Cast of Characters: Batman, Deadshot

Batman has posed:
Late evening in Gotham City. A day after things begin to set back to rights.

The message is sent out through a string of intermediaries. Its contents include a date, a time, and the words 'regarding hats' and 'parley'. It's unsigned, but this sort of message often is.

At the location--atop the Herod Arena--Batman waits silently. He keeps his arms out enough so that they do not get obscured by the cape that flutters behind him.

Slowly, Batman turns about, making a full revolution every five minutes or so.

Deadshot has posed:
Despite how well Bats is looking around, he still hears the cocking of a hammer, and would turn to find himself staring down the barrel of a pistol......and the ruby eye with the white mask of Deadshot behind it.

"You've got some serious guts to be looking for me, Bats. What do you want?" He hasn't lowered the gun......but he does uncock the hammer of the pistol, and batman knows if he flinches for a batarang....he's dead.

Batman has posed:
The dark knight finishes turning around, arms still out at his sides. He purses his lips while the other man speaks. Once he's facing Deadshot, he stands motionless.

"I thought it was obvious," Batman says. "I'm here to talk. Does 'parley' mean something else now on the killer-for-hire circuit?"

He continues. "You didn't need to help with the Hatter recently. But you did. Why?"

Deadshot has posed:
Deadshot lowers his pistol and sighs. "Can never be too careful, bat. In my line of work, 'parley' means 'trap'."

Deadshot simply stares, sort of, at batman. "There was a time and place where the thing I wanted the most was to see you dead." he then takes a deep breath. "However....I'm sure you've heard of a little 'incident' in another city that ended up destroying numerous facilities and satellites.....as well as a subway station....."

Batman has posed:
Still motionless, Batman replies, "Looking to make up for past mistakes, then? I'll admit, I didn't take you for the penitent type."

He slowly--very slowly--begins to lower his arms. "That still doesn't explain the Hatter incident. If you were making good for a mistake, you'd be working pro bono for the affected city."

Batman's eyes narrow just a hair. "I came to see if you had an obvious angle. You don't. So I'm giving you the chance to come clean about ... whatever it is you're involved in."

Deadshot has posed:
"The only thing I'm involved in, Bat......is Zoe." Deadshot says very flatly. "Even after I got out of prison, everything I earn goes to Zoe and her education, so she doesn't have to live with that bitch of a mother she has, and she doesn't have to worry about me."

he then puts the pistol away. "Yeah, I did help you, Catwoman and that strange sword dude against the hatter gratis......because, during that incident....I lost......a friend."

That last word....should shock Batman highly.....

Batman has posed:
Deadshot's words do cause Batman's narrowed eyes to widen slightly. He cocks his head at a shallow angle. "There's a part of me that wants to scoff, to call your lie."

Batman exhales deeply through his nose. "But I don't think you're lying."

He stands quiet for a long moment before speaking again. "Zoe--your daughter?--does she know what you do? How you support her? Who's paid ... in different ways ... for that support?"

Deadshot has posed:
"She knows I'm a hitman." Deadshot says. "After you caught me and turned me in to the police, how could she not? After Pyro sacrificed himself to help us take out the Enchantress, it made me rethink my values, just a little." Deadshot then looks at batman. "I still don't like you Bats. But I know, if there's a chance for Zoe to make it out of that hole she's in, thanks to her mother.....you'll end up helping her out of it....somehow."

"I'm no hero Bat.....I'm just here to make money, but I think I'll be a little more 'selective' of my targets. If it ever hits the fan.....give commander Rick Flagg a call directly. He'll try and help you out. The 'Suicide Squad' may not like you too much either, but they do right when they need to. Just.......two things Bat....."

"....If I give you names, don't go straight after them. It'll put Zoe at risk. And....protect Zoe. She's a good kid, despite me being her father."

He then stops. "Three things. Be very careful of Amanda Waller. That bitch.......after we went to rescue her in the city, and told her crew to wipe the drives.....she killed her own crew. She finds someone's strengths, and weaknesses, and uses your weakness against you to be her strength."

Batman has posed:
"Floyd Lawton," Batman says quietly. "you'll make a lot of enemies if word gets out that you're effectively a CI--whether we call it that or not." He stares at the man and then nods.

"Still ... there's no reason a child should ever be deprived of a parent who actually loves and cares for them," he adds. "Nor should they be punished for the parent's sins."

As Deadshot lists off the three warnings, Batman nods again. "Waller's a known variable--of a sort. I didn't know that, but I'm not surprised by it, either."

The dark knight begins to turn away but stops. "Don't give me a reason to come after you. If not for /your/ sake, then for hers. There's a difference between looking out for her and slipping down a very steep slope."

Deadshot has posed:
Deadshot says, "Like I said Bat. I'll give you names....you'll build 'cases' against them on your own and go after them on your own." He says as the bat turns. "But like I said, if things go to pot, you can rely on me, but if you have to come after me, I will not make it easy for you.....and I will shoot you. it's a matter of whether I 'miss' or not." And batman knows Deadshot doesn't miss. "Ask Harley how often I miss."

"And bat? If Zoe's ever kidnapped......people are going to die, and even you can't save everyone. And I'm no snitch. I'm not telling the police nothing. But then....you ain't the police.""

Batman has posed:
Batman sets his jaw and says coolly, "That's right. Something that should be /especially/ obvious these days."

"As for your daughter," he adds, "I will make sure she's safe. Don't make me do so in a way that will keep you from seeing her."

Batman stops himself from turning away again. He slowly extends an arm for a handshake.

"Agree to that, and we have a deal." He stares at the man's mask in the best attempt at eye contact possible.

Deadshot has posed:
"If my not seeing her means she'll be safe, I can handle not seeing her, Bat." Deadshot then shakes Batman's hand....staring into Batman's eyes. "Everything hinges on Zoe. But after this....on the surface, we're enemies. Not even your bat sidekicks know anything. Got it, Bat?"

Batman has posed:
"Of course," Batman replies. "I would expect nothing less."

He finally does turn away, stepping toward the edge of the arena roof. "Stay on the up-and-up, Lawton. Do it for her."

Then, he leaps off the arena, arms extended at his sides to glide down into the shadows of the city.

Deadshot has posed:
"Sorry bat. WHile it's still for Zoe, I'm still taking jobs." Deadshot says prolly loud enough for bat's frequency hearing to hear, but then deadshot rappels away himself. He's definitely going to keep himself scarce for a while. but there's something he wants to take a look at first......
