quake

Nyx has posed:
Must be another Wednesday, Samantha is in R&D. Of course that is also every other day of the week it seems.

Frankly there has been a pretty stream of various researchers and scientists that have wanted to either check out the girl or test something on her. Most likely hoping it will prompt a breakthrough in their field of study.

Thing is, some of the results may actually push their field further, though most leave frustrated. It is very reminiscent of that quote about any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

There has been cursing.

Still this is now week five of pretty steady testing and Samantha while still amiable is starting to get the resigned boredom that only a professional teenager can get, head tilted back eyes closed as she naps through the latest test. Which involves some labcoat bombarding her with radiation and recording the results.

Honestly he probably didn't get this test cleared with Fitz and Simmons.

A Warning sign is taped to the door.

Melinda May has posed:
It didn't take long for May to locate Samantha, her routines have become rather predictable. So, with Skye and Clint in tow, she heads into R&D and to the lab where various researchers have been trying to turn the kid into their personal lab rat.

No more.

Stopping just outside the door with the warning sign, she signals to those inside requesting access, and uses her security level to indicate to them who it is that's waiting outside. Yes, she could just walk on in, but if someone bothered to put that sign on the door, they did so for a reason.

And she has every intention of telling them exactly how she feels about it.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint and Skye enter on May's six. Noting the sign on the door Clint's brows raise, "What the heck is going on now?" he asks, hand resting on his hip.

When May flashes her assistant directorly credentials to get them inside, Clint offers wryly. "If they don't open up I can always get an explosive arrow for us."

He is only mostly joking.

Quake has posed:
Skye stays out of the way, observing dryly, "Hey, guess it's not an experiment on Skye day." Though she's pretty sure her gloves need a tuneup, and Jemma might want to discuss a few things with her. However, this little party hadn't expected to run into warning signs on the lab.

"Is this even safe?"

Nyx has posed:
There is a crash from inside, okay the labcoat in question, wasn't expecting anyone let alone the acting Deputy Director, and others to come by. He also while having a PHD in physics like most goes by Agent. Agent Abrams to be specific.

As he knocks over the scanner Samantha actually, opens her eyes and looks down puzzled.

Agent Abrams hurries over to the door, wearing one of those lead lined smocks (even has on protective goggles) and peers out at the assembled. He is a little anxious. "Uh, what can I do for you." all of whom out ranks him. There is a sidelong look at sign taped up and he laughs "ah.. someone's idea of a joke.." tearing it down and stuffing it in his pocket sweating a bit.

From inside Samantha asks "Joke?"

Melinda May has posed:
May looks at Clint and Skye as they arrive. "If there's no reply I might take you up on that, Barton." She turns back to the door when there's a crashing noise from inside, immediately going tense as if prepared for the worst.

When the door finally opens, she gives Agent Abrams her most unimpressed stare. "I need to speak with Miss Twinning. Now. And you need to speak with the R&D lead for approval. That," she points to where the sign used to be, "is /not/ acceptable under any circumstances."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint glances back at Skye, "Who knows," he says of it being safe, looking a might bit worried himself. Who knows what was going on.

That said when there is a crash from inside, he's about ready to charge in, all Leroy Jenkins style. Fortunately the appearance of Agent Abrams stops that, and he merely steps forward, "Hey Abrams, step aside for the deputy director, okay, and seriously you guys need to get your act together."

Though for all his seriousness, he can't help but look back over at Skye with a look that says, can you believe, I had to tell someone to get their act together?, though it's only a quick one, before he jostles Abrams out of the way, saying back to Skye and May: "Come on in."

Quake has posed:
"Better watch it, Hotshot," Skye grins at Clint. "They're going to give you a suit next." Because of course, who has ever heard of Clint being the reasonable and rational one, or one to point out the rules? It's almost unheard of. As unheard of as Skye doing the same.

Nyx has posed:
Agent Abrams, Doctor .. .well Abrams looks more anxious now and coughs again, a clear tell. "Um. Yes Deputy Director May..." and as he is justled out of the way by Clint he looks around and then hurries off. Giving them privacy, but mostly not wanting to be here right now. May is frickin intimidating and he is probably in trouble. Crap.

At the sound of Deputy Director May, Clint and Skye well .. Samantha brightens up and waves as they come inside. She is sitting on one of the work benches in her normal SHIELD Fatigues. "Reprieve from tests, my heroes."

There is some sort of device on a tripod tipped over on it's side. Big old dish on the front. Almost looks like a microwave weapon of some sort really. Also the usual array of passive scanners.

Melinda May has posed:
Following Clint into the room, May nods hello to Samantha then looks at the fallen-over thing on its tripod and visually traces its cabling to its power source. And she promptly unplugs it, possible data loss be damned.

"We're here about your recruitment, Miss Twinning. I promised to talk with you about it the other day." And of course, they got sidetracked. But, she's here now. "If you have time." Her eyes flick toward the fallen equipment again.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Oh suuure, give them ideas why don't you," Clint snarks to Skye, blowing this whole grown up facade he maintained for a whole ten seconds. Which might be a new record. "If I end up a suit, I know who to blame."

"Hi Sam," he greets as he enters the room and glances down at the thing on the floor. "What's that? And am I going to need one of those vests Abrams was wearing."

He shuts up when it comes to the recruitment part but drags a chair between himself and the machine on the floor until he knows what it does. Like the chair was going to help.

Quake has posed:
There's a grin for Clint, "Hey, you were the one being all reasonable and stuff, not me. Call it like I see it." Even if she's pretty much in agreement with him that being tied to a desk might be a fate worse than death... other than the fact that in the back of her head, every now and then, she considered what it might look to take her career path down one of it's possible, and probably, outcomes.

She does frown at the upended tripod, with it's saucer dish. "It's for focusing beams," she pionts out. "Like a satellite, only why are they using it here?" The warning sign suggesting worse than radio waves. "You okay, Sam?"

Nyx has posed:
It was thankfully turned off when it toppled over. Well not powered down fully but not doing anything interesting. It fully powers off when May just takes the pragmatic approach and unplugs it.

"Hey Hawkeye." Sam greets him chipperly, yeah she knows it's Agent Barton but she likes saying Hawkeye.

To Skye "Agent Abrams said it was safe." she pauses thoughtfully. "Nyx says it was firing microwaves but I'm fine, Nyx wasn't worried." which is not the safe as it being at all safe.

Then well Samantha gets distracted by Deputy Director May's words. "Oh... um.. yeah." she sits up a bit straighter. "Is this good news?" she hopes it is good news. "I definitely have time."

Melinda May has posed:
"It is good news, yes. Your recruitment into SHIELD is official as of today. You've been assigned to train with Skye for one-on-one sessions, but you will be joining the rest of the recent recruits for group training sessions. You're to follow Skye's schedule until yours is finalized, and get with HR to get your paperwork finalized." She looks at the other two then before turning back to Samantha.

"Welcome to SHIELD, Recruit Twinning."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint grins back at Skye making the flappy hands at her. "Sorry, what was that? Couldn't hear you."

Yeah, so not really all that mature, if May was getting any ideas.

He shares Skye's concern for Sam though, but when the girl, ahem, new agent says she's okay, Clint announces, "Okay, going in," he as he moves to right the device and puts it up right but facing the wall. Then for added saftety he pulls out his phone and snaps a picture sending it to Fitz for identification with the message:

Clint >> What is this thing? Do we need to run?

Then he looks up. "Welcome to the team Sam, sorry to hear you're on Skye's schedule. Hope you don't like sleep," he deadpans that last.

Quake has posed:
Nyx gets a shit-eating grin from Skye, and an elbow for Clint, "Hey. What's wrong with my schedule?"

Other than the fact the girl seemed to have a personal hatred for the daystar that bordered on patholigical.. well, okay, maybe not so deep a hatred, but Skye did tend to keep late hours, and bury herself in her work. Perhaps May didn't mean Skye's schedule *quite* so literally..

"It's not nearly as bad as Clint claims," she tells Sam. (It is.) "And welcome aboard. I can hook you up with my particulars by the time you get your room assignment and your badge and probie uniform. Oh, no ICER unless you're with me. I seem to recall I'm supposed to tell you that one."

Something, something Skye had a bad habit of bending rules.

Nyx has posed:
Samantha fidgets with her hands and then blinks a couple of times. "Okay I want to jump around going woot a lot.. but .. I'm pretty sure that isn't seemly or something." she does grin. "So I get .. I mean..." she slips off the workbench to stand now.

"I'm not afraid of the schedule.. at this point heck I am just excited to be doing .. something.. not being tested and getting out of that room." at that point Samantha pauses "I.. um.. I do get to get out of the room right?" then what Skye said really registers "Woot!" okay she had to. "Wait.. what is an ICER?" brow furrowed.

"Also .. don't care about ICERs.. Do I get social media back and can I go outside... I mean.. the cafeteria is uh.. very nice but I'd kill for a hot dog from a street cart at this point if it came from outside." pause "not literally kill...." Sam notes with a promising tone.

Melinda May has posed:
May is amused by Samantha's excitement and attempts to maintain some semblance of professionalism, and anyone sharp-eyed enough to read her micro-expressions will pick up on it. She lets the kid ramble and subtly freak out a bit, then says in her best serious imitation, "All of that is for your direct senior officer to decide." And then she turns to look at Skye.

Now SKYE gets to be the brunt of SO jokes. Have fun with that.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint meets Skye's question with a confused look and taps his right ear even if his good (left) ear had been pointed in her direction. "Huh?" he asks pretending not to hear the question.

Though he does shake his head quietly to Sam when Skye claims it's not that bad.

As for Sam's need to 'woot' he remarks, "Fill out form 42-a, and submit it to Skye for permission to woot, Agent," with a grin. "You're all hers now."

Which is confirmed, much more seriously by May.

Quake has posed:
Skye shoots May a look, "I see what you just did there. Hahahahah." Her tones are utterly disgusted, if toned way back on that front. "I was not that bad an agent-in-training."

She says this like she hasn't field promoted 2 people, and unofficially taken one of those under her wing to get him pat the red tape of the fact that he was and wasn't an agent but wanted to be involved in her very specific case. Lumley had rejoined the family proper and didn't need an SO anymore, but at the time Skye had been the name on paper.

"Social media limited to SHIELD approved devices for the interim," Skye says much more seriously to Samantha. She might not be triggering alerts on the systems anymore, but Skye was rightfully paranoid the closer they got to tracking Arnim Zola down. A surprise 'oops, did I do that?' by Sam's powers through unvetted devices could be bad (even if it was likely Sam's alter fell into Babs territory of stopping her if she really wanted to wreak havoc).

"Uh.. hotdogs? Sure. Knock yourself out. Report for duty tommorrow after your morning team building, and we'll start officially."

Clint she makes a subtle 'asshole' sign at, then smirks, because really, joshing each other was really them.

Nyx has posed:
Samantha looks between all three of them at the interchange. She is about eighty percent certain there is an inside joke.. ah there it is. This is partially revenge for Skye being a difficult Agent in Training.

The exchange elicits a smile from Samantha and then a blink when she says SHIELD approved devices. Her hand goes up like she is back in High School. Which frankly wasn't that long ago. Honestly she is skipping the whole college degree and three years of professional experience common in many Government Agencies. Special skill exemption really.

In this environment she doesn't wait to ask though. "Two questions. MMmm Maybe Three. So tomorrow, go to HR.. which I assume will tell me where team building is .. help me with the badge and room assignment..and then report to you tomorrow morning?" she has that. "Will HR or you run me through what SHIELD approved devices are?" and an unsaid how they work. God knows she has been locked in a teenage sensory deprivation tank for like ... five weeks. Probably against the Geneva convention.

On the bright side hot dogs and pizza and bat burger. Sam is about vibrating, but not really that might be dangerous, but one can tell by her tone and complete lack of guile.
