Mutant Kidnappings: Crowd Control
Date of Scene: 03 April 2018
Location: New York City
Synopsis: Another kidnapped mutant attack, this time at a rally at NYC city hall.
Cast of Characters: Hawkeye (Barton), Rogue, Iron Man, Lelantos, Hulk, Thor, Gambit, Black Widow (Romanoff), Captain America
Tinyplot: Mutant Kidnappings

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
The lead up to the rally had been in the news through the whole of the Easter weekend, a pro-mutant rally demanding action for the missing mutants lead by none other than Jumbo Carnation, plump avante garde mutant fashion designer and perhaps one of Mutant Town's more famous residents. The pro-humanity groups had all been in an uproar demanding their own time to speak, there were fights back and forth in the media and hand wringing from city hall about cancelling the rally's permit, but in the end they went through with it. About a thousand mutant supporters (the majority non-mutant) were on hand filling the space around City Hall, listening to Jumbo and others speak, holding up signs ranging from: "Mutants are people too!", to "Justice for Walrus Girl!", "Wake me When The Humans Die", "Justice for Walrus Girl!"

The pro-human side, they didn't get a permit but they showed up too, holding up their own signs reading: "Muties = Trash", "A Mutant took my Job" and "Humanity First!", trying to drown out the speakers with chants of "Muties go home!"

Between the two groups is a line of NYPD cops in riot gear a long with a few of the city's recognized and public heroes.

The media is on hand as well, some in the sky, some on the ground, even the smaller outlets have the odd drone buzzing about taking pictures and video.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Amoung the drones and the choppers there's another thing up in the sky, a motorcycle? That's new. On the back one of the costumed heroes keeping an eye on things, in this case Hawkeye. The archer's dressed in his purple suit today, since the Avengers not SHIELD had been called in to help keep the peace. Finding a good spot, to park hover, he keeps one eye on the crowd, another on the bike. It was new tech, he really didn't want to go out crashing his bike into a crowd of civilians.

Checking in on comms with the other Avengers on site, he yawns as he says << Looking good so far from up here? You guys, seeing anything up? >> He stretches, then checks the fuel on the bike. So far, so good.

Yep. Totally jinxed it.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue is seated atop one of the four-story tall apartment buildings in the area. She'd flown up to the back of it and walked along its roof's edge until coming to the front to sit down and dangle her legs over the ledge. Wearing a dark green jacket with a canvas hood that is pulled up over her head with her white bangs spilling out on either sides of her face, Rogue is just peering down at the crowds while gently swaying her feet.

She's got the comms with Hawkeye going and she looks up at his flying contraption. Rogue's right hand lifts up and she speaks into the comm from her link to it on her phone. <<Just a buncha nerds.>> She replies in professional-Avengering style.

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark is 'present', in terms of that there are two of his robot drones keeping a general eye on things, from very high up. And some light hacking into the other media drones, bridging the view through those. He hasn't been vocal otherwise with some kind of obnoxious commentary into Avenger com channels, which would suggest that while the little robots are around, Tony isn't actually paying attention to them right now.

Until Clint talks. Tony arrives on comms. << Depends. You hungry? I see a good cinnamon roll cart down to your left by that clump of cruisers, Barton. >>

Lelantos has posed:
Ron is fortunate, he is too small for standard issue riot gear, this he is not required to be attendance helping with crowd control. This enables him to be present as Lelantos, the unseen Avenger (no disrespect to THE Avengers...but it is a cool title). He is not actually invisible at the moment, but is in his costume, which is city camo, and is inconspicuiously watching from a hidden spot overlooking the rally. He notes Rogue and Hawkeye in their own aerial overlooks, and hopes that the presence of so many heroes is overkill and not an invitation to trouble.

Hulk has posed:
Sitting in a chair off to the side of the protest is Doctor Bruce Banner, whom is highly visible at the top of the stair... and decidedly /not/ sporting green skin right now. Initially reluctant to help with this one, Bruce relented to keep the two groups from tearing each other apart... and has decided to keep out of the middle of the groups, lest a Hulk episode claim him too early. He's reading his Nook tablet as he keeps another eye on the rally. In civilian garb, it's likely he won't be noticed.

Hopefully, he won't need to do a voluntary transformation.

<<Just enjoying the rays of sunshine from everyone. Really nice people out here.>> Bruce quips into his headset.

Thor has posed:
Thor is on the ground level. It's certainly not his fight either way, but he was told there was a fight. While not wrong, this is a moral battle for the soul of humanity and also for mutant preservation. Blah blah blah. Thor wants to punch something...

The god of thunder stands beside with a cop on both of his sides as he's in the middle of the line, and carefully the hammer is resting on his belt. Careful to not touch it as most everyone knows how dangerous it can be. SO he's doing what he can to avoid combat. Someone take a picture, Thor NOT fighting!

<<I too crave sustenance, yet I hunger for battle and this street is so close I can almost taste it.>> The god says, his fist clenching softly as he is idly grateful to not have his axe on him today as if he were weilding Jornbjorn, he definitely would be cutting into this mob with wild abandon.

Gambit has posed:
A bootheel on ledge and a creak of leather while the Cajun leans forward, looking down over the gathered mass of supporters, "These always just one big ole' target." Remy's experiences in the past have proven this is more often true than not.
A plume of smoke trickles up around his stubble laden features, red-black eyes roaming the cluster before the city hall.

When drones fly too near he tips his head down enough dark bangs shadow his features, keeping his profile always shifting. A habit that. Not entirely intentionally.

At the moment the thief is playing spotter, picking out important faces or possible danger points, NYPD and assembled on duty says this is likely to be a safe turn out but one can never be too prepared and this is just the sort of thing that feels very X-Men of him to be around, to be vigilant over.

An inhale follows an exhale through his nostrils, yeah, he ran out of toothpicks.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Thor is really stepping on his own toes when it comes to battle. On some on both sides ache for it as much as he does, but the towering presence of the God of Thunder, holds them back better than the line of cops can. That doesn't stop the odd passer by from asking Thor for a selfie or two though.

Meanwhile at the back of the rally, behind the anti-mutant protesters a van pulls up and three people are shoved out. A skinny teen in a long jacket, a man with short cut black hair and purple skin, and a young child. They stumble towards the crowd, the child crying "Somebody help! I need my Mom! Where's my Mom!" the other two look dazed as well, though when the anti-mutant crowd sees that guy with the purple skin, they go nuts. "Mutie!" one shouts. "He's hurting that kid!" another says before more shout "Get him!" and rocks start flying towards the man. They close in soon after, which is as it turns out the wrong move, the skinny guy, stops suddenly, blinking down at his clothing, there's several cannisters strapped to him, green lights flashing brightly. "Oh crap..." he mutters trying to dive away from people expecting an explosion.

What follows is worse in its own way. A cloud of green gas sprays from the cannisters hitting the man, the child and the teen as well as a number of the anti-muntant crowd.
he cloud of gas spreads quickly carried by the breeze and so does the panic as people who breath in the gas start screaming.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue is quietly listening to the other Avengers commenting on the comms and she's grinning a little before she looks over and up at Remy who'd she'd invited along on this since it was loosely related to X-Men type things. "Its been worse here since the President got axed last fall." She says back at the Cajun while continuing to sway her booted feet off the ledge of the building.

When the van pulls up down there and the shouting changes directions toward everything around it, Rogue's green eyes go back down to also look. She lifts her phone up to take some video and just so happens to be recording it all when the Gas Bombs go off. "Woah, shit." She says, seeing the green misty cloud spreading out now. <<Ya'll know how t'deal with toxins?>> Rogue says over the AV-comms. SHE wasn't prepared for toxins or gasses as they're one of her only few weaknesses.

Lelantos has posed:
Ron reaches into his utility belt for his gas mask. Someone is setting up these three mutants to be scapegoats. He can not do much about the gas...but he can sure get the cannisters off the poor mutants and then see about wisking them away. It helps to be an escape artist sometimes...he knows the quickest way to remove nearly any restraint.

Lelantos turns Invisible...he should not be seen, but throws his swing line and swings down to the center of the spreading cloud. He immediately sets about removing the cannister belts from the probably drugged mutants. He will put the gas cannisters inside his efidence bags to contain further gas release if possible.

Hulk has posed:
<<Oh shit.>>

That's the sound of Bruce Banner realizing immediately what's going on as he tries to run. He was expecting an oozing form of spit, not a weaponized gas... and brought no gas mask. <<No no no no...>> Bruce is visibly running.... and gets caught in the gas radius, his Nook tablet tossed to one side as he clutches at his head and starts to scream, pounding at his forehead.

<<NO!>> Bruce sounds panicked, on the verge of an anxiety attack as he screams it into the mic. Already, anyone looking at him will see green veins popping. Green skin is forming, his height is growing.

Then, the growl sounds out from the stairs. It's audible across the block.

This isn't a voluntary transformation. The Hulk is in full control as he comes out.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Hawkeye smiles, << Glad we're all having fun >> he says over comms. << Definitely more hungry for cinnamon buns, myself, but good contribution Thor >> he says with a shake of his head. Asgardians right?

Then all hell breaks loose!

"Shit what is that stuff-" Clint begins before he's cut off by screams. He doesn't see burns, just people losing their minds and clawing at each other. "Oh, hell."

His attention is on the gas and Rogue's question, which is why he misses banner until he's already changing. Clint fires an arrow, rigged with a sedative gas, but by the time it hits at Banner's feet he's already the Hulk. << No hard feelings, right, big guy? >>

Thor has posed:
When you've lived for thousands of years, you tend to have seen everything, and even on Midgard, especially lately, you expect everything. Except when you're hunched over bent down heavily at the knees in order to pose with a young woman and give her the largest godliest smile you can for her twitgram photos.

"I hope it is a good on-" Thor cuts off as he starts to stand to his full height, towering over most of the crowd to see the green smoke starting to rise. "Go home quickly." He tells the woman before he raises his voice to a mighty blast louder than any squad car. "DISPERSE!" Thor demands as his hand falls to his hammer and with little room to work he can't throw it well, but with a soft underhand, he is dragged into the air in a shallow arch.

The blond Avenger spots the young girl and in the air he spins his hammer several times before he lobs his hammer with a chunk and is pulled to the woman with godly haste before he lands briefly and wraps her up and then ascends with another hammer throw. "I have rescued thee."

Iron Man has posed:
<< Ow. >> Because that was a Hulk-sized scream into the comm. << So that's definitely a Hulk incoming. >> Tony says, deadpan, but his tone is tense. << I'll see if I can't get a read on this gas, and scrape together something that can neutralize it. Sending some backup as well on crowd control. >>

Tony's little robots peels off from the sky to try to get a handle on what the gas is. He'd had some crowd control types on standby, and they get released into flight to approach the scene, and deal with routing people out from the fringes. "For your safety, please vacate the area," is the general robotic message from those robots.

Gambit has posed:
Remy's cigarette is put out and tucked behind one ear. There is a sigh from him and hes pulling a scarf up over his mouth, tightening it around the back of his head. The best he has for these sort of situations, the X-Men usually have a teamate or preparations for such a thing. Not this time, at least for Gambit.
"Maybe hold your breath real real good, chere." That is his plan for now.
"Eenie meenie miney... " A quiet whisper from the lithe scoundrel, hes looking focused now, staring the chaos over, picking out a target, formulating a plan. Where is Scott or at least Ororo to yell options, always helpful.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
The efforts to break up the crowd help, Thor's bellow, Tony's robots, people start running from the gas, the cops quickly overwhelmed as the people from both sides stream past.

Also, the presence of the Hulk, that REALLY gets people running.

Though where the gas has touched, it's chaos, people weeping, being trampled, fighting, clawing at each other as their most personal fears take hold.

When Ron reaches for the cannister on the purple skinned mutant, the man staggers back saying, "You stay away from me! You won't like it!" As he says that, electricity begins to arc to him, phones, a nearby drone, power lines, drawing in more and more, "Oh no! It's happening again!" he wails as the energy begins to crackle all around him.

The skinny kid, he's got his own issues, he's spewing gas, as he claws at himself, "They're all over me, oh god," and runs into the crowd, phasing and literally running THROUGH the crowd. The people he passes through keel over, wracked with pain. And the gas? As soon as it's out of his phasing effect, becomes solid and breathable again, spreading the fear.

Thor, has saved the girl, she wails as she's taken into the sky and then, it happens, her fears, men in ski masks poking her with needles, her mother being ripped away from her, the monsters under the bed all bleed into Thor's mind. Though the psychic child's fears don't stay hers for long as they take root in Thor's mind they morph into his own.

Hulk has posed:
A slam of a green fist down into the concrete signals Hulks emergence. It isn't 'create a crater' strong, but there's definitely a dent. Then, the coughing starts.

Yes, that fear gas is making him cough, and he waves it away, "Hulk not like funny gas." Hulk observes, slamming his hands together in a shockwave that clears the air instantly for a good radius... and also happens to do a bit of property damage, blowing out windows and doing superficial damage to pillars.

Then, he notices the arrow at his feet... and looks up to Hawkeye, "Arrow man not funny, either." Hulk gives in reply... before he /leaps/ over in front of the electric kid, leaving a small crater as he does so.. "Hulk deal with you." He proclaims as he reaches out and tries to grab the kid gently. Looks like the Hulk is trying to take him out of play?

Rogue has posed:
Rogue looks over and up at Remy as he wraps a scarf around his lower face and she just smirks at him. "Ya know that ain't gonna do a damn thing t'help you out with that gas, right?" She asks him. "Makes ya look mysterious though... so keep it." And with that said, her phone was slipped away into her pocket and she puts her gloved hands down on the ledge of the building on either sides of her butt and she SHOVES herself off the building and free-falls!

About fifteen feet above the ground Rogue curves into a flying arc-that sends her right past the fleeing crowds, she's angling for the most vulnerable looking, and snags up a couple of younger kids, holding one in either arm she lifts them up and smiles at them. "Heya, kiddos. There's a park just down the street, lets get ya'll outta here, huh?"

And the flying Southern Belle zips past the chaos to go set the kids down near the playground equipment.

Lelantos has posed:
Ron quickly put a set of rubber glovers over his costume gloves...they will probably melt fro the charge the other mutant is displaying, but may buy him enough time to release the belt...someone ha to try to contain the gas and he is the one in position to start trying. The other two he will have to get to after. One thing at a time.

Gambit has posed:
"Jus' gotta buy me a lil time. Never need much to work my magic." Remy flashes a smile that tightens the clothe over his face then it falters, "Which you dun go an' take that the way I know you wanna." A warning.

Like her though the Cajun is flipping off the top of that rooftop, landing on an outcropping ledge kicking off of it to latch to a streetlamp, spiral down it and drop on to the top of a parked UPS truck. There is a 'flash' of violet light.
A kinetic charged card zips out slams in to a fire hydrant and erupts, the intention that its blasting off towards the smoky areas, hes no chemist, no great thinker when it comes to this sort of thing, hes got a reactive brilliance and a gift for finding openings. This here, this is all just winging it and relying on luck coupled with instinct.

He does lurch forward enough, half clambering down the hood point to see if he can't grab ahold of one of the coughing stragglers, yank them out and around the oxygen free opposing side of the truck, "On you go, run run." He encourages. Carful not to engage himself too heavily with the toxic clouds. Just hanging at the fringes. Hes good at that after all.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
Assistance is incoming in the form of a Quinjet travelling at a high rate of speed. Not enough to cause any damage to the surroundings but probably faster than it should be going in the city. It moves etween the buildings expertly, skimming in to a stop about fifty feet above the crowd.

"This doesn't look good. Some sort of gas. Causing panic. Take a rebreather with you," Natasha yells to the back of the Quinjet as she pushes the button to lower the rear ramp. She also sets the jet on autopilot, settling the craft into a hover at that level. Only then does she rise from the pilot's seat and head out to exit using that ramp she just opened.

Iron Man has posed:
<< Okay, we lack an easy neutralizer, but I'll hack something together. I have an idea. >> Tony reports, coolly. An Idea. Which means a lot, since it's from Tony. And he has the full supplies from his lab at his hands: that opens a lot of options.

<< Duct tape the situation together for a few more minutes, Avengers. >> That translates to Iron Man being on the way, after he's grabbed the items he needs, blazing out of the tower at top speed.

<<Yeah, about the Gas: I've got some scans on it, Widow. --I can't tell if it's going to infect by contact as well as being breathed, looks nasty. Just FYI. >>

Thor has posed:
Thor holds the girl against his side with his hammer hand held out pulling the two through the air and as she starts to mentally push her fears into his mind it's not her fears that get a hold of him, it his latent fears that start to boil into the god's consciousness.

Thor begins to drop, the warrior having very VERY specific fears that could only be seen via hallucinations. The god pluments back down towards the hard pavement and crowd below, but he's doing everything in his fear to put himself between the girl and the ground, though at this altitude, the ending will be grim. He's all muscle and armor, he's not going to be a very soft and squishy buffer.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Hawkeye gets ready to leap to a building when Hulk looks his way, though when Big Green goes elsewhere and doesn't smash the purple kid, he lets out a breath. The moment of relief is only that, a moment.

He quickly starts picking off targets in the crowd, he came loaded for crowd control, it's all putty arrows, net arrows and a couple of tazers he's just getting the worst of those affected to stop.

<< Great Tony >> he says as takes another shot. << But be brilliant quick, we don't have all day like when you saved the net. >> Yep, even now with the jokes.

Captain America has posed:
In the back of the Quinjet the roar of the engines block out most casual conversation even as the SHIELD crewmen in the back look over their stations. Occasionaly one or the other shoots a glance over their shoulder to the man in the dark red, white, and blue uniform. He's standing at the ready, one hand on the ring grip.
At Widow and Tony's comments he touches a hand to the side of his head and gives a nod she won't see but then he speaks into the comms, << Roger that. >>
Slinging the shield on his back, Captain America looks over his shoulder as Natasha joins him at the bay door, "Let's see what we got." And as he says that the Jet lurches up and then back as it tips once it's gained safe altitude. A nod is given to the servicemen as he says towards them, "Stay safe gentlemen."
And then he takes a running start, boots clanking on the metal floor, the ramp, and then silent as he drops off and falls the distance needed to the nearby rooftop overlooking the chaos. He lands with a /whud/ and regains his feet then looks the situation over. Comms helped, but nothing beats getting an eye on.
<< Thor, >> His eyes flick to take in Hulk and him helping with the child. << Need you to back Hulk and try and help those out of control kids. >>
He breaks into a run and leaps off the side of the building, landing on the roof of a Tesla with a /thump!/ and then rolling off to break into a run. << Rogue, give Thor a hand. You guys got the heavy lifting. >>
He keeps moving and then lifts his voice again, << Hawkeye, Widow, we gotta get these people out of here and to the aid stations that the first responders should be setting up. >>
Then he pauses as he helps up a fallen child that's bawling from the effects of the gas, << Tony, we're all counting on you though. >>

Rogue has posed:
Rogue has set the two kids she plucked out of the chaos down near the swing-set in the park and is already sweeping back around on her way back when the orders come in from Captain America. She can see the Quinjet up above, she can see the water spraying the street now and if she remembers anything from Science class it was that 'eye washing station' that she never wanted to have to use...

<<On it, Captain Sugahbutt.>> Rogue replies to Rogers as she zips over head toward the falling Asgardian. Inwardly she was much happier to have these orders than 'Deal with Hulk'.

Just before Thor and his companion hit the pavement though, they're both scooped up into the arms of the Southern girl. She smiles brightly at them both. "Ya'll know any good movies out right now? I need somethin' t'do later tonight." She flying the pair up toward the roof that she and Gambit had been on previously.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Ron is able to nab the cannister from the electric man with the purple skin, it turns out the man didn't see him, it was just his delusions. The Hulk though, that he sees! The man screams and lets go with all of his electrical power point blank into the Hulk!

Ron's not without his own problems, his skin begins to itch and little flashes of things begin to appear at the edges of his vision, it may be that breathing isn't the only way to get hit and holding the cannister he's getting hit with a lot.

Remy's trick with the fire hydrant, drags some of the cloud out of the sky. And soaking some of the panicked mob as well that at least redirect's their crazy at the water rather than each other. Though at the edge of the crowd, the phasing kid is coming Remy's way full speed, two clouds of gas following him.

Cap and Natasha are faced with a stream of panicked people below them, some break tearing into people randomly as their fear takes over.

Clint for his part, << Roger that Cap. Coming down. >> he guides his skycycle down to twelve feet above the ground, shouting for people to head to safety as he deals with the more violent members of the crowd.

Thor has posed:
Thor clutches his hammer and the girl as he's plucked out of the air and deposited onto a rooftop with a very odd question asked in his direction.

Looking to Rogue as he finds his feet and sets the girl on her bottom, Thor's eyes are visibly shaken. He lifts his hammer and spins it twice before shaking his head. "Movies will be later Rogue. We have work to do." The god says, his knees shaking with fear before he is pulled out of the air and towards the Hulk and maybe misunderstanding, the god of Thunder holds out his hammer and seems to draw in any archs of electricty before being dispersed and diluted into nothingness. "Hulk, I am with you. Not against! Understood?"

Gambit has posed:
It is radio silence for Remy. Rogue dashing off to play flying superhero and him without any tune in for the Avenger hotline he makes himself useful in the default 'hero mode' by tugging people free of the immediate hazard zone. A yank to that prior individual sends them roughly to the pavement where they can scramble free and race off, at least far enough out of range they can start tweeting this and broadcasting. Media world and all. 5R
"Oi." Remy exclaims only to leap and slide over the hood of a parked sedan, racing to heft and dump a bag lady in to her cart, legs in the air she kicks violently pelting him twice in the forehead. "Ow, calm please!"
"ALIENS!" She cries, "They're taking me again!"

Remy ignores it, thrusting that cart roughly in the safe direction, which is away from the phasing kid coming his way. "ALLONS-Y!" Remy shouts as if that will motivate the cart faster.

"You, stop! Halt! Freeze... " Thats about all the thief can muster at the phasing cloud runner at this moment. Maybe the threat of a bo-staff will also help as it extends out.

Lelantos has posed:
Ron quickly puts the cannister into his evidence bag. It is a good time to be glad he is blind when invisible, because he knows that anything he SEES is a hallucination. Now of only he was not being flooded with the thoughtts and emotions of those nearby...especially the anger of the Hulk which is almost knocking Ron out with it's intensity. It is all he can do to hang on to remembering the simple thought to finish containing the gas. Finish, nothing else matter, not fear, not anger, not hallucinations...finish the job Ron.

Captain America has posed:
Standing just on the edge of the building and looking down at the stream of people, it's going to take quite a bit of work to make sure nobody gets trampled as the fear takes effect. Captain America looks to the side towards Natasha, "You set?" He'll wait for some sign of an affirmative then he touches his hand to his ear, << Hawkeye. Cover us if you can, Widow and I are on crowd control. You see something we don't, feel free to sing. >>
That said he'll drop down into that flow of the crowd. He stands tall amongst them, urging people away from the main area of the conflict and trying to help those that have lost their footing or are acting out.

Iron Man has posed:
<< You and your demands for immediate results, Barton. So when is that wedding, again?>> Tony questions Clint in return. <<Rogue, I knew we brought you on for the best reasons. I'm adding 'stylish comm chatter' to your accolades.>>

<<So... I'm going to see if I can compress all the gas under a filtering force-field to get it out of the crowd. Well, technically, mashed into the floor. Please protect my pylons. A lot of random damage being thrown, but here we go. >>

Iron Man sits above the gas cloud, calling his robots back in, and clamping devices onto them from a long array coil he brought with him. Clip clip clip. They are small upright structures: very tiny glowing pylons that throb with energy as they interface with the drones.

A large soft aura gathers between the drones, and they start to descend in a spreading spiral from the sky, to surround the zone of gas. The gas will slowly start to compress, downwards towards the ground, as the field begins to filter. Tony mostly babysits the floating drones, making adjustments, focused on the gas containment. Which has involved pressing all the gas flat and down.

<< I need those canisters off that running guy, I've got a containment, but if he gets loose out of my zone, well. Anyone feel lucky about that, or do I need to multitask? >>

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
Having followed Cap to the rooftop, Natasha takes stock of the crowd below. Since they knew there was gas involved, she's actually wearing a full hood and protective gear, no skin exposed. The rest of her costume is normal right down to Glcoks and wristbands. She waits a moment, picking out targets. The ones that are panicking the most, that are the more violent. They need to be taken down first. Not with prejudice. A few Bites or...better idea. As Cap speaks to her, she gives a nod that she's ready. "Going to try to take out a few of the big guns then hit the other side of the crowd an try to get folks out of the area," she offers to him.

She leaps off the side of the building, firing her line a moment later and swinging in an arc over the crowd. One arm is raised, wristbands shifted to a few knockout gas pellets. As she swings over the heads of the writhing mass of terrified humanity, she fires those small circular rounds. As they impact the ground, they explode into a white gas which should have an instantaneous knockout effect. Each will only hit about ten feet and there are only five of them but hopefully that will take out some of the most violent. She pointedly does not fire near the areas where people are trying to escape though, not wanting them to end up trampled in the mess. The arc brings her down on the opposite side of the crowd. "This way! Quickly! Get out of range of the gas!" She tries to direct them to clear paths of escape.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue watches Thor go back to doing Thor-things with a slight nod of her head. "Movies, later, right..." She smirks then and turns back to the fear-struck child that she's brought up to the roof with her, she's not leaving the kid up here. "You got parents around here somewhere?" She asks the kid then. "Somewhere I can take you near-by that is out of this madness while we Powered Goofballs clean everything up and make sure this place is safe again?"

Rogue hears Tony's quip over the comms about her and it makes her smirk with internal glee but she can't reply right now. She does glance over the edge of the building to try to spot Gambit though, realizing she should've gotten him onto the comm channel as well. Hindsight is 20/20!

<<Hey, ya'll. The underwear model thats flinging purple flamin' cards around down there is Gambit. He's on our side. He's not kidnappin' homeless people even if it might look like that. So go easy on'im, he's with us on this!>>

Hulk has posed:
The Hulk looks like he's prepared for a full blast... and only growls as it stings a little. "Blondie not attack Hulk." Hulk concedes, "Hulk really want to SMASH this puny human... but will not. Hulk know gas being funny." Hulk grunts as he goes to pick up the kid, his large fist closing around him gently, but firmly. "Hulk get funny looking running man." Hulk states... before he /leaps/ over directly in front of the kid by a dozen feet.

Then, he roars in the kids face, trying to unbalance him enough to maybe lose focus. Turns out Hulk isn't an idiot.

Yes, electric kid is still being held in one hand.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
The bow staff does no good, the guy runs right through it and on into Remy dosing him with gas, and causing him a butt load of pain too. Yeah? He got the discount version of Kitty's powers, getting phased through hurts like a bitch!

Ron gets the cannister into the bag just as the halucinations begin to take hold. What does Ron fear most? He's about to see it for himself.

<< Got it Cap >> Hawkeye says, he maneuvers the Skycycle, to keep a better eye on Cap and Nat. << Also, Tony, keep that up and you're not invited. >>. Nat's section is out like a light, but a cop caught up in the gas is rolling the way of the sleeping rioters in his squad car, trying to get out of there.

Cap has his own problems. Clint knocks out a guy going for a downed cop's gun, but another rioter gets to it and he begins to fire at the things in his head not caring what's behind them.

Tony's forcefield does its trick, and slowly starts to push down the gas except where phasing kid is. Hulk's roar, gives the kid a fright, but his power is born of emotion more than focus, he diverts left, ducking into a building, and then out the other side. Heading towards Thor and Rogue.

Gambit has posed:
"Appears that worked." Remy marvels. Nah, Hulk's roar did that.

The humor in his tone doesn't match his eyes or the set of his lips behind that drawn up scarf. As if trying to further divert the kid from heading in doors he hurls that staff after charging the tip and launching, like a javelin it slams in to the cement somewhere in the directional path of the phase-kid, crackle booming with an eruption of force. Harmless. Just loud and showy. Like most everyone else here.

Captain America has posed:
The /fwiff/ and snap past of the arrow's flight draws Cap's eye just enough so when he whirls he sees that man going for the police officer's gun. "Get down!" He shouts as he pushes a young woman into cover behind an old GMC truck. He lifts his shield and fights against the flow of the crowd, creating just enough of a break in it to get a clear line to the rioter with the pistol.
There's a /PANG!/ and a /SA-PANG!/ as the rounds bounce off the shield and are hurled upwards even as the star-spangled hero plants one hand on the hood of another car and scissors into a kick that has one foot smashing the gun out of the man's hand and then the other thumping into his chest to knock him back.
The pistol is gained and the chamber is quickly snapped open, the shell casings and any rounds left are emptied into a trash can then the the weapon is tucked into his waist-belt. Yet already he's moving towards another hot spot even as his voice is heard on the comm, << Status on the runner? >>

Lelantos has posed:
Ron knows his fear well, it is an old friend he has lived with for years. He is afraid of being alone, that there will never be anyone he can open up to and trust and share with. It is iroinic that his hallucination cuts off his telepathy and his other senses, he can no longet tell anyone is around him, trapped in an empty world with no one else left. While he is suddenly visible, he only sees the buildings...to him all empty and lifeless, like he is the last man on earth.

Thor has posed:
"My green friend roared. That. Means. STOP!" Thor commands as he brings his hammer down and a bolt of lightning is drawn forth from the sky above and smashes into the ground with a mighty crack of the sky and a wave rolling out from the point of contact! The god of thunder is no longer having a good time. He's here to stop this fight before it gets worse and he starts to really enjoy himself on Midgard.

    No one wants that.

Hulk has posed:
"Hulk tired of this." Hulk grunts as the phasing kid goes through a building. Then, he faces north.... and /LEAPS/, leaving the area entirely as he disappears instantly out of sight. The force of the leap leaves a solid crater.

Tony and the SHIELD operatives will note the Hulk is leaping over, and over, from rooftop, to rooftop, and looking around.

He's looking for something. With electric kid in hand.

Poor kid.

Iron Man has posed:
<< "Gambit", huh? Yeah. /He/ sounds reliable,>> Iron Man answers dryly, finding the thrower of the purple objects. He's still minding his force fields, but glides down directly towards Remy. There's an assumption about not being shot. He's Iron Man.

Iron Man addresses Remy aloud, ramped up by the suit's speaker. "Hi. Gambit, right. Dig the code name. Giving us a hand? Party favor for you," Iron Man says, and tosses a small high-tech communication unit to him. That is, until some screaming people draw Iron Man's attention, and he's airborne again, to direct one side of his containment to include that area.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue has delivered the child to the police on the opposite street over and has now arrived in time to see the phase-shifting guy running thorugh Gambit and toward where she and Thor were. How do you really stop someone like that? Its not really within her pwoerset to-do-so and if they run through her will she absorb them? She's not sure... hopefully they THOR is summoning lightning!

<<Is there a central target here that I should be pummeling?>> Rogue asks over the comms. <<I don't wanna get yelled at for just standing around.>> And as she's saying that she's watching the Hulk bound across rooftops above. "Thats not gonna end well for anybody..." She's now muttering.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Remy's staff throw, Thor's hammer smash, rip up the street around running guy and however his phasing works, he still needs to touch the ground. He trips, falls, and vanishes into the ground a puff of green smoke to mark the place. Is he gone for good? Unclear.

Ron's gripped hard by the toxin, but, as he becomes suddenly visible, he's at least spotted. << Whoa did a guy just appear right there? We've got a guy down with a cannister by Rogue and- >> There's a pause for Thor's hammer smash and Remy's exploding staff. << -Thor. Also, Rogue, >> As he's talking he keeps people back from the pylons, with arrow after arrow. Still plenty of people running about though. And a cop car heading for Nat and people passed out on the ground around her.

Captain America has posed:
As the great green behemoth is /vaulting/ off into the distance, Cap frowns and holds up his shield even as a crazed crowd-goer tries to smash him with a baseball bat. But the bat /clangs!/ hard upon the shield, the reverberations causing the man to drop the weapon and stagger back even as Cap speaks into the comms, his free hand against his ear to help him focus.
<< Thor, you're on Hulk roundup duty. >> He turns his head to the side, looking off into the distance and frowning to himself. << Rogue, keep in pursuit. Get eyes on the runner if you can. >>
But the crowd is still wild and rushing, and he moves to protect those canisters for now. << We need evac for these substances. >> But he's already moving to try and protect the objects.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
People are starting to move, getting out of range. The crowd is thinning some and her knockout gas helped. Only to have someone trying to mow over them all with a car. It's going to be one of those days.

She leaves her charges to continue their escape and steps into the path of the car. Her right arm is brought up. A grenade is fired with a 'pfft' of noise from the gauntlet. The force behind is enough to send the grenade right through the grill where it wedges into the radiator. A moment later, the concussive grenade explodes. It should have enough force to take out the engine and the front tires. Hopefully the vehicle will come to a stop before it reaches the fallen people. If not, she'll have to shift to option B which isn't very good. It would have a fifty-fifty chance of backfiring. With this day? Probably 90/10.

Gambit has posed:
Gambit? Remy has found himself paused and staring at the green clouds that have passed by, the wake of the phasing kid. Somewhere in his mind its dawning on him his only protection being a scarf over his mouth. The thief's eyes have shrunken in to crimson pinpoints around void black dots.

"Dig the code name. Callsign? " He repeats numbly, "What, my HAND!?... my hands?" His eyes go round, "YOU CANT HAVE MY HANDS! I need them... What sort of Astronaut are you, mon ami?"
A blink and he doesn't catch that communication for once, Remy never misses a good throw, hes just on of those types, finesse, prowess, accuracy, throwing and catching are just what he does and it lands at his feet, skitters, "Ooo a piece of space candy." He kneels down and picks it up, twisting it in his fingers before shoving it in his mouth.

<<CRUNCHCRUNCH>> Remy is eating an Avengers mic audibly.
Maybe that old lady was right and these are aliens, things are starting to get confusing, the gas? Yeah, the hallucinogenic chemicals are in his nostrils, skin contact even, its in his pores. What wonderous colors.
"Buzz Lightyear... you asshole." Remy is mad, a little heartbroken too, Pixar how dare you. He begins charging up that slobbed on comm piece, letting it crackle with kinetic energy.

He has entirely forgotten his purpose. Drugs are bad kids.

Lelantos has posed:
Ron does not see the others, his mind sees the impact as a gas line exploding due to lack of maintainence and there is a plume of fire rising into the air from the point of the exolosion and he flees away from the heat, leaving the cannister forgotten behind him.

Thor has posed:
Thor doesn't respond, as he stands back up from his area of effect attack but the god is either deaf or simply deaf to his own powers. Either way, Thor's hammer is spun several times before he's ripped from the ground by the momentum of the enchanted Hammer and Thor is off like a bullet into the sky to track down and do his work against Hulk.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue is searching through the chaos, explosions, vanishing Hulks... Thor shooting off to chase after him? Where'd Remy go. Her eyes scanning the crowds. <<Got it. Chase the... Kitty-wannabe.>> Kitty was one of Rogue's BFFs from Xavier's, hasn't seen her in months though. <<Consider it, do--OW!>> She may be invulnerable to most things, but someone CHEWING ON THE MIC still hurts her ears!

Rogue pulls the comm out of her right ear and then looks just in time to see the 'phase kid' fall through the earth and down into the sewers.

"Oh for <censored>'s sake." She says then, groaning loudly and stomping her feet over toward a man-hole cover that she easily picks up with one finger and sets aside.

Rogue stares down into the sewer, dark and smelly... a weird steam coming out from down there. Rogue lifts her mic up into and tries to talk through the crunching. <<I think he got away.>> She says into the thing. "<censored> you, Pennywise. I'm not gonna float down there..."

Iron Man has posed:
<< That could have gone better, >> Iron Man admits as the ramblings of Gambit - or chewing?-come into the comms. Iron Man is now landing amid the gas zone near Captain America, collecting canisters, and trying to get the last of the gas under control. Well, the gas that isn't attached to a phasing mutant running who knows where. <<I've got containment here. We lose one?>> Iron Man questions, as he recovers one that was dropped.

His containment amounts to one of the robots that had been blearily repeating 'get to safe distance', which he has called over. Iron Man flipped open the torso of the thing, pulled out part of something that no doubt isn't THAT important, and is using the cavity to get the canisters contained.

Hulk has posed:
The sounds of craters forming as the Hulk continues to leap from roof to roof get more and more distant as he moves in a pattern. Electric kid is still in one hand as he 'flies'.

Seriously, poor kid.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Despite their odds for the day, the cop car rolls to a stop just shy of downed rioters who sleep on unaware of how close they came to disaster. Well, until they see it all on Youtube later.

Clint lands and moves to check on Ron, making sure he's okay and the cannister is removed before he calls on the medics to take him away.

Yeah, runner is down in the sewers somewhere, the gas must be close to gone, maybe the Ninja Turtles will find him if he makes it to Brooklyn.

Hulk's pursuit of the van and Thor's pursuit of the Hulk, end in a very smashed van and an unconscious driver.

And Remy is still chewing on the comms.

And the gas on site is currently contained by Tony's forcefield.

Hulk has posed:
Sometime later. SECONDS later.... a very satisfied looking Hulk drops out of the sky in a small crater back at the protest. The resulting /BOOM/ could be heard for miles.

In one hand is electric kid. In the other? A very totalled looking van, with a very unconscious driver at the wheel, who looked pinned inside by SMASH!

He sets the car down in front of Captain America, like he's delivering a UPS package. "Delivery for you, flag man." Hulk gives, smugly. The kid is offered as well.

Lelantos has posed:
It is just as well Ron is currently out of touch with reality...or is it? He sees the attempt to escort him to safety as an attack by a pack of starving dogs and fights back with skill (though not much precision as what he is attacking is not exactkly what is there).

Captain America has posed:
Scrunching up one eye at the electronic squeal in his ear, Cap winces as he runs, leaping on top of the hood of yet another car and then bounding up the side of a building to snare the sill of a window and help use it as a way to vault up over the side of that third story rooftop, letting him at least get something of a look around even as the crowd control Avengers each work their angles.
<< Roger that, Rogue. Let's get the other canisters secured. Shift to recovery and control of the crowd. Let's wrap this up people. >> He slings his shield over his back and eyeballs the lay of the land, frowning at the work this is going to take to handle. But then he gives a nod as if the other Avengers could see it as he murmurs into the comm again.
<< Good work, everyone. Even you, Tony. >>

He's overlooking the situation and then out of nowhere, HULK! lands with the heaviness he's known for. Looking down at the green goliath, Cap gets a small smirk and gives a nod. "Good work to you too, Hulk."

Iron Man has posed:
<< You're welcome. >> Tony answers Captain America, at ease, flippant in tone. And spots something. <<Oh look, the press. I'm on it,>> Tony comments. He'll take that one for the team, don't worry, guys.

<<If you find more containers, throw them into the MI-J2,>> the inventor adds distractedly, before veering off towards the groups of reporters, to get that side of the potential damage in hand.

Gambit has posed:
Abruptly Remy's palm slams against his forehead. He is an X-Man, they have an excessive amount of training when it comes to mental fortitude, he is also a stubborn assed Acadian who kows when hes not in his right mind. Drugs and mind-altering states are no new affliction for him to suffer.

A blink past the strike Gambit just delivered himself and he tries to focus down his own scrambled thoughts, "I think uh... "
RThat space candy no... comm piece... Buzz Lig--- Iron Man tossed him is held up. The compacted and focused kinetic force pushed in to it by his mutant gift defused. Hopefully he didn't break it. Remy tries again, speaking in to it, "I think I drank the Koolaid. My minds not quite right. I need a nurse or three..."

Minds not quite right but at least he's aware of this to some extent, enough hes not being letting himself fall in to a /violent/ tripping of the balls. "Good thing I wrote my name in these underwear... " A joke maybe. No he is actually checking. "What? My name is Rolph Lauren? Who knew."
In the chaos the thief is wandering off, disappearing with the hystericals who have been afflicted with the gaseus assault.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue is putting the man-hole cover back into place where it was to keep the evil clowns down where they belong (she has no idea the Ninja Turtles live down there! She's met one once, but that was a few months ago!).

Spotting Remy in the crowd though she leaps up into the air and gently lands down beside him. Eyeballing him closely as he rambles. "Why are you talkin' about your underwear... again?" She asks the Cajun, moving to stand beside him and reaches up with GLOVED hands to touch his shoulders. "Come on, lets go get you some water..." She sighs then and shakes her head. "I told ya that scarf weren't gonna be enough for ya to go all willy-nilly inta the gas and play hero. Look, I ain't got any real nursin' skills. But I -do- have a Nurses costume from last Halloween." She grins at hium and shakes her head side to side. "I... don't know if you deserve that kinda treatment though."

Hulk has posed:
"Hulk want to SMASH." Oh boy.

With that, he crouches, and /LEAPS/ back into the air, heading back north at a /far/ faster rate.

Hulk is gone.

Gambit has posed:
"Hello nurse!" Remy leers as Rogue lands near him, "Names Rolph not Willy Nilly, thankyouverymuch." He says with a huff, "But lets do this, this water and thing of getting me... away from the freaky ass trees behind you. Did you Shrek? He just jumped that way. Scariest shit I seen in long time... "
