Out to Lunch
Date of Scene: 13 September 2019
Location: Fred's Diner - Mutant Town
Synopsis: Joe and Shannon chat and learn a bit about one another.
Cast of Characters: Overlord, Nightingale

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller has just came into the dinner, offering a wave to the waitress, and heads towards the bar. The big man picks one of the sturdier seats, and orders a Dr. Pepper as the waitress asks what he wants, and starts looking at the menu. He seems relaxed, but maybe noticed he has some concrete dust around his shoulders and maybe a bit in his hair.

Nightingale has posed:
Finally, there was some success in replacing those jeans that had been shot--and Shannon had no further mishaps in the process! With the diner not being to her friend's taste, she instead agrees to meet her back at one of the local boutiques a little later, while she herself took advantage of the classic 'greasy spoon' ambience. She slides onto one of the stools at the counter and settles in, plopping her one paper bag down on the ground next to her.

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller hmms and looks over nodding in greeting as the girl sits at the bar as well. He looks to the waitress when she returns, and says "Can I get 2 double bacon cheese burgers, all the way, extra bacon. A large onion ring and a large waffle fry, extra crispy." He smiles and thanks the waitress and sees there seems to be a menu missing at the girls seat offers her his own.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon glances over as a menu is slid down the counter in her direction and offers a smile. "Thanks." She takes a few moments to peruse the offerings, and true to pop culture, avoids having the daily special (insert Spaceballs reference here). She keeps her wings drawn in tightly behind her, especially in the close quarters of the diner. Her order is a little less heart attack inducing. "Cheeseburger, medium well, and some spicy curly fries... and if you've got root beer?" Oh yes, classic comfort foods!

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller looks over and says "Food here is pretty good and decent priced. Don't think I have seen you here before." He looks her over a moment noticing she seems pretty clean cut "Your family just move to the area?" He will ask, turning just a bit to chat easier.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shakes her head. "No, they're back in Connecticut." She smiles some, a little bit on her guard now, her wings ruffling slightly. "You're right, the food here smells good. And it's been forever since I've been in a little diner like this."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller hmms and nods his head a bit to this and says "Your around here alone?" he frowns a bit and says "You should be careful around here aint to bad, but don't head down any side streets alone unless you know the area pretty well.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and smiles to herself. "I've got friends in the area, they do a pretty good job of looking out for me." She offers her hand. No sense in not being at least civil. "Name's Shannon. What's yours?"

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller nods, and says "Joe." He offers her a shake of the hand. She may recognize a shake where it is firm, but there is strength being controlled. "Good, to often when new mutants are coming to the area they end up connecting with some of the wrong elements. Not really a lot can do to help them, but try to at least give warning when I meet one.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and smiles. "That's very kind of you. I'm not keen on going into any back alleys, though, and certainly not alone if I do. I'd rather my folks not get a very ugly call." She's not completely blind to the restrained strength in the handshake, and her own grip is no slouch, either, for her age and size. "Sounds like you've lived in the area for a while, then?"

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller says, "Getting close to 6 months or so now, but to be honest longest I have stayed in one place for a while. Was sorta hoping to have made more of a name for myself, but been more small helping folks with an occasional crazy incident, but I think that is pretty much the story of New York."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon laughs a little bit, swinging her feet and lightly thumping the base of the stool. She rests her elbows briefly on the counter and her chin in her hands, smiling. "Wow, sounds like you might have some stories to tell."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller smiles and says "A couple, but if your thinking more the big ones, probably biggest one was when I ended up fighting a couple sentinels with Green Lantern and a Gorilla." He will say watching her reaction and thanking the waitress as his food is brought over.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon's wings ruffle and she tenses slightly at the mention of Sentinels; it seems a good possibility that she's not completely unfamiliar with those particular beings. Her eyebrows loft, and she smiles a bit. "No kidding? Green Lantern? Whew, that's something, then."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller nods, and says "Yea, was weird though if I am being honest. There was like 3 of the damn things showed up where I was working, thought they were after me, but did not seem I was their primary target, but was not going to stand around and let them hurt anyone so winged a forklift at one of their heads, but before long three more showed up and ended up helping us fight the original three sentinels.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon raises her eyebrows. "Whew... three Sentinels? You're lucky to be in one piece." She cants her head slightly and has to sit up straight as the waitress brings her food. She smiles and thanks her, tucking into her spicy curly fries while they're still hot. "So three more showed up? At least you had backup."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller nods, and says "Yea, I am stronger and tougher than a lot, but will admit, glad there were cargo containers between me and it when it tried to blast me. Damn things are heavy as all get out." Oh sorry excuse my language.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon rolls her eyes and laughs. "I've heard and used worse, shame on me. My ears won't fall off from an f-bomb or two." As intently as she was paying attention to Joseph's story, it's not hard to see the wheels in her head turning, or to picture her like a sponge soaking up every bit of knowledge she can. "Sounds like you did alright, though, and hopefully nobody got hurt in the end?"

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller says, "Well mostly only minor injuries, but seems someone took the time to end a beef with one of the bosses on the dock permanently. With what happened wondered a bit if maybe he had called the sentinels in on someone and the guy decided to pay him back for trying to kill him."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods and shivers a little. "Well... sounds like everyone was lucky worse didn't happen. It's too easy to see things go really wrong really fast." Her fries become -very- interesting all of a sudden, and she goes quiet, munching on the savory treat.

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller nods his head, a bit and says "So, problems back in Connecticut drive you up here? Sucks to see a kid driven away from her family."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shrugs, and smiles. "It wasn't a very mutant friendly area. It's okay, though, I landed on my feet. And it's not as if I'm out of touch with my family." She takes a big bite out of the burger and can't help giggling with her mouth full, as a napkin becomes a necessity from just how juicy the treat is. "S'good."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller nods, and says "See I told ya good food." He will eat his own, seems he has a bit of experience with these though as there is not a big mess, but he does use the fries to mop up any mess on the plate a bit

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and makes short work of the bit in her mouth, sending it on its way to her belly. "You weren't kidding!" She gets a couple napkins for her face, grinning like a little kid caught with their hand in a jar full of their favorite cookies. "Sure doesn't sound like life here's going to be very dull at all."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller says, "Well, it seems to be somewhat like that for any of us who are different no matter where we are to be honest. I have traveled over a decent part of this country and a couple other countries. Even when folks think I am just a big guy things can get interesting."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods. "And sometimes, even when folks think all you are is just some kid who happens to look a little different, too." She shrugs, and smiles somewhat. "We're all of us more than we seem, or at least have the potential to be so." She seems to pause and rolls her eyes. "Oi, if my folks could hear me now. I'd never hear the end of 'We told you so'."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller chuckles a bit and says "Well sounds like your folks might be pretty smart folks then. Not sure who your friends are around here, but if your ever in trouble check in here, and let me know, would say come by my work, but no, that would not be good.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and smiles a bit. "Well, hopefully I won't land in -too- much trouble. But if I'm in the area, I'll keep an eye out for you." It was pretty plain she was playing it cautious, though she tilts her head as if trying to figure out just how far to trust this one.

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller looks to her and says "Ok, ask whats on your mind, I will try to answer it if I can.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shakes her head and grins lopsidedly, shrugging. "Can't think of any questions, though. I've been pretty lucky so far, trusting folks, but sooner or later that luck's going to run out. I'd sort of like to stack the odds in my favor. Please, I hope that's not taken as an insult, because it's not meant as one."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller shakes his head a bit and says "Nope makes sense, thats part of why I made sure to say if ya needed help you came here instead of giving ya my number or such.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and smiles. "Well... let's hope we don't meet under circumstances like that. That'd kind of stink." The rest of her burger and fries disappear in short order, as does her root beer. "I should be heading off, though. It was really great to meet you, Joseph." She smiles and signals to the waitress for her check, making sure to leave a nice tip for her.
