Profile

Renee Montoya was born and raised in Gotham, first-generation American. When she was old enough, she went to the Gotham Police Academy, graduating at the top of her class. She was posted at the MCU (Major Crimes Unit), she she would start up a partnership that would prove to be some of the best arrest records on the force.

Eventually promoted to detective, she started to get more of a glimpse of Gotham's stranger, more dangerous, and just plain weirder side. She has struggled a bit in her career, both with drinking, and with being both a woman, a minority, AND a lesbian on the police force. Thankfully, it is a much more accepting work force then it was a decade before. Still, she's butted with a few heads, and she has no intention of backing down from who she is. At least she's good at her job.

Driving:
Renee has taken the GCPD defensive and offensive driving courses. She is as capable behind the wheel as any tenured officer who gets into Gotham's unique brand of car chases.

Hand To Hand Combat:
Renee Montoya has been trained in hand to hand combat to subdue a suspect during an arrest, including the use of a baton and defensive methods for disarming an opponent with a knife, but she's nowhere near the level of a practiced and experienced martial artist or vigilante.

Interrogation:
Good cop, bad cop, Renee Montoya is /all/ cop. Which is to say she can suppress her natural and honest reaction to criminals in order to put on a friendly face and coax out a confession, or she can play bad cop and be a real hardass. Officially, the GCPD does not consider swinging a phonebook to be a valid interrogation tactic. But Renee definitely has a phone book on her desk. For reference.

Marksmanship:

Renee is a Gotham City Police Department detective and must qualify for basic firearms competency on a regular basis. And also she's competitive and driven, and can never be sure if the next group of bank robbers is going to be toting around laser weapons, so she's practiced with a wide variety of firearms. She tries not to bet with the SWAT boys in shooting contests anymore. Poor guys were starting to look sad.

Resources

GCPD Crime Lab:

Renee can eyeball fingerprints, but DNA testing, ballistics, the whole gamut of high tech crime fighting science is beyond her ability or resources. Fortunately, as a detective she has official access to the crime lab. And also, she knows that a carton of cigarettes or a decent bottle of hooch can get the lab techs to prioritize an official case, or work an unofficial one under the table.

Alcohol:

Bourbon, brownest of the brown liquors, what's what? You want Renee to drink you? Well, it was a rough day. And one drink can't hurt.. and that poor drink is lonely, better have another and... well, may as well finish the bottle. It's all too common a story, someone who sees the worst of the city every day, who thinks they can't open up to anyone self-medicating for trauma and stress. Mostly, Renee can keep it in check, but sometimes, when things get bad, they get very bad and Renee self medicates a little too hard.
