Description:

The man standing before you is tall, around 6 feet tall, and slim, around 175 lbs. It is obvious he is athletic, moving with a grace of a martial artist, barely making a sound as he moves. His hair is blonde-reddish in colour, and he is far from clean shaven, showing several days of scruffy growth. Brown eyes, and unkempt hair finishes the ensemble.

A black overcoat, deep blue coloured shirt, dark blue tie, and black pants finish off his look. They are all relatively expensive in appearance, but look well worn. His shirt collar is unbuttoned, and the tie is loose around his neck. His black shoes are highly polished, but scuffed from use. For those with keen vision, something is hidden beneath his coat. Something long...and sharp.

History

History:

Connor Macleod of the Clan Macleod was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan off the shores of Loch Shiel in what would become known as the Highlands of Scotland. Raised as a normal warrior and son of Clan Macleod, kin to the Clan Chieften Angus, he was stabbed in 1536 during a battle with Clan Frasier by the Immortal known as the Kurgan. Slowly, over the course of a few days, Connor Macleod died, sheding his old life, and was reborn as an Immortal.

His village rejected him, stoning him and forcing him into exile, claiming he was in league with evil spirits and Satan/Lucifer. Connor went on the marry a woman from another village named Heather Macdonald, and met his first mentor, Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez. Ramírez taught him the way of the immortal, and the way of the sword.

One night while Connor was away, the Kurgan discovered Macleod's home. He fought Ramírez and killed him, beheading him and taking his Quickening, and then discovered Heather... Connor returned shortly after that, and discovered the Kurgan gone, and Ramírez dead. Taking his sword, and mourning his friend and mentor, he stayed with Heather until she passed on.

Over the course of centuries, Macleod travelled all over the world, becoming one of the finest swordsmen and martial artists the world has ever seen. A sad, kind, and wise soul, he was a soldier for light, defending others, learning and teaching, and playing the "Game". Any time he took another immortal's Quickening, it was always in self defense.

Using his personal knowledge and experience of history, having lived it, he opened an Antiques dealership in New York. It was here where he faced the Kurgan, in 1983, and defeated him. However, defeating is not the same as killing. Was the Kurgan's Quickening taken that day? Or did he somehow escape? Connor isn't telling.

Since then, he has maintained his guise as Russell Nash, a connoisseur of antiques, mystical artifacts, lost and forbidden knowledge, and history. He has also taken on a student or three over the course of the last few decades, and many newly born Immortals that follow the light seek him out as a potential mentor. The myth and legend of "The Highlander". Whether he helps them or not is left to chance and if they bring a "bonnie" Scotch...

Personality

Personality:

Connor Macleod was once a passionate, difficult youth who was undisciplined, unruly, chaotic, rude, arrogant and difficult. As kin to the Chieften, he was afforded privileges of nobility, and used them to full advantage. Then he faced his first REAL battle...and lost. Stabbed through the stomach by the Kurgan, Connor Macleod learned an awful lesson that day. A lesson in humility as he slowly died.

When he was resurrected and breathed once again, he learned another lesson. A lesson of suspicion, hatred, anger, fear and loathing. Stoned and betrayed by the ones he loved, he was banished from his village. This taught him stealth, control, to hide his gifts, and to be careful of trusting anyone. Then, he met Heather, and after that, his mentor and teacher.

Connor learned a lot from Ramirez. Discipline. Strength. Honor. Loyalty. Self-sacrifice. Friendship. Humor. Wisdom. He learned from his mentor well. Now, he has that same biting wit and dark sense of humour that his mentor once had.

On his worldly travels after his loss of Heather and Ramirez, Connor now believes in keeping the memories of the past by learning history and remembering those who came bfore. He truly feels he is a teacher. A philosopher. A mentor. A Sensei to those that need it, especially those who REALLY need it. Mostly other, young immortals.

Connor only fights in self-defense, and follows a few strict codes of honor. Bushido. Samurai. Connor is a warrior. A monk. Serenity personified. Passion behind a wall of glacial calm. Although usually in complete control of his emotions, there are times when his darker nature reveals itself, and heaven help those that are the target of his anger. This is usually quickly snuffed out, however, and his control returns.

Connor is a man of honour. Of wisdom. Of philosophy and art. Of serenity and with a code of ethics. He has his own code, and will follow that code religiously and with out wavering behond a wall of steel.

Abilities

Illusions:
There are rumours, myths and legends, of an ancient Asian Immortal Sorceror able to cast illusions and that Connor Macleod was once a student of his. Although this is only legend, it is said that another student of this Sorceror was killed by an Immortal, and Connor Macleod, in a fit of justice for his old Sensei, took that Immortals head. The legend is that Macleod gained that ability when he took that Immortal's Quickening...

This allows Connor to be able to shape illusions around himself and his environment, changing things to a normal person's perception. Shapes and objects appear or disappear. Shadows envelop the target, or light illuminates the area. Sounds, smells, tastes, images of others, all become part of the environment, all at the whim of Connor's wishes.

Anyone with supernatural senses strong enough can see through these illusions, although they are very strong. Connor is far from as skilled at this ability as his former Sensei, and he rarely, if ever, uses this.

This is by consent only, unless for "scene setting". Connor has a code of honor that usually prevents him from using this ability.

Immortality:
Connor Macleod is an immortal. A human being who came to a violent end, and was somehow reborn into a man who can potentially live forever. Connor can be stabbed, poisoned, shot, blown up, killed, and will always revive within miuntes, hours, or days, depending on how significant the injury. Connor can heal from any wound. Minor wounds take seconds to heal.

Large cuts or bullet wounds take minutes to heal. Stabbed through the heart or other vital organs, take several minutes to hours, depending on how severe. Decapitaions take hours to regenerate. All except for one...if Connor is beheaded, it is over. His "Quickening" or "life essence" transfers to the nearest Immortal (or into the ether if there is none close by) and he dies. Permanently.

Quickening:

Connor Macleod is a very old immortal. It is rumoured that he has taken the lives and essence of over 300 Immortals in the game, making him one of the most powerful Immortals in history.

When one Immortal slays another and absorbs their essence, he gains the skills, knowledge, abilities, talents and powers of that Immortal (including the abilities of those that Immortal has slain) although it is an extremely traumatic and difficult experience. This leaves the victor exhausted and vulnerable in the moment of absorption of the Quickening.

This "essence" or "Quickening" gives Connor several abilities beyond a normal man. Healing is discussed in the Immortality trait, but there are also other gifts.

Connor can survive for longer periods of time than normal humans in hostile environments. In a vacuum, he can last several minutes before slipping into a comatose state, unlike a normal person. He can breath under water, and in other hostile environments, as long as there is some oxygen present. He has maximum human potential agility, strength, stamina and endurance.

Lastly, Connor, like all Immortals, can sense when another Immortal is close, usually, within a few hundred feet. Instinctively, he can also sense holy ground when nearby, no matter the religion.

Skills

Blend:
Connor Macleod has traveled all over the world, learning about people, places, history and culture. Most of the places he has been to he has been able to learn to blend into the background, as though he wasn't there.

He is able to wear the right clothing, move the right way, speak well in several languages without an accent, and even knows about religion and culture issues to avoid. That has helped him survive all these years.

In the city, he knows the back alleys, the dark corners, and the quick escapes. He knows the underworld of most major centres, the people that makes these places stay hidden, and how to get through them...or around them. Many people in these places owe him something, so he uses that to his advantage.

Body Language:
Connor is very adept at watching others, and knowing what they are thinking or what they are going to do next. This makes him an incredibly effective combatant and adversary. He understands sign languages, non-verbal (body language), morse code, and others. He can read a person's intent, understand emotions, even when hidden, and knows with an almost sixth sense, when someone is going to "fight or flight". He does this by simply watching "twitch" response, muscle movements, and emotional response on their face and behaviour. It allows him to predict what the person is going to do, and block or attack.

Forgery:
There are a few levels to this skill. Connor is skilled in detecting forgeries, and fake documents, antiques, artifacts, and items with the eye of a master criminal with over 500 years experience. He is also exceptionally skilled, perhaps the best in the world, at creating forgeries - especially identities and documentation, including getting through government "red tape" to get these forgeries approved, as if they were actual true versions of the document. Birth certificates, driver's licenses, passports, currency...he can do it, and always stays up-to-date with the latest technology.

Grandmaster Swordsman:
Connor is a genius prodigy with the sword, specifically a katana or a claymore. However, he is not limited to just these two swords, as he has trained with masters and grandmasters in all forms of swords. When a sword is in his hand, Connor is nigh unstopable. He is one of the greatest swordsmen in the United Heroes Universe.

One handed, or two handed, Connor is lightning fast, incredibly precognitive, instinctive, and fluid, a literal wizard with a blade. Connor was sought out by one of the greatest swordsmen of the last 2500 years to teach, as Ramirez sensed Connor's potential greatness, that is how good he is.

Connor is almost superhuman in his adaptive ability to match a fellow swordsman, even with techniques he has never faced before. Connor has the unique ability to adapt to any form, and come up with ways to counter it. He has taught some of the greatest swordsmen and women of the last 500 years, and even they marvel at his abilities.

Legend has it that Connor has even deflected bullets out of the air with his sword, although that is more myth than reality. He can use his observation skills and senses to predict when someone would fire a gun, or attack with a bow and arrow, and so could potential deflect arrows or even bullets if he was lucky. One on one, Connor is unmatched with a sword.

History:
Connor has personally witnessed history for the last 500 years, playing a part in several different significant historical events. He can speak to what has happened in "recent" history, as though he was there because, he probably was. Connor has a unique prespective on what has happened, and is a walking, talking history book.

Languages:
Connor is over 500 years old, and has travelled to every corner of the planet, learning culture, history, traditions, and languages. Connor therefore can speak, read and write several languages, including Ancient Egyptian, Swahili, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Korean, Vietnamese, Arabic, Italian, Spanish, several Native American dialects, German, French, Punjabi, Indian, and a few others.

Martial Arts:
Although not as skilled at hand to hand combat as he is with a sword, Connor is over 500 years old, and has learned self defense and martial arts from many Masters and Grandmasters over the centuries. Although not on the level of the world's greatest martial artists, such as Batman, Shiva, or Richard Dragon, he could hold his own with the best of the best. He has mastered several techniques and styles, from Kung Fu to Bushido, Akido, and Karate, making him a formidable hand-to-hand combatant.

Mysticism:
Connor has traveled far and wide, and seen a lot of things in this world. Although he is far from being an expert, like Madame Xanadu, Constantine, or Merlin, you don't meddle in a ton of affairs not your own, without noticing a few things. He is familiar with mystic lore, knows about witches, the occult, monsters, demons, vampires, supernatural creatures, Hunters, Hunted, Watchers, super heroes, Gods, other dimensions, ghosts, etc. Connor also has learned a few spells, here and there, as a journeyman, but is generally terrible at magic. He knows just enough to get himself in trouble...or out of it as the need arises.

Sensei:
Although he rarely takes on students, and those usually Immortals new to the "Game", Connor Macleod has discovered he is a pretty good teacher and mentor. He usually channels his former teacher, mentor and friend, Ramirez when he teaches. This allows him to use dark humor and wit to get points of wisdom and teacher points across.

Weapon Master:

Connor is a master with a myriad set of weapons. He has learned, over 500 years of training, how to master hundreds of weapons, from a knife, to a spear, a falchion to a lance, bows, crossbows, tomahawk, axes, slings, etc. He can use all of these ancient weapons easily, and without difficulty, as though born to them. He has even become quite skilled in the use of firearms, from small arms to automatic weapons, just in case. They are distasteful to use, and he never carries one, but it is better the be prepared than be dead.

Acquaintances:
Connor Macleod has spent the last five centuries traveling the world, meeting new and interesting people, and learning new and interesting things, be it culture, history, tradition, and the best thing of all...meeting people. Many of the people he has met over the years are long gone now, but a few are immortal and can be considered "acqaintances". If you are an immortal, you have probably met, or at least heard of, the Highlander. Some might even be considered friends...now in the last 50 years or so, Connor has a lot of people he knows in all walks of life, from military and government of many different nations, to normal, everyday people he has helped, or spoken to.

Ancient Weapons:
Connor has an incredible collection of ancient weapons, mystical and benign, that he has collected over the course of centuries. Connor has an eye for antnques, yes, but where he really shines is in weapons and armor acquisitions. Some weapons and armor he has collected are from before the time of Christ, and through the ages. It is even rumoured that he has a few mystical weapons and armor stashed away, for emergencies. Although he prefers swords, he has collected everything from knives, maces, daggers, bows, shields and armor rumoured to have been worn by Knights of the Roundtable, and many others.

Antique Collector:
Connor has an incredible collection of antiques and artifacts, mystical and benign, that he has collected over the course of centuries. Connor has an eye for unique items, and is buying new and lost items wherever he travels. Connor is able to distinguish if an item is real or fake and antique or just old, mystical and benign, valuable or not so valuable. He has a trained eye for these things.

Over the centuries he has bought and sold antiques through his registered business, invested in stocks and new, small businesses (including companies like Apple, Microsoft and IBM), and even expeditions for natural resources early in the 20th century which has made him a large fortune. Russell Nash and now "Thomas Cook" or Connor Macleod was/is a very rich individual, although not at Lex Luthor or Bruce Wayne levels, he is very comfortable, approaching Billionaire status.

Identities:
Connor Macleod has several identities he uses when travelling or when acquiring new property or moving his resources to a new person after the old one has "passed on". His previous identity was "Russell Nash", but he left that one behind in the 1980s after the "Incident in New York" with the Kurgan. Currently he is "Thomas Cook", the heir to the Macleod fortune, an easy identity to slip into and out of, as required. These identities pass thorough law enforcement scrutiny, and are nigh-undetectable as fake. After all, he has been doing this sort of thing for 5 centuries.

Masamune Sword:
When Connor first met Ramirez in Scotland in 1541, Ramirez carried with him a unique katana. According to Ramirez, Masamune, a "nobleman and a genius" created his ivory-handled katana for him in 593 BC and gifted to Ramirez. It was created before the secrets of modern metallurgy and was made in secret.

This sword is always razor sharp, doesn't require sharpening, is almost indestructible, and was never nicked or damaged in battle. It is not magical, and can be damaged by adamantium or vibranium enhanced weapons. It is not made of adamantium. But it was incredibly dense and strong. It can still be destroyed under the right circumstances, but is tougher than modern blades, by far. It's a kind of magic.

Property:

Connor Macleod has several properties throughout the world, bought for by money he has earned through legitimate means over the course of centuries. There is a quaint antique shop in New York. Property in Vancouver, Rome, Paris, London, Edinburgh, Sorento, St. Petersburgh, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Geneva, and a few smaller properties as well. THese are all accessible by him, with documents proving his ownership in a swiss secure bank vault. Many of these he hasn't visited in decades, but he has people who take care of them.

Weaknesses

Code of Honor:
Connor Macleod was raised in the Highlands of Scotland, kin to the Chief, and in line as well. Scottish nobility. He was taught how to act (although he was a bit...unruly) by them and his mentor and brother, Ramirez. He was a gentleman, a warrior who had a code of honor. Fight with honor, be chivalrous (to a point) and never cheat, lie and steal. Not "lawful stupid" of course, but fair and with honor.

Although he has bent the rules a bit over the centuries, he has always maintained a code. Never strike from concealment. Always face your opponent one on one. Always finish the fight with honor and conviction. Never use firearms or other devices to have an unfair advantage. Fight well and win. This will always get you in trouble when your adversary doesn't play by "the rules".

Decapitation:
Now, this is a normal weakness for 99.999 percent of all beings on the planet, but considering that Connor is Immortal, and cannot be permanently harmed in any way, this is a big target. If Connor's head comes off, the game is over, and his essence, his "Quickening" goes to the closest immortal, or to the ether, forver. This is the only way he can be forever killed, so he tends to want to keep his head on his shoulders.

Infamy:
Throughout the Immortal sphere, there is a hushed whisper of the Highlander. A great immortal, who has defeated anyone who has ever fought him, even some of the biggest, baddest immortals that are in existence. It is said that taking his head will net one of the greatest Quickenings there have ever been, and so, he becomes a target for those immortals trying to make a name for themselves. This can be tiring and exhausting, fending off challenges like this, so Connor tries to avoid the fight...but somehow, it always finds him.

Old:
To put it bluntly, Connor is old. His family - long dead. Well, except for one or two notable exceptions. His friends - gone. Many of the skills and talents he had when a young man - useless or so out-of-practice, he wouldn't know where to start.

His accent is - strange. His maneurisms - wierd. Everything about him screams anachronism and out of a different time. This makes it difficult to fit in in most places, and most of the time now, he doesn't even try. This can create a lonely existence sometimes, and he misses the Highlands of Scotland every day.

Ptsd:
Connor has a lot of things in his background that are always right there, in his memories, fighting to get out. These flashes can be sometimes painful and debilitating, sending him into a fit of depression and darkness. Connor is a good soul, but the years of killing, the haunted background of losing his best friend and mentor to the Kurgan, the loss of the loves of his life, and the dark days upon the world weigh heavily on his soul. Sometimes, he just wants it all to end...heaven forbid a bad guy immortal finds him on one of those days.

Watchers:
Yes, Connor knows they exist. He has even met a few, although they did not know that he knew who they were. He allows them their shadow walking, covert observation, and moves on with his life. He has only told one or two other immortals about these men and women who watch, just in case. They...unnerve him, and he fears they day when they use their skills and talents to decide to eliminate immortals and get involved in "The Game". If that day comes, he is ready...he hopes.

Way of the Immortal:

The Way of the Immortal has been passed down, since the dawn of time, from one Immortal to another. All...well, most, Immortals live by a strict code of "honor" and behaviour. If any were to break this code, they would be hunted by all Immortals and executed, without remorse, mercy, and by any means necessary. This has rarely happened, and certainly, not in the last thousand or more years. It is so rare, that no one remembers the last Immortal who broke these sacred covenents. As Ramirez taught Connor, these are all quotes.

*No Immortal may fight on Holy Ground, no matter who regards it as Holy.

*Immortal combat is one on one only - no outside interference.

*Mortals must not learn about Immortals - if you are killed, you move on.

*When only a few are left, all Immortals will feel drawn to a distant land, to fight for the Prize - this is the time of the Gathering.

*In the end, there can be only one - the last one will receive all the power of all the Immortals who ever lived.
