Jeanne Laurent is a tiny, unassuming young nun. Shy, but full of true kindness and love for those around her, few suspect her of being The Maiden of Light, a confident and strong superheroine. Able to create and shape blessed light into armor and protective shields, she wields the holy battle standard of Jeanne D'Arc to protect the innocent from unholy beings and criminals alike. Cursed with nightmares of her previous life, struggling to better harness her powers as a mutant and the weight of her responsibility to live up to a legend, it's faith and the friendship of those she meets that keeps her going.

Description:

At just around 4'7", and rail-like in figure, Jeanne Laurent is not an imposing young woman. This teenager has long, flowing blonde locks kept in a braid reaching to her hips. Her face borders more on the side of cute than beautiful, with a girl-next-door look to the green-eyed blonde. Her figure is thin, with a modest bust and overall a gymnast look to her.

She tends to wear a nun's garments normally, or sundresses in more casual situations. In battle, she's clad in white armor, with heavy gauntlets and a breastplate covering her upper portion, while a short armored skirt hangs down to her upper thigh. A pair of iron greaves ends above her knees.

An unremarkable sword is sheathed at her sword, while she is rarely seen without a long battle standard. A white flag over a field of lillies, with images of angels and Jesus depicted on it.

History

History:

Jeanne, an orphan due to sickness, grew up in a convent in rural France. Even from an early age, Jeanne was a kind and loving soul that followed the ways of the convent eagerly and with faith that overjoyed those around her. Though her inability to learn to read hampered her, she grew up with the love of the priest and fellow nuns and laymen at the place. She seemed set to grow into the picture of a nun, using her faith and good deeds to overcome her weaknesses. But, she was destined for other things.

At the age of thirteen, while helping an elderly man in town cross the street, a vision struck her. Of the man on her arm being struck by a car. Seconds later, a drunk driver blew a light. Calling out to the Lord to protect the old man, a shield of light emerged from Jeanne's hand, stopping the car from hurting either of them. Jeanne had awakened her mutant powers.

News of this quickly reached the convent. Though overjoyed for Jeanne's heroic act, so too did they fear reprisals on the convent for her being a mutant. The convent debated for a week, unable to throw out the girl they considered a daughter even as they worried for each other. Jeanne heard the voices that night, a vision of an abandoned church. Packing her bags, she bid all that she knew and loved goodbye. In that small, crumbling ruins of a church, she found a cloth wrapped Battle Standard. Recognizing it by sight, she felt full of purpose as she held it. Many sleepless nights followed. Plagued by both nightmares and visions, she practiced her powers, slept on city benches, and made her way through the world as a traveling nun with the kindness of the Church at her back. She endured, and her powers grew. Three more years would pass, visiting holy sites and trying to make sense of her dreams. Finally, after stopping several robberies through pure chance, and a run-in with a demon, Jeanne took up the name Maiden of Light. Swearing to stop crime and the unholy creatures plaguing the innocent, she found purpose in the burden given her.

Now, as a superhero, she works to uphold the legacy she's inherited, and to seek out more about her predecessor so that she can prove worthy of her blessings. And maybe make a friend or two along the way.

Personality:

Jeanne is an extremely kind soul, embodying many of the virtues expected of a nun. Polite, loving, and faithful, she's quick with a kind word and always does her best to help those in need often at cost to herself. Though naieve in many ways, when it comes to spiritual topics she's often wiser than many priests. She is also shy, though not cripplingly so, and often times very formal with those she's just met. She tends to believe the best in people, and is forgiving, her faith leading her to believe that even criminals the likes of the Joker can be redeemed. Extremely devout, she follows the tenents of the catholic church closely, and often tries to drag friends to church or charity drives. Easily embarrassed, particularly about her lack of skills in reading, she often wears a blush. As the Maiden of Light, she gives off an aura of confidence and purpose. It is however largely a mask, even if she wholeheartedly believes in saving the innocent and fighting demons. Secretly, she often feels as though she's unworthy of the gifts and duty bestowed on her, growing melancholy and depressed. She also struggles with nightmares and a deep phobia of fire.

Blessed Light:
Jeanne's ability is to create and shape blessed light. Currently, she can use this ability to create her Armor of Light, as well as create shields the size of a person able to withstand the force of a tank blast, and shield from superhuman strikes briefly before shattering. She also can produce bolts of blessed light, and radiate light at will. Unholy creatures struck by or enveloped in her light are scorched and burned by the power of Jeanne's faith and the blessing she's under.

Divine Voice:
Through dreams, visions, and voices in her head, Jeanne gains premonitions about the future. They are always vague, only pointing her in the right direction, leading her to the people and places where she's needed most. She follows these premonitions unthinkingly, even if they often lead her into danger and strange places for a nun.

Saint's Reincarnation:
Jeanne is truly her namesake reborn, and as such possesses the holiness of a saint. So long as she maintains her faith, and does not raise her hand against an innocent person, she will not fall sick to disease, and her mind will reject all psychic attempts to manipulate her into sinning, breaking promises or her vows, or harming the innocent. Her blood and tears similarly are holy, and are very useful for mystics of many stripes. Finally, any object owned by Jeanne D'arc is rightfully hers, such as her battle standards and sword. If reclaimed, she can wield them instinctually, though she may not immediately know them for what they are.

Stubborn:
Jeanne, when convinced of something or taking up a purpose she considers worthy, is stubborn to a fault. She refuses to budge, and no amount of arguing, threats, or logic will make her change her mind.

Superhuman Abilities:

Jeanne, as a mutant, has several abilities far beyond the human norm. She is strong enough to easily lift and toss a car, durable enough to survive being hit by a semi, and is acrobatic and agile beyond even olympic gymnasts.

Athletics:
An extremely skilled athlete even beyond her mutant abilities, Jeanne is a highly skilled endurance runner, gymnast, and pole vaulter. She also is skilled in flag corp.

Melee:
Jeanne is an extremely skilled spear, pole, and sword user. She prefers the use of the former two, and can be considered beyond olympian level in their use.

Scripture:
Thanks to her fellow nuns and many kind priests, Jeanne is an expert in scripture. She has memorized the bible in it's entirety through having it read to her, and has a nearly supernatural talent in debating religion in general. Also to a lesser degree, she is familiar with judaism, islam, as well as several eastern religions such as hindu and buddhism, enough to hold a healthy debate on them.

Traveler:

An adept traveler due to her occupation, Jeanne knows the inns and outs of moving across the world. She has several passports to multiple countries.

Armor of Light:
Extremely durable, heavy armor created using Blessed Light. This armor can withstand multiple superhuman strikes before being damaged. Jeanne can summon it at will.

Battle Standard:
Jeanne possesses her predecessor's battle standard. So long as it's wielded with faith, the Standard is completely indestructible, will not rust or burn or decay. When held upright, and channeling her Blessed Light, anyone that she chooses within twenty feet of her gain protection from unholy curses and magic, and armor the same strength as her Blessed Light shields. Demons and other unholy creatures find it difficult to even look upon the standard, and it's touch to be even more painful and destructive as her Blessed Light. Jeanne has not yet unlocked the full abilities of the Standard, and only by mastering her faith and mutant power can she unlock them.

Catholic Church:

A practicing nun, Jeanne can count on the Church for minor traveling money, as well as a place to stay while she carries out her duties.

Curse of the Past:
Jeanne is cursed by her previous life, and the legacy she bears. Nightmares and visions of her own death, demons and the unholy wanting her dead for the danger she possesses, and the possibility of being targeted for possessing the Standard, her past is a great physical, spiritual, and mental danger to her.

Faith:
Faith is everything to Jeanne. Should she descend into too many doubts about her faith and higher powers, she will lose access to all of her abilities until that faith is restored.

Heavy:
Jeanne's armor is very heavy, and though agile, she is very slow to move. Very much a defensive fighter, this suits her fine, but she won't be winning any sprinting contests or other things that require speed. She also has a tedency to crash through thin rooftops accidentally. Woops.

Illiterate:
Jeanne is illiterate. Despite her best efforts, she is incapable of learning how to functionally read, and thus has to rely on the kindness of strangers and the help of others when she needs to know the written word. This also severely hampers her in scholastic achievement, despite being a reasonably intelligent girl.

Naieve:
Jeanne is a naieve young woman. Thinking the best in others, it's easy to trick, cajole, confuse, and take advantage of her innocent ways. This is one reason why she is often penniless, and often has her possessesions stolen during trips abroad.

Superhero:
As the Maiden of Light, she's sent more than one criminal to jail. Gangs, villains, and those of unholy stripes hold a grudge or hatred of her for her actions.

Vows:

Jeanne has taken several vows. She follows chastity, temperance, and poverty as much as she is able. Thus, she rarely has much money, and drinks only in small amounts. She is, one must say, easily effected by alcohol.
