Date of Scene: 22 July 2017
Location: Legion Cruiser - Bridge
Synopsis: Lyle isn't happy. Lar is supportive.
Cast of Characters: Invisible Kid, Mon-El

Invisible Kid has posed:
Seated in the command chair, and despite the magnificent view of the Earth's night side, Lyle sits.  Morosely.  Well, maybe not all the way into morose, but he doesn't look happy.  Elbow on armrest.  Chin in hand.  Eyes half-lidded.  Breathing punctuated by periodic heavy sighing.
Abruptly, he stands up, staring upward at the darkened globe punctuated by brightly lit cities.
        And sighs heavily.

Mon-El has posed:
Mon-El walks onto the bridge again, and notes who is present.  His eyes scan the displays casually, noting what was on them.  His face has a distant expression to it, as though he was concentrating on something a long, long ways away.
"Good evening Lyle.  How are you doing tonight?"  Mon-El smiles, and stops near the command chair, looking down at his fellow Legionnaire.  "I got your message.  What do you need?"

Invisible Kid has posed:
"I need...."  And there he kind of grinds to a halt.  What Lyle really needs, he's not going to get right now.  "Grife, I need a drink, but I really can't.  I guess what I need is to make sure that either you or Laurel accompanies Querl on his... business.  There's another Brainiac, and he needs to deal with that, one way or another."
He drops heavily back into the captain's chair.  "And the timing COULDN'T SUCK MORE!" he wails, leaning his head back and closing his eyes.

Mon-El has posed:
Mon-El looks down at his friend with concern evident in his eyes.  Listening to the words that are coming out of Lyle's mouth, and his body language, Mon-El nods and says, "I understand Lyle, I truly do."  Mon pauses for a moment, and adds, "Of course Laurel and I will be there for Brainy.  We're family."  Another pause.  "Especially for another Brainiac.  That is... a serious concern."  Mon stops, and frowns.
Then, when Lyle collapses, and wails, Mon-El blinks, and says, "Why Lyle?  Why is it such bad timing?  What's going on?"

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle doesn't open his eyes.  "We have to deal with Our Little Pest."  One.  "Once that happens we have to get not just our sublight drive on line, but our main engines."  Two.  Three.  "While keeping an eye out for any more Legionnaires that might have gotten lost in time."  Four.  "And while all that's going on, jiggering Booster Gold's flight ring so that's all it is, and so Grey Luornu can get her ring back from him."  Five.  Six.  "While trying to figure out how he got Brainy's flight ring."  Seven.  "And somehow not losing my mind in the process and keeping up with my responsibilities in the lab."  Eight.  Nine.  Ten.  Eleven.  Twelve.  Thirteen.  Fourteen.
"I know why he has to go, and why either you or Laurel needs to go with him, and that that is more important than how short-handed that leaves us.  But the timing still sucks.  I'm not a level 12 intellect.  I can't keep all this in the air at the same time like he can."

Mon-El has posed:
"Ah!  I should have figured that out.  Yeah, Micro Lad.  Our little pest."  Mon-El quirks a smile, and nods.  "He will be taken care of soon enough with our allies' help."  Mon-El shakes his head.  "Yeah, I am sure there are still members of the team out there.  Good call."
Mon-El listens as Lyle ticks off one after another after another task.  "Wow, that's... a lot of stuff to take care of."  Mon looks down at Lyle, and says, "We're all here to take the load, Lyle.  You aren't alone you know."  Mon pats Lyle on his shoulder, lightly.  After all, Mon didn't want to bruise his friend with even a little too much pressure.
"You are doing fine Lyle!  Even without a level 12.  We're all a little slow compared to Brainy, but we're okay.  Don't underestimate yourself.  You are doing an amazing job.  And you will continue to do so.  You have my utmost confidence."

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle opens his eyes and looks up and smiles weakly.  "I seem to have everyone's confidence but my own.  And even I couldn't be an utter disaster in less than 24 hours."
He leans forward, elbows on knees, chin in hands.  "I used to think that the best person to put in authority was the person who wanted it least.  Until I realized that might be me."

Mon-El has posed:
Mon-El chuckles gently, so as to not offend his friend.  "S'all good Lyle.  We have your back.  You are doing fine.  I promise."  Mon smiles warmly and adds, "Well, I think you are right though!  You are probably the best person for us right now!  So chin up, suck in your gut, and charge forward."
Mon-El turns and begins to leave.  Then he turns back, looking over his shoulder, "Destiny is a funny thing.  You are in the right place at the right time, I can tell.  Just ask Nura.  If you need me, I can be here in seconds!  Now, I got to go talk to Laurel.  Be well my friend!"  With a whoosh, Mon-El was gone.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle smiles a little more relaxedly, and nods once.  "Oh, I'll give it my best.  I couldn't live with myself if I didn't.  And thank you."
And as the door closes, Lyle adds quietly, "And destiny can bite my transparent... oh, grife."  He sinks back into the captain's chair, and stares up at the darkened globe.
But sunrise is coming at the accelerated speed of orbit, and even Lyle's thoughts can't help but be brightened at least a little by that.  "Note to self," he says aloud, tapping the appropriate button on his ever-present omnicom, "quit coming up here when it's nightside."
