Cast of Characters: Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl

Cosmic Boy has posed:
Cosmic Boy, aka Rokk Krinn, was walking down the hallways. After finally being released from the Justice League Watchtower, and having the trust of the JL now, he was in a pretty good mood. Whistling an Braalian tune from his childhood, Cos heads towards the bridge to see if there was anything going on.

It had been quiet on the Legion Cruiser in recent days. Too quiet. There was this sense of forboding that seemed to permeate everything that was going on, but even Brainiac 5 couldn't explain it. It was like something was coming...or going. Who knew? After all, it was the 21st century.

THey needed to get home.

Saturn Girl has posed:
The bridge was occupied. Saturn Girl was sitting at one of the work stations there, eyes riveted on a screen. There was a frown on her face as she watched the figures.

As the door opened, she turned her head to see who had entered. Recognizing Rokk, she gave him a bright smile. "Good afternoon. You caught me trying to learn more about this time we are in. I have to say, the limited resources are...frustrating. At best."

She motioned to the screen which showed a man dressed in a tux with several roses in hand. He had a line of women in front of him and was selecting certain ones to give a single flower before moving on to another. "This is their form of entertainment and I have to say, I am surprised the species is still alive come the 31st century."

Cosmic Boy has posed:
Walking onto the bridge, Rokk smiles at Imra, one of his oldest and dearest friends, and nods. "Afternoon! Yeah, the time can be quite...hard to research. A lot happens in the span of a few decades, that's for sure." Rokk moves over to stand with Imra.

Looking up at the screen, Rokk squints slightly, and takes in the whole roses, kit and kaboodle, and frowns. "That is...concerning. I agree. What exactly are they doing? I like the outfit the male is in, but the women...strange. Is this a marriage custom? I don't recognize it, and I've studied the time."

Saturn Girl has posed:
"This is part of a trend during the decades before and after the one we are in. Reality TV. I am unsure what is supposed to be realistic about it since it seems completly contrived and poorly acted."

Imra looks at the screen. "It seems that this one is based on romance with a hope of eventual marriage. Strangers placed together while the females attempt to gain the favor of the single male." She watches as the bachelor hands out another rose to a tearful woman who is thankful she gets to stay on another week.

"Even without my telepathy, I can tell these people are false. There are a few who honestly think they can find love after a few weeks of being thrown into a fish bowl type setting with someone. I think they are all likely suffering some mental health issues."

Cosmic Boy has posed:
"Ah. Reality TV. I remember reading something about it in my research. Fascinating." Cos looks at Imra and smiles. "Got you hooked has it?" Looking back at the screen, he takes a moment to take in what was going on, even wrinkling his nose a bit. "Romance in that way seems...wrong."

Cos chokes back a laugh at Imra's description. "Right. A very astute analysis, Imra. You are probably right. A lot of people from this time have mental health issues, and this is an excellent case study." Cos's eyes go back to the screen. "I am curious though...why do you keep watching?"

Saturn Girl has posed:
"There is a phrase I have learned is used in this time. 'It's like a train wreck.' People are fascinated when confronted with tragedy, such as an accident or train wreck. They slow and stare, hoping to see that which should not be seen. I believe it is that sort of a phenomena which has me continuing to view the episodes."

Imra glances over to the side and away, a slight tinge of pink coming to her cheeks. "And I am hoping he will choose Leslie. She is by far the least vile of the contestants."

Cosmic Boy has posed:
Cos watches for a few minutes while listening to Imra's comments. Then, when she says that last, Rokk laughs, and says, "It sounds to me like you have become invested in this show. Which is what they want. I suspect, it is this "viral marketing" that I have heard mentioned. It grabs you, like a virus, and then becomes "much watch TV"."

Looking back at the screen, Cos points to the very attractive red head that was in the second row. "I think he will pick her. Red heads are notoriously naughty and fun." Cos doesn't realise what he had just said.

Saturn Girl has posed:
Imra considered. "Perhaps you are right. It may be for the best that I cease this line of research. Reality TV is simply too dangerous if it can even scramble the sensitivities of advanced species."

Which was all well and good until Rokk kept talking. He should've stopped while he was ahead.

"Oh really? And just how notorious are they?" Now she was no longer looking at the screen. Imra had her blue eyes locked on Rokk, as though he was some specimen on a petri dish in the lab she was trying to figure out. "So you would choose based on appearance alone? That's Lauren. She's one of the cruelest participants on this program. She lies and endeavors to undermine her opponents in the most underhanded ways possible. Yet, he will pick her because of her naughty and fun quotient?"

Cosmic Boy has posed:
Rokk was nodding as Imra continues. Looking at the screen, he was watching it carefully, suddenly interested in this girl named, "Lauren". The red head. Then, he tears his eyes from the screen, and looks at Imra, his smile fading when he sees her look. "Ummm."

"I think that whatever I say next will not be a good choice." Cos blinks. Stands up straight. Ignores the screen. "Lauren. That a pretty...." He stops, as he sees Imra's new look. "I see. Well. Um. Right. No, of course not." Rokk starts to back out of the room, bumping into the wall. Damn, hoping it was the door...

"Good chatting with you. If you need more help with the research, let me know." Swoosh. Backing out the door, Cos calls out, "Go red heads!" Swoosh.
