Profile

The last Winter Guardian and perhaps the final Crimson Dynamo. News that she'd been reassigned to protect the Russian Ambassador to America has been met with more than a few rumors that she's fallen out of favor with the Kremlin. It's not the first time the Dynamo has been on American soil of course, but the first time to do so legally for sure.

Standing at five foot eight and built along decidedly slender lines, Galina Nemirovsky is easy to miss in a crowd at first glance. Rich brown hair left just long enough to tie up in a lazy ponytail, hidden under a beat up dark green ball cap. Her eyes hidden behind a scratched up pair of knock off wayfarers, though the sharp eyed might spy a little scar tissue creeping up into her left brow. A threadbare grey hoody, and a ratty old Russian army coat really round out the look.

The fun stuff then is in the details. She holds herself upright, chin lifted in an example of all but perfect posture. Baggy camo pants are hardly proof of much, but that broad, stiff rigger's belt is decidedly military in nature. So too are those care worn leather boots, 550 cord laces are sort of a give away too. Her left hand might be mistaken as being gloved from a distance, but up close it's purely mechanical nature becomes clear. Decorated with sharpie cyrillic across the back of her hand.

History

Galina was the daughter of Tanya and Dima Nemirovsky, born in Mordinov in the summer of 96'. Dima would rise to the rank of Captain with the Russian army, participating in the invasion of Afghanistan and some of the first Chechen war. This was sufficient to secure Galina entry into the prestigious Moscow M.V Frunze Military academy at just eight years old, gaining early recognition as a top performing student. Upon graduation she bypassed officer candidate school to seek entrance into Russia's struggling paratrooper program. There she passed selection and graduated as third of her class before joining the 76th Guards Air Assault Division.

There she participated in the a series of clashes in the Balkans as well as Africa. After her promotion to Junior Sergeant she was scouted by the Federal Dynamo program, and invited for selection. By 2019 she'd graduated from selection and been placed on reserve to await for the retirement or death of the, which would arrive in 2020. In April of 2020 she became the new Crimson Dynamo, and the first woman to win the honor.

The Winter Guard has always had a high casualty rate, and it was expensive to keep it fully staffed. Rivalries between the Russian army, Russian state security and private interests had all robbed the Winter Guard of manpower and funding, until Galina was the last one standing. With funding tight, she fell to scavenging retired armor and industrial machinery to keep her Dynamo armor up to strength.

By 2024 the funding had all but dried up. It would also be her busiest and bloodiest year, with more than four hundred sorties against a wide array of threats to the Moscow area. Fighting under strength and heavily fatigued, she routinely took the field injured and in some cases armed only with a rifle and foul language. It was enough to get her a chest full of medals, but the funding situation did not improve.

The Army promised funding for overseas sorties, and so the Dynamo went abroad. Only partially operational she sortied in Africa, resulting in the loss of her left eye and left arm. Then came another round in the Balkans, which mangled her right leg and nearly resulted in her bleeding out. It would be her medical care that ended up soaking up the vast majority of funding she'd secured, and it would take nearly a year before she was able to put the armor on again.

The Russian diplomatic security service offered her a contract to protect the Russian ambassadors in America, which would provide sufficient funds to completely repair her armor and get her into the field again.

Personality

As the Dynamo, Tenacious, Fearless, Merciless are the words thrown around. In Uniform, that'd be: Professional, diplomatic and stubborn. Removed from the obligations of uniforms and armor, at her very core is simple grim determination. Worn down by years of near constant combat on behalf of an uncaring state, the hopelessness of it all has begun to set in. The Winter Guard will never be funded like it used to be, and with the Dynamo program shut down she is likely the last one to wear the red armor. With her own rate of injury rising in time with the general dysfunction of the state, and the continual lack of funding to maintain her equipment she has begun to look for an escape from it all. Mangled, underpaid and despairing she's begun to look towards America as a possible sanctuary to continue her career as a hero.

Abilities

CRIMSON DYNAMO
The most advanced front line Dynamo Armor currently in use is the CD-33M. Standing at approximately twelve feet tall and weighing in at more than nine thousand pounds, it's also just about the biggest "armor" in use today. Tuned for durability and destructive power, the armor's capacity to take punishment is rightly legendary. A carborundum matrix alloy makes up the vast majority of it's primary armor and internal structure, overlaid with a mixture of spaced composite, ERA and scavenged depleted uranium. Proof tested against all current anti-tank weaponry and the majority of main battle tank weaponry, it requires either conventional explosives in excess of a thousand pounds or raw superhuman might to start peeling back those layers of armor. Moving all that bulk is no easy tank, it requires a mixture of Venko generators, ultra dense capacitors and a secondary power system derived from a small jet engine to get the Dynamo operating at full power. Offensive capability relies upon a vast array of bolt on conventional primarily, from High powered 30mm rotary cannon to aircraft rocket pods. The thing it's famous for of course, are those Dynamos. It's upper limits of raw electrical power generation are governered by it's ability to disperse heat, but it can generally be relied upon to churn out a few hundred megawatts for as long as two minutes before it cooks it's pilot alive. In terms of raw brute strength it can be generally relied upon to lift as much as 25 tons, albeit slowly.

The Dynamo tends to run both very hot, and very loud. It's electrical attacks require close range, and are not terribly discriminatory which can preclude it's use near friendlies. It's cooling capacity is sub-optimal, and cockpit temperatures can soar above a hundred degrees making piloting the thing without an undersuit suicidal. It's not terribly portable, nor is it terribly mobile. It's capacity for flight is marginal at best, capable of lifting the suit plus half again it's weight for maybe twenty miles, at well under a hundred miles an hour. The Dynamo may be the last hero standing, but they sure as hell were not the first to arrive either.

PROSTHETICS
Her Left arm, Left Eye and Right leg have all been lost in combat action over the years. In order to keep her in the fight Galina is fitted with the most advanced prosthetics Russia has. Her arm and Leg whilst more durable than flesh and blood, were designed to be a perfect match for strength and thus provide no advantage there. Her left eye however does grant her the benefit of an Augmented Reality overlay, and the ability to see into the infrared. The big advantage however is that her nervous system is plumbed with interfaces, allowing her to connect to her armor in a way few pilots can.

UNDERARMOR

Like a Matryoshka doll, Galina almost never dons the Dynamo armor without a suit worn beneath. The FS-317T is a fully electrically and thermally insulated suit with it's own pint sized power generator to provide for basic strength augmentation (1.5x), ballistic armor rated for use against small arms. Though flight capable it lacks an effective power source necessary for long distance flight, restricting it to distances of about twenty miles. It's own built in weapon systems consist of a forearm mounted thermal blade designed to cut through fencing, locks and light armor as well as the ability to electrify her gauntlets stun opponents. Primarily the suit relies upon conventional weaponry carried (pistols/rifles) for offensive capacity.

Skills

ARMORED HERO
Like knights of old, Galina is used to fighting in armor. She's also amassed a pretty incredible amount of combat suit time and it shows. In her various Dynamo armors she's capable of incredible feats of dexterity despite the suit's otherwise rudimentary control systems. She's also had ample opportunity to learn how power armor works, and whilst she's no engineer she's an able fabricator. Capable of repairing, replacing and augmenting whatever armor she's working with. She may not be capable of great leaps in terms of innovation, but she's more than able to provide a steady evolution of equipment based on it's field performance.

LANGUAGES
Galina speaks Russian fluently obviously, but speaks English and Mandarin more or less fluently. She's able to stumble her way through a conversation in Korean and Arabic as well, though most of her working vocabulary there tends to be military oriented for obvious reasons.

VDV

Galina is a Paratrooper with numerous firefights and a few combat drops to her name. She's a veteran soldier and an able field tactician. She can read maps, make wilderness shelters, treat wounds, and of course fight. She's comfortable with virtually every small arm in service, as well as explosives, guided missiles, and heavy military equipment. She's no pilot, but it goes without saying she's quite comfortable with parachute work of course.

Resources

ARMORY
Galina has access to a whole host of armors that have been produced for the Dynamo program over the years, including their raw technical information. These suits range from radically out of date, to nearly destroyed in combat but there are a few which are noteworthy. The legendary "Ultra Dynamo" armor proved to be a revolutionary improvement over the current equipment, but it's power source (power Wraiths) meant it was never really fieldable. The Air strike armor too was designed as a replacement for the current Dynamo armor, but buggy flight control hardware has kept it from the front lines. With some help both technical and financial, she might be able to bring something out of storage but for now it mainly just represents a treasure trove of spare parts, conventional armament and soldiering equipment.

VDV
Russian paratroopers were thrilled one of their own got into the Dynamo program, and were overjoyed when Galina became the Crimson Dynamo. She's a paratrooper Rockstar, and can rely upon her connections there to help her get her gear moved around and some of it's weaponry replaced. Outside of the armor she was able to secure a small contingent of eager troopers to help her to protect the Ambassadors, they form her personal support network professionally and socially whilst in America.

WINTER GUARDIAN

The Winter Guard has been kicking ass and taking names for more than sixty years in one form or another, and even if it's just one woman left? It may not provide much in terms of wealth, but the Guard still represents an impressive collection of archival information and political clout. The Dynamo has been Moscow's most famous defender for years now, and even caught out of bounds most are willing to at least hear her out because of that service. Members of the Russian military, and some former satellites additionally have been known to let supplies and information slip out to help the ailing Guard.

Weaknesses

BROKE
The Winter Guard Program has been all but totally defunded, and the Dynamo program has been totally defunded. What little money Galina can scrape together to keep her suit patched up comes from working as essentially a hired gun for different Russian agencies and a series of branded merchandise. Galina's paltry salary as an army sergeant mostly goes back into the suit, leaving little for herself. She can usually rely upon VDV volunteers to help keep things going, but she's been living on Russian army mess slop and gifted booze for years now. She's living on about 50 US dollars a week currently.

INJURED
Galina has suffered the loss of an eye, two traumatic amputations, had every bone in her body broken at least once and a pair of Traumatic brain injuries. Medically speaking Galina is a wreck, and whilst she's more than willing to fight through injury? She gets injured with increasing frequency and severity. She relies on a cocktail of drugs and pain killers just to get by, and the situation is not getting any better. The psychological wreckage of losing her team mates and going it alone for this long, is equally problematic and usually manifests in insomnia at the very least. Galina is rarely able to fight anywhere near her peak ability as a result, and has been medically prohibited from operating a motor vehicle for awhile now.

NO SURRENDER
The Winter Guard has never run from a fight since it's founding. In it's entire history nobody has ever retreated in the face of the enemy, which is one of the reasons it's attrition rates have always been so high. No matter how injured or how tired she is, if the calls goes Galina will sortie. She has in the past responded to calls in nothing but her uniform and armed only with an AK, and sortied in critically damaged armor without hesitation. If a fight is to be lost, she's never going to be able to walk away uninjured or with her armor undamaged. Once a fight begins she will remain, and will continue to fight until the bitter end. The result is a high rate of injury for Galina, and frequent serious damage to her armor. People may admire her for her tenacity, but the threat of a hard loss being fatal is very real.

OUTDATED
The vast majority of everything Galina has access to, and almost all the tech the Dynamo is built around is about twenty years out of date. She has no AI to help with her armor, no automated repair systems, no super science to lean back on outside the hyper dense capacitors the Dynamo is famous for. Her gear is usually bigger, bulkier and dramatically less refined than that of her peers and it makes everything more difficult. Her armor requires dramatically more down time between fights, which is significantly more labor intensive than any other suit of power armor. Her armaments are wholly conventional, and the entire thing is not terribly modular leading to a lack of adaptability in the field.

RUSSIAN

Galina is a decorated member of the Russian Army's elite paratrooper division (VDV), who's been personally honored by the Russian president on more than one occasion. The entire Dynamo program is army in origin, and she's fought in controversial wars without apology. The Russian state has played genocide games with mutants, forced the conscription of meta-humans and generally not been terribly nice. The Dynamo is often seen as an extension of Russia's military might, making her a target for those who have been with the Russian state. Her appointment to protect Russian diplomats was intended as an insult over the American "lawlessness" with it's Meta-humans. Her actions as the Dynamo and even privately are thus, tightly controlled.
