That Longing Look
Date of Scene: 27 June 2021
Location: Venus (Sol, Sector 2814)
Synopsis: Relationships are...complicated.
Cast of Characters: Mon-El, Supergirl

Mon-El has posed:
Venus is definitely not a place any Terran or even most sentient species would want to go. The atmosphere is toxic, the pressure is immense, and the heat is the most intense in the entire system. Volcanoes and lightning storms are everywhere on the surface. But if you are the sort who is immune to almost every physical force the universe can throw at you, none of that really matters.

Plus, there's a lot of yellow solar radiation here. A lot more than Earth, anyway. Presently, Lar and Kara are racing there, and have both reached the outer parts of the noxious atmosphere. They're kind of neck-and-neck at this point.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers has never been to Venus but she has studied its unique atmosphere quite intently. She was always a more advanced student here on earth anyway. As she races along, she ducks and dips into cloud masses, trying to find short cuts as they near the upper atmosphere of the beautiful yet deadly planet. "Soo how often have you visited this beautiful but deadly little flower?" she grins, happy to let loose for once,

Mon-El has posed:
"Oh, I don't know, probably a handful of times." Lar replies as they race through the clouds of toxic gases. At least toxic to most things, anyway. It does feel good to cut loose, and not worry about the sonic booms that rip through the atmosphere as the two of them fly at top speed.

The surface is coming up to meet them quite quickly now, and there is a small crater where the Daxamite touches down, landing at the base of a slowly bubbling volcano.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers is glad that her costume is nigh indestructible as it would otherwise a melted tattered mess by now. She chuckles as she follows after him, although Supergirl doesn't seem to be entirely on top of her game tomorrow, a bit slower than usual, a bit less agile..She lands on the volcano a few minutes after him, panting just a bit. It's not often that she gets to push her limits like this, and the heat does feel fantastic. "Phew, this is great, I should come here more often..Even though we're like, the only living creatures on the planet!"

Mon-El has posed:
"That's the point." Lar replies, laughing. "Because wherever we go where there are other living things, we always have to be careful not to squish them, you know? But here, we don't have to worry about anything." He reaches down and picks up a boulder the size of a semi with one arm, lifting it above his head and floating a few feet into the air. "Catch!" He says with a grin, and throws it at her.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers blinks, darting back in time to catch the Boulder and smirks, "Heh, it's incredible to think that even here we have such fantastic powers..Powers that some of us take for granted." of course for herself, it's still fairly novel. Afterall, Kara was just a normal teenaged girl up,until four years ago which honestly, is nothing.

She tosses the Boulder back at him, but tosses it under hand, not wanting to knock him out with a violent hurl Afterall.

Mon-El has posed:
The rock flies back toward Lar, and he hits it with a full-intensity laser blast, breaking it to pieces before it even gets close to him. "Anywhere near a blue or yellow star." he says. "Heh, don't think I've used that at full intensity in a while..." he admits, watching it crumble and fall to the roasting hot ground.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers smirks, What, your daxamite friends don't keep your training up to par? Need to wrestle with a girl to find your full potential?" she teases as she scrambles to toss multiple rocks at him this time, "How about some tennis?"

Mon-El has posed:
"I...haven't seen any other Daxamites in a while, to be honest." Lar admits, sounding a little sad for a moment. He blasts some of the rocks to pieces with thermal vision, while batting others away.

"Maybe I do. Wait, you're not subtly disparaging your own gender are you?" he laughs. "You're just as strong as I am--we both know it."

With that, he charges at her, aiming to plow right into her and send them both tumbling down the volcanic slope.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers smirks, shaking her head, "Nah, would never consider it. Just figured I'd toy with you, see if you could take on a badder, stronger girl!"

she winks, just moments before he tackles her over the edge of the slope..Unfortunately her body chooses that precise moment to freeze up and her eyes widen as she head over heels over the edge.

Mon-El has posed:
The two of them tumble down, rolling over and over one another and cratering the ground as they went. Given they are already kind of falling, Lar doesn't notice the paralysis this time, and just laughs all the way down. It was almost like he was a child back on Daxam again, full of ignorant bliss.

They finally reach the bottom, their bodies in a heap with Lar on top of Kara. He pushes himself up, still laughing. "I dunno if 'badder' is the right word there. It doesn't quite fit you."

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers flinches a bit as she hits the ground, ni it because it hurt really, but because that sudden paralysis that overtakes her is beyond frightenning. Her eyes widen in horror, her body twitching as she gasps to breathe. It's like that horrific sleep/wake sensation where your mind is awake but your body is frozen..

She stays there a moment or two, unmoving, then suddenly gasps in fear, struggling against him. "Lar!" she gasps out, a look of fear in her eyes.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar's eyes widen as he sees Kara is actually in distress. For a horrified second, he thought maybe he'd gone too far. But he scans her internals, seeing those odd little particles and trying to determine if they're doing anything specific...

"Kara! What's happening..." He pulls her off of the ground holding onto her. She probably needs some kind of nerve stimulant but with with the Legion cruiser back in Earth orbit those are a ways off.

Supergirl has posed:
It takes a few minutes for her to stop struggling, to relax, her breath returning to normal. At least nothing new can be seen in her body, aside from the usual odd accumulation of those strange nanoparticles in her body.

"Ugh..I'm okay, just..I guess I overreacted, I'm fine now.." she smiles smiles faintly, although, clutching onto him a bit more tightly than she should. "Maybe that's enough rough play...For now?"

Mon-El has posed:
"I...I'm sorry." Lar breathes out, sounding relieved that it seems the problem has passed. For now, anyway. He strokes her back comfortingly, knowing it is scary to lose control of your own body...he himself has been there.

"Yeah, sure." He lets go of her and flops onto the ground next to her, lying on his back and staring up at the sky as a lightning storm begins to rage between the noxious clouds above them.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers draws a deep breath, comforted by his words. And actions, smiling faintly, "Thanks for being there for me, Lar..Sometimes I feel, I dunno, like I'm all alone. Like everyone is in their own little world. Like I'm too weak to fight this..Whatever it is. I just.." she sighs, shakily as she stares skywards. "Wish things would go back to normal.."

Mon-El has posed:
"You've always been there for me, Kara." Lar replies softly, frowning slightly up at the storm above. Wasn't Owen supposed to be there for her, especially now, when she needs him most? He'd thought the man to be kind, true, and loyal, but maybe something else had gotten in the way for him. Well, it was true that Terrans could never relate to her in the same way he or Kal could. Thinking of that brings back a familiar sinking feeling...he doesn't mention any of this to her, though.

He rolls over, holding himself over her again. "We -will- get this figured out. I promise. I just need to get a chance to talk to Brainy or Lyle, if they can't be here they can at least advise. I'm sure we have something on the cruiser."

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers had hit things off rather well with Owen..Although she hadn't seen a lot of him as of late. Not that she had voiced any of her concerns - To Lar or anyone else. Surely Owen was just busy with work..,Or something. Besides she didn't want him to think that she was too..Needy, or..Or, finding excuses to spend more time with Lar, even if it did bring a smile to her face.

"Yeah.." she sighs, relaxing a bit as she continues to stare skyward. At least she's relaxed a bit by now. "I know, guess I was just too impatient. But I'm sure I'll be fine.." there is perhaps the slightest hint of fear, sadness even, in her voice even so, though she does her best to hide it.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar smooths her hair over a little, running a hand through it. "We can't be sure of that until we have a solution." he says. "I'm not trying to quash your hopes, but there's nothing worse than false confidence or overconfidence."

He goes back to lying on his back, but moves closer to her, pushing up against her gently. He hears that sadness, like the way she looked earlier on the carousel at the mall. It tugs at him, he hates to see her like that. "You know, maybe we could be a secret." He can't say he hasn't entertained the idea before, this is just the first time he's said as much. "At least, until the right time. And maybe by then, if I've done everything right, they'll accept you."

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers smiles, "Yeah...I know, but..No sense in being negative right? Fake it til you make it..Is t that how the saying goes?" she chuckles, reassured by his closeness, familiarly bumping her hip against him playfully, "You know I don't like to get caught up in details.." she makes a face, "I mean, there's too much fear and sadness in the world already, you know?Im positive we'll find a way, and besides your last idea of confronting Lex seemed like a good one.."

Kara does arch a quizzical brow at him as he talks of secrets. "Secret? What do you mean..?" She frowns softly, uncertain or perhaps wary of that line of thought.

Mon-El has posed:
"Yeah, and who knows maybe he isn't guilty and maybe he'll actually help you. How's that for some optimistic, not negative thinking?" Lar says with a chuckle. "Don't ask me about Terran sayings, I'm even worse at them than you." he smirks, turning his head toward her.

He sighs at her last question. "I mean, they don't have to know we're together until the right time. Until I've already proven myself to be a good leader, and have gained their trust and respect. Then maybe I'll tell them, and maybe it won't change anything..."

He looks back to the sky. "At least we can go to places like these, where no one is looking over our shoulders."

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers smiles and nods, "I'd like to believe that there's always hope, no matter how grim things are..And soon as we finish our trip here, I'll be sure to pay him a visit."

His other statement however, catches her totally off-guard, frowning a bit, even turning away a little as she tries to recollect her thoughts. It's true, she never really..' got over' him, as much as she tried to..

"Lar..." she sighs, "I thought we decided it was for the best that we don't see each other anymore. For your safety as well as mine.." though she seems sad, recalling how much fun they had at the mall. How close they had been..

Mon-El has posed:
"I know, Kara." Lar sighs, lifting himself up a little and positioning himself over her again as he tries to gently turn her face back to meet his gaze. There it is, that sad, longing look again--as she thinks about how close they had been, and how she misses it as much as he does.

Now he just can't help himself. He lets himself down, brushing his lips gently against hers. "I just hate seeing you like that...with that longing look in your eyes. I...want you to be happy."

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers frowns, weighing a bunch of things in her mind. "But..I *am* happy..Me and Owen, we.." she doesn't even remember the last time they hung out really..Could he ever truly understand her struggles..?

She sighs, shaking her head but doesn't pull back as his lips brush against her's..For a moment savouring the touch, the bittersweet memory. "I know.." she shivers, just a bit. "I want you to be happy too.." her voice is a soft murmur as she regards him thoughtfully..

Mon-El has posed:
"I thought you were too, but now I'm not so sure. The other day at the mall, and then just now...you just...looked so alone. You even said as much." Lar says, before standing up finally. "Why would you feel alone, Kara?" he questions, staring off into the distance for a moment.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers draws a deep breath, climbing to her feet to join him, staring out into the beautiful yet deadly noxious atmosphere of Venus. This place was a little sad too, as she had heard stories that it could have been thriving with life once, before some calamity turned it to a world of sulphurous gases and noxious fumes.

"I...I suppose it's complicated. I thought we'd both be happier if we moved on..Owen seemed nice, although he kinda..Scared me with professions of love when we only just met..He's a sweet guy but lately..He hasn't returned my calls. Guess with this whole thing going on with my body I was just a little..Scared, and I didn't really know where to turn, except.."

She glances at him thoughtfully, "That time in the mall, I haven't felt that happy since we..I know I shouldn't feel that way but even so, I had fun, it was enough to forget about my worries, just for a little while."

Mon-El has posed:
"And rightly so. It's even scarier, for us. To lose control like that." Lar frowns. "Maybe he's afraid you'll accidentally hurt him, but is also afraid of upsetting you if he tells you. I wouldn't blame him if so. I mean, if I were a Terran..." he trails off, then turns back to her.

"Kara..." His hand goes to the side of her face, cupping it gently. "I am afraid of keeping secrets from people, I'll be honest. But...I would do it, for you. I want you to be happy. If Owen can give you that, then hold onto it as hard as you can. But if not, then--" he sighs. "--then I'm willing to risk it. Just say the word." He leans in and kisses her lightly, then pulls away. "Good night, Kara. I'll always love you." Then he disappears into the clouds.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers frowns, shaking her head. "I dunno, I don't wanna hurt him, but it's too soon, and the way things are going, I don't know if I already ruined things. I just..Kinda miss him, but maybe he doesn't wanna see me anymore? I dunno..Just wish.."

She sighs and shrugs, her eyes flitting closed briefly as he kisses her, pulling away too quickly as he leaves and she watches him go sadly. "Oh, Lar.." Kara reaches up to brush a tear away softly as she watches him leave, "I miss you too.," she murmurs as she watches him vanish over the horizon.
