Cast of Characters: Rainmaker, Fairchild, Karen Page, Renee Montoya, Ghost Spider

Rainmaker has posed:
It's payday for Sarah! And, as is common whenever she actually gets paid, when that money is burning a hole in her pocket, she takes her roomies out for food. Pizza, in this case, because it's just her and Caitlin at the moment with Roxy off doing who knows what. Probably trouble. And it's TWo for Tuesday, so perfect for getting for leftovers tomorrow! Reheating, extra meal. Pefect. Sarah hmms. "So, what are we trying this time now?" she says, as it's Caitlin's turn to pick the toppings.

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin Fairchild had been wrapt up in her phone, fingers dancing over the surface of the screen, a little oblivious when Sarah gets her attention again. The redhead jerks her head up and clears the cobwebs, "Um...I don't know, you haven't been terribly fond of my interest in experimentation. Anchovies did not work out. I have heard good th ings about garlic, but I fear too much might be an overly intense experience," she says. "I will defer to your better judgment. But no olives. I just don't like olives."

Karen Page has posed:
It was a long week.. hell, it had been a long several weeks, what with the broken pipes, the ruined files, the invasion, the aftermath.. and that incident outside the city lines. Normally Karen would have gone to Josie's, but after the impromptu business meeting there the other night, it was safer to bring herself to a lesser frequented place where she could peruse her files in peace and not worry about prying eyes seeing what she was getting up to. After fishing in her pockets, she had just enough change for a slice, and a pathetic can of pop. And only if she stuck to straight pepperoni at that.

Satchel slung over a shoulder, she waits patiently in line behind the other two women, absently noting, "Good choice on avoiding the anchovies. Fish and cheese?" She shudders.

Renee Montoya has posed:
Renee Montoya enters the pizza parlor, looking a bit tired, and frazzled. And, chatting on her phone, "Yeah. I'll be heading back to Gotham next week. No, I don't mind the overtime. They're paying me good. And the works not bad. Still in recovery mode, but getting out soon. Yeah. Talk to you later, love. Bye."
She stuffs her cellphone into her pocket, and exhales, shoving her hands into her jacket and looking at the menu. "Okay, Montoya. What looks good?" She asks herself, casually.
"Barbeque Chicken is always a winner. But, can they beat a Gotham Deep Dish?" She suggests to the women discussing avoiding anchovies.

Rainmaker has posed:
"Olives are the devil." Sarah agrees. "And I"m not against garlic as long as it's on a chicken alfredo pizza. Preferably with onions, so I can knock people out at twenty paces by breathing on them." The long-haired Amerindian smiles. "So, chicken alfredo for one then? What shall we do for the.." then she pauses as Page speaks. "I know, right! There should be a law.Especially for putting complete fishes with heads on anything." she says, shuddering. "Ugh." She glances over at Renee, lookign thoughful. "Sorta, it's more a double decker than real deep dish though.Like, crusth, then sort of a mix then crust on top with more cheese and such on top. More like a pizza calzone kinda?"

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin Fairchild seems almost startled to be addressed, although obviously she attracts attention. She's nearly six and a half feet tall, with bright red hair and, well, that body. She's not exactly stealthy.

"Despite being widely derided, anchovies remain a popular topping for a specific subset of the public, usually those who like items high in sodium. I like salty things myself, so I thought I might fall into that demographic. But I do not," she says, starting to straighten her glasses then remembering she doesn't need them anymore and isn't wearing any. So her hand just kind of hangs there in the air. "I've never been to Gotham, but the food must be good enough to keep people in a high-crime area, I suppose."

Renee Montoya has posed:
"Don't remind me," suggests Renee, wryly. "I'm on loan from Gotham PD, here to help New York to get back in shape after the invasion, since Gotham actually has a breather. Here for another week, or so. At least the motel isn't too bad. And, I'm tired of restaraunts. Just want something easy, simple, and familar. Though, double-decker sounds kind of interesting," she admits to Sarah and Caitlin, both.
"A couple others went over to help with Metropolis, long term." She shakes her head, somewhat. "Probably at least a month, most likely longer. I've got another week, maybe two at most. But, we're still here."

Karen Page has posed:
Caitlin's response earns an amused arch of brow. "Well, if you don't like olives on your pizza, you probably wouldn't have liked anchovies to begin with. They're not just fishy." Again she makes that shudder, and nods at Sarah. "I know, right? Who ever thought that presenting things with their heads attached was a good idea? Those dead eyes, staring. It's like a parody of some bad B-list horror movie, only worse, because you know you're supposed to eat it. Well, maybe not the eye, but you know what I mean."

A quick glance at the menu confirms she won't be having chicken on anything, let alone a deep dish slice. The added cost wouldn't just eat up her pop money, it would have meant digging in her bosses' desks as well before heading out. Though lately she was getting desperate enough, and had raided enough of her hidden loose change stashes that she might just have to go rooting in their drawers.

"I know cheese is classic here, but it's always going to be pepperoni for me as classic. Not too much salt. A bit of the savoury to cut the cheese and sauce." She grins.

Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah looks amused, then offers. "Well, it's a bit much to eat by yourself...but I was gonna get the two for sale, so I could make one a double decker if you want to try it with us? I don't mind, always nice to have some company."

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin Fairchild checks herself to not startle at the discovery that Renee is a cop. They're not really on the run at the moment, after all, they've put that behind them, or, at least, so she hopes. "I can eat an awful lot," she admits. "Pepperoni and cheese is an excellent choice. I think maybe we should do that, in fact, Sarah, it would be an excellent comfort food," she says.

Karen Page has posed:
Karen can't help finger the change in her pocket as she considers the offer. At least she's thinking she's been included in the broad swath of the two-fer. "If you're sure you don't mind?" While she's trying to sound all casual about accepting, her tummy is making very loud "feed me Seymour" noises.. There's a faint, embarrassed duck of head from the woman. "Uh.. yeah. Skipped lunch."

Renee Montoya has posed:
Renee half-smiles, "Sure," she says to Sarah and Caitlin both. She offers her hand to Sarah, then, "Renee. Renee Montoya. Pleased to meet you. I have to say, everyone here's been pretty amazing to me, so far. Very accomodating." She moves over to the small group, "You both in college?" She inquires, of the younger girls, Sarah and Caitlin.

Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah takes the hand, shaking it firmly, then offers her hand to Karen. "I'm Sarah, this is Caitlin..." she says cheerfuly. "Okay. Pepperoni and a double decker supreme...no olives." She tilts her head, then shakes it slightly. "...nah. Caitlin is trying to get into one though right now. Applications and stuff. You guys chat, and grab a table? I'll go order. Um, diet cola for drinks okay?"

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin Fairchild nods, "I'm trying to find a suitable post-graduate program. I actually got my bachelor's through advanced study when I was eighteen, but my life got...complicated after graduation, so I'm trying to sort of pick up where I left off. I'm still not sure what I want to pursue, though, which is complicating matters," she says.

She nods at the cola order and goes to grab a booth, having to maneuver a bit to make sure her tall frame can fit comfortably.

Karen Page has posed:
Karen shakes Sarah's hand, her own grasp neither too weak, nor too firm. By the feel of things, she doesn't do much with her hands - no obvious callouses in any places other than the usual writer's bump, if the other cared to notice. "Karen. Karen Page. Nice to meet you." She nods to Caitlin and Renee in turn. "Not diet for me, please. That stuff will kill you."

Renee gets a wistful, "Sadly, no. Just a working girl. Secretary for a legal firm. You need a lot more money and a few more smarts than I have to go to university." She shrugs with a smile that says it's no matter, and makes her way to the table that Caitlin is claiming for them.

Renee Montoya has posed:
"Sounds like a dream job. Try holding down law and order in Gotham, sometime," Renee jests, some. She takes a seat, nodding to Caitlin. "Well. Take your time. You've a few years to decide. Don't rush it."
Still, she settles in rather comofortably. "Never too old." She half-grins, shaking her head, wistfully. "Hell. I'm learning martial arts."

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin Fairchild smiles, "Nothing wrong with working for a living. I need to get a steady job myself. I've been making ends meet by doing some freelance IT stuff and helping out a few grad students with research projects, but the pay for that is...scant," she says.

"And martial arts sound like they would be very helpful, especially if you're a police person in Gotham City, of all places," she says, making sure everyone has a place and is comfortable. "I'm torn between science and computers, the nerd's dichotomy," she says, although the Amazonian redhead looks like anything but the nerd stereotype.

Karen Page has posed:
Karen settles in at the table Caitlin has claimed, tucking her satchel in beside her. "Oh, I like my job. And I did do some college. I just don't see anything else in my future." She grins at Renee, "You should try keeping my bosses in line. It's a full time job and a half." Though if only she knew.. "I just joined a dojo myself. A friend was saying I should learn to take care of myself, so voila, I'm learning to take care of myself. So far I'm learning to breathe properly. Who'd have thought breathing was so complicated?"

Ghost Spider has posed:
*Where are U?* Gwen had texted Karen earlier.

After she got a response she headed in that direction, so it's not a surprise when a young blonde woman enters the pizza place. She's wearing a blue babydoll that reads 'DAZZLER' with a faded picture of Alison Blair screened below, a pair of faded jeans and a white hoodie with a pink liner.

"Hey, there..." she starts to say as she spies her roomie. "... oh, sorry." and she smiles at the others. "Hola." she offers. "I'm Gwen."

Renee Montoya has posed:
"If you don't breathe properly, your body won't be in harmony," agrees with Renee, mildly. "Proper breathing is the begining to proper chi," she recites, quietly, with a half smile. She nods towards Karen, "My teacher is pretty brutal. But, I'm learning."
She nods some towards Caitlin, "We all go through self-defense. But, more and more, I'm finding I'm getting into - complicated situations. It's become a necessity."

Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah saunters back over to the table with a tray and two pictures, one obviously cola, the other lemonade, with several classes that she sets down. As she sees Gwen, she pauses, then backs up to snag a glass from a neighboring table, a water glass, but should work. "Hey...you're a friend of Karen's?" she says cuirously, sliding into a seat. "What dojo are you practicing at, any particular style?" she asks Karen curiously as she settles back in her chair.

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin Fairchild greets Gwen. She resides at the apartment, too, but they haven't exactly crossed paths much, schedules being what they are.

"I have considered training of that sort, but there are...complications," she says. Notably that even a regular punch from her would turn your average sensei into a puddle. "The breathing thing is backed up by sound biology, though. Your heartrate and adrenaline flow, your nervous system, are all fundamentally tied to your breathing."

Karen Page has posed:
Karen's face lights up when Gwen arrives. She'd sent the text back to keep her housemate from worrying, never thinking the girl would come looking for her, but here she is, and as it happens, there's likely enough pizza for all and then some. "Hey, Gwen." She scooches over some to make room, and introduces Gwen to the others.

"You sound like my sensai," Karen laughs at Renee. "Do you get the smacks to your abdomen or ass when you're not standing properly, too? I mean, they don't hurt anything but my pride, but still, I'll be glad when we've all decided I know how to breathe properly and can move on."

Sarah gets a non-committal shrug. "I'm not sure what style yet. Like I said, I just joined. I think my sensai is terribly disappointed in how far I've let myself go. He compared me unfavourably to an 8 year old girl last time I went. Beth is a lot kinder, but that might not be helpful either."

Ghost Spider has posed:
"Your sensei smacks you in the ass?" Gwen asks. "I'll punch him in his stupid nose!" she says firmly. "I don't think that's appropriate, Karen." she says, concerned.

Still, there are people to meet. "Hi, nice to meet you all... or did I already say that?" Sarah gets a second look. "Don't I know... oh! That Chinese place with the buns where everyone was giving me food. Yeah." she says, looking a bit sheepish. "Sorry if I acted funny."

Renee Montoya has posed:
Renee pauses, clearing her throat. "My sensei is - a private instructor. Who would probably kill me if I said too much about her. Regardless," Renee ventures, "It's not your typical dojo. She's - hard. But fair. She doesn't tolerate mistakes. Thankfully, neither do I. I'm one of those drive myself to perfection sorts."
She looks over at Gwen, and smiles, "Hi. Welcome to the party. I suppose it's a party now. Five people is a party, isn't it?"

Rainmaker has posed:
"Definitely a party." Sarah agrees, smiling faintly as she crosses her legs, reaching over to pour herself a glass of diet cola. "I've never had a sensei. More just lots of training on my own...I keep considering trying to find a place to train at for real, but not sure if I've got the cash for it yet."

She smiles at Gwen. "Yeah...it's okay. I was trying to hard to help you out, perfectly reasonable to be a little suspicious." she admits, looking sheepish.

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin Fairchild smiles, "I'm not usually good at parties. MOre of the wallflower type, really," she says, taking a sip of her soda. "Sometimes harsh teachers are the best teachers. But it can be difficult. I had a few professors in my advanced physics program that made me grind my teeth back when I was in school," she sighs.

She kind of sticks close to Sarah, the other girl's more social and garrulous nature likely to carry her in situations with lots of new people.

Karen Page has posed:
Gwen gets a smirk. "We're not talking gropey feeley here, Gwen. Nothing untoward." She's dealt with folks who thought they could get frisky, and she wouldn't be going back if that were the case.

The fact that Sarah and Gwen have met one another prior is news, though. "Small world, isn't it? Yeah, Gwen's staying with me.." It does make her pause, though, and think about something. Karen's brow furrowing, though she doesn't actually voice her thoughts. Just a thing she tucks away for later.

Ghost Spider has posed:
"Well... alright." Gwen says dubiously. "But if he does, you let me know, honey. 'cause I WILL go toss him on his ass like I almost did to Batman." She cracks her knuckles, righteous gleam in her eye. "So, anyway... I made a friend, Karen."

Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah shrugs. "Nah, I actualy keep an eye out for people who need a hand like Gwen. Place to stay, someone to contact if they need help, that sorta thing." She mmms. "I don't have a huge amount I can do to help, but I -do- know a fair amount of people...so sometimes I can at least connect people with who they need to find?"

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin Fairchild nods, "We were even talking about that, about the need to help people in...unusual circumstances," she says, nodding to what Sarah says. "I mean, there are a lot of young people especially who end up out on their own, for a variety of reasons..." she says, trying not to say "Because they get superpowers" but not exactly sure how to disguise that.

"It's true, Sarah's good at making friends," she says. "Wow, I think I"d freak out of I met Batman, much less...toss him on his butt."

Karen Page has posed:
Karen smiles and leans over, giving Gwen an impulsive hug. "Wait.. you tossed Batman? Gwen! You did not!" Karen is caught between scandalized and giggling like a schoolgirl. "Oh my god. And my boss is worried you're some sort of creep he needs to save me from. He thinks I'm a little too softhearted." Though none of those things precludes any of the others.

Her giggles haven't died down when her gaze lights upon the other two. "I seem to be good at picking up strays. Of course, I can't fit any more into my apartment. As it is poor Gwen there is living on my couch."

Ghost Spider has posed:
"Ted, you know.. the big blonde creeper guy. That Batman." Gwen says. Still, she smiles at the hig. "I don't mind sleeping on the couch. It's not bad at all."

Rainmaker has posed:
"Well, couch is about all we have left, all three beds are taken right now." Sarah says ruefully. "I mean, they're not exactly the comfiest beds ever..but hey're big at least. Enough that Caitlin doesn't have to feel like she's in a kid's racecar bed or something. Fulham's not much, but at least it's got some room and decent furniture with the rooms.

Fairchild has posed:
Caitlin Fairchild wobbles her hand at the analogy. The bed feels a little small sometimes, but getting the California King she wanted was a bit outside the old budget.

"I like that the apartment's busy, honestly. I have a tendency to get lost in my own head. It kind of reminds me I'm a person," she says.

Karen Page has posed:
"Oh! /That/ Batman." Karen's giggles return. "I don't think he's Batman, Gwen. Or if he is, he's really lowering his standards of incognito..Woah, wait." Sarah is blinked at. "Fulham? Brick shitbox of an apartment complex whose only good quality is that it wasn't obliterated by the invasions, and even then that might have helped it?"

Ghost Spider has posed:
t"Well, I don't know yet. The stupid invasion has kept me from my cunning plan of interviewing him and finding out." Gwen says. "Still, he's got some kind of secret, with that laser robot and stuff."

Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah raises a brow. "...uh, laser robot?" she says, sounding a little disbelieving, then shaking her head, before she looks back to Karen. "Yeah, that's the place. Long stay hotel they converted, you know it?

Karen Page has posed:
Karen's grin is wide, though it carries a note of irony to it. "Know it? I have keys to one of it's former luxury suites. Enough room to swing a dead cat if he had no legs, and no tail, and you weren't swinging him. Funny we've never run into one another before." Of course the place is also known for it's turnover, and has had some less than savoury tenants in the past. It just made sense not to go knocking on doors and inviting folks over for a nightcap -- until now, that is. "Too funny. And Yeah, the guy had this apology robot. He was insane. But not bad when he stopped trying to impress everyone. We went out for pizza later and grifted some pool sharks."

Ghost Spider has posed:
"YEah, we won some money and the girls gave it to me to buy some drums, but I couldn't... not with all the people hurt and hungry and stuff." Gwen says. "So I donated it."

Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah hehs. "Small world, that's cool! We're up in 13F, you should stop by sometime, hang out. I even cook sometimes." She shrugs a bit. "Huh. Laser apology robot. That's a new one.." she admits. She smiles at Gwen more directy, her expression sunny for a moment. "...that's also cool." she admits. "I've been trying to do some volunteer work to set up supplies to get moved out there.

Karen Page has posed:
Gwen gets a light elbowing from Karen. "Yes. Yes you did donate it. Silly girl." Says she who spent a week in the Goodwill Missions, and has someone living on her couch.

"It wasn't a very good apology robot. Between Booster and the robot.." Karen just shakes her head at Sarah. "You really had to be there. And hey, 13F?" Karen points at herself. "12F!"

Ghost Spider has posed:
"WHat kind of pizza did you order?" Gwen wonders. "Oh, Karen... remind me to check on if Julliard is open again or not. I should see if my stuff is still there or not."

Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah is about to answer as the pizzas are carried over, the sweet smell of fresh pie wafting up to the group. "Okay...pause to devour pizza. All in favor? All opposed! Devouring then!" And the group spends a pleasant meal together chatting and getting to know each other a bit. Especially the newly discovered neighbors.
