Profile

Eddie Brock was born and raised in Coast City, California. His mother died in childbirth, leaving him to be raised by his devote Roman Catholic father. Eddie tried everything to gain his approval, but nothing he ever did was good enough. After graduating from Empire State University with a degree in Creative Writing, Eddie began a successful career as an investigative reporter. He made one mistake, a big one, and his life has never been the same. It began a downward spiral, which culminated in his becoming bonded to the symbiote. Together, they became the brutal and savage Venom. Arriving at something of an understanding, they are only now beginning to pick up the shattered remnants of their now shared life.

Description:

Black is the first thing you notice; a black so deep and dark that it's difficult to make out the contours of his physique. It is form fitting, tight in all the right places, but the colour, it's like the light just drips off.

Covered from head to toe, there are no seams to this costume, no zippers, it's like it was painted on. Around his eyes, there are two large white orbs, shaped rather like inverted apostrophes. And they're expressive!

On the back of each wrist, there is a square in white, with a black dot in the middle. They're out of place, with no obvious purpose, but there must be one.

Finally, on his chest, there is a large vertical spider in white, it's head pointing up, with four legs on either side that disappear under his arms and around to the other side, where another spider completes the symmetry.

History

History:

Eddie Brock was born and raised in the Palos Blancos area of Rancho Alto, which is a borough of Coast City, California. His mother died in childbirth, leaving him to be raised by Carl Brock, a devote Roman Catholic, and successful businessman in his own right.

The day Eddie was born should have been the happiest day of Carl's life. But it was also the day that his wife, Jamie, passed away. Carl was never able to forgive Eddie for it. He knew that it was not Eddie's fault; that he had no control over the events, but still, Carl associated Eddie with the death of his beloved Jamie.

In his teenage years, Eddie excelled academically, gaining a scholarship to Empire State University, while quarterbacking the St. Francis High School Lancers to the state championship. They lost in the final, but it was still an achievement. As far as Carl was concerned, Eddie had lost, and thus, he was a failure.

While at ESU, Eddie met and fell in love with Anne Weying, then a law student. After graduating, he became a member of the Associated Press, proposed to Anne, and obtained a job as a journalist for the Daily Sentinel. Once again, he failed to earn his father's approval.

Early in his career, he uncovered illegal human testing at Devlin-MacGregor Pharmaceuticals, Anne was well on her way to becoming a lawyer, and he was receiving offers from news agencies all over the United States. And then he was diagnosed with adrenal cancer. Breaking it off with Anne, he took a job with the Daily Bugle, moving back to New York.

With what little time he had left, he tracked down Emil Gregg, who he thought to be the Sin-Eater, landing an exclusive interview, only for Spider-Man to capture the real Sin-Eater hours after his story hit the presses.

The Bugle had to print a retraction, and J. Jonah Jameson hates printing retractions. Eddie was fired on the spot, though Jameson probably would have done more, were it legal. His reputation in ruins, he took a seroes of jobs with the Gotham Gazette, WGBS, and other, less reputable news agencies.

It seemed as though everything that could go wrong, did. With his impending death, he began seriously contemplating suicide. Then one night he visited Our Lady of Saints Church on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. As luck would have it, Spider-Man managed to rid himself of the symbiote in the bell tower, as Eddie sat in the pews down below.

The symbiote bonded with him, mentally and physically. Eddie had come to see Spider-Man as the source of all his problems, while the symbiote had just been rejected by him. Together, they were fuelled by an all consuming rage, and above all, a desire for revenge.

Taking on the moniker of Venom, he terrorised Spider-Man, slowly at first, wishing to savour the experience, before escalating things. It's been a long road, with the symbiote giving birth to Carnage, Eddie having been separated from the symbiote, serving time in the Vault, Ryker's Island, and even Arkham Aslyum.

At times, he's even been approached by forces within the United States government, who provided him with an amnesty. Since then, he has committed crimes, terrible crimes, but he hasn't been caught. He's on a journey, but where it leads, he does not know. Will he become a Lethal Protector, or a cartoonish super villain? Who can say; but no matter what he becomes, he will never be able to make amends for what he was.

Personality

Personality:

Despite excelling academically and becoming a successful journalist, Eddie was never able to impress his father. Owing to this lack of emotional support and affirmation, Eddie began to self-loath. There are many ways to describe it, a number of contributing factors, but at its core, Eddie was just a boy, asking to be loved, and his pleas fell on deaf ears.

So much has gone wrong for him in his life, both on a personal and professional level. After becoming bound to the symbiote, he focused all of his frustrations on Spider-Man. To this day, he would gleefully watch Spider-Man's head get smashed in. They have come to something of an understanding. Venom grudgingly accepts that this world is marginally better for having Spider-Man in it.

Eddie's attitude towards the symbiote fluctuates. At times, he recognises that they have something of a co-dependent relationship. For his part, he fears being alone, has become addicted to the power it grants, but the symbiote, he knows that it is a violent creature. For now, they have come to an understanding of their own. Violence will come to those who deserve it. He's even relaxed his attitudes towards killing. But, he knows it's wrong.

Eddie is a good man, who has endured a lot of bad things. The symbiote on the other hand, does not adhere to human norms. How could it? The symbiote is an alien creature. So, he works with it, trying to be a Lethal Protector, but fearful that the focus may be too much on the former, and not enough on the latter.

Abilities

Agility:
Venom is agile, balanced, and coordinated. He is exceedingly limber. His tendons and connective tissue are at least twice as elastic as the average person. If he weren't so strong, he'd probably be even more agile. He is a natural acrobat, and has used this agility to form the basis of his fighting style, movement, and even resting positions. He's quite happy to crouch in positions that would make most men wince in pain. Show him a gymnastics trick, a circus act, and he can recreate it on his first attempt, though he is known for adding a bit of extra flair or panache to these efforts.

Camouflage:
Symbiotes are capable of shapeshifting to mimic the appearance of clothing, changing colour, texture, and shape in the process. Black and white require the least amount of effort, thus Venom uses those colours often, but it can change to any colour on the human visible spectrum.

Chemical Resistance:
Venom's body is able to deal with chemicals that would impair a normal human. Gasses, serums, things ingested or topically applied can still affect him, but their impact is reduced, and in some cases, non-existent. When they do affect him, his recovery is rapid. He's recovered from acid being sprayed in his face, inhaling toxic gasses, being exposed to what should have been deadly radiation, but curiously, his tolerance to alcohol remains unaffected.

Durability:
Venom can endure punishment that would break an ordinary person. He's fallen off buildings and while webslinging. It hurts, it may even break bones or rupture internal organs, but he's survived them all. He can withstand severe impacts, punches from people stronger than he is. His body is so tough that ordinary people, and even some weaker superhumans, have damaged themselves while trying to strike him. If you're not careful, you could break your hand trying to punch him. He loves it when people hurt themselves fighting him.

Equilibrium:
Venom can find his sense of balance or equilibrium no matter what position he's in. He does this on a subconscious level, meaning that he will adjust himself to achieve a state of equilibrium without any forethought. Hanging upside down, balancing on the head of something as narrow as a screwdriver, or webslinging through the air, his sense of equilibrioception will identify the imbalance and his body will correct it, sticking out a knee, leg, hand, arm, tendril, or whatever it takes to find a perfect state of equilibrium.

Fangs and Claws:
As Venom, the symbiote can grant its host an elongated jaw, fangs, and claws. The fangs not only intimidate foes, but can also deliver a powerful, venomous bite, true to his namesake. Despite this, Venom rarely bites. He prefers to eat his victims' whole. His claws can be used in a stabbing, or slashing manner.

Healing Factor:
Symbiotes are capable of healing severe injuries to them, and rapidly accelerating the healing of their hosts. Symbiotes can heal injuries and illnesses that exceed the current level of human medical care. Injuries that otherwise would be lethal to the host, are still painful, and require time to heal, but they are not in and of themselves, life threatening. The time required to heal is proportional to the severity of the damage. A clean break in a bone can be set in seconds, and will fully heal in time. A shattered bone would take much longer. Endorphins may be released into the host to push through the pain, until it can recover in safety.

Night Vision:
Venom has better night vision than humans do. The symbiote can sense radiation that is invisible to Eddie Brock. As a result, Venom can see perfectly in a variety of lighting environments, as well as detect things that humans would require specialised equipment to notice.

Offspring Detection:
Symbiotes are capable of psychically detecting their offspring. With effort, they are able to block this detection. They cannot detect their progenitors, or grandfoffspring.

Parasitic Inheritance:
The symbiote can copy the powers and abilities of its hosts. Eddie Brock's symbiote copied most, but not all, the powers of Spider-Man. Were it bond to another metahuman for a prolonged period of time, it would theoretically be able to copy those powers and abilities as well.

Note: This trait was included because it is a feature of the symbiote. It is how he gained so many of Spider-Man's abilities. It is not intended as a means of gaining additional powers or abilities. Were that to change, it would require a staff approved event.

Physique:
Prior to becoming bonded to the symbiote, Eddie Brock undertook an intensive training regime. At his peak, he was able to deadlift 700 lb, which is far from a world record for his weight class, but still a highly impressive figure. And while he focused primarily on strength, he did not forget cardio and endurance training. Were Eddie Brock to be separated from the symbiote, he would still be an impressive specimen, and dangerous opponent.

Reflexes:
Venom is many things, agile being probably the most well known, but his reflexes are almost as well known. He reflexes are around 40 times that of the average human. Combined with his other abilities, it allows him to dodge bullets, assuming it wasn't point blank. He's good, but he's not that good.

Speed:
Venom is fast, able to catch up to an accelerating car while on foot, but for obvious reasons, he prefers to travel by slinging. He is fast enough to dodge a bullet. He may not have a connection to the Speed Force, but he's still fast enough to beat Olympic sprint and distance runners with relative ease.

Spider-Sense:
Venom possesses a spider-sense, after a fashion. Unlike Spider-Man's rather complex iteration that borders on precognition, Venom's is rudimentary. The symbiote can perceive all along the Cartesian coordinate system, or 360 degrees along the x, y, and z axis. It's incredibly difficult to sneak up or surprise someone when every direction can be considered their front.

Spider-Sense Immunity:
Spider-Man was host to the symbiote prior to Eddie Brock bonding with it. As a result, Venom is able to bypass Spider-Man's spider-sense. Venom can attack Spider-Man without triggering that spider-sense, though Spider-Man may still anticipate the attack through one of his other senses. It should be noted that Scarlet Spider was cloned from Spider-Man before he bonded with the symbiote. As such, Venom is not immune to Scarlet Spider's spider-sense.

Stamina:
Venom's musculature produces fewer toxins during use, and thus, he does not fatigue as quickly as an ordinary person. He can maintain peak levels of physical activity for much longer periods of time. While it is a rarity to be put into a situation that would necessitate it, he could continuously act as Venom for several hours before he would need a rest. Also, he needs less air to function, and as a result, he can hold his breath for over 8 minutes.

Strength:
Venom's strength does not behave in a linear fashion as is the case with other people. He has this funny thing where he seems to be as strong as he needs to be, within a certain threshold, which is around 70 metric tons. However, his customary strength is much lower. When he punches someone, without knowing anything about them, it seems to be enough to hurt without causing grave bodily harm. Normally, when he is not in danger, he can exert a force equal to around 15,000 kg. But when his need is great, he's been shown to lift things that are far heavier than 15,000 kg, like a Main Battle Tank, which he was not only able to lift, but could also throw a fair distance. When he's trying these feats of greater strength, his muscles seem to bulge thanks to the symbiote. These instances are rare. He usually remains firmly in the 15 ton category, but he does seem to have a far greater potential.

Stretch and Deform:
The symbiote can stretch and deform, creating prehensile tendrils to manipulate objects, get into small areas, slip under doors, between car panels, and anything else it might want to. It can also expand upon the host, making Venom appear taller, or bulkier.

Telepathic Resistance:
Venom is the result of two separate minds bound together. They can simultaneously function independently, and cooperatively. It is similar to how two people can be in a shared chat room, while also have a word document open. Eddie Brock and the symbiote can keep some thoughts to their selves, while sharing others. Thus, it takes longer than usual for a telepath to affect Venom. It is far from impossible, but it does present a challenge. As a human being, Eddie is far more susceptible to telepathic intrusions by humanoids. This does not prevent the symbiote from fighting back, however.

Wallcrawling:
Venom can consciously control the electrostatic force found between two objects. Usually, he exerts this force through his hands or feet. It enables him to stick to walls or other objects. Basically, if he wants to keep hold of something he's come into physical contact with, even through his clothing, he can. When there's another superhuman on the other end of the object, like a MacGuffin, he might be thrown around with it, but he will remain attached. He can exert this force on other parts of his body, but he has no need to. Most of the time, he uses it to scale walls, rapidly climbing vertical surfaces as easily as an ordinary human would crawl along a horizontal floor.

Web-Shooters:

Venom has two organic web-shooters, one in each wrist. They can shoot pressurised "web fluid", which is a type of tough but flexible organic polymer. He uses this rope-like substance to swing from, or create simple structures that resemble spider webs. The more complex the structure, the more time it will take him. This webbing is produced by the symbiote.

Skills

Acrobatics:
Venom has all the tools required to excel in the field of gymnastics. He could replicate any acrobatic feat he observed a human perform, or was described to him. He could even do some things that no human ever has, or even could perform. He's just a little too limber, too strong, and too flexible for a normal human to keep up with him. If he wanted to, he could become a millionaire overnight just by agreeing to perform the stunts in a single movie. Though if he did, people might complain that it looked cheesy.

Deduction:
Eddie Brock doesn't miss much. He can glance at a scene and instantly pick up on the kinds of clues that most people miss, paint a picture in his mind, and come up with a spot on assessment. Even before he became reporter, he was good at reading people and situations, but with a few years of practice, he's really honed this skill into something of an art.

Espionage:
Eddie Brock knows the tricks of the private investigator trade. He can trail people without being seen, blend into the background, hide in plain sight, and that's even without the symbiote. He can pick locks, and bypass security systems. He'll do whatever it takes to get the story.

Hand-To-Hand Combat:
Eddie Brock has no formal combat training, but he is a formidable hand-to-hand combatant, with the symbiote, or without. With the symbiote, he is able to benefit from the experience it gleamed while bonded to Spider-Man. Without the symbiote, he can draw upon his own experiences since becoming Venom. He is an efficient fighter. Though were he forced to fight without the symbiote, he might learn the hard way that his body is not as limber on its own.

Intimidation:
Venom presents a fearsome image to the public. He can be all kinds of scary when he wants to be, or even when he doesn't want to be. Venom looks like a monster, and people react to him as if he were a monster.

Journalist:
Prior to bonding with the symbiote, Eddie Brock enjoyed a successful career as a reporter. He has worked for the Daily Bugle, Daily Sentinel, Gotham Gazette, and WGBS. He is a skilled investigator, writer, and charismatic when on camera. He also has a number of sources of information from all walks of life.

Marksman:
Eddie Brock has never owned a gun, but as Venom, he becomes an expert marksman. He has used Sonic Guns to great effect against his offspring. On occasion, he has used conventional guns with alarming accuracy.

Photographer:
Eddie Brock is a skilled photographer. Originally a Canon shooter, he has since began using Sony equipment. He is also well versed in Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premier Pro.

Streetwise:

Eddie Brock has street smarts. He's perceptive, observant, creative, and resourceful. He can navigate dicey situations, deal with unexpected events, and keep his cool. He's become an effective combatant with little to no training.

Resources

Apartment:
Eddie Brock has a duplex apartment at 700 Brook Avenue in the Bronx. There's a Dunkin' nearby that caters to his chocolate addiction, as well as American Grill, Domino's Pizza, Anthony's Mini Market, Blink Fitness, Imgembert Barber Shop, Subway, and Walgreens, plus St. Mary's Park is just a short walk away.

Symbiote:
Eddie Brock has bonded with the symbiote. It is now a part of him. But it remains a distinct creature. It has thoughts of its own. It wants to control him, but he's used a variety of means to keep it docile. The bond can be broken by outside means, such as extreme heat and sound, or it could voluntarily choose to leave him. It may desire to join one of its previous hosts, or a new one.

Wealth:

Thanks to the internet, Eddie Brock can anonymously make a reasonable living as a writer, reporter, and YouTube personality. However, this is as much work as anything else. It takes time that he does not always have. So, when presented with an opportunity to supplement his income at the expense of his victims, or faceless corporations, he invariably does. Should he ever have too much cash on hand, he donates it to the less fortunate. He can always make, or steal, more.

Weaknesses

Chloroethane:
Venom's immune system can handle a lot, but Chloroethane, more commonly known as Ethyl Chloride, is particularly troublesome. It wasn't an issue before he became Venom, but ever since, he has trouble breathing, thinking, or doing much of anything when in the presence of this stuff. The refrigerated liquid form isn't too bad, like when stored in a barrel, but if he gets it on his skin, or he breathes it in, it affects him to a greater degree than it would an ordinary human, and it's not exactly good for an ordinary human either.

Heat:
The Kyltnar, also known as symbiotes, have an intense reaction to extreme heat. Temperatures that would not cause permanent damage to a human being will force the Kyltnar to retreat and potentially leave its host. An act as mundane as warming your hands in front of a fireplace would cause the Kyltnar to retreat, exposing the host's hands, forearms, and quite possibly biceps.

Mental Instability:
Eddie Brock is addicted to the power bestowed upon him by being bonded to the symbiote. It has caused gradual, but not permanent, shifts in his personality. The longer he is bonded to the symbiote without becoming forcibly separated, the more relaxed he becomes to the symbiote's violent tendencies. Once separated, he gradually begins to revert back to his pre-bond attitudes and beliefs.

Phenethylamine:
The Kyltnar have a dependence on phenethylamine. They consume it as nourishment. Phenethylamine can be obtained via chocolate, pharmaceutical supplements, or through far less savoury means. They need it to survive.

Professional Criminal:
Venom has committed crimes and, when not enjoying amnesty, he is wanted by the authorities. Sometimes, his reputation will precede him. If he continues, eventually everyone will know about him. He is a murderer. Eddie does not like killing, but has grudgingly accepted that they can kill people who deserve it. He is also a thief. Venom is every bit an "ends justify the means" type. He has no problem from robbing someone he is about to kill, has recently killed, or from faceless corporations. Some of it goes to himself, and the rest is given to the needy, ala Robin Hood; a rather dark and twisted version of Robin Hood.

Public Identity:
Eddie Brock is publicly known to have operated as Venom. The information is just a Google search away. However, there are extenuating circumstances, such as the fact he became bonded with a sentient alien species. He was hardly in his right mind. Still, he was convicted, and he has spent time in the Vault, where he escaped twice; Ryker's Island, where he escaped once; and Arkham Asylum, which ended in him being granted amnesty. Further complicating matters, other people are known to have bonded with the symbiote, both before and after Eddie, making it difficult to determine which human host was bound to the symbiote during which crimes.

Eddie usually regains the symbiote, but his bond has been interrupted on numerous occasions. The sad truth of the matter is that most people have never heard of Eddie Brock. He's just one metahuman in an endless sea. In world filled with so many heroes, villains, and people in between, it's surprisingly easy to get lost in the noise. Of course, anyone whose life was turned upside down by Venom, or otherwise has a reason to take an interest, can always look him up.

Sound:
The Klytnar, or symbiotes if you prefer, are extremely sensitive to the mechanical waves that pass through gases, liquids, and other solid materials. These are better known as sound waves. Generally speaking, loud noises like the kinds made by jet engines, explosive devices, and bells, disrupt the symbiote's ability to maintain its bond with the host.

Symbiote:
Eddie Brock has bonded to a sentient life form that he'll never truly understand, and always secretly fear. For now, neither one seem to be in complete control. They have found a happy medium. But things can change in a hurry. If it wanted to, the symbiote could kill him at any moment.

Xenophage:

The Xenophage, or the Phage for short, are an amorphous extraterrestrial species. Curiously, their anatomy does not contain nociceptors, meaning that they feel no pain. Their saliva functions as an incendiary neurotoxin, both burning and paralysing tissue it comes into contact with. They are the natural predator of the Klytnar, which are known in English as symbiotes. They have a particular fondness for the brain tissue of a symbiote's host.
