Profile

Trini Kwan has never been able to accept or understand herself. A gloomy girl raised in a traditional household that can't and won't understand her, she's never had much in the way of friends, and has kept herself from a social life, instead pushing herself towards whatever pursuits she decided to dedicate herself to, including her studies, environmentalism work, and martial arts. Her days as a constant loner ended when she and several other teenagers found the ancient Power Coins, giving her the power of the Sabretooth Tiger, becoming the Yellow Ranger of the Power Rangers. With this powerful new identity comes more questions, as well as the chance for her to break out of her funk and find herself and find friends, whether among her fellow Rangers, or among the heroes (or even villains) she'll meet out there in the world.

Description

Trini Kwan is a young woman of Asian descent, with brown hair that falls down to chest-length and striking dark brown eyes. She stands at a mundane height of 5 ft 4 inches, but her slouch makes her seem an inch or two shorter. Her build is lean but physically fit, almost wiry, as if she was built for agility. Trini comes off as moody on first glance, with a near-perpetual frown on her face and a lack of much eye contact.

Trini tends to dress in loose, comfortable clothes, often colorful or quirky, such as t-shirts with weird prints or hoodies that look like they've been worn by a graffiti artist. Alternatively, she also wears more 'tomboyish' clothes, like buttoned-up shirts and jeans with a brimmed hat. While rare, she occasionally does wear more feminine clothes, such as skirts, but this is far from the usual. Trini tends to wear different hats rather frequently, with her favorite being a black and yellow beanie, followed by a beige fedora with a white trim.

As the Yellow Ranger, Trini wears a yellow bodysuit, covering her entire frame, which has armor woven into it and appears flexible, yet protective. White accentuates it, with a pair of white boots and white gloves, as well as a white collar around her neck and several white diamonds on the chest. The most noticable piece of the suit is the shining helmet, shaped like the face of a sabretooth tiger. Two fangs jut down over a reflective black visor, as if a 'mouth', and underneath lies a silver faceplate, molded around the mouth area. The Yellow Ranger suit has a belt around the waist with an odd buckle containing a medallion in the center, and a holster for a firearm to the side, as well as a notch on either end to store a dagger.

History

Trini Kwan was born the only daughter of Frank Kwan, a third-generation Chinese chef, and his wife Iseul, a real-estate manager and Korean immigrant, in Toronto, Canada.. The eldest of three siblings, with two younger brothers named Frank and Jun, Trini was always expected by her parents to be excellent and do great things, bring them great pride. And her name, short for Trinity, proved to be accurate. From a young age, she excelled in her academics, showed great athletic capability and martial arts progress (her uncle Howard being a master), and showed an interest in things like activism, especially for the environment. As what was thought to be an exceptional child, people put their expectations in her. Her parents, her teachers, her tutors.

But the pressure got to her. Trini never pursued her interests because she was too busy pushing herself in her studies and training, and had little friends, which wasn't helped by her mother's job leaving them to move frequently to new properties in different towns. Trini never had long-lasting friends, and as she got older, the expectations on her were increased. She was to do better than she did before. She was to be that perfect daughter, that perfect older sibling, that perfect student, and any failure was met with disappointment. Disappointment that cut through Trini like a knife, and that made her even more frustrated with her situation.

It all culminated right around when the Kwans moved to Angel Grove. Trini's grades slipped after a tight week and schedule where she overworked herself, and her mother scolded her, disappointed in her daughter's failure. For the first time in her life, Trini snapped back. She shouted at her mother, vented her anger, how she felt like she had no control over her own life, and for once, let herself free. She was grounded for this, and that in turn sparked a realization in Trini. 'I did this, and I want to do it again. I felt free.'

It started with simply not listening to her parents like she used to. As they got more and more angry, so did she, and fighting became frequent. Then, she would skip martial arts training, to the disappointment of her uncle. She'd skip classes she didn't feel like attending, which put her in detention. While her frequent fighting with her parents eventually levelled out, they instead became distant. Trini, in turn, distanced herself from most people. She didn't want to connect, didn't feel like anyone would actually see her for her, when she didn't either. Her peers therefore saw her as a distant, moody girl, and pushed herself away from them.

Trini's interests didn't actually go away, though. She was still smart, and still studied, so her grades picked back up even if she was going to detention occasionally. She kept up on her martial arts training, and she'd take hikes at the abandoned quarry near her house, letting her mind wander and explore itself. It was during one of these hikes that her life changed forever. She and four teenagers stumbled upon a massive rock in the quarry, and found five Power Coins, giving them incredible powers, as well as turning them into Power Rangers. While Trini initially didn't have any interest in this, feeling like she was being forced into something once again, she grew to accept her role as a hero, and as the Yellow Power Ranger, helped stop destruction by the hands of aliens.

Now, Trini has taken to being a Power Ranger as the one thing that she feels really is her. She patrols, she fights villains, and she avoids her actual life in return for this escape, her moody demeanor not having gone away. Only time will tell if someone will help her out.

Personality

Trini Kwan does not feel that she understands herself. She struggles with her identity, of who 'Trini Kwan' really is, of what her purpose in life is and what she's supposed to be doing. She's constantly searching for answers, constantly experimenting to figure out 'who is Trini Kwan', struggling with what should in her mind be a simple question that she just can't wrap her head around. Trini wants to figure herself out, but until she does, she feels she cannot trust herself, trust that what she is 'is really her', leading to self-doubt issues (are her decisions really right? Is she really confident in them? Does she really have any say in anything?). Finding someone who might be able to 'answer these questions' could change her life, for the better or the worse.

Trini is full of frustration and resentment, irritation at the world and how it treats her. Her parents, super traditional 'normal' people, can't understand her or even try, instead wanting her to be something she's pretty sure she's not. People have expectations of her that she can't or doesn't want to fulfill, 'you're smart so you should become a doctor', 'you're pretty good at this so you'll tutor me, yeah?', or have attitudes towards her based on who she is, 'you're a girl, you need to act like one', etcetera. This has led to her avoiding social interaction with most people, keeping quiet and to herself and not letting nearly anyone into 'her space', into the struggling teenager's mind. It also leads to quite a bit of pent-up anger, the type that comes out in battle and leads to consequences she didn't expect, like 'wounding someone more than she anticipated'.

In an effort to better herself, to 'make herself into someone', Trini has put all of her time and effort into causes, away from a social life she could otherwise have. She works silently on environmentalist work, constantly places well in all of her studies due to frequent and constant studying, and rigorously trains herself in martial arts, as well as trying to excel at new things that she's 'experimenting with' so that she can find herself, often to failure. This conviction is almost too tight, as she's cut herself off from other avenues and from interaction, instead pushing herself into whatever she's trying to figure out next. The Power Rangers have become that, as well, but in an odd way - she's convicted to the role as the Yellow Ranger, always ready to stop what she's doing and fight, even if it's something she's enjoying or wants to be doing. Balance is not a thing she's learned.

In the end, Trini can't figure out if 'Trini Kwan' is the Yellow Ranger, 'the Yellow Ranger' is Trini Kwan, or if they're two separate things that need to be kept separate, which frustrates her to the point that she may be at risk of a panic attack or breakdown if she continues on the paths she is, of refusing to moderate herself.

Trini's hobbies include music, hiking, martial arts, and skateboarding. She tends to watch older shows on television, usually reruns from the 80s, and is a fan of crime movies. She's not much of a gamer, but has several mobile games on her phone which she plays frequently.

Abilities

YELLOW RANGER POWER
Bonded to the Sabretooth Tiger Power Coin, Trini Kwan has been chosen as the Yellow Ranger, and has been bestowed with abilities beyond that of a normal human being. While she normally has this power, it can be increased substantially by becoming a Power Ranger, a protector of the Earth, through a process known as 'morphing'.

Trini's default nature increases her strength, agility, stamina, reflexes, and endurance above that of a peak human, allowing her to survive and even engage meaningfully with creatures that would otherwise be impossible for normal human beings, though incredibly powerful beings or a group of them can tire her down. She is also able to climb walls easily, though completely slick surfaces will likely have her slipping off shortly afterwards, and hang on a ceiling for a short period of time. Her strength can be channeled to put force into jumps, allowing Trini to leap across chasms or up several floors. Additionally, Trini is capable of self-regeneration, knitting broken bones back to perfect shape in a matter of hours and patching up her skin (though she can not regrow limbs or lost organs, cannot heal from fatal injuries, and some scars may remain depending on the severity of the damage).

When morphed into the Yellow Ranger, Trini's powers skyrocket to absolutely superhuman levels. She can smash through walls or leap much higher or farther, is abnormally agile and can climb sheer walls or hang to the ceiling for quite a long period of time, and she forms a solid layer of armor around her body that is incredibly resistant to damage and allows survival in low-pressure and low-oxygen areas such as space or a burning building. Her self-regeneration is slowed down to close to natural human levels to compensate for this high increase in power, and the armor can be damaged (and is not protected from mental attacks, as well as still allowing her to feel pain through kinetic feedback), though it will slowly repair itself over the course of combat.

Despite Trini's power without being morphed, morphing is the only truly sustainable course for especially dangerous opponents or long drawn-out combat, as well as the obvious result of protecting her identity. Even if she may be able to survive unmorphed, it would be tasking to solve a crisis that way.

Skills

ATHLETIC
Trini is naturally athletic, due to years of martial arts, and is built focused on stamina and agility. She can run for long distances, has a good amount of stamina even without the abilities from her Power Coin, and is decent at rock-climbing and similar skills (though reluctant due to her fear of falling).

KNOWLEDGE
A straight-A student until she stopped being such of her own volition, Trini is rather smart for her age, and can get the gist of most scientific and mathematical concepts from studying, even if the layman likely wouldn't, as well as be able to translate them to layman terms. However, Trini doesn't have the knowledge to do much with this other than to help communciate ideas broadly, though it may have use in solving puzzles or similar situations. Trini's knowledge does not apply to super-tech or alien-tech, and she cannot understand or communicate ideas that are far outside that which could be learned from studying (at a library or school or similar) without education.

MARTIAL ARTS
Trained from a young age by her uncle, a Chinese martial arts master, Trini is a skilled user of the Northern Praying Mantis style of Chinese martial arts. A style that uses defense to empower offense, a core use of it is deflecting direct strikes with one hand, and then using the other to quickly and accurately strike at a vital area, such as a pressure point or a vulnerable location such as the eyes. Speed and rapid attacking is emphasized, and use of technical strikes with the wrists, arms, elbows, and knees is often seen, as well as complex footwork. It's not a style of strength, but finesse and technique.

Additionally, Trini can use it with her Power Daggers, though it is somewhat less effective, as the style was not made to be used with weapons.

Resources

BLADE BLASTER
When morphed, Trini has access to a generic Ranger sidearm known as the Blade Blaster, which functions as a combination long dagger and a personal laser blaster. It's a decent weapon, though is most effective when used in conjunction with other Blade Blasters, and is outshined by Trini's personal Power Daggers in most situations.

COMMAND CENTER
Trini has access to the Command Center, a massive alien ship that houses the mind of the alien Zordon, as well as his assistant, the artificial robot Alpha 5. The Command Center houses a training station, a basic medical bay, a port for the Dinozords, and a powerful teleportation network that allows the Power Rangers to travel wherever they may need to go, often but not always used through their Wrist Communicators.

DINOZORD
The Sabretooth Tiger Dinozord is a giant, practically sentient robot in the shape of a sabretooth tiger, which is bonded to Trini via its Power Coin. About 4-5meters tall, it is the fastest of all of the Dinozords, capable of running at breakneck paces, and has a tail that functions as a laser-cannon. Both the Dinozord's fangs and claws are incredibly sharp and strong, adept at grappling, and the tail can be used as a blunt force weapon if necessary.

While it has some manner of primal sentience, and is capable of being called to Trini's location (to which it arrives via running), it is incapable of any intelligent communication and cannot act of its own accord. If the Sabretooth Tiger Dinozord's bond is severed from Trini while in use, it has a chance of going uncontrollably wild.

When combined with the other Dinozords as the Megazord, the Sabretooth Tiger Dinozord becomes the right leg.

Note: The Sabretooth Tiger Dinozord will only appear in scenes approved by a member of staff.

POWER COIN
Bonded to Trini after contact with it and it choosing her, the Sabretooth Tiger Power Coin is the source of Trini's supernatural abilities, and has a metaphysical connection to her that is near-impossible to sever. Dormant until bonded (bonding when it finds a warrior that suits it), the Power Coin may release energy on a scale difficult to measure, capable of generating heat to melt metal. This almost always only happens when in the presence of Power Rangers. The Power Coin is also capable of teleporting to her position if separated, but cannot bypass wards or high-tech defenses. It can also assume one of multiple forms, ranging from an ancient gold coin to what is practically a small crystalline disc.

Trini can only normally morph with the Power Coin when under extreme stress or duress. However, with the use of a belt-attached object known as the 'Power Morpher', she can transform at will by inserting the Power Coin into it. It activates by a vocal recognition ('Sabretooth Tiger!'), but this can be bypassed if absolutely necessary, at the expense of taking longer to transform. Only Trini is capable of morphing with it, but it can be stolen from her and does not possess any teleportation abilities. It cannot be removed from her when morphed, however.

While incredibly difficult and almost unimaginable, it is possible to sever Trini's bond to the Power Coin or even destroy it, which will immediately remove all of her supernatural abilities and turn her into a normal human being, as well as make her incapable of controlling her Dinozord.

POWER DAGGERS
A pair of yellow daggers, these are the personal weapon of the Yellow Ranger, and her most potent for on-foot combat. Trini can at-will coat them with energy, allowing them to perform incredibly potent slashing strikes and cut straight through steel like a knife through butter. Additionally, they are built to be easily thrown, and will return to Trini's hands with a flick of a wrist, making them suitable projectile weapons.

When combined with the other Ranger weapons, the Power Daggers form the outer barrels of the Power Blaster.

WRIST COMMUNICATOR
A watch-like device that is used as communication between the rangers, as well as with their support at the Command Center, the Wrist Communicator can be used at almost any distance and seamlessly connect as long as there is no interference. It is possible, though difficult, for other sources to get access to the frequency of the wrist communicator, and their communication with it will also benefit from this.

The other function of the Wrist Communicator is that it is tapped to the Command Center's teleportation network, allowing practically instantaneous teleportation to the Command Center at-will, as well as to any location that the Command Center can lock-on to (which includes most public locations on Earth, as well as possibly other planets, though interplanetary travel takes a delay and may require heading to the Command Center first).

Weaknesses

ANGER
Trini Kwan has quite a bit of pent-up anger and frustration, and lashes out easily. Personal attacks, anything meant to undermine her confidence or skill, or even threats to those she cares about can lead her to responding with thoughtless anger and even brutal violence, and she can be baited easily with such threats or insults into traps or other incidents that are disadvantageous to her.

HEIGHTS
Trini has an issue with high, open spaces, such as cliffs, chasms, and similar. She has difficulty fighting on or climbing cliffs and similar high objects, and the longer she's wall-climbing or higher she is during a superjump, the more uncomfortable and prone to mistakes she gets. If forced into a high location with a chance of falling, she'll be unsteady and prone to desperation, and have difficulty rationally responding. This does not apply to super enclosed locations high in the air, such as her Zord, a skyscraper, or a plane, as long as she is surrounded on all sides.

SECRET IDENTITY
The Yellow Ranger is a secret identity, and one that Trini is willing to protect no matter the cost. She will make foolish decisions to protect her identity or give others doubt about it, and if it's discovered, can (and will take to) be blackmailed, threatened, or otherwise coerced to do things she otherwise normally wouldn't. As well, having it allows strikes at her family, and forces her into a state of paranoia about when one might strike if she's aware.

SELF-IDENTITY

Trini Kwan feels that she doesn't understand herself, that she doesn't know 'who Trini Kwan is'. This has led to several issues of her own making - a tendency to avoid blind support of others/push hands away and trying to handle things herself; a separation of herself from the Yellow Ranger, using the Yellow Ranger as a carthartic method that is practically escapism and escalate beyond its role; and a need for guidance/falling into those who say that 'they know what she's going through and have answers, if she'll just listen to them', even if they're shady or untrustworthy. Trini has a high risk of going down a path of self-destruction coupled with her anger, and someone with shady desires could manipulate her teenage angst by appealing to these emotions.
