Trying to Work for the Man...
Date of Scene: 18 November 2017
Location: New York City
Synopsis: When Cindy suggests a story and has to investigate...herself.
Cast of Characters: Silk, J. Jonah Jameson

Silk has posed:
Cindy Moon doesn't exactly stand out in a crowd- she's stupendously average in so many ways. She's dressed simply in clothing that flatters her figure, and unlike the others jostling for a chance for the paid internship at DBC, she has next to no technology on her person. In the orientation she's standing with a small pad of paper and a pencil, writing everything down in a short-hand style.

Completely Analogue, very much old-school in style.

J. Jonah Jameson has posed:
Jameson is sitting at the head of the table. Well, he was. Standing up, his unlit cigar that's been burnt down about half way sits off to one corner of his mouth. He's got his suit jacket off, on the back of his desk chair in his office, but here in the conference room he has no such desk - only a seat like everyone else. He looks around the room, and if a person can seem to be filled with hate or intensity, the two sometimes hard to interpret, then it is him. His gaze flicks quickly to each person, skimming across the room before he says, "So I'm waiting for someone to give me an idea that doesn't make me want to give up on humanity. I am waiting...for someone to give me a story that I actually want to Publish!" He puts both hands sharp, roughly smacking the table as he looks about the room, "I am waiting for a god damned story that makes me think that anyone in this room knows how to read!" It would be an insulting conversation as an intern if it were only interns in here. Instead, it's the majority of the writing and broadcast staff. "If there were any more people out there in masks that cover their faces, I'd have stock in Sephora! Viglantes. Criminals. Miscreants! With all the cameras and eyes on the streets, how has no one brought me a 'who's who' of these masked menaces!"

Silk has posed:
Cindy looks left, she looks right. Her mind was already racing, what to say- what to do. "Well, how about Silk?" she offers. Her brain already was reeling- Supid, Cindy, Stupid! "There's a lot of footage of her doing good things. She saved a baby the other day from some kind of weird crocodile-bull-animal thing." she notes, as she pulls her phone out of her pocket. Its an older style phone, nothing as fancy as anyone else around here has. She's not writing on a tablet, either-

The Video shows what some might call true heroism- a young woman wearing a bandanna-esque mask over the bottom half of her face diving through a car window as the car itself was being devoured by a monster from nightmares. Really putting herself in danger to save a toddler.

"And she does stuff like that a lot, I mean, more than that Spider-Man guy, does, and their powers are a lot the same. Maybe she's upset that Spider-Man is making people with spider powers look bad?"

J. Jonah Jameson has posed:
The whole room sort of looks over. His...rants....as you'd call them, are not typically interrupted. And so he raises his brow just a bit...."What about Silk..." he says. "Sandy brings up a good point," says Jameson, apparently not caring that he got your name wrong. "What about the...do-gooder? You don't hide your face for the good things you do, people! If Silk was only into good deeds she wouldn't hide. Superman...Wonder Woman, as much as I don't like these nearly supernatural types, they don't hide their face. You can see them. You knwo who they are. If they were right in front of you...you couldn't miss it!"

Yeah...let the irony of that sink in.

"But Spider Man...Silk...we see them and these 'good deeds' on camera but how many things happen off camera? how many things happen in the shadows, in the dark? Where are they then? Still hiding behind their masks...still not stepping up to public scrutiny and answering for their actions, right or wrong! Now I want them found...I want them outed. I want them to have to face the same truth a cop or a criminal have to face when they stand in front of a court of law."

Silk has posed:
"Cindy, Sir. Cindy Moon." Cindy corrects JJ. "My name isn't Sandy." Once more interrupting. "Silk is a new-comer to the city, though. Maybe she's afraid Spider-Man would hurt her, or her family or something?" Cindy knows Spider-Man means well, in her heart. But she's also very upset with the web-slinger for releasing evil on the world in his unthinking do-gooding.

"Anytime we've seen her, she's been putting herself in danger or saving people. MAybe she is hiding her face, Mr. Jameson, but if she's doing anything bad- no one has seen it. And no one knows what Superman does in his time off, either. Wonder Woman, yeah... but Superwoman, Superman, Super Girl. No one knows who they are except for their heroic personas."

"I mean, for all we know, Mister Jameson, one of your reporters could be Superman." Silk has no idea how right she is.

J. Jonah Jameson has posed:
"Ha!"

"I'd eat this cigar right now," he says with a smirk. "Alright folks. Sandy thinks that this Silk girl is a do-gooder. But as she said...WHEN SHE IS CAUGHT ON CAMERA she's seen doing good deeds. Isn't that always the way? But we know Superman's name - it is Superman. We know Wonder Woman's name...it is Wonder Woman."

Yes, he is amused...clearly in his own right he finds your way of thinking naive but he doesn't force that thought on anyone else. He simply continues to talk, "So then...which do you all think is more likely? That a cadre of super heroes enjoys doing good deeds, getting caught on film, and then comes to work for me? Or that by day they get caught when needed, forging a public persona so that when the cameras aren't on they can go about their own agenda, unsuspected! I know which one sells papers, that's for sure. And I know which one is likely true. So get out there, and prove it!"

Silk has posed:
Cindy frowns quietly as she's called Sandy again, this time just keeping quiet. "Cindy." she states again, "Not Sandy." she remarks.

"Alright, fine." Cindy says, as she steps back, returning her phone into her pocket. She gets back to writing on her pad and paper as JJ talks. She's quiet, now, just writing and listening as the man speaks.

J. Jonah Jameson has posed:
And so he looks about, watching everyone, getting the typical blank faces he would expect. "Alright then, don't just sit there...go get me a damned story. They're not going to type themselves," he says, and as you're about to go out too he says, "You...Cindy Star. Get over here...." okay now he -has- to be doing it on purpose. "Take a seat," he says and he sits down, himself, leaning back, moving that cigar from one corner of his mouth to the other without ever actually touching it with his hands. "What's your interest in this Silk, Satin..Lace...whatever the hell her name is?"

Silk has posed:
"Cindy Moon." Cindy states again, there isn't any annoyance in her voice- she's just correcting him once again. "She's not like Spider-Man, that's why I'm interested." she notes, "I think she's a real hero. Maybe she's just hiding her face from people like Spider-Man." Sure, throw Peter under the bus. Its not like he's not already considered a menace by JJ, though. Rationalize it, Cindy. Rationalize it!

"We already ran a story on her saving the Queensboro bridge from the Vulture." Cindy notes, "Captain Marvel was watching her work- maybe Captain Marvel is trying to train her, or something?" she argues again, all of it true- all of it supported by the evidence. And Captain Marvel is an Avenger- certified heroes!

J. Jonah Jameson has posed:
He laughs a little now, unable to help the chuckle as he says, "I like your optimism. I'll grant you taht. You get a hold of a story and boy you just cling to it," he says and he leans back, looking to you. "YOu get two minutes. Sell me. Cause that last bit doesn't do it," he says, staring at you with that intense look. He seriously seems like he's one bad day away from shooting up most of Planet Earth, that strong gaze, those unforgiving eyes. He has a confidence that is shaking to many, but it is also a passion. It's the thing that keeps him away from the maniacal.

"Yes, I know the story we ran. It's my paper, remember? And my TV show...." he says with a smirk as he says, "If Maybes were truths I'd be the Oracle, Cindy Moon. Get your facts straight. I can't write a maybe column. It's bad enough we have to write opinions. If I have to write a 'this could have been' column I'm shutting the paper down for good. Ev. Id. Ence." He punctuates the word like it's three, his pronunciation clear.

Silk has posed:
"Well, we could be leveraging the massive amount of free, public media on sites like youtube to show our evidence. Its free, and since it comes from the public, there is a certain amount of neutrality as to the source. Follow the trends, you know, and you can see who's popular as a hero and who's got a bad wrap." Cindy continues, "But ultimately, look at this." Cindy shows him the video again, followed by another- Silk, time and again throwing herself into danger. Getting the crud kicked out of her trying to save others. At least one where both she and Spider-Man are going into an area. When they come out, Silk is beaten to heck and trying to get away from Spider-Man.

"I don't think she's a bad person, Mister Jameson." Cindy states, "I think she's hiding her face for one reason: To protect her family and her friends. She's not Superman. She's not Wonder Woman- she doesn't have their strength... she can't fly. She can't take a bullet. And.." Cindy pauses- it might be a long shot- "She's a minority. She's not hiding the whole of her face, just enough to protect those close to her... from people like Spider-Man."

J. Jonah Jameson has posed:
"Stop throwing Spider Man out every time you want to get me on your side. Just because I think he's a menace doesn't mean the rest of the wrold does," he says. "And for as much of a menace as he is, he's done some good. He just needs to take and accept consequence for when he hasn't," he says. "Which brings us to your girl here. How do you know she can't take a bullet? Or that she can't fly? Because she hasn't yet? I wouldn't show my whole suite of skills off either if I were being video taped. I'd show just enough to get whatever I wanted the world to see done."

"I'll consider your story. If you get me proof. Hard facts. I don't want to hear that they have to be good in the absence of proof they've done anything bad. Get me proof they've never done wrong, never done evil. And for that, Miss Moon, you're goign to have to get me who they are. Start with her, start with one of the others, I don't really care. But get me my story...and you'll get your byline."

Silk has posed:
"Yeah, maybe the world doesn't think he's a menace, but I think he's an asshole." Cindy states matter of factly, albeit off-handedly. "Okay, fine. I'll see what I can dig up about her." she offers, as she nods over to JJ. "Thanks, Mister Jameson." she says, "I guess I'd better get to it."

Cindy stands up, taking a deep, slow breath- her brain screaming at her: 'You idiot, this was a bad idea!'
