Profile

Abbey Chase has a reputation. She has a rap sheet. She is on the Most Wanted List for a number of countries around the world. But it isn't because she is a criminal though! It's because it was all a big misunderstanding. Huge misunderstanding. She was really there to study the ancient culture of <MumbleMumble> and if El Presidente hadn't sent in his militia to take over the project they wouldn't have see her carefully packing up crates of artifacts to take back to the Universidad so she could study them in a proper lab environment. Yes, it LOOKED like she was crating them up to steal them and, yes, the crates did have shipping addresses in the United States. Do you know how difficult it is to find crates that size? Those golden statues are extremely large and oddly shaped. The crates came from the U.S. with her gear in them! It was only a matter of convenience. Really!

If one can look past the occasional ethical or moral failings that have been known to occur, Abbey Chase is a brilliant and talented relict hunter, archeologist and linguistics ingénue.

Standing a little over five and a half feet tall, this woman could well be a super model if she were to chose that career. She carries herself with the confidence and surety of a woman who knows exactly what she will make of herself. There is, however, a subtle harder edge within the gaze of those emerald eyes. Her hair shines in the light a corn silk blonde hue, falling just to her shoulders. The golden halo of hair frames a heart shaped face with high cheek bones and a small chin. Ruby lips bear only a hint of gloss to protect them. A slender neck blends into straight shoulders and long, sinuous arms. Her body is physically fit with a narrow waist and well curved hips. Her legs are strong like those of a runner.

She wears a white tee shirt that clings to every curve of her ribs and torso, though it ends an inch above the light blue jeans tightly hugging her hips and legs. A few snags have caught the denim and caused frayed white strings to dangle and reveal tanned skin underneath. She wears white cross trainers on her feet.

History

Not much is known about the past of Abbey Chase. There are few details on her childhood, her parents or any siblings she may have. It is not entirely clear whether Abbey Chase is even her birth name though she claims that it is. She is known to have attended private schools in Boston and to have not only excelled at sports - namely target shooting, gymnastics and rugby - but also had a voracious appetite for books and learning, in particular world history. She also discovered a natural linguistic talent. It seemed that any language she set about learning she could quickly pick up, modern or ancient. She attended Boston University and earned her Masters in Archaeology.

Her first expedition ended in disaster when a rival showed up with a team of armed mercenaries and forcibly took over the dig site and took possession of all the artifacts her team had already recovered. With barely enough money to make it home she began to nurse her wounded pride while she prepared a presentation for another expedition. When she took her research to an investment group to secure funding, she was informed that they had chosen the site for an expedition they were already forming - with her rival as the leader.

Abbey only had a few months to plan but she learned from her experiences and adapted. If legitimate archaeology could not, or would not enable her to make a living, she would turn to treasure hunting and make her money from selling to the highest bidder. She knew where her rival was going and she knew about when he would be there. She got there first, recovered the most valuable pieces and was gone before the expedition was even in the country. She'd discovered her calling - the thrill of improvisation, the freedom from red tape and regulations. She could pursue history and relic hunting according to her own creed. And if things turned sideways - which seemed to be inevitable - she trusted she could always talk or shoot her way out of any jam.

Abbey's most notorious adventure to date was also her first encounter with the private spy agency known as Danger Girl Incorporated. In need of a capable operative with vast archaeologic experience the Danger Girls approached Abbey just after she had recovered the Golden Skull of Koo Koo Diego in the country of Costa Rica. They sought her help in locating a particular relic - The Shield of Immunity once wielded by Aticleas, the general of the armies of the lost city of Atlantis. Along with the Helm of Second Sight and the Sword of Sovereignty, they would being the bearer great powers.

Abbey was able to trace the shield to a private collection in France but it was stolen by a special items/weapons dealer before she could move in to obtain it herself. After a frenetic chase across much of Europe that ended at a mansion high in the Swiss Alps, she was able to steal it from the dealer just before he was to hand it over to agents of Hammer, an organization with ties tracing back to WWII and Nazi Germany. Once she had secured the shield, the Danger Girl team revealed the real reason why a spy agency was after it. They were out to stop the Hammer organization and their aims to create a so-called Fourth Reich by uniting Aticleas' armor and weapons for their leader. Hammer already was in possession of the Helm of Second Sight and were closing in on the Sword of Sovereignty. With her strong research abilities and the Danger Girl's mobile operations to transport the team, Abbey dove on the wreck of a German WWII submarine and recovered the sword ahead of Hammer only be captured when one member of Danger Girl betrayed the team and was revealed to be a Hammer agent.

Taken to Hammer Island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, Hammer united the sword and helm with the shield agents had recovered from the Danger Girl yacht while Abbey was diving on the wreck. With all three pieces in his possession the Hammer's leader, once a member of the Nazis in WWII, was possessed by the spirit of Aticleas himself. In the ensuing confusion, the Danger Girls (minus the traitor) and Abbey were able to not only stop Hammer, but trigger the destruction of Hammer Island and the ultimate death of the restored Aticleas as the ocean flooded over the crumbling island.

Abbey parted ways with Danger Girl Incorporated on friendly terms but did not, at that time, join the team in any official capacity. She continues to circle the globe searching for lost artifacts and relics while doing her best to remain two steps ahead of local authorities, war lords or private collectors with vendettas against her.

Personality

- Confident: Abbey knows her field cold. She knows her abilities, she trusts her research methods and her many talents and skills are the tools she can absolutely place her trust in.

- Adaptable: She was primarily a loner growing up and in primary school, but once in University she showed she could become a team player and work with groups. Working on dig sites it was critical to communicate particularly when fragile sites could well collapse all around them.

- Leader: Abbey has led a number of expeditions, some while at Boston University and others since earning her Masters. She has a keen insight into overseeing a group and developing a plan and timeline for a project.

- Improvisational: Because of her self-confidence, Abbey tends to take unnecessary chances in risky situations. Partially for the thrill but also because she simply believes she can pull off whatever crazy stunt she has failed to think fully through before hand.

- Charming: Abbey can be playful and fun loving. She also understands when to use culture and manners to behave as a socialite when necessary.

Skills

SKILLS
- Marksman: Abbey Chase is a champion marksman in both pistol and rifle categories. She is no trick shooter but she can hit targets dead center while on the move or from a mile away with a sniper rifle under the worst conditions.

- Linguistic Prodigy: Abbey discovered as a child that she could easily pick up and use new languages. Whether it is the language of a long lost civilization or Modern Day Urdu she can seemingly pick out the structure and cadence of the language like fitting together a jigsaw puzzle. The list of languages she doesn't speak or understand fluently is shorter than those she knows.

- History Scholar: Abbey has loved history since she was a little girl. Her love of reading about ancient culture and civilization led her to earn her Master's in Archaeology. She is working on earning her Doctorate when she gets time between adventures and well paying treasure hunts.

- Research: Abbey picked up the foundations of research skills in primary school. In undergrad and graduate classes and in preparation for expeditions to far away places she honed those skills and further improved them. She cannot find something that does not exist but she is determined and relentless and can chase down the most obscure references.

- Athletic: Abbey was active in rugby and gymnastics from primary up through collegiate levels. She has the endurance to run a marathon, the agility and quickness to evade attackers and counter strike, the training to tackle someone and bring them down even if they are larger and heavier than she is. She is a skilled SCUBA diver down to maximum depths. She can sprint 100m in ~10.79s. She is fully certified for solo sky diving, as well as climbing ascents up to VI(TD) in the French Alpine Rating System. She has climbed harder but has not been certified. Who has time for that when there is treasure to be hunted?

- Charisma: She can turn on the smoldering charm and become the proverbial femme fatale. It helps that she is athletic and her appearance is more than a little easy on the eyes. At the same time, she can pass for wide eyed and innocent. The wholesome girl next door to catch others off guard. If a girl's got the tools and the talent why should she not use them before they are lost?

- Driving: Abbey can confidently drive manual and automatic transmission vehicles up to 2.5 ton heavy duty trucks, excavation equipment, cars and trucks and motorcycles. She loves to drive fast and has the wits and awareness to do so with a modicum of safety.

RESOURCES
- Degree: Abbey Chase graduated with honors from Boston University with a Masters in Archaeology. It may not be a Doctorate (yet), but it is certainly something that she is proud of. That academic achievement helps to open doors that might otherwise remain closed.

- Research Data: Abbey has every single file, every copy of pages from books in archives, every letter, every scrap of paper no matter how seeming insignificant it might be that relates to any of the research she has done into Archaeologic sites, digs, lost cities, relics and artifacts that have interested her or her clients. She has a considerable amount, both physical and digital that she keeps in her apartment, and a duplicated set she keeps in a storage unit in Boston.

- Contacts: Abbey has built up a list of contacts around the world in her time as an archaeologist and, now, treasure hunter. She has weapons dealers, outfitters, fences and even some government and local officials she can call on when needed. Of course most of them require some greasing in the form of many American Dollars in their palm before they will truly cooperate. But she at least knows who to bribe in most cases.

- Wealth: Abbey was not born into old money. She had to earn her wealth by putting her boots on the ground. She has assets and valuable artifacts/relics she has kept that are worth around 15 million USD. More comes in depending on the jobs she takes. Enough that she can pay her bills and refit/repair herself and her gear as needed without dipping into that figure often.

- Vehicles: Abbey has a sports car, an off road 4x4, and a street bike. They are not ultimate/top of the line but they are very good choices for their specialties and well cared for (and used!).

- Home: Abbey owns an apartment in New York City near Central Park. It isn't top floor, and it isn't huge (1000sqft) but it is comfortable and she even as two windows that look out onto the Park. Bonus!

Weaknesses

WEAKNESSES
- Freelance: Abbey is not an acclaimed archaeologist on staff with any college or university. She has no single wealthy patron she is employed by to find valuable and historic items for. She is on her own and only has her reputation for completing jobs no one else is usually willing to take to promote her chosen livelihood. Sometimes her reputation precedes her be it for good or, often, bad.

- Lawless: Abbey is willing to skirt outside the lines of local bureaucracy and national sovereignty to get her treasures. Sometimes it is admirable. Most of the time, it just angers those with power - who could potentially make her life very miserable.

- Enemies: Abbey often finds herself trying to elude the many criminal and mercenary characters she's crossed or outwitted in past encounters. Rival treasure hunters, would-be archaeologists with something to prove, even servers at fine restaurants where she's skipped out without paying the check for any number of reasons (most begin with 'B' and end with 'ullet').
