How do you solve a problem like Grayson
Date of Scene: 17 September 2020
Location: Batcave - Wayne Manor
Synopsis: Bruce tells Cass to keep an eye out.
Cast of Characters: Batman, Batgirl (Cain)

Batman has posed:
The timing was important. It had to be done in a moment that could seem like a normal moment, no break in routine nor procedure. Simply added to the flow of events so no heavier significance could be placed upon it. Deniability was key. Yet it came in the instant when it was just before patrol.
And it manifested subtly at first, heralded by a frown from the tall man.
"I'm altering your patrol." It's said calmly as Batman stood there in front of the great computer and its series of displays. His back was to Cassandra. His studies of the young vigilante gave him data that might be erroneous or not, but it showed that when she was not looking at someone's face it was slightly harder for her to read their body language. Slightly.
Up on the screen she'd see the patrol route overlapped with another, perhaps coincidentally. Though doubtful.
His head turned slightly to the side, "You'll need to pay attention."

Batgirl (Cain) has posed:
Cassandra was doing her once-over on her motorcycle. It was required before heading out to the city for the night. Batman demanded that it always be checked when returning from patrol, prepped for the next night. Then it was another look over before heading out, because overnight a gremlin might have snuck into the cave and undone all their work from the previous morning.

Or something like that.

She didn't have her cowl over her head yet. Cassandra glanced over at him as she heard those words, head tilting the tiniest bit in question. It was so subtle, most people wouldn't notice that small move. Yet he was skilled enough. Moreso, he knew her. The silent question.

A glance to the screen as she rose to her feet, walking over to look at the patrol route. They were never the same. Every night, a new one. Always had everything in the city covered but they were careful not to be repetitive. It kept the bad guys on their toes.

"Yes." It summed up that she understood, that she saw what he was doing. She wasn't sure the why but then again, that wasn't for her to question. It was for a good reason or Batman wouldn't be asking it.

Batman has posed:
It's then that he turns to her, perhaps feeling he owes her that much. She can see the control on his features, the mask helping hide some of it, but he's stern and calm as he tells her. "You know what I expect of my people." The words coming from him, anyone looking at the tape who didn't know them might well see it as just a standard pep talk, focusing someone on a task at hand. Though not that peppy.
"You know what we value." He turns to the side and keys the display, the route changing again subtly to overlap further once it reaches a particular area and then the focus of the digital map narrows. She can easily memorize it at a glance...
Even though on her own data display on her wrist the change isn't marked.
As if the change wasn't made at all.
    "Do you understand?"

Batgirl (Cain) has posed:
The lightbulb goes on over her head. That's the phrase she'd heard. It really made no sense to Cassandra. Why would a light bulb appear over someone's head and just turn on because they figured something out? There were a lot of those nuances that she heard, learned, but really didn't get why they existed at all. It was just silly. Like cartoons. Don't get her started.

She looked at the routes as they shifted further. Narrowed her eyes at the location that was in, thinking to the various elements that populated that particular patch of Gotham's landscape.

What they valued. What was expected. Not crossing those lines that they had drawn. One she had drawn long ago, when but a child out on the streets trying to keep herself alive. The reason she had been on those streets, having left behind the life she had been created for. To become something else. More. Better.

Her hands came up, fingers moving. <I will watch.>

Batman has posed:
"Good," Is his answer, even as he reaches down to the bat computer's main keyboard and hits two buttons one after the other to close those displays and shift the system to its nightly monitoring mode where the cameras flicker up and into life displaying what each of them see. The feed never breaks, but now it's clear on the cave's monitors.
He turns back to her and gives a nod, "Then good hunting." And as he says that he starts to step away, moving down the heavy metal gantry-way, boots and shifted weight causing the metal to clink with each step. He reaches to his belt and takes up his gloves from it, pulling them one one after another.
When he gets near the vehicle he touches a hand to the display that's settled over one of the gloves. Across the comms and in the ear of each bat will be heard his first words for he night.
    << Let's get started. >>

Batgirl (Cain) has posed:
And just like that, the meeting was done. She moved back to her bike, touching the controls on her gauntlet and looking at the route there. It was the one he had assigned last night. Not the new one. To the others, it would seem she was deviating from what was assigned. That she was defying him. Which might lead to a scene in the morning where she was questioned. But she would use her silence as she often did when these things happened. It was one of her tools, a weapon to be wielded. It helped in the field. It helped with the team.

She turned off her display and moved to finish up with the bike, doubling checking fuel and brake lines then rising to stand. Her cowl was pulled into place over her head, the stitched mask that hid all her features and made it obvious she wasn't going to be talking to the bad guys. As with all things, she used physicality. Let her fighting do the talking and let them know where they stood.

Swinging a leg over the bike, she fired it to life and put her foot on the shifter, preparing to head out and do her duty.
