Description

Excitement personified, Longshot lives to entertain and do so with a smile on his face. He's six feet tall, built lean and athletic, with striking blue eyes and a jawline that a model would envy. He has dark blonde hair, stylishly cut, shaved on the sides and long on top, with bangs swept across his forehead. His left eye has a bit of extra sparkle in it, prone to glowing golden when he's in action. He has a rakish demeanor and a crooked smile and to say he's good looking would be an understatement.

He wears a stylized leather jacket, textured at the shoulders and the elbows, with numerous pockets and zippers. Underneath, he wears a simple white t-shirt, strained over his muscled build. The jacket has a golden star symbol on the left breast. He has slick blue pants and boots made to give him maximum footing. A bandolier slung across his chest when going into action carries numerous trademark throwing blades. He moves with catlike grace and assurance, utterly balanced, utterly unafraid.

History

Longshot was created in a pocket realm known as the Mojoverse. Lab-grown, he was designed to be an entertainment star, a perpetual actor in the televised programming and distraction that fulfilled so many of the gluttonous denizens of that stunted world. Handsome, athletic, daring and true, Longshot quickly became the most beloved star of Mojo's network, drawing in the highest ratings and the most money. Unfortunately for Mojo, Longshot's programmer helped install a mutant bonus inside him: free will. As Longshot began to truly understand good and bad, he began to realize that Mojo was not a very nice creature, not at all. He saw the enslavement and the cruelty and the exploitation around him. And he rebelled.

The rebellion had very mixed results. While they made inroads, Mojo's power was deeply entrenched and he was hard to overcome. Eventually, cornered, Longshot was forced to retreat through a dimensional portal, destroying it behind him and leaving himself stranding in New York City. Luck was on his side, however, as he quickly found a house sitting gig and a modelling job and a wallet full of money in the gutter. Somehow he always makes it through, one way or another. While looking over his shoulder for Mojo's agents, he's doing his best to mete out justice and fight the bad guys the same way he always did: with style.

Personality

Longshot is friendly, optimistic, well-intentioned and generally a darn good guy. He's fearless in most things, having been created with incredible luck and the privilege of good looks. That said, he doesn't have much in the way of ego - he likes attention and enjoys praise, but he doesn't think he's better than anyone and he's got a lot of compassion and heart (two hearts, in fact). He can be a little dopey and naive now and again, but his charisma is such that people often try to look out for him. While he's slow to anger, he can be extremely fierce and implacable if roused and will fight to the death for something he believes in.

Abilities

PHYSIOLOGY
Longshot's a genetically engineered being, crafted from scratch for the explicit purpose of entertainment and athleticism. His dexterity is at least five times the human peak, enabling him to make incredible acrobatic maneuvers. His reaction times and agility are similarly enhanced, giving him great control and response times that would even let him dodge gunfire at a relatively short range. His strength is around the human peak and doesn't require exercise or diet to maintain, his efficient metabolism keeping him quite healthy. He is immune to most terrestrial diseases. He has two hearts, four fingers on each hand and a mild healing factor which can handle bumps and bruises but isn't enough to handle serious or mortal injuries. He'll heal a bit faster than a normal person, but not so fast as to make him super-durable. Thankfully, with his luck, he usually doesn't have to be.

PROBABILITY FIELD
Longshot generates a probability field that alters chances and luck to his advantage. It's not an exact science by any means, just making coincidence, timing and happenstance fall his way, enabling him to perform unlikely feats of derring-do and athletic heroism. For example, if he leaps off a building, he'll probably catch a flagpole on the way down and, if there's a truck beneath him, it will probably be full of straw. He gets lucky ricochets when he misses a throw and somehow ducks just before the blade's about to hit his neck from behind. If something is entirely impossible, even by any stretch of the odds, then he still can't do it. But if there is a chance, even a slender one, even a tenth of one percent, odds will swing in his favor and he can pull it off. Ironically, simpler things don't trigger his probability field and he's more likely to make mistakes on low-risk activities than he is doing something truly dangerous.

A side effect of his luck is that it tends to warp the luck of those around him. Equal and opposite reactions lead to others nearby growing clumsy or having unfortunate accidents. Sometimes even his friends. All of this is automatic, so he can't really do anything about it anyway. One of the telltale marks of his powers working is his left eye will begin to glow with golden light when he's on a lucky run.

PSYCHOMETRY

Longshot possesses the ability to read psychic impressions off of inanimate objects. He can know who's held or used them last, something of their origins, strong emotions tied to them or even read events that have occured around them if they've left enough of a psychic impression. Mundane traces only last for a day, but extraordinary occurences leave marks he can read weeks, months or even years later. The use of this power requires physical touch and only works on things, not people.

Skills

ACROBATICS
Longshot is a master acrobat, tumbler and parkour artist. He can incorporate flips and pageantry into almost any motion. He has incredible physical control and technique. He can easily do a backflip from a flat, standing start, jump nearly ten feet in the air and somersault around obstacles while running from rooftop to rooftop.

BLADES
Longshot is particular skilled with blades, both throwing and in melee combat. He's a trained fencer, comfortable with most forms of sword, although he tends to favor the Japanese styles because they're more cinematic. His trademark weapons are a set of slender throwing blades, clasped between the fingers and thrown with startling accuracy from a distance.

CHARISMA
Longshot is incredibly likable. He's nice, funny, good-looking, clever in his own way and supportive of others. He has a certain sort of natural magnetism that made him a star back home and could easily do the same for him here, given the right opportunities.

COMBAT
Longshot's extensive martial skills have all been pre-programmed, wired into his neural net and function somewhat on automatic. He's an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, combining a variety of disciplines, while adding a certain showmanship and joie de vivre to all his movements, making him both entertaining and dangerous in a fight. He's adept with most forms of firearms and an excellent marksman.

SHOWMANSHIP

Longshot wasn't designed to be so much a warrior as an entertainer. He fights magnificently, but the magnificence isn't accidental - it is absolutely by design. He is a show off, flamboyant and very aware of the dramatic beats of his actions. He knows how to get people's attention, put on a good show, and build to a proper resolution. He makes sure things are rarely boring.

Resources

GEAR
Longshot has a reinforced jacket that's capable of withstanding even high caliber bullets. He keeps a bandolier and dozens of thin, flexible throwing blades that he uses as his primary weapons. He also has a sword and a pair of solar-charged photonic pistols that he had on him when he arrived. The pistols blast concentrated energy charges that have an impact equivalent to a .357 magnum. Of course, if they break, he's out of luck...which is probably why they never break.

THE BREAKS

A side effect of Longshot's probability aura is that things just tend to go his way. That most dramatically works in terms of amazing feats of derring-do, but it's also practically useful. He finds a lot of coins, wins the lotto, stumbles into modelling jobs and finds places to live and stay for relatively nothing. He rarely maintains a long-term residence, but he doesn't need much anyway, given that he lived in a small nondescript cell through most of his early life. He manages to make Goodwill clothes look stylish and, in general, just doesn't have to worry about things.

Weaknesses

CAUSALITY
A side effect of Longshot's probability field tends to be a cascade of bad luck around him. It's not always obvious or immediate (and sometimes plays in his favor, even if it's bad for those subjected to it). But it will sometimes catch up allies and innocents in an unexpected backlash from him bending the laws of chance in his favor.

GUILELESS
There is a famous saying: "Evil will always win because good is dumb." Longshot embodies that a little bit. He's not actually stupid, but he is surprisingly trusting, open and naive. He's not particularly hard to trick, since his understanding of good and evil is largely informed by stereotypes and character archetypes from the numerous trashy fictions in which he's starred.

MOJO
Longshot is a fugitive from the Mojoverse. He is currently stranded in the Earth dimension and is unable to return. Which doesn't mean that his old boss won't come looking or send agents to try and retrieve him. He's worth a lot of money to Mojo and Mojo never gives up money or power if he can help it.

OBVIOUS
Longshot mostly passes for human, but he has differences. Most notably, he has three large fingers and a thumb on each hand, rather than the four fingers and thumb found in average humans. In addition, his left eye has a powerful, luminescent glint that glows even stronger when luck is going his way.

PURE OF HEART
Longshot's probability field is tied into his intentions. So long as he is sincere and trying to do the right thing, luck goes his way. His power begins to falter if he acts selfishly or with cruelty. He is intended to embody a heroic ideal and his powers don't work if he doesn't.

RISK-REWARD

Longshot's probability alteration means that he's actually better off taking chances. If he plays it safe or does something without a great deal of odds, his field won't be triggered and he can be sloppy or make mistakes simply because he doesn't have that cushion of luck to glide on.
