Late-night snacks
Date of Scene: 30 October 2021
Location: Kitchen - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Food and hopefully some progress
Cast of Characters: Cannonball, Kit Killovarras, Nightingale

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie had worked late at the club, even past the time the kitchen closed. Then flying home, he has worked up a bit of an appetite, he stopped at one of the all night stores, which brings Sam coming walking in the back door into the kitchen with a couple of plastic bags in hand.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Well well, another late night snacker? A particular Aardwolf can be found tonight in a rather snacky mood, having a few ingredients already out and ready and a few more in a small pot. Nothing particularly special, just a simple curry from the smell of it, though there is a pile of what looks like bugs on the counter as well.

He's wearing only his jeans, leaving the rest of his body open to be seen, which is fairly rare for the student, but stranger still are the wounds that can be seen just under his fur, visible by lines in the fur itself.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "Hey Kit" He will move to put the items down on the counter, and looks over at the young man "You ok?" He will ask, as knowing our mutual winged friends, he is letting these wounds heal like this by choice. He will start taking things from his bag as he waits for an answer.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Kit perks his ears a little and looks to Sam, then gives a little smile and nods. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just got a little carried away during training is all." he says with a smile, scratching at the back of his head as he shrugs, then goes back to cutting up some potatoes.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie had not planned on cooking, well not full fledge at least, He will move to get a the air fryer down, and says "Going to make some pizza rolls, and some fries, you want any of either?" He will ask, as he sets it up to start with the piza rolls.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Kit gives a little tilt of his head, then smiles and nods a little, "A few fries actually sound pretty good, I was trying to figure out what I was going to couple this with." he says with a chuckle.

Strange as it might seem to find a yeen in the kitchen, this actually isn't too terribly strange for the student. Given his sleeping schedule, this would probably be about his lunch time.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods a bit and says "Will do, make sure to put plenty in then. " He looks over to the other and says "What ya cooking? He does look at the bugs more curious than grossed out it seems.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
"Just just a bit of lamb korma with chickpeas and potatoes. Nothing too terribly special, really." Kit says with a little chuckle, dipping a clean spoon into the pot to give it a taste before tossing the spoon into the sink. Then he notices Sam looking at the bugs and adds, "Those aren't going into it, at least not into the pot. They're more or less just for a bit of crunch." he says with a little grin. "Locusts tend to be pretty good for that." he adds with a shrug.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and says "Have tried a few odds and ends over the years, and know you need them for as an extra bit for your diet right?" He hmms a bit and says "Mind if I ask ya something about them and your diet?"

Nightingale has posed:
It seems that the two gentlemen weren't the only ones looking for a snack. From the doorway, there is a rather ungodly growling, gnawing sort of grumbling sound, coupled with the swish of soft, floofy Old English Sheepdog slippers on the floor, and a feathery flick of great feathered wings.

Enter in a wild winged healer, in one of her natural habitats. But beware of getting in her path, for the ungodly grumbling is coming from her. There is hungry--and then there is /hangry/. The purposeful way in which Shannon marches right towards the fridge hopefully offers ample warning to those in her immediate vicinity which state she is in.

At least she pauses long enough to peer at Kit and Sam, nodding to each before turning right towards the fridge again, opening it and rooting around for who knows what. She's in her favorite red tartan sweatpants, dove grey tank top, and of course, those slippers, for PJ's. "Hmmph..." is about all the greeting she manages for Sam and Kit at the present moment.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Kit's ears perk up at the slight sound of growling and he just stares at the doorway for a moment before Shannon walks in, giving a little chuckle as he asks, "Little hungry are we?" with a tilt of his head. Then he looks to Sam and nods with a smile. "Sort of a weird requirement yeah, but it's a thing."

Sam's request to ask questions gets a little tilt of Kits head, but then he nods and explains, "Ask away, I'm an open book." with a little laugh.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Do, you have to have them whole, and are they more filling if live, uncooked, or what? I know around here we get all types of dietary needs so not to odd." He looks over at the growly ones "I got pizza rolls, and fries on deck to be cooked if you want some."

Nightingale has posed:
"You know you're going to wind up sharing yourself right out of those, right, big bro?" Shannon peeks out from the fridge, peering back over her shoulder at him. Another growl of her stomach is the more immediate answer to Kit's query, which actually has her blushing a little bit. "Ya think? Had a good day doing my stint in the wellness office, didn't take on one single injury but healed a few doozies. But my metabolism's going bonkers."

Kit Killovarras has posed:
"Well, if you're up for some weird food combinations, Sam's got pizza rolls and fries and I'm making a lamb korma." Kit says with a little shrug, adding, "And don't worry, the locust aren't being added to the pot, those are just for my bowl."

He tends a bit to his cooking, giving Sam a glance at his question before he explains, "Nah, realistically I could probably just have them ground down to powder and added to just about anything, so they don't need to be whole." he pauses for a moment, then gets a weird little grin for a moment as he continues, "As for being alive? Doesn't make them more filling really, but for some of them it can make them more fun on occasion. Cooking them doesn't really change much either beyond texture. I tend to prefer them dried out though, they add a bit of crunch to just about anything they're added to."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods his head a bit to Kit, and says "Ok, was just wondering if might need to give you a call if we have a infestion or something if should call you to give ya a treat, or what not." He looks over to Shannon and says "Like I would stop and not get enough for at least a half dozen people if I planned on cooking it here." He grins over to her and says "First batch is already in."

Nightingale has posed:
     Locusts.

That one word was enough to have Shannon turn her gaze towards the counter. One eyebrow flicks upwards, and her face drains briefly of color. Her wings furl in front of herself like a shield, the leading edges raised to cover the lower half of her face. "At least it's not as fresh as 'gagh'," she mutters softly. "Think I'll definitely leave those to you, in -any- form, Kit."

Sam's reply regarding the volume of pizza rolls and fries involved gets a chuckle, and she nods, turning back to the fridge to retrieve the ingredients for some very fresh mac 'n cheese from scratch. "Then we might as well make this a feast, because you can bet once the smell of pizza rolls and a good curry starts going through the halls, we're going to have a feeding frenzy."

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Kit just laughs at Shannon's comment and gives an almost wicked little grin as he muses, "Nah, locusts are too annoying when they're that fresh.. Meal-worms though, those are amazing when they still have enough crawl in them to try and escape." Then he sticks his tongue out at her playfully and adds, "And that's sort of the idea. I figure the only way you're likely to actually enjoy bugs is if they're powdered and used as a thickener."

Sam's comment gets another little smile and a nod, "Actually, it depends on the infestation. I'm not good with flying critters unless they're baked dry, can't catch them too easy. Ants, spiders and termites I'd gladly help with though, but can't really stand roaches." he says that last bit with a little scrunch of his nose. "They taste too much like metal.."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and says "Will keep it in mind, and if we end up coming across any rotting fallen trees while in the woods will let ya know, know I knocked enough of them down over the years." He will look over to Shannon "You may not want to grab food if we ever go to Mandipor then."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon just rolls her eyes at mention of Mandipoor, shaking her head. With a quick swish of her hips, she bumps the door to the fridge closed, and sets about making the roux for the cheese sauce. "You know what the chances are of my ever going out with the team are, right? All people tend to remember is my mistakes, not that I've worked my ass off to get better and get past them."

As she's working on the sauce, and setting some water to boiling for the pasta, she peers over at Kit curiously. "Ground into a thickener, huh? Okay, I'm curious, would that actually offer any general nutritional benefits, or is it just a texture thing?"

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Kit looks to Shannon and quirks a brow, then perks his ears up and muses, "Never know, you made a hell of a partner the other night against those arms dealers." with a little grin, then nods a little at the question, "It actually adds a bit of protein to what it's added to and can be added to just about anything you'd put flour or corn starch in. Doesn't have a taste that way either, at least not to most people." Sam's mention of fallen trees gets the Aardwolf licking one side of his maw for a moment before he smiles and adds, "Would be much appreciated. Normally my family sends me what I use for cooking, but a few local snacks would be more than welcome."

Then there's a little pause and one of his ears flattens to the side for a moment before Kit glances to Shannon and asks, "Speaking of working with a team, I was wondering if you'd be willing to join me on another... Outing." with a tilt of his head before explaining, "I got an offer to jump through a few dimensions and you never know when a healer would be useful, especially one who knows how to fight."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over to Shannon and says "Well, as I told ya Kiddo, it will take time, and there have been a few incident, you have to get past. That being said I have faith in you. Then he looks over to Kit "Arms dealers?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon presses her lips together in a thin line, giving an agitated flick of her wings as she works on the cheese sauce. "Look, Kit. I've got few enough friends as it is, and the last couple times you've gone out at night, I've had to hear about you coming back in bad shape. I wasn't gonna let you get hurt again... what the fu...." Her expletive trails off into a rather sullen grumble, and she facepalms. At the exact same moment, she and Sam both come out with, "Arms dealers?!"

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Kit tilts his head, leaning to one side to emphasize the wounds on his ribs and shoulder as he explains, "More often than not, when I come back in bad shape it's because of my own power.." rather bluntly, then he gives a little smile as he straitens up. "Yup, small time guys really, usually just sell to the local gang bangers who want to upgrade from a bat to a gat." he gives a little shrug, adding, "The guy who got away was a client apparently."

Theres a moment of pause as he studies Shannon, then sticks his tongue out at her playfully before he muses, "I've done far more dangerous things than taking on a few armed idiots, though I do appreciate you looking out for me. Kinda part of the reason I want you to join me on this one too."

It doesn't seem to phase the creature that is Kit, that he's talking about going up against armed criminals like it's an every day occurrence, nor does he seem to strike him as weird that he's talking about dimensional travel like it's a fairly average event either. To the aardwolf? This is normal...

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the two students, and says "Students should not be out taking on armed..." He sighs a moment, and looks at them "If you know of an issue you should tell staff about it, and see about getting help."

Nightingale has posed:
"Okay, in fairness, Sam, I had no bloody idea that arms dealers were involved. I saw a buddy going out and wanted them to come home safe. Right now, I ain't exactly too happy about having been kept in the dark here." Shannon is silent for the space of several heartbeats, the ruffling of her feathers more than enough of a visual cue as to her state of mind at the moment.

"I swear, this is payback for the headaches I've given staff over the years here."

With the cheese sauce finished, the pan is moved off of the burner, the burner turned off, and the pasta dropped in the water. A somewhat heavy sigh escapes Shannon, and she pinches the bridge of her nose. "Okay, Kit, look. If this going up against arms dealers is going to be a regular thing, that's really something staff ought to be called in on. We were lucky out there. Especially since I essentially went in blind to bring you home in one piece. We might not be so lucky again. Please. Listen to Sam on this one, he knows what he's talking about. I want to help, but let's go about this the -right- way."

Kit Killovarras has posed:
There's a moment where Kit's fur bristles up a little, but it goes down after a moment as he takes the curry off the stove, setting it out for the others as he shrugs and gives a simple, "Never mind then.." with a quiet sigh. There's a quiet crackle of energy across his fur as the pile of locusts springs up and pours itself into a bag with the bag hopping up onto the top of the fridge shortly after.

"Enjoy your meal," he says after a moment with a smile that looks too much like it's hiding something, then starts for the door. There's a lot he probably wants to say right now, but something is stopping him to at least some degree. Pity would be in order for any telepath in the area though who might be tuning into his particular frequency.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "Lets hear what you have to say Kitt, Ah have been on the side, thinking the adults, and staff aint doing anything, don't care. Ah have been the one to lead a group of underaged students out into the world against mutant haters, aliens, super villians and evil scientists. Ah am also the one who had to explain to the teachers when one of the other students under my care died fighting the evil scientist. Why we brought back a body instead of our friend, and put the job of telling his parents he had died on the Headmaster's desk. Ah have broken the rules, been grounded, been screamed at, and been told to tell the staff about things. " He sighs a moment, and "Ah realize there will be times when your going to break the rules, sneak out and put yourself in danger, Ah can't stop you unless Ah hold ya down and sit on you, but realize, staff here aint here trying to hinder you, we are trying to help, protect and teach you."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon starts after Kit, reaching out to draw him into a hug if he'll let her. "Look. I'm not saying no. But I am saying... no, I'm -begging- you to hear Sam out. I've done more dangerous things than take on a few armed idiots, too. Just ask Sam about some of them. Or I'll tell you myself a little later."

She smiles a bit, pausing for a few moments to gather her thoughs. "Point is, folks here have a whole lot more experience than either of us, no matter what we like to think. I've seen it, been out there right alongside them, and have been learning to respect it. Please... please draw on their wisdom, too? What's stopping you from doing that?"

Tilting her head, she just looks at Kit for a long moment, her smile still there, but her brows furrowed. "Someone pretty wise told me, when I needed the most to hear it, 'Make a stand, but do it with the school. Make sure you're not alone.' Ask the teachers for help. Keep asking if you have to. They can and will hear you."

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Sam's words actually get the aardwolfs hackles up and when Shannon grabs him for a hug? His teeth are out... He's pissed, "Draw on their wisdom.. huh?" he asks, trying his damndest to be calm. "So what sort of wisdom was it, when -someone!- decided it was a good idea to take away every piece of text I could possibly use to study what I am?" Nope, not winning this battle with himself.. "What sort of wisdom was it, to point me in the direction of a bitch who treated me like I didn't know my tail from my toes when it came to a subject I fucking grew up surrounded by!?"

Then, something snaps, his fur goes down and he... 'chuckles', it's not a laugh, it's not even remotely human. It's something pained and when it stops he takes a breath and turns to Samuel and tilts his head ever so slightly, staring daggers into the man. "So, what exactly am I supposed to do then, hmm? Sit pretty and be someones 'good little pet' while I study things like calculus and history and every other mundane thing I can, while being barred from learning the things I legitimately came to this country to learn?" He quirks a brow, then asks, "Or how about I study how to 'help people' another way? Oh, I know, I could become a social worker some day.. if it weren't for the fact that people see me as a fucking monster!"

Apparently, some of his wounds have popped back open, but he hasn't seemed to notice yet. "So you know what? Fine. Never mind, I'll deal with it on my own cause right now? It's the only thing I can do to actually learn anything that's going to be worth a damn."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the young man, and says "Ah don't know what you came here to learn and who took texts away from you, how about filling me in on that and Ah will see what Ah can do to help, and Ah did not say not to help people Ah said to be cautious, to get help and not do it alone. And yea some are going to look at you as less than you are, but we are trying to work on that and the more we can help people hopfully that will change more in your benifit, but it is not something Ah can say will hapen for sure or when but it is something we work for.

Nightingale has posed:
Much to her credit, Shannon does not draw back or show signs of fear when Kit starts snarling and showing his teeth. She's not one to leave a friend quite so easily as that. "That... sounds pretty seriously out of whack, for a teacher. Did you let miss Grey or even the Professor know what happened? That magic is part of your gifts, and if you need help with it, it's not right what happened."

She smiles a little bit, just holding on despite the snarling. "My gift's weird that way, too, it's one of those 'baptism by fire' kinds you have to learn by doing. It took me two years here to finally find someone willing to help, and some of the crazy shit I got up to in the meantime would have your fur standing on end. You are NOT a monster, by the way, nor are you soeone's 'good little pet'. Yeah, there's gonna be some real assholes out there who try to prove otherwise, but you're not those things. Look. If you want, I'll go with you to either miss Grey or the Professor. They need to know what happened, or it can't be set right."

Kit Killovarras has posed:
"It's not the people who try to convince me of it that I give a damn about.." Kit says with a glance to Shannon, not struggling against her in the least, at least not right now. "It's the ones who run away screaming or recoil in fear." Then he looks back at Samuel and shakes his head, "Nah," he says with a sigh, "you actually gave a convincing argument as to why I shouldn't be trying to get help. After all, if I fuck up when I'm alone, only person that might die is me. Better to not risk having someone else's blood on my hands. Besides, at that point there wouldn't -be- a point." His ears lay back and to the sides a bit as he pauses, taking a long breath before he explains, "None of the teachers here have the slightest clue of how to help me. The one person who occasionally comes on campus who might, decided to look down on me even as I was proving that I have a fair grasp on arcane theorem and then threw every resource the school had that I could use, into a damn pocket dimension. If I bring staff members into the -one!- thing I can do now for the sake of learning what I'm capable of, I'll be coddled and protected at their expense, which means I wont have the opportunity to learn anything."

Then his shoulders slump and for he first time since he stepped through the doors on his first day, he actually frowns a bit. "So.. What exactly is the point of me being here? You said it yourself, the world you and yours are fighting for might never happen. Meanwhile, I have a few years to learn until I'm pretty much thrown into the deep end of a world where I'm going to have to stand toe to toe with gods, demons and beings from across an endless number of parallel dimensions and actually have to hold my ground against them.."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the young man and says "Let me look into it, you are our kind, you might know magic, but that does not put you away from being one of us. He wonders what was going through Magik's mind as with the mention of it being a pocket dimension he figures it was here. "Let me look into it and see what I can do, cause believe it or not we do care about the students here.

Nightingale has posed:
"You want to talk about being thrown into the deep end?" Shannon asked Kit, cracking a wry smile. "You know that shit I mentioned about healing gods and surviving, and going into battle alongside kings, and a whole bunch of crazy shit happening? That was within the first few /weeks/ of my being here. And trust me, I went toe to toe with the teachers about being coddled from that time up till very recently, because you know the nature of my gift pushes me into the deep end where it's needed the most."

Her hug tightens a little, and she adds, "You got to see what came of not giving up. I was asking myself the same questions you are now, like what was the point of my being here if nobody would help. But I refused to give up and give in to that line of thinking. Please. Let Sam do what he can. And please... don't give up. Believe it or not, you're not alone."

A few soft notes are hummed, a song that's perhaps seen a little time on the air recently, and she sings. Just audible, but clear enough.

"Sometimes it takes a lot of faith
To keep believing there will come a day
When the tears and the sadness, the pain and the hate
The struggle, this madness, will all fade away...."

Kit Killovarras has posed:
There's a long pause, then Kit finally sighs and nods, "Fine.." he says to Samuel, "But at this point, there's really nothing that can be done short of reclaiming those books. Like I said, no one here seems to have the slightest clue as to how to teach me." He closes his eyes and tries to relax for a moment, then adds, "As for my hunting, I'm not going to stop. For the time being, it's the only thing I can do to better myself and honestly? If people are going to run away screaming when they see me, I'd rather it be the people who deserve to be afraid."

Shannon's singing gets his ears to perk up and a little smile draws across his maw for a moment before he adds, "And.. as for the dimensional hopping? I'd bring staff into it, but honestly...? I can only bring a limited number of people with me and I doubt many of the teachers would approve of what's opening the way for it." He reaches up and scratches the back of his head a little and gives a half-hearted grin as he adds, "Then again, most people tend to get a little weird around daemons.."
