When someone says "look for the helpers," they are talking about Franklin Percy "Foggy" Nelson. A Hell's Kitchen boy, Foggy knows all about the troubles that weigh down his community, and he wants nothing more than to be a helper. He has a big heart and a strong moral compass -- two things that often get him in trouble. His biggest problem is that he's friends with Matt Murdock, which means he's also friends with the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. Beyond that friend, Foggy also has friends in all the interesting places, from the biggest law firms in Manhattan, to some of the shadiest dealers on the corners of Hell's Kitchen.

It has been said that the meek shall inherit the Earth, and if there were ever a man who summed up that quote, it would be Franklin P. Nelson. Known as Foggy to his friends, he is average height at 175 cm, carrying a few extra pounds, has blond hair, blue eyes, and dresses as other lawyers do. Just, somehow it doesn't seem to quite fit him right. It's a little too loose here, a little too tight there; he's definitely buying off the rack. But he does look good in a suit, even an ill-fitting suit.
He's been known to rock a bowtie, but today he has on a navy blue tie, with little pink dots on it. His shirt looks pink at first, but upon closer inspection, it's actually pink and white, with some very narrow vertical lines. He has a matching navy suit jacket and trousers on, buttoned at the waist, and a pink handkerchief folded neatly into his left breast pocket. His watch will occasionally appear on his left wrist, though he's constantly pushing it back. It probably needs a couple of links to be removed from the strap. His shoes are nondescript and black. They aren't polished, but they don't look scuffed either.
He often carries a brown shoulder bag, which is monogrammed F.N. Attached to the bag is a business card, which reads 'Foggy Nelson, Attorney at Law, Nelson and Murdock,' there's a phone number, address, E-Mail address, web page, fax number, and mobile number. If one were observant, they'd learn everything they needed from that one card.
He's not what one would typically call handsome. He has a little too much in the face for that. And his longer, wild, untamed haircut does nothing to help. It's thick, slicked back and held that way with hairspray, and reaches down to brush against his shoulders. But he's cute. He's an everyman. He could be anyone. He is the kind of guy who can slip into a crowd, blend in, and disappear. He is Foggy Nelson.

Franklin Percy "Foggy" Nelson was born and raised in Hell's Kitchen. He is the son of Rosalind "Razor" Sharpe, and Edward Nelson. He never really knew his mother. She was far too driven, ruthless even. She abandoned him while he was still in diapers. He hasn't seen much of her since, but he did follow in her footsteps by becoming a lawyer. His father later remarried, and has always treated Anna Nelson as his mother.
While at Columbia University, he became roommates with Matt Murdock. Nelson's snoring was so loud that Murdock began calling him a human foghorn. The nickname stuck, but was eventually shortened to Foggy. Despite this, he continued to room with Murdock, even after they transferred to Harvard. After graduating Cum Laude, they got jobs with one of the big law firms, Landman and Zack. But it didn't agree with them, and after one too many drinks, they wrote their resignation letters and opened their own firm, Nelson and Murdock, Attorneys at Law. It's still a small practice, but with a big heart.

Foggy is loyal, trustworthy, and kind of brilliant. He has a moral compass that never fails him, although it often get him into trouble. He has a knack for finding people in need, and doing what he can to help them. He does not hold grudges easily. Even when he wants to, he has a forgiving manner. He has a deep and passionate hunger to become a part of things, to help out in his own way, but he is mostly just a guy, trying to make an honest living in a chaotic world.

INVESTIGATION
Foggy is not an investigator per say, but he has developed the skills associated with it through his legal work. He knows the city, is developing his street smarts, and has oodles of practical experience thanks to his casework. He's picked up the tricks of the trade, and what may lack in ability, he more than makes up for in determination.
LAW
Foggy is a Harvard educated lawyer. He graduated Cum Laude. He may not be as good an orator as his partner, but he's probably the better lawyer. He knows his stuff, back to front, and inside out. He's often underestimated, but once you get to see him work, it doesn't take long to know how good he is. He can be limited by the circumstances of the case, or the court, but he will do his best to represent his client in every endeavour. BAD LIAR
Generally speaking, lawyers are able to convince people of their viewpoint regardless of its authenticity. Foggy Nelson cannot. He has trouble defending someone he does not believe is innocent. He has trouble saying something that is not true. He can bluff, he can exaggerate, but he just doesn't have it in him to tell a lie. He gets flustered. He stammers. It doesn't take a polygraph to know when Foggy Nelson's holding something back.
DAREDEVIL'S FRIEND
Foggy Nelson isn't known to be Daredevil's Friend the way that Jimmy Olson is to Superman, but he is one. He knows and protects Matt Murdock's secret. He covers for him, both in absorbing much of the casework, and in coming up with excuses when necessary. Matt's friendship is the greatest thing in his life, but the cons far outweigh the pros. It's extremely dangerous having a costumed vigilante for a friend and business partner.
GOOD SAMARITAN
Foggy Nelson doesn't have ninja training. He can't leap tall buildings in a single bound. He wasn't bitten by a radioactive possum. He's just a good person, who does his best, in an ever changing world. During the course of his work as a lawyer, he'll invariably find himself in difficult situations. It can be anything from facing a biker to the Brotherhood. Worst of all, he's the kind of person to stick his nose into other people's business. If he feels he can be of help, or someone's in trouble, he's going to do something. And if that weren't enough, he happens to be partners in a law firm with a vigilante who's been amassing an extensive list of enemies.
JUSTICE
Foggy Nelson disapproves of Matt's vigilantism. He believes that justice should be found in the courts, not in the streets. He will of course protect his friend, and he recognises that Daredevil can be good for the people of Hell's Kitchen, but that doesn't change the fact that he and Matt have a fundamental difference of opinion on a matter that is hardly insignificant to their lives. For now, they seem to have found a happy balance. But how long can that continue?
NELSON AND MURDOCK
Foggy Nelson is a named partner in Nelson and Murdock. Every time they go into court, somebody's life changes. Sometimes it's for the better, sometimes not. But whether it's his client, or someone across the aisle, he's made enemies, and will continue to do so for as long as he practices the law. And if people affected by the cases weren't enough, there are liability issues. Whenever he goes out into the world, he is a representative of the firm. His actions have consequences.

When presented with a hard luck story, his heart melts. He knows that if he doesn't help, they may not get any help at all. Sure, good deeds are their own rewards, but try telling that to the electric company, or the grocery store, or any of the other bills he has to pay.
