Profile

Son of a third-generation immigrant family from Italy, Carlo grew up in Brooklyn, intent on getting his chunk of the American dream. Finding school easy, Carlo graduated from high school and applied for a position at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Graduating in 4 years, he was commissioned as an officer in the US Navy and was deployed to the Naval Computer and Telecommuncations Station in Naples, Italy for two years, re-enlisted, got one more year in Italy, and one year at a NATO base in Geilenkirchen, Germany.

Choosing to not re-enlist, Carlo took his degree in Computer Science and the money saved up from his years in the military and bought a small three-story building in Brooklyn. Then, he opened a wood and coal-fired pizza place in the front, serving darn good pizza at awesome prices. Who he meets in his day-to-day life? Who's to say. If they're famous, though, he might ask for an autographed 8x10 to go on his Wall of Fame.

Description:

The man you see stands an inch shorter than six feet, appearing young, fit and most likely in his late twenties. Warm brown eyes that are almost constantly in motion are perched just above strong cheekbones with a mouth that can rarely be found in anything but a wide, welcoming smile. Brown hair is shaggy and straight, occasionally cut, with bangs threatening to fall over his eyes if he's not careful, requiring him to brush them aside or, while working, tie a bandanna around his forehead to keep them out of the way. He stands at a sizeable 5'11" or so in bare feet, but what he doesn't have in height he certainly makes up for in conditioning. Most men his age don't normally have a six pack, but he does, and the interesting thing about him is that he isn't one of those steroid-fueled lunks who strives to lift more than a small SUV in weight. His musculature is compact and firm - a gymnast's body with a truckload of motivation.

His clothing isn't really anything special. It's certainly not the latest fashion, but it seems casual and comfortable. He's sporting a mint-green T-Shirt that has a spray-paint wildstyle graffiti tag in a riot of colors with the tagline 'Bombing Science' in black text below. In addition to a slightly faded pair of blue Jeans. The only real items of interest in his wardrobe are the brown leather jacket that would close across the chest with a zipper, lined with a soft velvet and a backpack that rattles curiously as he moves. Each is festooned with various patches and pins, a small chain woven into the straps of his backpack for aesthetics. Carlo's attire is finished off with a simple pair of black harness boots that are in fairly nice condition. He's not sporting any jewelry but does have a stainless steel pocketwatch and chain dangling from his beltloop, the watch tucked into his right pocket, and a lock-back pocketknife tucked into his left.

History

History:

Born on 01 April, 2001, Carlo Nerio Paccioretti was the second son from a third-generation immigrant family that called Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn home. His parents were blue-collar workers, spending days working and nights spending time with their family, teaching, and learning about the day. Dad was an electrician, while mom taught at one of the local schools. They were hard workers and always wanted more for their sons - telling them that College was a path to being independent. At the time, this was classic Old Brooklyn, and this let Carlo grow up with the neighborhood as his babysitter. This meant that he learned each bodega, subway entrance, and alleyway as he grew up, getting known around the neigborhood.

He attended PS32 for elementary school before being moved to the BASIS Independent Brooklyn school on a scholarship thanks to his mother knowing the right people to press and, to his credit, he did well in classes, getting mostly A's through junior high school and high school. Free time was spent in the kitchen with his mother learning to cook, spending time in the neighborhood with friends, or just getting some exercise playing Rugby at the New York Rugby Club. This last thing got him some interest from some schools and he started applying for scholarships for college, since getting that would be the key to capturing the American dream.

One of the scholarships Carlo put in for was an application to the US Military Academy - any of them - and with help from his mother, his friends, and his local Congressman, his application was passed to the right people and he was offered a position at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. With a total of 1500 students accepted yearly, Carlo accepted and was soon admitted and working his way through classes. His Rugby background translated to a secondary position as a Tight End, playing a few posessions at the 2019 Liberty Bowl before studies pushed him to only play on the practice team. Carlo graduated in 2022 with a degree in Information Technology with a minor in General Science and was deployed to Italy.

The US Military, once you get a couple of years in, allows you the option to re-enlist. Carlo was happy in Italy and decided to go ahead and do that, and even tried out for the navy seal at the end of his third year. Sadly, an injury during BUDS when a landing craft landed on and hyperextended his right knee washed him out of SEALS training and had him end his tenure in the Navy from behind a desk in Germany, listening to chatter from Russia and translating it to German and English for various alphabet agencies on either side of the world. Honorably discharged, Carlo returned to the US with his savings and moved back to the only home he knew - Brooklyn. There, he purchased a warehouse that was scheduled to be turned into apartments, remodeled it, and turned it into a pizza joint that specialized in coal and wood-fired pizzas, all hand made by him on a daily basis. Now, in the middle of Brooklyn, Carlo is looking forward to retirement at 27, making pizzas, and being the kind of guy that helped kids like him in the neigborhood get on the straight and narrow.

Personality

Personality:

Carlo is a military man who has kind of worn down around the edges, and has been kicked a few times. He can be very businesslike when necessary, but can let his hair down and have fun in the right crowd. He is quiet and reserved, more contemplative, thinking before he speaks, often toying with a tool or a bit of metal to keep his hands busy while he formulates the right things to say. People are more often given a wide berth and are held at arm's length until it is known that they can be trusted with any form of loyalty and then, once that happens, Carlo can be a strong ally and a wonderful friend. He has an eye for beauty and composition and finds it in the strangest places. Even during the his deployments, beauty could be found everywhere. Flowers growing in an upturned helmet or the joy felt when a family was reunited, that was enough for a photograph or two and a smile. In another life he could have been a painter or a sculptor.

Mutants don't worry Carlo much - they eat Pizza too, and he's got good insurance in case the business or building gets damaged in a fight - but those who want them segregated into ghettos aren't the types of people that he'd want to associate with. If this becomes known, those people are politely and quickly shuffled off to the perimeter of his social circle before contact is cut off completely.

Skills

Cooking:
You don't run a good pizza restaurant without being able to do this. Carlo can cook the hell out of a pizza, sear a steak, or make Italian food you'd slap someone to get more of.

Firearms:
Carlo is an expert marksman. He can shoot rifles, shotguns, pistols, and some small automatic weapons accurately and keep them maintained.

Hand-To-Hand:
Carlo knows how to fight. It's not elegant or pretty, but his motto of 'end the fight before I get hurt' has served him well over the years. Sure, he may take a punch or two, and the fight may not exactly be fair, but even if he loses, you'll know you were in a fight and might be worse off than he was. Note: Superheroes that can take punches exempt from this offer.

Linguistics:
Carlo is a trained linguist for the US Naval Academy. He can speak, read, and write English, German, Russian, and Italian fluently. Just like his mother wanted.

Military Trained:
A graduate of the US Naval Academy and a Lieutenant in the US Navy, Carlo went through Basic training and all the other requisite training for that rank. He did try out for the SEALS, but didn't make it through due to injury.

Pilot:
Never know when you need to fly something, so Carlo got his hours in. Part of his military training was with jets, so he has a pilot's license. He could get a job as an airline pilot easily, but he'd rather make pizza.

Repair:

Self Sufficiency is Carlo's big thing. He got himself into this position and, if there's a way for him to get out of it, he'll figure it out. This translates to fixing things that are broken. Pizza Ovens, A/C Units, Cars, lamps, and other stuff, he's got a set of tools in the back room that help him build and repair anything he might need to, and contacts with local guys who can fix the stuff he can't.

Resources

1968 Impala Convertible:
Classy car in metallic purple with a white interior. It's big and gets 11 miles to the gallon, but it's comfortable, paid for, and if you put your foot down, it'll leave a slick of rubber for three blocks thanks to headers and a supercharger.

Building In Brooklyn:
One of the things Carlo purchased with some of his stock windfall was a building in Brooklyn in an area that was up-and-coming. Several thousand dollars later and he had a place that he could do anything with in the heart of Brooklyn so he opened a pizza shop on the bottom floor and lives on the top with his workshop and garage in the back of the first floor.

Government Contacts:
You don't spend four years in military school without meeting a few poeple and becoming known. Carlo knows a few people he can call to get information on things of a military nature. Why he'd need to do this? Who knows? The fact is he can.

Guns, Guns, Guns:
Carlo fully supports his second amendment rights and has a small arsenal in a heavily secured room on the third floor of his building. No rocket launchers or Matrix Arsenal, of course, but he does have a several pistols, rifles, shotguns, and one Kriss Vector with enough ammuntion for it all.

Gym:
A corner of Carlo's workshop has a small air-conditioned gym set up inside an enclosure to keep in the cool and keep out the dust. It's maybe 20x20, with a few workout machines, free weights and some heavy bags to keep his skill up in punching things.

Pizza Shop:
Carlo's Pizza is located on the bottom floor of a three story warehouse in Brooklyn. It's pretty good pizza and brings in enough to pay the bills and put a few bucks away for a rainy day.

Savings Account:
A bachelor in the Military meant that the vast majority of his money went into his investment account, and some lucky stock picks has made his savings grow considerably. He's not a millionaire, but he definitely has money and can go without working for a few years if he wants. He doesn't show his wealth, though.

Workshop:

You never know when you need a tool or a place to fix things, so Carlo has tools for woodworking and mechanical work available in his workshop. The back half of the first floor of his warehouse, it's set up with everything a guy might need if he wanted to build or repair anything mechanical or wooden.

Weaknesses

Bad Knee:
An injury from his first and only attempt to be a Navy Seal, Carlo had a log dropped on his leg during training that hyperextended his knee. It hurts sometimes in cold weather and makes it hard to run, but he gets by.

Normal Human:

Carlo is Normal. Normal as Normal can be. He can't fly, shoot laser beams out of his eyes, regenerate injury at lightning speed, or take a punch that would split an aircraft carrier in half.
