When someone says "look for the helpers," they are talking about Franklin Percy "Foggy" Nelson. A Hell's Kitchen boy, Foggy knows all about the troubles that weigh down his community, and he wants nothing more than to be a helper. He has a big heart and a strong moral compass -- two things that often get him in trouble. His biggest problem is that he's friends with Matt Murdock, which means he's also friends with the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. INVESTIGATION

Foggy is not an investigator per say, but he has developed the skills associated with it through his legal work. He knows the city, is developing his street smarts, and has oodles of practical experience thanks to his casework. He's picked up the tricks of the trade, and what may lack in ability, he more than makes up for in determination.

LAW

Foggy is a Harvard educated lawyer. He graduated Cum Laude. He may not be as good an orator as his partner, but he's probably the better lawyer. He knows his stuff, back to front, and inside out. He's often underestimated, but once you get to see him work, it doesn't take long to know how good he is. He can be limited by the circumstances of the case, or the court, but he will do his best to represent his client in every endeavour. When his partner's night life interferes with the case work, it's Foggy who invariably picks up the slack. And he's a better lawyer for all that extra hours he puts in.

MULTILINGUAL

Foggy Nelson took a Punjabi language course simply to get close to a girl. Finding it interesting, he took more, and now has conversational aptitude in Punjabi. He can read and write Punjabi, as long as people don't speak too fast, or have accents he's not familiar with. He might miss the slang, but he is not the typical Punjabi speaker. CONTACTS

Foggy grew up in the kitchen, Hell's Kitchen, and he genuinely cares about the community. They are his friends, neighbours, and if need be, his clients. He knows people, many who owe him a favour. It's not just the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. If he needs a specialist on short notice, he can usually find someone. And if he can't, when he puts the word out, his friends will invariably be able to find the person he needs.

GUTS NELSON

Not all resources are tangible. Foggy Nelson may act like a coward at times, he is at his heart a pragmatist, but when the chips are down, Foggy's courage always seems to prevail. He didn't earn the nickname "Guts" Nelson for nothing. He will stand up for what he believes in, whether that is in a court of law before a judge and jury, or on the streets before the mightiest of metahumans.

NELSON AND MURDOCK

Foggy is a partner in Nelson and Murdock. Although they are still fairly new and fairly small, they've quickly developed a reputation for solid work, and a habit of taking on cases that other lawyers would refuse. They've made it their mission to help the disenfranchised, people who can't afford proper legal aide, but they do hope to become a thriving practice. They've taken on more than a few giants and emerged victorious. But sadly, they haven't really reaped a financial windfall from those victories. They always seem to get reduced on appeal.

BAD LIAER

Generally speaking, lawyers are able to convince people of their viewpoint regardless of its authenticity. Foggy Nelson cannot. He has trouble defending someone he does not believe is innocent. He has trouble saying something that is not true. He can bluff, he can exaggerate, but he just doesn't have it in him to tell a lie. He gets flustered. He stammers. It doesn't take a polygraph to know when Foggy Nelson's holding something back.

DAREDEVIL'S FRIEND

Foggy Nelson isn't known to be Daredevil's Friend the way that Jimmy Olson is to Superman, but he is one. He knows and protects Matt Murdock's secret. He covers for him, both in absorbing much of the casework, and in coming up with excuses when necessary. Matt's friendship is the greatest thing in his life, but the cons far outweigh the pros. It's extremely dangerous having a costumed vigilante for a friend and business partner.

GOOD SAMARITAN

Foggy Nelson doesn't have ninja training. He can't leap tall buildings in a single bound. He wasn't bitten by a radioactive possum. He's just a good person, who does his best, in an ever changing world. During the course of his work as a lawyer, he'll invariably find himself in difficult situations. It can be anything from facing a biker to the Brotherhood. Worst of all, he's the kind of person to stick his nose into other people's business. If he feels he can be of help, or someone's in trouble, he's going to do something. And if that weren't enough, he happens to be partners in a law firm with a vigilante who's been amassing an extensive list of enemies.

JUSTICE

Foggy Nelson disapproves of Matt's vigilantism. He believes that justice should be found in the courts, not in the streets. He will of course protect his friend, and he recognises that Daredevil can be good for the people of Hell's Kitchen, but that doesn't change the fact that he and Matt have a fundamental difference of opinion on a matter that is hardly insignificant to their lives. For now, they seem to have found a happy balance. But how long can that continue?

NELSON AND MURDOCK

Foggy Nelson is a named partner in Nelson and Murdock. Every time they go into court, somebody's life changes. Sometimes it's for the better, sometimes not. But whether it's his client, or someone across the aisle, he's made enemies, and will continue to do so for as long as he practices the law. And if people affected by the cases weren't enough, there are liability issues. Whenever he goes out into the world, he is a representative of the firm. His actions have consequences.

SOFT TOUCH

Despite what you might have heard; Foggy Nelson does in fact like earning money. He would like to have a thriving practice, filled with people who could pay in actual currency. But, not everyone can. When presented with a hard luck story, his heart melts. He knows that if he doesn't help, they may not get any help at all. So he'll work his butt off, call in favours, spend time, energy, and resources, without any idea of what he'd get in return. Sure, good deeds are their own rewards, but try telling that to the electric company, or the grocery store, or any of the other bills he has to pay.
