Dream talking
Date of Scene: 24 June 2023
Location: Molly's Room
Synopsis: Molly has a dream and gets a visit from Mouse in the process.
Cast of Characters: Harry Dresden, Molly Carpenter

Harry Dresden has posed:
Late in the night, a vision comes to light in Molly's mind. In her dreams she sees herself in a more arid climate area that she is used to in Kingston Falls. There are small homes, a farming community dotting the landscape.

In the distance, there is a herd of smallish animals and a few juveniles watching over the flock. It is night time and the would be shepherds look nervous.
Molly Carpenter has posed:
Molly Carpenter, Warden of the White Council, pulled her gray cloak around herself. And though in reality, she was no such thing, in her dream she didn't seem phased at all by heavy garment -- if anything, it seemed familiar to her. She had her long, naturally golden blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail.

She looked around the little town and strode towards the young shepherds. Would they recognize her for who she was? For /what/ she was? It didn't seem to matter to her either way. She had purpose in her stride.
Harry Dresden has posed:
In the distance, near the kids, there is the sound of barking dogs. They are a little more than warning something, rather preparing to stand off with something. Of course, the kids are instantly on edge.

The community is pretty close, presenting almost a town like atmosphere, but none the less she can see close to a dozen sets of eyes looking over the herds. By the look of them, the creatures with the eyes aren't terribly big, but they are fast and they descend on the herd of animals, attacking several. The sounds of goat cries makes it clear what the herd consists of.

For their part, the young protectors throw any projectiles they can find and make a lot of noise, but the creatures mostly ignore them, starting to drag four of the goats away, while a few seem to be drinking at the neck of two others.
Molly Carpenter has posed:
When the attack begins, Molly shifts into a trot, running after the creatures towards and towards the protectors, her robes fluttering behind her. She was already drawing in power as she goes.

And when she gets close? Fire. Lots and lots of fire.

Molly slows and touches the two tattoos on the left and right sides of her collarbone, her arms crossing in front of her as she does, and all at once a wall of flame twelve feet high erupts like a ring-shaped wave around the bulk of the goats. The flame roars threateningly, almost deafeningly, and begins to spread out towards the attacking creatures, protecting the goats on all sides.

Protection them. At least as long as the creatures were too dumb to realize it was all just an incredibly convincing illusion.
Harry Dresden has posed:
The creatures start to drag the dead goats away, the dogs making lunges at them now. However the creatures aren't afraid of the dogs and a few hold them off as the rest drag the bodies. The fire on the other hand causes them to break and run, settling for one goat that several grab.

The creatures suddenly stop again as, fire or not, in the distance against the light of one of the farms two massive, shadow bodies stand, glowing red eyes at a level making them easily nine feet tall whatever they are. The smaller creatures run away as they see the bigger ones.

Then, the red eyes move from the goats and they lock on...Molly. Gouts of flame will do that. They start to move in a lumbering, almost human like way. They never cross enough light for a clean look at them. All the kids and dogs have ran towards the houses again, leaving Molly and the two big monsters in the field with the dead goats. The creatures growls something akin to a dog or wolf, only much deeper and louder.
Molly Carpenter has posed:
Once the creatures have fled the field, the tidal waves of flame subside, leaving an unscorched field and unscorched goats behind. Warden Carpenter turned to face the rest of the creatures, already striding forward to repeat the magic she'd cast before. She shook her forearms free of her robe, but she slowed and froze in place when the creatures spotted something /else/ even more menacing and fled of their own accord.

And then it was just her and the two nine-foot-monsters. Alone.

"My name is Margaret Carpenter, Warden of the White Council of Wizards," she calls out, her voice strong and defiant in the face of the danger. She knew the tattoo on her right forearm was the foci for her most powerful veil -- that she could call it in a moment's notice if she had to, and from within it retreat or puppet any number of masterful illusions.

Why, even as a Warden of the White Council, wasn't she confident in any of her /other/ magic? She couldn't remember.

"I order you to stop and identify yourselves at once!"
Harry Dresden has posed:
Though the dogs have fled, they still bark from a distance. The two big creatures ignore them completely and continue towards Molly. Then, from beind her, another dog barks. This dog's bark fills the valley in a way that a lion's roar breaks the night. Passing her on her right side, a massive dog, Tibetan Mastiff by appearance settles between her and the two large creatures.

The dog has a deep growl that rattles her bones nearly. Around him, the air begins to light, a powerful aura around the dog as he stares down the two larger creatures without any fear. The two bigger creatures pause, heads turning from one side to the other. They seem like they might, but the dog barks again, mystical energy blasting from his body at the creatures and they finally turn and run.

The big dog watches them flee and the energy around him fades. There is a chuffing sound like a parting insult, then he starts panting like any normal dog, a little drooly. He looks back at Molly and she knows that not so bright look on the face of Mouse despite the fact he just did what he did.
Molly Carpenter has posed:
Molly froze at the new sound, the deep bark that shook her to her core, and she almost reached for her foci -- for the power to veil and vanish. Yet she didn't. She waited, going still as the big mastiff charged not /towards/ her, but past her, inserting itself in the conflict.

And just like that, the threat seemed to dissipate. The creatures were running.

"Thank you, friend."

Molly's voice sounded young for a Warden, and yet she adjusted that gray cloak back around herself again, apparently proud of it and her appearance in it. She smiled at the dog, but she made no movements towards it. Instead, she chose to watch it.
Harry Dresden has posed:
He leans against her leg and he is heavy. Finally he sits and just get her to pet him for a time.

If she looks down at his collar she will see three pieces of infomation: 1. Mouse 2. Address and 3. Harry Dresden. All things she knows perfectly well.

Slowly the dream starts to fade out and she is able to wake or settle into an easy sleep again as she desires. If she wakes she will find her hand is still sticky, damp with slobber. Another puzzle for her.
Molly Carpenter has posed:
How does one even go back to sleep with a sticky, damp hand covered in slobber?

It was nearly pitch dark in Molly's room when she began to stir, but that wet sensation between her fingers made her cringe and start to sit up, blinking sleep out of her eyes. The light switch was across the room, but her bedside lamp was right there.. if she was willing to touch it.

Sometimes it was good to be a wizard.

"Akari," she speaks, conjuring an orb that glows green light a few feet above the bed, easily bright enough for her to at least figure out what slimed her hand. Meanwhile, she's careful not to like.. touch anything with it.
