Laughing at Physics
Date of Scene: 18 August 2019
Location: Central Park, Manhattan
Synopsis: Rift and Nadia Pym meet again, discuss gross violations of the laws of physics and ninjas, then have plans to keep in touch.
Cast of Characters: Rift, Wasp (Pym)

Rift has posed:
Rift portals into her usual spot in the corner of Central Park as she steps out, hmmmming softly. She walks towards a pine tree, still glowing, and starts to walk right up the side of its trunk like it's laying on the ground. Circling to dodge the branches sticking out. She's just idly walking up the trunk, smiling faintly.

Wasp (Pym) has posed:
Nadia Pym loves the park. The open air, the plant life and also the plentiful escape routes. All of which make it an excellent place to sit and study. Of course with her recent troubles with Russian mercenaries and suspicious attempts at recruitment by a nefarious organization she's having to be a lot more careful than normal.

An out of the way bench with good lines of sight. Quiet enough she can hear anyone creeping up behind her. The only sound coming from her bench is the frantic scribbling of pencil on paper as she adds to a rather complex equation.

Rift has posed:
Rift got to the to pand starts walking down. Then she sees a familiar face. She then kicks off the tree, floating in your general direction, and then while hovering over you - slowly starts to fall and soon enogh she's sitton on the bench next to you. "Hello again," she states, smiling softly. Having an eerie red-glowing girl fall out of the sky next to you with barely a sign might be unnerving.

Wasp (Pym) has posed:
"Oh... hi!" Nadia responds, her head tilting just enough to see Rift out of the corner of her eye. "I remember you. We stopped a crime together... there isn't something happening now is there?" She frowns. Listens. "I can't hear sirens anyway. Which is good because I'm working on something and I'm super close to figuring out.... yeah that looks right. The numbers seem more elegant this way."

Rift has posed:
Rift smiles. "Yeah. I'm Rift." She stretches as she looks at you. "What are you working on?" she asks. "I'm curious." She hmmmmmms softly. "But if you don't want me to see, I can keep my nose out of things."

Wasp (Pym) has posed:
"Oh this isn't really anything important it's just," Nadia starts, frowns and then stops and looks up at Rift. "Well it's complicated but I'm working on some formulae to describe the way space and time bend while shifting into the microverse. It's really theoretical at this point. I can't really afford a facility to make the equipment to prove any of it in..."

Rift has posed:
Rift smiles softly. "Would a physical demonstration of a spatial rift help your research? I've been studying such things in college. Mostly because... this." She gestures and a portal tears open right on front of the bench. Looking through it, one can see... the Empire State Building's mast. "... don't go through there unless you can fly." She smiles faintly.

Wasp (Pym) has posed:
Nadia Pym bites her lip for a moment. "Well it wouldn't hurt I guess. Just distract me for a while," she laughs. "It's probably the wrong type of tear in reality. See the type of work I've been doing is based around shrinking so small that you leave this universe and pop into another one entirely." She switches to a brand new sheet of paper and begins rapidly making notes on Rifts portal. "I can fly, for the record. Well I have wings I built at least. Same difference really. I can also avoid reaching terminal velocity with creative use of size changing."

Rift has posed:
Rift nods. "That's good..." she muses softly. "I probably shouldn't keep it open for long - it's kinda sticking out like a sore thumb in midair." She lgances in the direction of the Empire State Building and can see the tiny red dot in the air. "That'd be cool to expereince. What's the Microverse like?"

Wasp (Pym) has posed:
"Yeah I can't imagine that your ability operates without a great strain on your body either? Presumably needs an extreme calorie intake," Nadia muses, still making notes. A mix of numbers and short-hand Russian characters. "The Microverse isn't somewhere I've been very often... It's really /really/ dangerous to go there. It's uhm what is the word.. trippy? None of the rules you think should apply do. And you're not even yourself anymore. Not really anyway. You function like a sentient sub-atomic particle. I tried make some recordings but the data got completely corrupted in the return trip."

Rift has posed:
Rift nods. "Yes... I eat triple what a normal preson does." She then ponders. "That's... I'm having a hard time trying to fathom what you said. OF course, I can tell physics to shove it. Ever wnated to feel weightless? Or to see how fun it'd be to jump around like on the moon? I'm your gal."

Wasp (Pym) has posed:
"I have some military surplus ration packs in my pocket if you're hungry," Nadia offers, reaching into the pocket of her jeans and pulling out a Russian MRE pack that shouldn't by any rights have fit inside. "They are however /terrible/. Nutrionally very good just. Bleh. No time taken to make them taste nice."

She shifts on the bench and tucks her leg underneath herself in a way that requires a great degree of flexibility or a tolerance for discomfort. "I simulated zero G once. Shrank myself down and built a little mechanical sled that would replicate the thing they do with planes. To teach astronauts." She mimes a plane diving steeply with her hand. "The Microverse is hard to explain. I don't even know if the human mind can process it properly. We exist in four dimensions with length, breadth and height plus time. But there those concepts don't always apply and when they do it's not in the same way. You could leave this world for a second and die of old age there. Or blink through for a few moments subjectively and come back to find it's a hundred years from now."

Rift has posed:
Rift shrugs. "I'm not picky." She tears it open and starts eating it. "Not bad. Needs a bit of salt." She shrugs as she keeps eating. "Yeah - I think I'm in enough trouble with the god of physics with defying gravity and tearing open portals." The portal closes right after a rather confused bird flies through it. "Maybe we can work together on your theory. Sounds like fun."

Wasp (Pym) has posed:
Nadia Pym giggles. "Well sure just... you're not secretly working with an evil group are you?" she wonders. "I think an evil ninja group tried to recruit me recently. So if you're working with them.... The answer is still no. That's why I'm studying in the park now and not the library. It also makes it harder for the Russian mercenary groups to find me but uhm... that's another rather long story."

Rift has posed:
Rift smiles. "No, I'm not part of a evil group - of course, if I really was I'd be lying. But I'm not." She shrugs. "... so... you're being recruited by ninjas? That's so strange." She shrugs, clicking her tongue. "Well... if you ever need a quick getaway, you can call me and I'll be there as soon as possible. I'm very fast and I can drop you several miles away with a moment's notice. I can't offer you sanctuary without asking permission, though." She tears a portal open again, this one showing a forest. "I'll see you around." She hands you a small card with her number on it as she goes to step through the portal, turning from the under side to see if you want to say something.

Wasp (Pym) has posed:
"I /think/ they're ninja anyway. Working hypothesis. Life since I moved to America has been very... different to how I imagined it," Nadia offers as she tucks the card in her pocket and then scribbles a number onto the edge of the pad of paper. Then tears that bit off. "Here's my number so you know who is calling. But no need to worry about being asked for a rescue." She glances around and with an impish grin adds "I'm secretly a trained covert operative who gave herself super powers. Those ninja won't know what hit them if they try anything."

Rift has posed:
Rift nods. "That's so cool!" she chirps. "I'm a mutant. But anyway... time to go." She then takes the paper, tucking it away, and then closes the portal behind her. Nice girl, she thinks to herself as she starts flying towards Xavier's.
