Turn on the TV. Go online. Pick up a newspaper. We hate them. We love them. We worship them. We condemn them. Hell, maybe we're the ones who elevate them. Maybe we force them to live like this because we need them to live like this. Maybe the only reason they exist is because we can't solve our own problems.

Description:

The man you see before you is about 5'11", and about 180 pounds. He's healthy, fit, even if he looks like he's so stressed he's about one bit of bad news away from a stroke. Still though, despite the popping vein in the forehead and those intense eyes, he has the energy of a man half his age. Blue eyes gaze out over the world with skepticism, the look of a man who takes nothing at face value. Still, there is the obvious sign of fitness and training in the man's shape with broad shoulders and a still healthy tapered waist. Usually he is dressed in a set of suit pants and a button up shirt. At times a tie may be worn, and over that a vest. He has suit jackets but finding him in them is likely only done at the start or end of the day. Ever present is the look of a well chewed cigar that, the more you meet him, may lead one to think he needs to have it surgically removed from his face.

History

History:

J. Jonah Jameson was raised by his stepfather David, who was also his uncle, and his mother Betty Jameson. David was a US Army officer, a decorated war veteran, a man who many saw as a hero. However this hero was also a very abusive man and he often abused Jameson and his mother. This shaped his view of so called "heroes" early on in his life and carried over into adulthood. But Jonah was never broken by the abuse, indeed it made him stronger. He was a Boy Scout as a kid, which no doubt allowed him to escape his abusive home environment more often than merely going to school.

In high school he took up boxing and photography, the latter being his first foray into something related to journalism. He joined the photo club at his school which is where he met his future wife Joan. Not long after, three of his school's top athletes started bullying him, and Jonah ended up fighting back, beating all three of them into a pulp. This started a precedent of aggression and anger issues on his part, in no small part inspired also by his childhood abuse.

Jameson started his career in journalism as a part-time reporter for the Daily Bugle in New York City while he was still in high school. His interest in journalism continued into college, where he started a rivalry with Barney Bushkin, who was the editor of his college's newspaper. Jonah was denied entry into the campus paper's club which is what started the rivalry. This rivalry would carry into their careers as Barney would eventually become the publisher of the Daily Globe, the Bugle's rival.

Eventually Jameson purchased the Daily Bugle after it started to go under. He used a large inheritance and money he had also saved up to fund his takeover. The Bugle was and is now owned by Jameson Publications, Jonah's own company. Jameson has served as the newspaper's publisher and editor in chief, reviving the newspaper's photograph oriented tabloid format. He has taken to hiring various freelancers to work the field in order to cut the cost of hiring a fleet of salary or hourly employees. As a result his regular employees focus on the other aspects of running the business.

Joan eventually died leaving Jameson and their only child John alone. After his wife's death Jameson began to use his newspaper to support civil rights for minorities, as even though it wasn't the 50s or 60s anymore, discrimination continued to be rampant. This has caused him to create many enemies as a result, even to the point of an attempt on his life, however this has never swayed him from his cause. Most recently he has become a notorious critic and skeptic of Spider-Man, using his editorials to attack him other heroes in general, but particularly Spider-Man. Jameson does not trust him, and criticizes the fact that Spider-Man takes the law into his own hands while claiming to be a public servant, and continues to paint other heroes in a similar light, especially Batman.

The initial success of the Daily Bugle as a newspaper was unexpectedly fortunate. Jameson's columns became more and more antagonistic towards heroes, yet remained within FCC regulations. Jameson also became more zealous about getting close up photos of various superheroes, especially with their masks off. The paper began to sell more and more copies, forcing Jameson to consider a larger staff and facility. He purchased a larger building, using the millions he had already gained over the years, and he decided to renovate the place and outfit it for the new Daily Bugle Building. This allowed production to soar and print more copies. Previously the stands were often sold out, resulting in many people trying to pirate e copies online.

Jameson decided to jump start an online news site for the Bugle. This cut down on the pirated newspaper copies and spread news of his columns into other states. From there people were subscribing to his online newspaper just to read his columns. From there Jameson made enough money to purchases another building and start a television, and radio Daily Bugle broadcast. His media empire

Personality

Personality:

Jameson is loud, angry, and appears to be quite bitter towards life in general. He has an aggressive temper and tends to scare the living daylights out of his employees and anyone else who gets on his bad side, however he is not prone to throwing the first punch either. He's like a loud, scary, big barking dog who you can never tell if he's going to bite, and so you keep your distance. At the same time Jameson is not an evil man, as he has been known to champion the causes of Civil Rights, and his editorials criticizing heroes are not simply revealing his own personal distaste, but rather citing concerns of public safety with costumed vigilantes running around, and potentially breaking the law themselves. He questions what lines the police and the government will allow to be crossed before they put an end to these loose cannons! So it is clear that he is a passionate person who doesn't -always- only care about how many papers he sells.

Abilities

Strong:

Jameson is a pretty strong guy in spite of his smoking habit and the fact that he doesn't work out that much. His strength is mostly natural although he retains muscle from his boxing days as well. He can bench press 220 lbs roughly. Just don't ask him to do anything that requires stamina!

Skills

Boxing:
Jameson is a skilled boxer, capable of fighting up to three normal skilled people at once. Of course he's no Bruce Wayne and isn't going to be out there fighting crime (as if he'd stoop to such a low place.)

Business:
James may not have majored in business while in college but he didn't neglect taking courses in business entirely. He has found that he's pretty good at keeping profit margins not just where they need to be, but beyond where they need to be. He took a newspaper and turned it into a media empire! He has good instincts and up to date knowledge regarding marketing and appealing to consumers. He hires marketing staff who supplement his own knowledge and reluctantly -takes- their advice! He never sounds overly thankful but the pay raises for said staff tend to speak louder than words. Is he a genius? No but he's got a talent for number crunching and advertising that's as good as his writing and journalism abilities.

Writing:

Jameson is a skilled writer and has decades of experience in the field of journalism. He puts his writing skills to good use as an editor. His opinions are widely seen and are known to be well versed.

Resources

Media Empire:
As the head of a media empire, and an active editor, Jameson has a vast audience and commands considerable influence as a result. A LOT of people read and watch the news stories his many employees write and report. Jameson can get the word out in many different ways and potentially sway a lot of minds concerning a variety of topics.

Money:

Jameson is a wealthy man who owns a media empire. He rakes in a considerable amount of money as a result and isn't ever hurting for cash.

Weaknesses

Smoker:
Jameson is a chain smoker and has all the problems associated with that. Withdrawal if he doesn't get his nicotine, potential health problems down the road, and a decrease in stamina because his lungs aren't what they used to be.

Temper:

Jameson is often loud and angry. This can cause blood pressure issues but generally the effects of this are seen in his personal interactions. It can be a good thing to have a lot of people scared of you but it also makes it hard to have many friends.
