Flying lessons
Date of Scene: 04 May 2020
Location: Frontyard - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Josiah and Shannon practice flying.
Cast of Characters: Firefly (Barrows), Pixie, Nightingale

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
Josiah had worked out a time where he and Megan and Shannon can be together. He suggested flying lessons, as he still is a relative newb to the subject and now Megan is too. So he forms his energy wings and begins to fly in the air, waiting for the other two to show up. His wings are a set of Eight Wings, glowing bright white and radiating the lightforce energy. So for now he waits.

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn steps into the front yard, eager to get some pointers on how to fly properly with her new wings, which were such a far cry from her more compact fairy wings which moved in a totally different way. She seems a bit more chipper these days at least, wearing black cut offs and a lilac tshirt which is at least a bit less goth and grim.

For a moment Megan just stands and watches the angelic looking Josiah flying gracefully and effortlessly above with a soft smile.

Nightingale has posed:
It had been an interesting talk with Sam and Kurt, when Shannon expressed an interest in perhaps staying on to teach after graduation. The question of what subject remained up in the air--pun intended, oh gentle reader!--but the possibility of a flight instructor had been broached. Now, she was no expert on the subject. There were certainly those far more practiced, and with a few more years of experience under their belt. But right now, none of them were here--and Megan needed help.

But could she do it? Could she actually help the young woman who had been kind to her right from her earliest days at the school? She'd managed well enough with Gwendolyn, true, but was that just a fluke?

There was only one way to find out.

She comes out in jeans, sneaker, plain white t-shirt, and carrying her light blue helmet with its visor. A wave is offered to the two in the front yard, and she offers the helmet to Megan. "Hey you. I thought maybe you might be able to use this for the first flight or two out, till you get the hang of your new wings." She chuckles lightly, eyes twinkling with amusement, remembering their aerial race in those early days.

The appearance of Josiah's multiple wings gets a low whistle from her. "Whew. That's pretty impressive. Is that an extension of the same thing that lets you heal?"

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"Yes it is." Josiah says as he floats down and makes his wings vanish. He then merges them together to form white bat wings, then dragonfly wings, then a copy of Shannon's own wings. "The idea behind is it is as strong as steel but has no weight." He says as he looks to Shannon. "You look as lovely as ever, Miss Lance." He says with a smirk. He wore a buttoned up black shirt with black pants and dress boots. Infact MOST of Josiah's wardrobe was suits or similar garments. If your preacher looks shabby, it makes the message seem shabby.

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn peers at the helmet then back at Shannon and smiles, taking it. "Thanks, Shannon! This will help a lot I think.," she straps it on her head, strapping the chin strap all snug, "It's funny, I used to consider myself the best flyer out here, now I have to learn from scratch again...I miss my fairy wings.." she sighs a bit but tries to stay positive. she smiles and waves to Josiah as well, peering curiously at his changing wings. "Wow, so cool.."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles and dips her head to Megan. However, when she hears Josiah, her cheeks take on a glowing hue of shell pink. "You look well also, Mr. Barrows." Turning back to Megan, she grins a bit. "Try not to bust up that helmet too badly, that's the one Mr. Summers gave me for riding my Vespa, and you know how he is about safety."

Stepping back, she spreads her wings out slowly, so Megan can see how they unfurl, bit by bit. "You're still a good flyer. It's like you told me that first time we raced out here, remember that? With your fairy wings, you could get up to speed and fly a whole lot faster than me, and turn on a dime. But when it came to long-distance flying, you were at a disadvantage. Now it'll take you a bit more to get up to speed, and you might not be able to fly as fast, but with larger wings like that, it'd be easier for you to glide and save a little bit of energy in the air for longer flights."

The angel-winged teen blinks, looking a little surprised at herself. Could it be she might actually turn out to be fairly decent at this? "Have you tried simply moving your wings slowly like this, Megan? Just to work in your muscles and get used to them?"

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
Josiah forms his multiple wings and he smiles at the two of them. "Ironically, Bats are the only living mammals to have attained pure flight, not just gliding. So I do believe your wings can fly." He says as he smiles at the women. He then floats into the air and flaps his glowing wings. "Alright lets try some basic exercises." He says as he watches the two of them.

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn nods, "Ill try not to wreck it, promise!" she smiles at Josiah, "Bats are kinda spooky, but super cool too..I did try out my wings a few times. I guess the trickiest bit was getting off the ground. With my fairy wings I could hover like a helicopter, but these I have to take off at a running start, and trying to catch the air at the right angle was tricky..."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles somewhat at Megan. "Running into the wind, like you were flying a kite as a kid... yeah that's one way to get off the ground. Probably the simplest to start. Once you get some strength in your wings, it may get to the point you don't need to do that as much, if at all."

She spreads her wings to their full span, and slowly, a few times, brings them down towards the ground as if she were preparing to take off. If either of them stand close enough, they can feel the air moving around her, and perhaps her step upon the ground isn't as heavy. "How does it feel when you try moving your wings like that?"

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
Josiah smiles as he watches Shannon. He then looks to Megan and watches her. "So you ready?" He asks curiously as he lets MEgan decide when to try. He then looks to Shannon and smiles. "Ever thought about becoming a teacher?" He asks playfully.

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn nods, watching Shannon intently and does her best to emulate her movements with her own wings, aware of the wind bearing beneath them, "Yeah, they're more powerful than my fairy wings, but Kinda big and ugainly. Can you really just lift straight up without a run?"

Nightingale has posed:
"Well... maybe minimize the need for a run." Shannon grins a little sheepishly. "Ever study the way birds fly? Your wings are closer to theirs and a bat's now. But get enough strength in your wings and the muscles that move them, it'll take less space for you to take off."

Josiah gets a grin and there's that blush again! "Actually, yeah, I was thinking of staying on here after graduation, maybe being a teacher. Just talked about that with Sam and Herr Wagner a couple days ago."

Taking a few steps back to keep Megan and Josiah out of range of her wings, she extends them to their full span. With a few powerful downstrokes, and not all that many steps forward, she starts lifting into the air. A breeze swirls around Josiah and then Megan as she circles above, soaring rather than relying on the motion of her wings to keep her aloft. After a few passes, she angles her body with her feet towards the ground, shifting the motion of her wings to flap in front of her like air brakes, allowing herself to descend with some small measure of grace and at least not get hurt on landing.

"Give it a try. It's okay if you don't get it the first time. You'll nail it sooner or later."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn nods, "Right, practice practice. Got it." she does nite the blush towards Josiah and smirks a bit but says nothing. "Ooh really? That would be cool. I mean, I'd like to become an Xmen myself, not sure if I'd be a good teacher but if I did, it would have to be in music or gardening maybe, heck, maybe even history or magic.." she laughs "Although I'm still learning about magic every day.."

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
Josiah floats into the air, the multiple wings flapping as he lifts. He then looks to Megan and smiles at her. "I think you could be a great Xmen." He says as he looks to Shannon. "I dont know what to teach. I know everything about religions, but most schools dont like religion in schools." He says with a shrug. When Megan leaves he looks to Shannon and smiles. "So I been meaning to ask you out to dinner if you dont mind having dinner with a preacher?" He asks playfully.

Nightingale has posed:
Chuckling, Shannon ducks her head and nods a bit. "We could cook in, or go out somewhere. If you enjoy lasagna, I could make some. Maybe dress up a bit, make a night of it." She cants her head slightly to one side, peering over at Josiah. "If the weather allowed for it, maybe dining al fresco? It's up to you, too."

As Megan passes her helmet back and goes to practice on her own for a bit, she tucks the light blue thing under her arm. "Got to admit, that's something I hope for one day, too. I try hard to measure up to what I see from our teachers every day. A lot of them are X-men, and I've had the chance to help them not only in the field, but get to know a few of them just as an every day thing, too. And it's a sort of life I can see myself living. Have been living."

She leans a little bit in his direction, and lets out a little sigh. "It can be... a bit rough. It's something anyone who wants to be with me would have to accept." She bites her lower lip. "It'd be even better if it was a life they chose as well, but that's got to be from their own heart."

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"I am not afraid of confrontation. I know sometimes the best way to help is to use violence, but Violence is never an answer that should be accepted." Josiah says as he reaches to stroke her hair and smiles. "Maybe we should just try dating first before we commit to one another." He says softly as he watches her.

Nightingale has posed:
Nodding slowly, Shannon just smiles, her wings relaxing and almost going limp as he strokes her hair. "I like the sound of that." She blushes a bit more, and ducks her head, leaning a bit into that touch.

"I don't like confrontation either," she murmurs. "But I've been picking up some training in hand to hand with Logan, and some work with the bo staff with Mr. LeBeau, so at least I won't be defenseless."
