Profile

As Mary Baston, Mary is the top student in her school. She has the best grades and often gets better grades with each test.

As Mary Marvel, she keeps people safe as best she can, using plenty of forethought, if she can manage it.

Often, Mary keeps these two side of her life separate and will do her best to keep it that way.

Description

White and Gold, the colors of power and purity. These are the qualities that stand out most about Mary Marvel. If the angels of heaven had a cheer squad, she would be leading it. Her white hero costume is a short sleeved short dress, white with gold trim on the ends of the sleeve and a matching golden lightning bolt down the center of her chest. A half cloak flutters behind her, also white with gold trim that matches her ruffled gold and white skirt. Her legs are bare save for a pair of calf high golden boots.

The woman herself could be considered by many a living work of art with long flowing brown hair, cheerful brown eyes and soft red lips. She looks like the kind of young woman who is even beautiful getting out of bed in the morning. Truly, a Marvel.

History

Born twin sister to Billy Batson, Mary and Billy were separated when Mary was taken on a trip with her parents, who were then killed. She grew up adopted by a wealthy couple, with no knowledge of her true family or origin. It isn't until a magically-empowered doll is delivered to her (hey, magic works in weird ways) and instructs her to say her magical word that she becomes a super-heroine, and discovers there's far more of a wide world out there...and that she might not be alone in it.

Personality

Bright skies and butterflies, that's Mary. She's a throwback to an older (Golden) age, and more than a little bit Pollyanna. She sees the best in everyone, is an eternal optimist, and would be scandalized to use such harsh language as "darnit!". She's thrilled that she gets to be a superheroine, and she's planning to make the most of it!

Abilities

DIMENSIONAL TRAVEL
Mary can use the lightning she summons to transport her to the Rock of Eternity and back. This doesn't work to transport her anywhere ELSE, but it allows her to get to the Marvel "base", as it were.

LIGHTNING
Mary transforms by summoning the mystic lightning that empowers her. However, it's possible for her to dodge the blast by moving at superspeed, allowing the lightning to strike another target. This is a powerful, mystical blast, and not something Mary would make use of under normal situations, but it is in her repertoire.

SUPERHUMAN INTELLECT
Mary's transformation comes with a lovely array of mental upgrades. While she's transformed, she has a perfect memory, and she also becomes an excellent tactician. She gains the ability to speak all human languages, and moreover, she is blessed with /wisdom/...a knack for making the wise, or correct choice, in a given situation.

SUPERHUMAN SPEED
Much like her strength, Mary's speed, whether it be on the ground or in the air, is on par with Kryptonians. She isn't a true speedster by any means, but she can manage bullet time, and her reflexes and agility are on superhuman levels as well.

SUPERHUMAN STAMINA
Thanks to the power of Atlas, Mary has virtually limitless reserves; while she's transformed, she doesn't need food, water, air, or sleep. In addition, she's blessed with invulnerability that is (once again) on par with a Kryptonian's. One might even say superior, since it lacks their magic vulnerability. As a side benefit, her Mary Marvel form is fixed in age, unaging. No matter what age she is outside of her transformation, her superpowered form is always the same age. If she is injured, she heals at a highly accelerated rate.

SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH
One of Mary's gifts through her empowerment, in her transformed state, she's one of the heavy hitters...literally. Her magically-empowered strength puts her on Kryptonian levels, capable of lifting incredible weights and exerting physical force with the top tier of superpowered individuals.

Skills

BASIC ACADEMICS
Mary has a primary school education. Reading, writing, and 'rithmatic, as the old saying goes. This is pretty limited, as far as things go, but she /is/ just only now starting high school.

COOKING
Mary is a phenomenally good cook, especially where baking is concerned. Just one of those people who has a natural talent in an area. She'd be great on Masterchef.

HIGH SOCIETY
Mary's adopted family (the Bromfields) are loaded. As such, she's been involved in the high society scene of New York all her life. She has an understanding of proper etiquette and the like.

Resources

LOADED FAMILY
Mary's adoptive family are quite wealthy. Certainly not on a Stark/Luthor/Wayne level, but they're very much the epitome of that "old money". Mary can't just walk in and make a withdrawal from the family bank accounts, but she's certainly not lacking for spending money, and a well placed "Daddy, please" can get her most anything a teenager might want.

MARVEL FAMILY
Much like the Superman Family, or the Batman Family, Mary's part of an extended group of heroes, involving Billy, herself, and Freddy. Not to mention Shazam himself. She can call on the others for aid and assistance if she finds herself in trouble over her head.

ROCK OF ETERNITY
Mary has access to the Rock of Eternity, an interdimensional nexus point of magic. While she herself can't make use of that power, that's where she can meet Shazam, and ask for his help.

Weaknesses

LIGHTNING
The magic that transforms Mary comes in the form of a flash of lightning. While it's not consistent, it's been known to happen that lightning (generally either true natural lightning, or magical lightning) can transform her without her wanting to change. Superman's got his kryptonite, Martian Manhunter's got fire...the Marvels generally don't do well with lightning.

SECRET IDENTITY
Like so many heroes, no one has any idea that Mary Bromfield = Mary Marvel. This means it can be hard for her to get away from her adult supervisors long enough for her to transform and go save the day...and she'll likely get in trouble for disappearing when she gets back.

SHARED POWER
The Power of Shazam is a finite pool, shared among its users. If multiple Marvels are transformed simultaneously, each is weaker than they would be if they were the only one transformed. Further, things that affect one, mystically, have a potential connection to the others. And, of course, in any situation where Shazam's power is cut off, Mary is utterly powerless.

VOCAL TRANSFORMATION
In her normal form, Mary is an unpowered teenage girl. It's only if she can speak the word "Shazam" to transform that she gains all her powers. If someone can get her before she transforms, all they have to do is gag her to render her powerless. And anyone who can get her to say the word while empowered (via trickery, mind control, or whatever) can shut her powers off.
