Profile

The Rubber-Faced Redeemer, the Man of Stretchy, The Clown Prince of Crimefighting, Plastic Man started out as a thief and a scoundrel until a rather unlikely and frankly unbelievable accident lead to his body being transformed into something sentient and artificial and endlessly malleable. He got recruited to make up for his crimes by becoming a crimefighter. Turns out he's pretty good at it! He's been baffling and bothering bad guys since the 1950s.

Description:

He's Personable! He's Pliable! He's Punctual! He's Plastic Man!

He never really looks the same way twice -- it's just not his way -- but Plastic Man's got one form that he tends to return to more often than not, sortakindamaybemostofthetimeanyway. It's his more or less natural form, heavy on the less, light on the natural. A tall, lanky man with black hair cut short and styled with the utmost of vintage "old school" in mind. A pair of black goggles with white rims hide his eyes, and his chin is huge, featuring a dimple that could (and probably would) swallow lesser chins. His neck is long(er), his Adam's Apple prominently displayed for all to marvel at.

While he is, in general, a lean and lanky sort, his chest is bulked up a great deal more exaggerated into something akin to likes of muscular superheroes fighting for justice and puppies and the adoration of millions. He wears a red unitard that covers his arms, trimmed with yellow and cut low in front, exposing a great deal of pink-ish flesh criss-crossed by black bands holding the outfit in place. His legs and feet are bare. His skin has a shiny, almost plastic visual quality to it.

Oh crap, he's changing form again already! That's Plastic Man!

History

History:

Patrick O'Brian was born right in the heart of Chicago, Illinois. Way too many years ago to really even mention, but there it is. He was raised by an abusive father until Patrick couldn't take it anymore and bailed to the streets. Patrick became engrossed with the gangs in the area and was able to weasel his way into The Jets, which was the local gang of his neighborhood. By proving that he was a slippery little devil, Patrick was dubbed "Eel" by the gang. Eel believed that he had found the family he didn't know he was looking for. Crawford Chemical Works became a target for the gang's antics one night. Eel led his gang inside for a big payoff, but tragedy struck his somewhat solid and predictable world. His gang turned on him, wanting the take for themselves. They beat him up, shot him and kicked him into a large vat of chemicals and left him for dead.

Fortunately, Eel didn't die. He woke up on a strange bed in a monastery, watched over by the lone monk. Clad in a red leotard, Eel found out that he had been found and nursed back to health by the monk. It was about this time that Eel decided he should turn over a new leaf. It was about this time that Eel realized he was no longer normal. In attempting to pull himself out of his leotard, he saw that his skin stretched. In fact, his whole body had become something more than human. His genetic make up had been altered by the chemicals he soaked in, evolving him into the stretchy superhero: Plastic Man!

With his newfound outlook on life, and special abilities, Eel hit the streets of Chicago in search of those traitorous gangsters. After a small battle (they didn't have a chance), Eel gift wrapped the punks and dropped them off right on the Police Department's doorstep, with a note and everything: "Best Wishes, Plastic Man." From that moment forth, Patrick O'Brian has been the Pliable Paladin, fighting crime the best way he knows how. By Bringing Stretchy Back.

Personality

Personality:

Patrick's become something completely different since his transformation into Plastic Man. The transformation seems to have obliterated his mind as well as reshaped his body for stretchy shenanigans. Most often described as "eccentric" by those that are feeling charitable, Plas is very often considered to be downright crazy. His mind seems to stretch far beyond the limits that most people impose on themselves. This is proven by the way Plas speaks without considering the option of thinking. Is mind is, essentially, directly connected to his mouth. He won't stop his mile-a-minute chatterboxing unless he's forced to deal with something very serious... like, for instance, an angry Batman.

Plastic Man's chattering, devil-doesn't-care attitude often rubs others the wrong way. Despite this fact, Plastic Man has seen some of the worst horrors that the world has to offer. Through the darkness, though, Plas continues to lean on his sense of humor. Perhaps the strongest thing about him is his faith. Plas wholeheartedly believes that simply doing the right thing will make any problem work out. Plastic Man works hard to make up for his sins of the past and to fully reform himself. Plastic Man's dedication to being a hero is beyond question.

Abilities

Newton Who?:

Plas's entire body has become a non newtonian fluid courtesy of a gunshot wound and a vat of chemicals. Bonus points for having complete control over it. Every cell, and every molecule. This enables him some very interesting abilities. As follows.:

Plasticity: Plastic Man is capable of stretching his entire body, hair included, to beyond superhuman lengths and sizes. The limitations of his stretchiness are unknown. His incredible control over his molecular structure and the elasticity of his body makes him incredibly formidable in this area and one of the more well-versed beings of this type.

Size Alteration: Using his Plasticity, Plastic Man can alter his size in both of the usual directions. He can increase or decrease his height, weight, mass, volume and pretty much every other unit of measure that can be used to keep up with him, with ease and skill. He has shrunk down to the size of a fly or has grown to the size of a skyscraper. This requires very little effort on his part.

Shapeshifting: Plastic Man can alter his shape and physical constitution with virtually no limit on what he can shape shift himself into. He could be anything at any time anywhere and just as quickly be something else, some other time, somewhere else. This is one of the key elements of his ability that he uses on a constant basis.

Superhuman Agility: Plastic Man's malleability allows him to be extensively more dexterous and flexible than mortals and even some superhumans. It is largely due to the fluidity of his body, which allows him and ease of movement that others do not have.

Superhuman Strength: Plastic Man can augment his own strength by increasing his mass or adding musculature to himself. He can also do this by expanding and creating various states of velocity to pack more than just a simple punch. Think of a rock in a slingshot.

Invulnerability: Plas's body is incredibly resilient. Mostly being that it's extremely tough to actually put him in a position to cause harm. Bullet's cannot puncture his flesh, as he simply stretches with it. Blunt instruments are even less effective. However sonic weaponry, especially ultrasonics are effective at stuffing the stretchy superhero.

Regeneration: It is possible for Plastic Man to regenerate lost mass, as his body is no longer simply muscles and bones. His regeneration abilities are so powerful in fact that he survived being literally shredded and scattered across the Atlantic seafloor for 3000 years before reassembling thanks to help from Batman and Firestorm. There's not much Plas can't endure

Telepathic Immunity: It has been stated by a reliable source that Plastic Man's mind is no longer organic, thus rendering it untouchable by telepathy. In fact, all of his internal organs have suffered the same rubbery fate as his brain. Allowing him to shift thier positions as easily as you or I move your tongue in your mouth.

Immortality & Immunities: Since becoming the Pliable Paladin, Plastic Man does not age. Nor does he actually need to eat or breathe or sweat to regulate his temperature or any other functions of the normal human body. He can exist in hostile environments, indefinitely, without the need for the usual life survival tactics.

Ultrasonic Detection: Involuntarily, because of the nature of his body's makup, Plastic Man's body ripples when there's an ultrasonic frequency at work in his immediate vicinity.

Skills

Acrobat:
Being able to contort and change himself into any shape is infinitely helpful in Plastic Man's war on crime. But that's the easy part. Being able to live and work and move with this pliable body has taken some gotten used to and now Plastic Man is the master of his stretchy domain. He can twist and duck and stretch and dodge just like any master of their body. He just tends to do it on a much more exaggerated and rubbery state. He can even run, jump, and flip. When you're in complete control of your entire molecular structure, you tend to be highly skilled with using your body.

Actor:
He's a very talented and gifted actor and he never really gets to show off his talent in this area. Unless, of course, it's in a humorous capacity. Honestly, though, if he were to take his expertise seriously, he could be one of the greatest actors of all time. However, the fact that he's just too damn stuck on being funny is enough to take himself seriously. More in tune with his current profession, this acting ability extends his disguise ability to new heights, as it makes him capable of pretending to be whomever he's disguised and doing it nigh-perfectly. This even extends to "acting" like inanimate objects.

Dhalsim Who?:
When it comes to throwing down with the man of plastic, there's a few things one should really take into consideration. First of all, he's not an average fighter... at all. Having spent some yearswith the JLA before his exile in time, has given him the training and martial arts ability of a highly trained fighter. A number of master combatants trained him. The fact that Patrick O'Brian is now Plastic Man is a major advantage. With impressive experience with his powers under his belt, he's one of the most dangerous stretchy heroes to ever grace the streets. He's capable of pulling off any number of combat maneuvers and using his abilities to his advantage when dealing with the general criminal element. Super villains are another story, but nine times out of ten, Plastic Man can hold his own against them also.

Master of Disguise:
Plastic Man can be anyone or anything at any given time. While his only drawback to this is the fact that he will always be red, black, and yellow... He's very much capable of shape shifting into people, either using his own imagination and knowledge to create characters to "play" in his world of good vs evil. Or he can use his memory to pull up the look of someone he's met in the past, thus able to shift himself into an exact duplicate of them... minus the color scheme. Plastic Man is the ultimate master of disguise and it's very hard to tell the difference between the real and the fake when he's the fake. Not only is he capable of shifting into sentient beings, he's also capable of taking on the shape of anything inanimate that he can think of. Whether it be a bat, basketball, chair, ceiling fan... anything! If he can dream it, it will come.

New Leaf:
Pat's former career as a criminal is not forgotten. During his run as a slippery little criminal back in the day, he used his natural talents to get in and out of any place that he wanted to, with impressive ease. Safe cracking, and sleight of hand techniques have all been repurposed to fighting crime instead of committing them. Welll.. the safecracking not so much. But one day!!

Plasportation:
Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No... it's... Plastic Man?! Yes, the amazing Plastic Man is very much capable of steering himself in all of the vehicular forms that he creates. Three of his most common uses would be the Plastiboat, Plastiplane and the illustrious Plasticar. While in these forms (and others) Plastic Man is capable of expertly steering himself through any sort of problems. Whether they be traffic jams, bad weather, or just bad drivers in the case of land travel. Simply put, Plastic Man is an expert at maneuvering himself and sometimes the best ride to take? Is a Plastic one. FAA Approved.

Plastic Man can self-propel himself up to about a 100 mph. However, with assistance from super powered individuals or explosives (for Rocket Shaped Plastic Man) or other outside sources he can reach higher levels of speed.

Streetwise:

After being a criminal for the majority of his first life, Plastic Man has learned the nature of the streets. All cities are the same in this regard, as there's always the dangerous parts and there's always those few people who have paths that are not supposed to be crossed and all sorts of other things. It only takes Plastic Man a couple of weeks to identify the "streets" of whatever city he's decided to bless with his presence at the moment. Certain people would be very dismayed at who their drinking buddy really is.

Eww Investigations:
This is the name of the private detective agency that Eel and Woozy started together. The new name, anyway. While the agency has been around for a couple of years now, it's moved around from city to city along with Plastic Man. The company has a strict policy on the cases that they handle, as Woozy and Eel feel that they'll be doing more good if they work on cracking cases that even the police have given up on. They work because it's the right thing to do and to help people, not to make a profit.

For a Good Time Call:
Plastic Man comes standard with a very specific sense of comedic timing that can be considered "not the right time". Plas can always be counted on to make light of any situation, no matter how dire, with humor and more often than not, inappropriate humor. His antics can be annoying and childish to some, but to his enemies and foes, it's a wonder that their brains even last long enough to fight the Waxwork Wacko.

Help!:

Plastic Man has been around for a long time, both as a superhero, and a criminal. Through this time he has managed to collect a few people that will help him out on occasion. They may be friends, they may be associates, they may just be people he runs into on his daily shapeshifting basis. Either way, sometimes even he needs help.

Weaknesses

Chemical Pitfalls:
Plastic Man's body reacts badly to certain strong solvents like acetone. His body starts coming apart, and he can lose shape rather quickly. Once the chemicals are removed he will regenerate, but not before.

Color Schemeless:
Plas's abilities while highly versitile, has a single glaring weakness. He cannot change colors. Stuck with red, black, yellow, and flesh tones.. He can mimic anything but for people looking for that color combination.. it's a dead giveaway.

Dirty Past:
The Eel's got a criminal record. It's there and it's not going away. While he's now a fighter of the good fight and no longer a petty thief from the streets of Chicago, there's not a night that goes by that Eel doesn't think about what he did back in those days. His dreams and his conscience are both haunted daily by his past crimes and he continuously tries to repent for those sins committed... even though it was so long ago that most of his acquaintances have even forgiven him.

Family:
Plastic Man has a son. Having children brings it's own set of challenges, especially when you're too busy out and about with the superheroing and detective work to actually be a good father. Not only that, but just the existence of a son that Plas cares about is bad enough news to make him a liability. Despite the baby mama drama, he also cares about his son's mother too. Which also makes her a liability.

Insane:
Plastic Man is a clown. Super-clown certainly.. but a clown nonetheless. There's no getting around this. This tends to be a problem when it comes to doing battle the bad guys. While Plastic Man is very capable of doing battle in a serious manner, he refuses. He'd much rather shift his shape into something silly or amusing than straight up brawl.

He's got a thing, almost an obsession, for comedy as it's both a useful tool and his defense mechanism. Being that as it may, criminals will usually look at Plastic Man's antics and fight him harder and longer than they would other heroes, simply because they think he's a joke.

Just Right:
Plastic Man seems to be able to keep his semi-liquid form intact through incredible temperature changes. Except for when they happen suddenly. Gradual changes in temperature can be handled with ease. Sudden changes in temperature create a change in Plastic Man's physical phase, such as freezing him and shattering his body. Extreme heat is also a huge problem as it can cause him to melt.

Pal:

There's a problem with having a best friend that literally is a trouble magnet. Poor Woozy somehow always manages to find himself in the worst predicaments possible and Plastic Man's the guy that's decided to spend his days and nights getting Woozy out of trouble and back to safety.
