Fangs for (not) telling
Date of Scene: 31 January 2020
Location: Sunnydale, Avalon
Synopsis: Murphy, Cait and Chimp check a suspicious vampire corpse and get jumped by vamps.
Cast of Characters: Karrin Murphy, Detective Chimp, Fairchild

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Sunnydale at 11:49pm is an odd, dangerous and quiet place. A dead vampire in the midst of the road. None of Sunnydale's finest around. An abandoned cruiser and dead cops. Murph's (still) exploring Sunnydale as a whole, and she's run across this bizarre scene in the road. Outside the Big Belly Burger parking lot, too. The vampire's very much dead, with a burger wrapper shoved in his mouth. That's odd, the dead cops are, well, dead. There's little pinpricks on their necks. Doesn't take a genius to work out. But everything else is strange. The vampire's laid out on BBB wrappers. Which itself is weirdd.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp has decided to come get himself a burger while in the area. The monkey walks up towards the area, but seeing the cop cars, and the cops he frowns a bit. He will pull out a phone to call it in. He starts walking around the edge of things as he is dialing. Chimp looks over to Karrin, and nods his head once. Chimp keeps an idea on cops who deal with the strange.

Fairchild has posed:
A wrapper crinkles. Caitlin glances up at Karrin at the noise and winces apologetically. "Sorry," she mutters with an embarassed expression. "But I'm gonna start getting hangry headaches if I don't eat *something*."

Sunnydale's a fair distance from Caitlin's normal haunts, but there's always a junior high science fair in need of volunteer judges and Karrin just happened to Know Someone from church who might fit that bill.

To Cait's credit it had taken her most of a quarter hour to finally give in to her eating instincts. In a well-worn old Columbia U hoodie, ankle-high waterproof booties and tapered black jeans, she's dressed more like a grad student than anything resembling law enforcement. An ID tag dangles from her hip pocket, at least *suggesting* she's got some kind of authority.

Then again, who tells a 300lb ginger where to stand? At least she's very dutifully not tracking all over the evidence. So she's actually paying attention to the surroundings when a... monkey... in a hat... walks up.

"Ummm... Ka-- Detective, there's a, uh... monkey. Walking up," Caitlin mutters softly. Fingers wriggle to get Karrin's attention. Caitlin keeps a careful eye on Chimp as he approaches, even while she bites into her meal. *Chomp*.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph nods up...a lot, to Cait and risks neck damage, then nods to Chimp with a wave. "Okay" she says quietly, looking over to the corpse. "Something's weird here" she says and she is paying attention to Cait. See, Cait's taller than her, she can spy things Murph's too short to spot. Then again,. if Murph climbs all the way up to Cait's shoulders, she can see a /lot/ from up there. Truth.

Looking to the corpse again, Murph narrows her gaze. "So. Dead vampire on burger wrappers, dead cops. Doubt the food here's that bad" Karrin muses looking over to Chimp and then way up to Cait's face. Okay, it's only 1.5 feet but in terms of peering up....it's a lot.

Like a /lot/, really.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods and has to look up about the same 1.5 to Karrin. To the taller woman "Chimp, Detective Chimp." He will carefully walks over making sure not to step on anything important and lean in taking a sniff of the Vampire, and walking around him to see if he sees what killed it "Well interesting not one of the explody ones." He then walks over to sniff the police officers seeing if they smell of the vampire.

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin almost maneuvers to obstruct Chimp's progress. Her weight's shifting at least until Karrin identifies him in a familiar fashion. The redhead's weight settles back on her heels and she nods slightly at the ambling primate joining their little party.

"Yeah, the vampire getting the Mama Cass treatment. That's the weird part," Caitlin mumbles under her breath.

She eyes her food and then wolfs down the massive burger in four or five bites, as fast as possible without being slovenly about it. Her wrapper's carefully folded and tucked in her purse. In exchange, her hand removes a tightly folded portable drone. Rotors whirr and it lifts off from her palm; a glistening bank of cameras like the eyes of a spider scan in multiple directions simultaneously as it starts a circlular trajectory orbiting Caitlin's position.

"I don't have-- hmm." She controls the drone with a holographic keyboard projected from the bracelet on her left wrist. "Okay. Recording is going. I'll be right back," she assures Karrin. Giving Chimp another confused glance, Caitlin excuses herself to move to the drive-thru window. Patrons inside are goggling at the crime scene and she silently urges people to go back to their meals.

"Can I get some gloves from your kitchen?" she requests politely. "And some sealed utensils and a few plastic bags. Will this cover it?" A few bills are offered to the manager, who accepts the cash and scurries into the back.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph's looking over the scene too and watching it all. She's not got a forensics kit, hey, if Cait wants to sort this out, okay then. Murph can think on things. She's taken note of the obvious. Vampire's not dusted. Cop car's intact, cops are dead. Without gloves she'll contaminate things though and Cait's taller and got more reach. Karrin's not even Bloodhaven PD, but given they aren't showing up, they got this between them. Still, Murph watches Cait, if Caitlin can eat like that and not puke, Karrin's both jealous and a little sick watching it. Great. She though is taking pictures with her phone as well.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and will continue to walk around, he pulls out a magnifying glass out and looks over the wounds on the cops' neck. He will poke gently with the butt end of a pen and hmms softly. He walks over to Karrin "So, when you find this?" He asks, putting his tools away and pulling out a flask to take a long swig.

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin returns a few seconds later with the improvised utensils in hand. "It's not much," she apologizes, and offers nitrile gloves to Karrin-- then to Chimp, with a polite if tentative smile. "But it'll at least reduce contamination." She tears into the bags and utensils and offers them over as well.

Hers are donned, and she hunkers down in a squat next to the vampire. Though the creature looks more or less human, it seems she's a bit better able to process dealing with it.

"Beginning field examination," she informs the orbiting camera drone. "Detective Murphy, if you want to dictate, ROVR will record everything. He takes lab notes for me," Caitlin offers. She wriggles her fork vaguely in the direction of the orbiting drone, then sets about examining the vampire more closely to glean what information she can from it. Age, gender, size, weight-- dry and technical details, to be sure, but she certainly sounds like this isn't the first time she's had to perform a on-the-spot examination of some strange specimen of monster.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph jogs over to Cait and nods. "Yep that's a vampire. Dead by the looks of it. So, dead vampire, smells of fast food, dead cops, pinpricks on necks" she guesses looking to Chimp as if asking if the cops were drained. They were. "Okay that's odd. Vampire liking fast food. Yeah no. They like blood" she muses, shaking her head to Cait then Chimp. "Though this is Buffy's territory. Could a copycat have seen this guy and staked him?" she muses aloud, wondering if there's anything hidden under the wrappers. Nudging one with a foot, there's a thunk. yYep. Stake under there.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and says "Perhaps, there are plenty of vampire hunters or occult guys to come along. I don't recognize the burger motif, unless the hamburgler has now set out to fight the forces of the undead." He offers the two ladies the flask. Maybe someone for some reason hiding it was a vampire, till someone was up close on it?" He does look up checking out the buildings and such.

Fairchild has posed:
Catilin scrunches her nose up at the flask and shakes her head with a negative. "I don't drink," she explains, apologetically.

"Uh, lemme think," she requests, and fiddles with the airspace over her holo bracelet. Light flickers in her left eye as data streams back from her wristpiece with whatever she queried.

"I mean-- this /is/ weird," Caitlin agrees, finally. "Naturally there aren't any pictures of 'em to go off of. So-- I mean, obvious question is obvious: did the vampire kill these cops?" She gestures vaguely at the cold, pale corpses around them. "Or are we just meant to think they did? I'm kind of surprised it hasn't turned to ash, either." She uses the fork to scrape away the wrappers, looking for the stake that Murphy's toe had found.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph shakes her head too at the flask, looking to Cait, then Chimp and the burger motif. The Hamburrglar draws a snort from her. "Doubtful, doubtful. There's a lot of reasons, how would he get away though?" she asks looking concerned then to Chimp and Caitlin again. "See there's a stake, there's quite a lot here huh? Nah he's not ash. Which is weird" she grumbles, thoughts whirling as she paces around the corpse. "Something tells me we're meant to find him, but...why?" she asks, looking worried. What if...

Oh. Crap.

More vampires emerge from side streets, as Murph sighs, shaking her head. "Well then" she groans.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp sighs a bit, and looks over to the vampires, and says "You got one warning I know Drunkey Monkey and am not afraid to use it." He takes a big mouthful of his whiskey, but keeps the rather strong booze in his mouth, hand going into a pocket to get his lighter.

Fairchild has posed:
"I knew it was gonna be this kind of night," Caitlin says, mournfully. She seems more... resigned, than afraid. "I'm just glad I have spare clothes in the car."

She fiddles with the clasp at the back of her neck and extracts a battered silver icon from under her shirt. The chain looks like it's been inexpertly mended a few times, and the crucifex smashed and re-shaped by hand so many times that the details are barely distinguishable.

But it catches the light in a way that makes several over-adventurous vampires hiss and recoil. Caitlin holds the pendant out between Karrin and Detective Chimp. "Please don't lose it," she advises whomever accepts the icon. "It was a gift."

Once that's done, Caitlin starts looking around the area. Her toes scuff the asphalt to test her balance and she brings her hands up in loose fists below her collarbone. "Uh, vampires. Silver, sunlight, stakes to the heart, right?" she hazards. "Anything else that works well on them, or should I just start throwing punches?"

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Kung Fun Chimp? Murph's got 20 bullets, and....no way she's using her two colleagues as weapons. Then again. Caitlin makes a nice, tall shield to hide behind. "Right, or hide in a house, they can't come in if we don't invite them in" Murph nods. "Sunlight, garlic, silver, stakes, fire, chop off the head, stake 'em in the heart, that kinda deal" Murph adds watching them all and the vampires. They seem confused, the bloodsuckers though. "Wonder if we can throw garlic burgers at them? Maybe that's how the guy on the wrappers died?" Murph asks shaking her head, drawing her sidearm. "I got your backs, guys. We fight them together" she adds looking up to Cait, literally, then to Chimp. Cait's fully prepared to shoot the vampires. Or...hey, there's astake nearby...so....that may help out.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will wait till one of the vampires is close, and he lights his lighter and spits the whiskey in a fireball at the vampire nearby. "Pretty sure ripping their heads off will work as well. "I am tempted to pull the stake from the vamp, but with him still being here, don't want to take the chance of him getting back up.

Fairchild has posed:
"Yeah, let's leave the dead one where he's at," Caitlin agrees. "If anyone sees a holy tree sitting around, let me know and I'll... gnaw a stake out of it."

"Otherwise, I guess there's no school like old school. This is gonna be gross," she grouses.

The redhead sounds more upset about the gore than the prospect of violence-- likely because when the first vampire rushes her and tries to sink fangs into the blocking forearm she thrusts out, the creature howls in agony when the sharp canines simply break off against Caitlin's obdurate freckled flesh.

"Ow! Kinda," Caitlin protests with a yelp. She yanks her hands back, takes a beat to get her timing right, and claps her hands together on either side of the vampire's ears like she's swatting a fly between her palms.

The vampire's skull provides precisely as much resistance as a fly would. Clap. Poof. The vampire collapses in a cloud of fast-vanishing ash.

"Okay, so decapitation works," Caitlin announces to her friends-- then yelps as she's promptly swarmed by no less than six of the vampires at once, each howling in deranged rage.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph takes aim, and fires. She's not wanting to /shoot/ Cait. Instead she's shooting toward the mass of vampires swarming the six foot five girl. Then again. She's spinning on a heel, short, fierce, and dangerously lethal. Aikedo isn't her first thought on vampires, but hey, she's got her hands wrapped in garlic greased wrappers from burgers, fries and...and...thingss now as she throws the wrappers toward the vampires. Smart thinking. She's quick thinking, and gun away, lest she shoot Cait or Chimp....Murphy's resorted to aikedo, and being short and quick, too. Needs way more stakes though so she's using anything sharp to be a makeshift stake. The fireball gets a raised eyebrow. "Okay, Chimp. I know your party tricks now, belching fireballs at the vampires and Cait's doing martial arts moves. Leaves me with stabbing with sharp bits of wood" she mutters.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will keep some back with the fire, and then will call out to Karrin "Coming over and past." he will move to jump over Karrin planting a hand on her shoulder for just a moment, moving to grab one of the vampires by the head and flipping him as he tries to pull his head off.

Fairchild has posed:
They're younger vampires. Strong, stronger than a human. Strong enough to lift Caitlin off her feet and slam her into the ground on her back. They lash and tear with claws and fangs. None of them seem to realize they're doing more than scoring her skin with irritated red marks. And as many of them as they are, fighting like mindless creatures, they're not making any effort to coordinate their combat.

Caitlin's an experienced groundfighter, too, and instantly wraps her legs around one of them. The squeezing of her thighs breaks bones and tendons with a sound like so many wet chicken bones breaking. The vampire squeals and rages, then slips loose just in time to get kicked in the sternum. The blow sends him flying backwards two dozen yards and smashes him against an iron fence with enough force to make his broken body deform around it like so much play-dough.

She twists and surges to her feet, takes two steps to the side, and slips a hand underneath a parked car nearby.

"Heads up!" Caitlin shouts-- and lifts the vehicle off the ground with no more effort than one would use to chuck a haybale, and simply bats four lunging vampires aside with the half-ton of steel and plastic.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Okay, that's....one more way to off a group of vamps. Great, Murph's taking notes, and names. Hey, where's Buffy when she's /really/ needed? Probably at GSU, but hey. Cait's throwing /cars/ around. Which is scary, thugh Karrin doesn't need to be told twice to pay attention, ducking out the way of the clying car. Five feet of angry Murphy does not need to get smacked into by flying sedan, thanks....so she...

Is using Aikedo on them, for better or worse. Really, she's just distracting them so Cait and Chimp can deal with them. Ouch, parked car to the face of vampires. Car wins. Wait, wait, did Cait throw a honey badger with four wheels and an engine? That car did /not/ care in the least! Nor does Murph about what happens to vampires...

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks over to where the car is thrown, and to Karrin, he will ask "Can you shoot the gas tank, it won't blow up, but if we can get the gas out can at least get a decent fire going to chuck them into. He tosses the head aside, and is back into the fight "Hey I aint biting you no biting me"

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin tosses the car aside, pinning two vampires under it. Despite the difference in size, she fights like Karrin does-- with impeccable timing rather than simply using her obvious brute strength to just muscle through the fight. It's a tight, technical style that leaves her looking a lot like the way Wonder Woman or Lady Sif move.

Then she suplexes a charging vampire with an earsplitting *CRUNCH* that leaves a four-inch divot in the asphalt where the creature's head was pounded headfirst into the street. So maybe a *little* personal spin on it, there.

"I'm on it," Caitlin assures Chimp, and grabs the fuel tank of the wrecked vehicle. Bare fingers rip it open like so much tissue paper and she tosses it with a clattering underhand towards the last of the vampires working up their courage at the edge of their little combat zone.

"Watch out for the flash!" she warns Chimp and Karrin-- and moves to bundle both of them up under her arms so she can turn her brawny back towards the rising cloud of highly flammable vapor.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will pull out a pack of matches and yes he has a lighter and matches. He lights the matches and tosses them to the gas as it starts to pool. He steps back at the woosh of fire. He starts tossing vampires towards the fire if they are still anywhere near.

Fairchild has posed:
The gasoline vapors go up with a *THUMPF* of fire and heat, and a concussive peal that has enough force to rattle teeth and set off car alarms. A great black fireball of smoke plumes upwards, rolling towards the sky. Caitlin's physical interdiction prevents Karrin and Chimp from facing down the worst of the flash, though it singes Caitlin's back and arms and sets her shirt smoking.

Vampires burn and squeal and writhe, and most importantly die, as the fire consumes them with startling speed. The rest vanish into the urban squalor to flee the significant opposition they'd found. Caitlin rolls around on a sparse stretch of grass to ensure she's not afire, then sits up and assesses the situation.

Chimp and Karrin are checked for injuries and only then does Caitlin look herself over. Smoke-stained, singed, and covered with a thin layer of vampire ash, the torn and shredded remains of her sweater reveal a close-fitting sports top under it.

Caitlin just heaves a sigh. "Darnit. I really liked this sweater," she complains, to no one in particular.
