Holiday in the Park
Date of Scene: 26 November 2021
Location: Central Park, Manhattan
Synopsis: Lar and Kara meet Berri in Central Park.
Cast of Characters: Mon-El, Berri Sundae, Supergirl

Mon-El has posed:
It's one of the first really cold days of winter in Manhattan. There's even a few snowflakes floating slowly down from the grey evening skies above the city. It's after Thanksgiving, so all the lights are up on the trees and buildings, and the garland is up on the street lamps and railings. Central Park is certainly decked out in all the usual holiday trappings that get brought out every year.

Lar is standing on the Bow Bridge over the lake, which has just iced over enough for for skating. So despite the cold, plenty of people are out whizzing around on the frozen surface as a local a cappella group belts out Christmas carols nearby.

Berri Sundae has posed:
Cold, cold enough that for the moment seeing Berri walking around with a parasol was...well, -slightly- less weird than normal. The young woman with the two-tone hair and eyes was making her way through the park in a lazy pace. No jobs today, no contracts, not even a little mischievious thievery to pass the time for her. She'd already had plenty of fun utilizing her telepathy during Black Friday to have the frenzied shoppers 'donating' things to her. The hideout never looked so nice!

Making her way, she seemed rather calm and casual as she strolled, happily drinking in a little of the ambiance and holiday spirit.

Supergirl has posed:
Ah yes, the joys of winter. Many people are bundled up against the weather but Kara hardly feels it. But of course she has to at least try to play the part and so she dresses in a short red puffer jacket over a cream knit sweater and jeans. She's got skates slung over one shoulder as she heads for the lake but pauses as she sees a familiar face on the bridge, smiles and waves to Lar, heading his way. "Hi Lar!" she calls cheerfully.

Mon-El has posed:
Berri's parasol is easy to pick out, that's for sure, since it isn't exactly bright and sunny at the moment. But this city has definitely seen stranger. So Lar notes the woman's presence but doesn't otherwise bother her. When he spots Kara though, he smiles and approaches. "Kara."

At that moment, the carolers begin to break out into a more upbeat version of "Hark the Herald", which has some of the more talented skaters dancing to the beat across the ice.

Berri Sundae has posed:
Of course, Kara and Mon-El are easily enough to attract the eye from Berri, a pause and a tilt of her head. Did she recognize either or was it simply the fact that Kryptonians and Daxamites both tended to be rather appreciatably asthetic in their appearance thanks to their biology? Hard to know for sure!

Her lazy approach to the bridge continues, a light pause perhaps only as her senses sweep over the surface thoughts of those out and about. Criminal or not, it was pleasent to feel a bit of 'happy' vibes this time of year.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers arches a brow at Berri on her way to Lar. "Oh wow, what a pretty parasol..I don't think you'd be needing it in the snow though?" she smiles warmly in greeting to the bicolored haired girl, trying to figure her out. To Lar she nods and smiles, quickly stepping to his side, leaning over to kiss his cheek, "Hey, how've you been?"

Mon-El has posed:
As Berri scans the surface thoughts of those around her, she'd definitely find that there is plenty of holiday cheer to be shared. For one, most of the skaters have whatever song the carolers are singing going through their heads. Others are looking forward to spending time with friends and/or family for the holidays. Maybe wondering what they will get their loved ones for Christmas to put under the tree this year. Or what they will be receiving from them.

For his part, Lar also has his family in mind...

He strokes Kara's hair gently when she leans in for that kiss. "Good, I've been great..." he's smiling a little more than usual today. "You'll never believe it, but I managed to convince my parents to...um...talk to you and your family under...uh, non-threatening circumstances. Your Terran family, that is. So do you think they'd be open to...maybe dinner at some point?"

Berri Sundae has posed:
The parasol being complimented and commented both, Berri nods her head in thanks before shrugging and tucking it under her elbow, several motions of her hands quickly (or at least hopefully) recognizable as Sign Language. She'd obviously heard the words or was a pretty damn good lip-reader, but unless either of the pair showed that eye-contact that suggested understanding? Well, her response might be a little lost at first.

Lar's thoughts of family do sting a little close to home...or they would, but the moment of intimacy she'd walked up on was sort of overshadowed by the word 'Terran' swirling around in the active thoughts.

Weird in a way, that aliens often looked more normal than she did!

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers knows a little bit of sign language but not a whole lot. It's enough for her to pick up a word or two and she smiles and nods to the girl. "Love your outfit too, but you must be cold? I think they're handing out hot chocolate at the skate rental tent!" she says the words as she signs it out.

To Lar she smiles a bit more, hugging him tightly and holding him close, "Oh really? That's wonderful! I'm glad your parents are starting to accept me and I would love to introduce them and you to my family." well, adoptive but still. "I guess we just missed thanksgiving though.l"

Mon-El has posed:
Thanksgiving...oh, right. That. "Well, it doesn't have to be a holiday or anything, just..." he shrugs. "Whenever they're comfortable with it, I guess. If they are at all, that is." He had been a little worried they might not feel comfortable with it. After all, his parents were royalty. And they were...well, they didn't exactly have the best track record. Especially when it came to Kara. There had been that one time they tried to kill her. And Kal, too.

When Kara mentions the hot chocolate at the rental stall, he glances over at it. Indeed, it seems hot chocolate is being handed out to all skate renters. He turns back to Berri. It may not seem like Lar spends a ton of time on Earth, but it's more than one might think. Or will be more. Will have been more? Time travel is a weird thing. Either way, hopefully ASL hasn't changed all that much in a thousand years. "What's your name?"

Berri Sundae has posed:
Having perhaps only given away her suprise with a blink earlier, Kara's words bring a little shrug...but the offer of hot chocolate? Well, she the psychic-pixie wasn't exactly made of stone, was she?

Parasol remaining closed and tucked away, the girl actually looks slightly suprised when both seem to understand her to some degree, saving her from the usual 'Phone, charades or notpad' game that conversation so often turned into.

<Berri,> she signs, spelling out each letter individually before continuing. <Chocolate does sound good though. Thank you. Forgive me for interupting.>

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers smiles and nods, "You're right, we don't need a special occasion. Any time is fine. I'm just glad that your parents would be willing to do this." as for their past transgressions, Kara seems willing to forgive and forget. "Hey you know, why dont we all go for hot chocolate? And marshmallows?" she signs for Berri, tilting her head, "Berri? What a nice name, my name is Kara and this is Lar." she loops her arm with his, "Come on, let's check this out, maybe do some skating after?"

Mon-El has posed:
Lar looks relieved. This...well this was why he loved her like no other. "I--thank you. This...it means a lot to me."

He nods at Berri. "It's nice to meet you, Berri." he signs to her. "Why don't you join us?"

As Kara links arms with him, he goes right along with her toward the skate rental. "Heh, you know this is where I first met you." he tells Kara. "I mean, not -exactly- the same spot. But it did involve a skating arena. Times Square, remember?" he chuckles a little at the memory.

Berri Sundae has posed:
An offer given...and Berri shrugs and nods. Why not? She could use the chocolate, she could use the marshmellows...and if she was being honest she could probably use the crazy good-vibes the pair were putting off. It was kinda nice in a 'sitting by the fire' sort of way. Kara's signing however does get a responce aside from the nod, a little quirk of her lips to a smile.

<I am not deaf, you can talk normally if you like. I just don't talk.>

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers smiles, giving Lar's arm a gentle squeeze as they head for the line up, which is rapidly growing as a chill wind sweeps the area. As light gradually leaves the sky, they will probably bring out bonfires soon too, which is always fun. "Of course! I'd have it no other way. Finally there is nothing stopping us from being together." she smiles cheerfully at him, "And yes I remember our first meeting." to Berri she chuckles and arches a brow, "Ohh really? Well that's good to know. So do you skate too? It's so much fun!"

Mon-El has posed:
"I just...was worried you didn't trust them enough to meet with them like that yet. Which, would be understandable enough." Lar replies.

He nods at Berri as they get in line. "Oh, I'm sorry! I hope we aren't making you feel um, awkward. So...what brings you out here tonight anyway?" he asks her, trying to create some casual conversation.

Berri Sundae has posed:
Berri's hand is lifted, waved dismissively at the mention of akwardness before she shrugs her shoulders and begins to sign her answers. She could skate of course, compared to other feats of balance her mentors had beaten into her it was quite simple and as relaxing as it should be, but Lar's question brings a silent chuckle.

<Do not worry, it is 'Cute',> she signs, a little quirk to her lips. <I am out and about because I am bored, and it can be fun to see what you find when you go wandering.>

Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers smiles and shrugs, "Your mother could have killed me or handed me over to that crazed woman and her servants. But she risked her life to save me. I think we're about even." her phone rings at that moment and she pulls it out, "Hmm, I need to take this call..I'll meet you on the pond once you get your skates and chocolate." she kisses him briefly on the lips and waves to Berri. "Nice meeting you Berri!"
