A little Sam to Sam.
Date of Scene: 27 October 2019
Location: Sam's Room (West Halls), Xavier's School
Synopsis: Thoughts and concerns are voiced.
Cast of Characters: Cannonball, Samuel Morgan

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie leads Sam up to his room, and moves to have a seat motioning to the other to have a seat and expects he won't but lets him have a chance. "Ok, so lets start off with why you went off without telling me or anyone your plan?

Samuel Morgan has posed:
This may lead to the first surprise of the evening. Yes, it would be natural to assume that Bean would refuse to sit and instead go to rigid attention the moment he was asked a question... but Sam had mentioned considering him as the reserve leader of the team, and that meant that this wasn't a formal reprimand, but a formally informal conversation between an officer and an officer candidate. Different rules applied. And so Bean seats... rigidly, but sits nevertheless.

"Two distinct reasons. First of all, this mission was best suited for a single individual. I've done this sort of thing before, and was confident it could be done without complication. Secondly, because you would have disapproved, or insisted on debating the matter. The fewer people that knew about this, the easier the mission and the more certain the outcome."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the man and says "Going in and setting up friends of humanity to be arrested by the local law enforcement? Now that Ah might have been ok with maybe even supports, alone no, at the very least Ah would have wanted you to have back up, possible even help teach some of your methods. Ah would have suggest you not go out when you had a mad on your more likely to make mistakes then.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"I will be happy to teach people my methods in the Danger Room." is Bean's response, looking directly at Sam. "Never in a live environment. Things are too fluid, that's how people die." He holds up a hand immediately to forestall comment. "Please don't dispute that. I've seen it happen more than once. With the simulation technology we have here anyway, the difference will be negligible with none of the associated risks."

Then it's time to admit fault. "Going out when I'm angry is a mistake, and I agree. But unless and until I have rated people to be experts or at least competent in these kinds of missions, I will do them solo."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the other man and says "You realize your a student here, even with all your training, your learning things still, and Ah am responsible for you. " He sighs a bit and says "You have already told me your worried about Hydra jumping you again. Even without the back up for the mission you do not need to be out on your own. You are not a one man squad, your out of being controlled and punished the way hydra did, but you are here as part of this school, and part of the teams that work out of it.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"I am extremely familiar with the prevailing tactical situation in New York at the moment." Bean returns. It was, after all, his cooperation with Fisk and the vigilantes that gave him the information he needed to start going after the Friends of Humanity in the first place. "Enough that I'm confident that there were no HYDRA squads in the area. Besides, I had my tracker on me, the phone in my room was a clone set to receive messages and ping admin queries."

Having said that, Bean seems ponder something, blink, and reach into a pocket for a bottle of pills. He shakes out a capsule and swallows it, replacing the bottle, and then returns to the conversation. "I recall someone once telling me that I should loosen up and get into trouble more often."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the man, as he thinks about throttling Doug for a moment, and says "And how are you such an expert on New York right now?" He will ask him crossing his arms, and says "And getting into trouble alone vs getting in trouble with back up there is a different thing.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Insider knowledge." It's delivered in the kind of tone that seems to imply that Sam really doesn't want to know more about it, and Bean would be compelled to answer if the questions persisted. Would possibly be compelled to lie, and that's not sitting well with him at all. "Going in alone reduces the risk of exposure to this facility. If caught an interrogated, I am confident I could escape before any useful information could be extracted. Can you say the same for other people that would join me?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Depends on which ones, some of them I would trust a lot more than you to be able to get in and out, as htey have been doing it for much much longer. Some I would trust to be able to get themselves and you out as well."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"If you are referring to Laura, I would agree with you. She's trustworthy, and can handle herself." There, that's high praise from Bean. Unfortunately, as per usual, the subject of the praise is nowhere around to hear it. "But we are discussing hypotheticals and are in danger of crossing entirely into the realm of the metaphysical."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Possibly even some of the greater staff. Logan of Kurt both could have been there to make sure everything went well. I could have went along to make sure you had a way out, and also to evaluate your skills and abilities in the field."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Bean nods. "Granted. But Herr Wagner is very recognisable. And no offense, Mister Guthrie, but I haven't seen enough of your performance to rate you, just as how you have not seen enough of mine to form a solid idea of my capabilities."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the man and says "Kurt is also one of the most stealthy people you will meet, and also can use image inducers when need. Your not to leave the mansion alone for a month and anyone you take with you your responsible for their well being unless they are at least 19

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"I understand Mister Guthrie." Bean nods, solemnly. "Although I should point out that I was not allowed to leave the mansion unescorted up to this point regardless." Possibly not helping his case here, but never let it be said that Bean isn't honest. "I should also tell you that I've offered my services as a consultant to a loose coalition of heroes and vigilantes in their fight against a group know as 'The Foot'. Their own tactical expertise was... lacking."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over to him, and says "And you ditched your tail, which is part of what I am thinking about for assigning your full punishment.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"In their defense..." because yes, Bean is going to stop the people who were supposed to watch him from getting into trouble. This is his mistake, nobody else's "... they were never supposed to check on me after I go to my room. It was assumed that the motion sensors would detect me if I decided to leave via... let us say a less ordinary route. Sam..." And now Bean drops the rigidity entirely, relaxing where he sits, looking suddenly world weary. "Sam, you can't track me if I don't want to be tracked. Can we please just not try to increase the frustration for all involved? I feel like a prisoner with someone always looking over my shoulder."

Having said that much, he continues, shaking his head and then looking out the window. "You said that I should trust you, but that I've done nothing to earn your trust. You didn't have to tell me that, because I know. I can see that distrust every day. I'm not even trusted to talk to other students without someone around to make sure I don't harm them. It's like being under close arrest. Ever been under close arrest, Sam?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the other man and says "Oh you see that distrust in me? The man who trusted you with the baton, the one who did not give you the whole you hurt her Ah break your legs speach? Ah believe you had two people here who trusted you not to do something dumb, and even tried to understand what others would not.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"I see that distrust in the school. And I handed that baton back in the very moment I doubted my own judgment." Bean still doesn't look back, flexing his fingers for a moment. "You know I would never harm Shannon. That's the whole reason I..." Okay, yes, now he is looking back. The anger is bubbling back up too.

"They hurt her. Not directly, but they might as well have. I promised I'd repay anyone who harmed her in the same coin. So that's what I did. My only regret today, Sam, is that I had to wait until there was only three of them. And the next person, the next group that causes her harm? They're getting the exact same thing."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to him, and says "No, they did not harm her, they harmed an innocent woman, who just wanted to help people. Shannon choose to take the hurt on herself. You can be pissed off when someone hurts her and they were bad people, but they were not the ones to hurt her. Thats giving yourself an excuse for wanting to hurt them.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Yes. They hurt an innocent woman. For helping mutants." Bean's cold rage seems to grow hotter, and he takes a deep breath. "They set her on fire. On fire, Sam. Those are tactics designed to terrorise, to break resistance against their cause. They want everyone to be afraid of the consequences of disagreeing with them. So today I showed them that they are the ones that should be afraid. Maybe I used Shannon as a way to justify it to myself, to force myself to take action... but they had it coming, had it coming a long time ago. Please tell me you don't disagree with that."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "No, I disagree with how you handled it, and not working as a team when you had the opurtunity."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the other and says "Ah am going to need some time to think about what I need to do here. Erik would have grounded ya perhaps for life, but grounding does not work and Ah know this, You can go for now.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Samuel sits up more rigidly again. "You may disagree with me on form. That is your prerogative. But I stand by my decisions, and I would make them again, even with the benefit of hindsight. Vi's appearance was a complication, but it was handled in the best possible way. Just another example of how reality is more fluid than any simulation."

Upon being told he can go, Bean stands, slowly, and then does come to attention. "Sir." After uttering the monosyllable, he turns with precision towards the door and marches out.
