Where the Wild Skrit Grows
Date of Scene: 17 November 2021
Location: Lucifer's Penthouse, Melville
Synopsis: Lucifer meets Skeeter, a Skrit from the Fire Plane that Sinister saved. It's the beginning of a wonder revamping of a species.
Cast of Characters: Lucifer, Sinister

Lucifer has posed:
So John's off to do what Johns do, while Nathaniel and Lucifer have made it into the lab where the Skrit grows. Lucifer is all sorts of excited, you cannot miss it. All over his face, his mannerisms, his very being is that like someone about to receive the very best Christmas present and then some. "In all my years... do you know what this means? If we can find more of those geodes, we could revive a practically extinct species from the Fire Planes..." He offers as they enter the lab and he waits for Sinister to lead him where the creature rests.

Sinister has posed:
"Well, we could do that already, you know," Sinister replies, as he leads into the lab proper. Telportation right into there might have set off a few alarms and failsafes, as he's still a bit of a paranoid individual and doesn't trust that somehow, someway, he might get Kurt Wagnered. SO, the sliding doors open up the sterile airlock and the sonic waves decontaminate both of them, before the inner lock opens and... voila.

It's part tank room and part zoological aquarium really. One large tank, one that would normally be capable of holding a quite reasonable reef display in any reputable aquarium around teh world, holds the little skrit. It's possibly quite lonely, as it's slowly flapping its tail around its hot and bubbly environment, occasionally slowing down on one of the volcanic vent pipes that simulate its food source, holding on with its spindly forelegs. The little flames occasionally gout large, as it 'vents'.

"I have the capacity to genegineer natural enough variables and gender reassignment to create a workable population."

Lucifer has posed:
"Just look at it though... it's so adorable..." Lucifer melts as he approaches the aquarium and smiles back at Nathaniel. "Might want to do that, you know? Make a few friends for it...it looks so lonely.." Stopping to crouch and just stare at the creature for a little bit, he's still all grins. "I can't believe it. Even as I see it. This is fantastic!" A blink and then he straightens. "How long did it take to grow?"

Sinister has posed:
Sinister smiles fondly at the devil being pleased in /this/ kind of way. This is new. This is seeing an ancient being warmed by a distant loss that has been reversed, by Essex hand. "What's the date today?" he cocks his head "...when I started the work, that was the couple of days where I was supremely focused and left you to your own devices. Then I gathered enough DNA by recombinant technique, resequenced and imprinted the embryo and all told, it took about a week and a half to cultivate. And that was because it took me a little while to realize it grew better when fed with volcanic gases." His smile goes a bit wonky. "You're adorable you know. It's like you're witnessing a miracle."

Lucifer has posed:
"That's amazing... and it just survives off this chemical soup you're feeding it. On the fire plane I'm sure it had something very similar. Oh this is fantastic indeed.." Lucifer finally straightens and takes a couple steps back. "I mean when you think about it, even though you did all the science and made it possible.. it is a sort of miracle wouldn't you think so? A scientific miracle. Surely one can't say that every day..." A chuckle from him then. "We'll need to keep this as secret as possible.... even when these creatures existed none knew about them...and I'm still a little suspect of letting Constantine get hold of them and test them. It's...unneccessary..."

Sinister has posed:
"Well, they seem overall, rather harmless. Like a crab, except for lava flows, eating the chemicals that fire releases and proliferating in them. I only realized I might have missed what they fed on, when I thought about other creatures that live in volcanic flumes and the like. They're ... I suppose the elemental plane version of what also exists here, only much smaller and rather less fantastic looking," Nathaniel approaches the tank, drawing up next to Lucifer and giving him a little touch on the shoulder.

"It is a miracle in science. It also behooves me to point out, that it came from the material in a geode and you yourself noted that they existed in the plane of fire originally. Which does suggest we have an interplanar rift, somewhere in the Savage lands, that allowed material from the descendents of the Skrit in the plane of fire, to somehow get through to earth. There's a rift somewhere." He pauses. "And although I tend to agree regarding Constantine testing them, as currently there's only Skeeter, here... he helped seal the rift in the lighthouse in Conneticut. I also have to wonder why we've been finding rifts. I certainly haven't been looking for them. Have you?"

Lucifer has posed:
"Well I don't go actively looking for rifts, no. Honestly, as much as it pains me to say it, that's Constantine's lot in his existance. So I suppose...well...perhaps we would need his help in order to find the one here." Lucifer hates to admit it. He's friendly with Constantine, but sometimes the man can drive him absolutely bonkers. "I also realize that, at some point, Skeeter here will have to go back to the place that he belongs to. It might even help out all the planes, and maybe that's the point. The planes are opening, rifting, because they can sense things on this side that shouldn't be here. Belongs there." He pauses, then shrugs. "It's a thought, I suppose."

Sinister has posed:
Sinister taps Lucifer gently on the shoulder. "That's supposition, my love. We don't know the full reason for rift occurrance. We should find out, however, I think. Because it could get worse. It could also get better. It might be cyclic, it might be causal. At the moment, we don't know why and we may well have to find out why-- Skrits are innocent creatures, as were the Will-o-the-whisps, they didn't seem harmful. But the beast on the other side of the rift that Constantine closed, that certainly did seem to be and I had to regrow him an arm, when he fell out of our fridge."

That said, he leans forward and just regards the Skrit. "To me, I suppose this is like finding the Caeleocanth alive and kicking. Or splashing I suppose." He pauses, considers with terse lips and a tense look on his face. "I don't much care for people in general. I find them to be stupid, panicky creatures that tend to be violent, ugly and ignorant. My designs use people, but they don't really engage them except on my terms, most of the time. I do care for the balance and proliferation of life though, how can I not, given my former profession? I find myself in the moment, pondering a thing I've pondered many times before, that is to say, whether I should help endangered species, because frankly.... I can. I keep... forstalling myself."

Lucifer has posed:
Lucifer considers a moment and shifts to shoulder bump Sinister before giving a nod. "Suppose you're right. I'm really just tossing out ideas. None the less, yes. We should find out why, and skrits are peaceful. I only hopped to the fire plane every so often because I technically could... I liked looking at it. It was...is...beautiful." Or maybe was is a good word for it. The plane for the wisps was all but... and the creature within shouldn't have been there.

He further considers Nathaniel's words as the man speaks. "People suck. We're pretty damn epic ourselves, however. And when it comes to helping species threatening extinction...well... that's between you and nature." A pause. "Though you've done well with dinos and now planar creatures. What's a species or few for Earth itself?"

Sinister has posed:
"I think then, that I might resurrect the Thylacine. That was one of the ones I always thought was a shame and that was entirely the fault of people. But then, when you never had competition before dogs which are more aggressive and devils which are much smaller, you don't adapt terribly quickly. Nature has her own balance of what wins and what loses, which I am tipping the scales of daily. But when it wasn't nature that did it, I object. Plus, it would -totally- screw with the conspiracy theorists and cryptozoologists which is always entertaining," Nathaniel smiles at that. Recreate the tasmanian wolf? Why not. They were solitary and elusive to begin with, they would probably just make things interesting. "I might do the spix's macaw, also, because they are quite lovely. But they I would keep for the privacy of my biospheres, methinks. Maybe I should do such a thing overall, save in private. Except for my desires to be impish."

Shoulder-checked though, he does after a bit, slide an arm around Lucifer's waist and draw him into his side. "Constantine has spoken about things filling the voids that used to be occupied by those that have turned eyes elsewhere. The Necro-lords, now hover around the crossroads?"

Lucifer has posed:
"You know. I think that's a great idea. Raise them in secret, for yourself, and then when you want to be impish and cheeky you'll have a hoard to release and confuse a lot of people." Lucifer offers and then chuckles. "And I can see you doing just that. With a few of the endangered species of the world." A thought. "Which I am totally only encouraging you for your own sake and in no way shape or form am doing such because I would love to see the way people react to such a thing. Nope. Uh uh."

As that arm slides around his waist and that comment is made, Lucifer shrugs. "Necro-lords? What's he on about? ....I might have to actually have a sit down with Constantine and work a few things out. I can ignore Hell all I want, but Constantine...I might need to give him and his...realm...a little more attention."

Sinister has posed:
"Of course not, nope. Nuh-/uh/." Leaning in, there's a loud smackeroo to the temple and a judicious squeeze of celestial self. Nathaniel nods though, regarding Lucifer's observation.

"It might be an idea. Having yours and his ducks lined up shows where the ducks actually are and whether you have a rogue coot in the mix. Or even a loon." And that said, he looks back to the Skrit.

"I'll engineer a couple of others. I'll start with five, just as a random prime number that seems currently do-able. But you had other plans in place after the Hellblazer scurried off to get his stomach filled. I intend to hold you to that. The skrits aren't going anywhere, I promise." With a jerk of his chin, Sin carefully haaaaaaauls his lover away from small elemental adoration, for the sake of what else was hinted at.

And later? Who knows. They may brainstorm a while, regarding how to find and isolate their mysteries.
