Unstoppable: Declaration of Intent
Date of Scene: 10 August 2022
Location: Breakstone, Westchester County
Synopsis: An unknown device lands north of Westchester, the kinetic force causing significant damage. While heroes tend to the wounded, it starts to pump a strange atmosphere into the area.
Cast of Characters: Shredder, Doctor Doom, Faith Lehane, Kit Killovarras, Starfire
Tinyplot: Unstoppable

Shredder has posed:
It's another day in Westchester. The final days of summer are here, School supply runs for families with children getting ready to start their next year of education. Shopping trips for clothes to carry through the fall and winter ahead. Westchester's relatively stable economy and low crime rates make it an easy place to live, with most people finding it to be a nice place to spend on a personal day, or daily life. It's happy.

However, something is happening in near orbit as a small device, too small for most space detection, comes to life. The small electrical signal on the fifteen foot pod comes to attention, and 120,000 feet in the air. Only, that isn't quite in orbit. This is a sub-orbit altitude Small thrusters fire and as it's horizontal flight over the eastern seabord draws closer to land, it starts to face the planet's surface below.

Faith Lehane has posed:
Faith Lehane doesn't usually come this far from home, but she's been out job hunting, and it seemed a good place to start looking for a proper paycheque. Thievery will only get you so far afterall. All the bustly busy kids and parents readying for school gets a scoff from her, not really a fan of education to be fair, but whatever.

She continues down the street, but pauses, seeing..something odd in the sky. Is it a bird? A plane? Or....?

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Westchester is indeed a rather lovely place to live and generally, pretty quiet! If you discount the historically strange government raids on the school nearby, the strange happenings and explainable things that happen thanks to an occasional student losing control or what have you.

It's a good place to go for a drive and today? Today the yeen is out on his motorcycle, enjoying the road and the warmth of the day.

When he takes note of something in the sky though, he pulls over to observe it, pulling his helmet off to study it for a moment before his ears lay back slightly and he mutters, "Oh gods.. Not again." Then? Then he pops the helmet back on, keeping an eye on the object as it descends, revving his engine slightly before he starts off, trying to see if he can figure out where it's going to land.

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r just so happens to be lazily drifting over Westchester County in New York State, not for any particular mission, but merely to go sightseeing and explore the beauty of Earth. Self-powered flight and no secret civilian life makes such activity much more doable. As such she's a ground zero for whatever is going to happen, by pure happenstance, fortuitous or otherwise.

Kory is wearing her typical superheroine costume, swimsuit-shaped, colored purple with red highlights and made up of as little actual covering as she can reasonably wear without angering the authorities.

Her attention is on the ground below her so she doesn't immediately notice any falling object. But she starts to see more people looking up and pointing, at first assuming they are noticing her?

Doctor Doom has posed:
The signal is too easily missed by normal measurements -- yet the keen technological might of Doctor Doom defies such trifling concerns, an orbiting spy satellite detecting the trace signatures and running them through finely-tuned algorithms to separate them from background noise. A small drone emerges from said satellite and propels itself forward, tracking the pod and broadcasting its location to Latveria's intelligence apparatus in real-time.

And far, far away, the tin tyrant himself sits upon his throne in a room surrounded by monitors, coordinating actions with his machine servants and guiding the distant drone. His left hand is clutching a gem-encrusted goblet made of shining gold, filled with a fine wine taken from his own vineyards.

That's an important detail. Doom is a classy fellow.

Shredder has posed:
Naturally, Koriand'r's presence is something definitely noteworthy. The device several thousand feet higher than her does start to make a presence. It's plummetting as a kinetic arrowhead shaped device, and it starts to cut through the air. It's orbit is too low, Doom's intstruments would be able to indicate. It's trajectory before its descent shouldn't have been possible. The only way it could possibly have had that trajectory without power is...if it came from the surface of the Earth. But no nations have fired any form of weaponry that would achieve this object's location.

All the same, it falls, and those on the ground who have seen Koriand'r, and maybe the object far beyond her are treated to a sudden gleam of the sunlight off the metal, making it more visible. In only a few short seconds, it's closed an incredible distance. Less than 15,000 feet now, most people are still more interested in Koriand'r for...obvious reasons. The object is moving quickly though and it's closing in on the ground at speeds that make it's impact alone an impending threat.

Faith Lehane has posed:
Faith Lehane narrows her eyes, peering at the object as it rapidly descends, shaking her head. "Well, ain't that fun? Wonder what that's about?" she continues to follow its trajectory, trying to make some mental calculations as to where exactly it might land. Might be fun. She's more concerned with 'fun' right now than 'safety' really.

And oh, she does spot the colorful superheroine in the sky as well. No doublt she will deal with it and that will be that. Still, it might be fun to watch at least.

Starfire has posed:
Starfire is waving excitedly to the people pointing up at her who have started trying to get her attention... eventually she realizes some of them are pointing not directly at her. She turns to look and sees an unknown object screaming down from the sky, although it is actually outpacing its sound so there is no actual screaming.

Kory's hair tips are only lightly afire as she had been flying so slowly, but as she turns on a dime mid air and accelerates upwards her hair blazes into a flaming red contrail behind her. She passes the sound barrier with a small boom and then goes even faster, pushing hard to reach Mach 6 to close on the object before it can land on someone.

But when she gets near, something unexpected happens. Kory curves around in an extreme change of arc and nears to within a hundred feet of the device... and just like that the fire halo of her hair winks out. They are moving so fast that it's almost unnoticeable, but for a split second she was in freefall not powered flight.

That short time is enough for the object to outpace her, and she hurries to catch up. It happens twice more, powers disappearing each time she gets near, and she gets more frantic. She finally charges up a full power Starbolt and hurls it at the thing from outside the radius.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
Light.. Light is the one thing that can cause this sudden turn of events and when the sunlight gleams off of something near what he was observing? The yeen suddenly yelps and slams on the brakes as his eyes snap shut, tires screeching as he tries to pull towards the streets shoulder, but he winds up on his side instead, skidding across the road for a foot or two. Thankfully his current garb - cycling armor - keeps him from being injured beyond a few scrapes and bruises.

Now laying on the asphalt, the yeen finally opens his eyes, peering up at the thing... Things? in the sky now. "Two of them...?" he manages to groan, then pulls himself up and starts checking his motorcycle for damage.

It's going to need a new coat of paint and a little bit of re calibration, but beyond that it's still drivable, so he picks it up and gets back on.

Before he starts driving though, he taps his phone and speaks, "Message to all nearby staff. Unidentified object descending from orbit over Westchester. Assistance required, possible medical aid for locals if the object impacts at current speed."

Doctor Doom has posed:
Within the shimmering cocoon of his monitor room, Doom, his dreadful mask gleaming with the light of a half a hundred reflected displays, begins to piece together what's happening. The on-site drone is not equipped with meaningful weapons technology, bearing only a small solar battery with a single-charge laser shot (that also, conveniently, fries the internal mechanisms, sabotaging scavenging efforts), but with a full array of built-in sensor technologies. Fed by these streams of data, the plugged-in Doom is practically there in person.

"Master," a robotic voice declares. "The object's trajectory has been analyzed, and indications are that no nation has.."

The voice drones on, informing Doom of relevant information. He sips at his wine from a straw projected out of his mask.

Shredder has posed:
As the people around see Koriand'r try to engage the object, people start to realize that something may be wrong. It's moving quickly. Too quickly. Koriand'r's starbolt slams against the reflective hull. It's not indestructable, and the impact sends it spinning, clearly lessening it's speed, though it's still intact. There's damage to the hull which creates drag. It is headed straight for the town. No, not quite. About a quarter mile to the side, in undeveloped wilderness. Still very close. Too close for people in town.

A dart that passes out of sight behind the buildings and trees of the town as it beats Koriand'r to the ground. It isn't heard for a moment, then a deafening CRACK lets out as the device impacts with the power of 50 tons of dynamite. The shockwave flattens more than half the distance to the town, the closest trees are sawdust upon being struck. The shockwave bursting forth levels trees, then it reaches buildings. Some survive, some don't. Force is channeled through the streets, a cloud of dust and debris is headig straight for the town square.

Faith Lehane has posed:
Well, isn't that just grand? Faith watches in wide-eyed horror as the object seems to weaken Kory, and if it can do that to someone as powerful as her, what might it do to someone with less power? She sighs, about to call it a day when Kit crashlands next to her on his bike..

"Well, hello, what do we have here?" of course she's eyeing the bike more than him, but he probably will put up an annoying fight before she can steal his bike from him. "Forget emergency, we gotta deal with that thing now! How about you give me a ride to where that thing landed and we'll worry about calling the police and EMS later?"

She steps towards his bike, pulling it upright. And actually has the courtesy to wait for him.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
The yeen takes note of Faith and motions with his head. "Hop on then." he says as he taps the phone again. He starts to say something, then the loud boom of the explosion and the yeen? The yeens eyes just sort of gloss over for a moment as a sudden surge of violet energy suddenly crackles over his entire body, engulfing the motorcycle for a moment as well.

When Faith hops on, he mutters, "Hold tight." before slamming on the throttle. It's a Shadow Phantom that's been geared for fast acceleration, so while it's a nice ride, it can also get up to a fair speed in only a few seconds.

It'll only take a minute or two, though that minute or two could mean the difference between life and death for people in town and he knows it, so he's not going easy on that throttle for any reason this time.

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r's smirk of satisfaction as she sees her Starbolt damage and slow down the projectile quickly turns to one of horror when she realizes how close to the ground they have gotten. She charges up two Starbolts, one in each hand, but there's no more time to aim at the thing.

A massive explosion, though not as big as it could have been, expands outward from the impact, and Kory pushes harder than she's ever pushed before to try to hold back the shockwave, blasting down Starbolt explosions on the ground in clear spaces willy nilly at the edge of the town square in an attempt to counteract the wavefront.

She's crying tears as she couldn't save everyone, not even close. So much pointless death. At the last second she has to make a choice and rescues a little girl who was out playing, covering them both with her personal forcefield as she hugs the girl close while smoke and debris blows past them.

Doctor Doom has posed:
A diaphanous green shell sparks around the sleek Doom-drone, its thrusters auto-correcting to balance in the turbulence of the shockwave the impact delivers. The machine wobbles and sways in the air, stabilizes itself, and the green energy fades, leaving the drone hovering over the ruined husk of a small home.

Beneath the drone, trapped under the rubble, is a young woman and her child. Sensors indicate they are alive -- though there's a third person, deceased, nearby -- but injured, and crying out in pain and shock.

There is enough charge to power two more activations of the drone's force field. Doom was wise not to expend extra energy and shield the family beneath. The drone carries on, leaving the wounded family in its wake. There are important matters to attend to -- specifically, reaching ground zero before pesky heroes interfere.

Shredder has posed:
The shockwave sends so many pieces of debris. the houses on the edge of town have very little hope of survival as the impact washes over them, blowing them apart like paper. Some of the brick homes have slightly better survival. Roofs fly apart, one of them smashing against the forcefield that Starfire has used to protect herself and the little girl, breaking like a wave against it. There's screaming in the town square as the wave of impact washes through the streets. People are knocked to the ground. Mothers and fathers pull their children underneath themselves to protect them from the debris, or else take refuge on the lee side of the buildings. Here, where the population is denser, the impact has been reduced by hitting so many trees and neighborhoods, it's far less carnage than if the impact had been direct. Car alarms ring through the streets, dust filling the air. What was seconds ago a happy scene is now one of devastation. For several seconds, most people have nothing to do but sit in shock, an incomprehensible attack having just struck their sleepy little town.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
It only takes a few minutes and the yeen blows past Koriand'r on the motorcycle, the debris in front of him parting in it's flight as tendrils of that violet energy lash out at everything that could possibly hit the driver or rider.

In towards the worst of the destruction in town, that's where the yeen is going to start, though when he notices the drone taking off, he shakes his head and takes off his helmet, letting his ears perk and his senses take over.

A sobbing woman, a crying child.. Those sounds are the first to catch his ears when he finally cuts the engine, slams on the brakes and skids to a stop. His body hasn't even left the bike before the debris of the home begins to fly free of the two who are trapped beneath it.

"I'm here to help," are the first words the woman and child would hear as the debris comes off of them almost like magic. "Are you injured?" It's a stupid question without the context, but in a situation like this? Triage is a thing. Prioritize the injured or dying that can be saved. If they aren't too badly hurt, they wouldn't be a priority.

He's trying hard with his tone to not sound intimidating. He's aware of how he looks, what he is and how people react, but perhaps the people here, who have seen him so often and know of his humanitarian antics around town, might not panic at the sight of a giant hyena.

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r allows the girl to cling to her in the aftermath, until a woman comes running to her, bleeding from lacerations but uncaring as she races to her little girl miraculously saved by the superheroine. Kory gently whispers to the girl that her momma is here, and she is transferred in a happy reunion.

Starfire cannot heal others with her energy, a fact that she bitterly regrets in this moment looking at all the devastation and staggering wounded. But search and rescue, that she can do. She has very good senses, and quickly flies to any buildings that she can hear sounds of people trapped or hurt, and begins to pull survivors from the wreckages of homes. She will be on the lookout to coordinate with police and emergency services when they get they begin to respond, but for now she works to save as many lives as she can.

Doctor Doom has posed:
There is only so much time. Social media will flood with a tide of posts; local authorities will rally; state, federal, and extra-national organizations might even turn their attention to the incident. Before there is an onerous amount of interference, Doom wishes to survey the area and, if one reveals itself, secure a flight recorder, or a similar sample.

"Filter the alarm frequencies," Doom instructs, and moments later a computer intelligence responds, suppressing the wailing of the innocent and the incessant beeping of the cars alike for the pleasure of its Master's ears. "Continue to the crash site. Launch a retrieval team."

"As Doom commands," echoes the enslaved artificial intelligences that are as Legion amidst Doom's robots, a trio of them already en route. They'll be there... surprisingly soon, but not immediately.

Doom drinks once more, and finds his goblet empty. He clicks his tongue in disappointment. "01, fetch another bottle," he commands an attendant at his right hand. This one is human, but has no name, his identity long stripped away in service to Doom.

The man slinks off.

Shredder has posed:
It's hard to understand what's happening for the mother and child. They are stunned, which prevent them from running in terror from Kit, but they are hardly in a state to be properly thankful. The mother clutches her little one and she just stares at the distruction, and stares at Kit, stares through Kit. She's in shock. There's no shortage of people trapped beneath debris, or trapped in buildings. One would think that it doesn't get much worse than this.

One would think.

Ground Zero, however, tells a different story. The impact wasn't the purpose of this strike, it was just a very effective distraction. The wounded device in the ground suddenly opens, sticking out of the ground where the tip had plunged itself into the ground. It unfolds, bracing itself unevenly. The blast from Koriand'r had damaged one of its compartments to support it, and it leans to one side. On the sides it reveals large gaping holes, and another is revealed on the top. Suddenly, the sound of a fan can be heard coming from it, a sound that's not unlike that of a jet's turbine. Air starts to be sucked up into the device, and blown out the top, though the exact reason may not be quite immediately familiar.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
The yeen takes note of the blank stare and sighs, looking the woman and her child over. A gash on the womans arm gets a glance and the yeen reaches out a hand, delicately stroking three claws over the wound before she can jerk away or protest; if she even could in this moment. A violet energy spreads through her wound from his claw-tips and the wound itself begins to seal, the flesh swiftly knitting back together. It will leave a scar, but nowhere near as bad as it would if it had healed naturally.

Then the yeen finally takes note of Koriand'r flying about, helping people out of the rubble and barks out, "Hey!" his voice suddenly amplified by his own nature. "Bring the injured here! I can tend their wounds until medics get here!" He is, after all, a capable healer. Even if his magic isn't exactly gentle about it at times.

The sound of the air rushing further away though gets the yeens attention, his ears swiveling to observe it, but it's not going to have his immediate attention yet.. Too many people to help at the moment.

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r hears Kit's call and alters course immediately, landing next to him with her current passenger, an old man with broken legs she had been taking to an ambulance. "You can heal? Thank X'hal! I will bring as many as I can to you, the most serious first!"

And then after placing the hurt man down carefully she is off. The next minutes bleed into each other as Kory works with the yeen to save what seems like an endless line of people. She knows precisely where the object landed, having watched it impact. She worries about what might be happening there. It just doesn't take priority. She'll get around to it when she can. When people don't need her.

Starfire's enhanced stamina will let her go for days of activity without rest... but seeing so many dead and wounded is slowly breaking her heart.

Doctor Doom has posed:
Doom's drone does not help in the rescue efforts; its only purpose is to maintain surveillance, getting preliminary scans in and keeping eyes on the crash site. Similarly, when the device begins to gulp in air in great lungfuls, the drone makes no immediate move to intervene -- though the forcefield is ready to activate in case of danger. The en route retrieval team will have more meaningful armaments, but for now... Doom watches.

Shredder has posed:
It takes a moment to be visibly obvious. The air is starting to look different. There's an almost reddish hue to the area around it. It's not a red smoke per se, but something in the air causes light to pass through it a little differently. Scans show very quickly exactly what is happening. This device is a terraformer. The reddish hue of the land starts to extend, and is carried on the wind which pulls at the altered atmosphere, and it's drifting in the direction of the city.

In town, many people respond. It's a mixed bag, though. Some don't care who is offering help, as long as they are offering it. People with their injured friend and family start limping toward Kit's voice. Others, upon seeing him, become suspicious. "He probably caused this!" one man declares, knowing that certainly a mutant that looks like this is probably in league with the attackers. Some bark back at him to stop being racist. Others say that no one can know for sure. A few that are more desperate try to slip past the ensuing argument, bringing people to Kit in desperate hopes of saving their loved ones' lives.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
When the older man with broken legs is set down with him, he immediately apologizes for what's about to happen. His magic isn't kind, it doesn't take away the pain of the process, but it does make quick work of forcing the bones back into place, and fusing them back together. All that's required is for him to 'paint' one end of the bones with that violet energy of his, then use his telekinesis to jerk, pulling the leg and resetting the bones. Then it's just a matter of knitting the flesh.

Though he's making quick work of the injured - actively going to his own limits and beyond in the moment - It's slowly taking it's toll. Dozens of small tears have formed over the skin of his arms beneath the fur and they're working their way across his body, his own muscular structure tensed to the point of fairly literally ripping his skin open slowly.

Thankfully, the bandages he constantly wears under his clothing are doing their job at keeping the blood and the wounds hidden.

The cries of those who accuse him might hurt in the moment, but he's used to it and he simply doesn't respond, focusing more and more on the wounded in spite of the panic others might be feeling.

Any wounded who are brought to him would be tended to in order of severity, man woman or child, whether they were one of the ones accusing him or not. There are more important things at the moment than arguing with the ignorant.

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r speaks up on behalf of Kit who is too busy healing and seemingly unconcerned to defend himself. She angrily rounds on those who are ungrateful for free healing and leveling accusations.

Her mere presence is usually enough to cow the blustery types, especially when a green aura flares around her and wisps of that same but more concentrated energy curl around her fingers. She isn't charging Starbolts as she has no intention of hurting even the yeen's detractors, she just gets angry easily and loses full control of her power when her emotions roil.

She has started to notice the changing air color in the distance and her worry has grown. But only when the need for her emergency flight has lessened will she check out the source.

Doctor Doom has posed:
As the wounded are tended to, and the red hue spreads, the drone immediately projects its forcefield, obstructing any foreign particles from contacting it. A default safety measure when exposed to unknown substances. Such a low-level shield can only be maintained for a few minutes, but it should be enough.

Guided by their Master's will, the retrieval team descends from the sky: three humanoid robots, with featureless, blocky purple faces, thick, artificial silver limbs, and sleek, purple armor. They split up -- to take samples of whatever gas or substance is spreading, one to run more robust scans with more advanced tools, and the third moves to the machine itself.

What will it do? Who knows. But it is wiser to destroy it than wait to see and plunder the remains. It's armed with a simple laser rifle.. and an itchy trigger finger.

Oh, and still, none of them help with the wounded. Doom is a humanitarian -- and so he will labor for the benefit of mankind, not a handful of irrelevant civilians.

Shredder has posed:
A yelp from the older man causes one of the nay-sayers to point. "He's not healing, he's hurtin' people!" The others who are against him agree, only to shrink back when Koriand'r presents herself, and they seem a little less willing to act directly in a known hero's presence. Others take the opportunity to criticize those who are against Kit's healing, and some continue to banter that the discussion needs to be happening still.

It continues this way as animals that survived the blast start to flood through the area. Squirrels, deer, dogs, cats. There's even a bear. They wearily run into the square, frightened at the people they encounter, but they continue running, causing little direct distruption, but they are all going the same way. Away from the reddish tint that is now visible over the city and heading toward the city. It almost looks like a sunset sky, only it's far too early to be sunset. And the sun doesn't normally set in the north.

The drone's forcefield seems to be ignored initially. The machine just continues to keep pumping the new atmosphere out. But it does prevent any more changes, at least for the moment. The air around has already been committed, drifting on the wind in the direction of the town, so the danger is still there, but for the moment no more is being spewed out.

Then the retrieval team arrives, and suddenly it comes to live. The machine extends another six inches, a center ring popping out. A device pulses to life, spraying energy blasts out directly at the retrieval team. The forcefield is not taken into account, causing several of the initial shots to spark against the resisting field. It does make it clear that the air change at least isn't particularly combustible.

Doctor Doom has posed:
The robots are a streamlined Servo-Guard model, the iconic machine troops of Latveria, and they are well-programmed to handle themselves in hostile situations. Their simple intelligences and combat algorithms see their foot thrusters activate and begin evasive maneuvers in the air, splitting up and surrounding the attacking machine. Sample collection and measurements are abandoned for now -- instead, the rifle-armed leader of the pack hefts up his gun and launches a thick, red beam of amplified laser light, searing the air itself.

The other machines draw similar rifles, evading and firing as necessary. Inevitably, a few hits are taken, but in the end this is a terraforming device against three military-grade Doombots. Only when hostilities cease will the team seek to salvage the device..

.. and if Kory should happen to try and interfere, one robot will seek to make off with the goods, while the other two will engage her. It's not personal.

Kit Killovarras has posed:
When all is said and done and those who were critically injured are no longer at risk of death or permanent disfigurement, the yeen finally tries to relax, the sound of a bone or two popping can be heard from his body as he reaches to his armored coat to take it off, revealing the now blood-soaked bandages that are pretty much holding his body together right now.

Then? Then the yeen walks over towards the group of people who believed he was here to cause harm. He's laying himself bare in a way, revealing the damage that healing the others did to his body and when he's close enough that a softer voice could be heard?

The yeen bows his head ever so slightly - almost apologetically - and finally speaks, "If my form has caused you anxiety, I apologize. I simply came to help those in need." He doesn't sound mad, he doesn't let his emotions into his voice right now, even if he wants to. There are no bared teeth, no growl, not even a hint of his fur going up.

As the animals skitter through town, he gives them a glance and sighs, then lets his voice raise a little as he calls to the crowd, though his attention is still on the group that was blaming him earlier. "We need to head further from the blast zone. If anyone is having trouble walking, let me know and I'll see what can be done to ensure everyone can evacuate safely!"

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r finally decides that the press of people needing her ferrying services is less needful than whatever the device at the impact site is doing to cause the growing red cloud. The frantic escape of the animals is the final alert she needs that she should really do something about it. She gives Kit a sad smile, seeing all the damage he took to heal others. A touch of her fingers on his shoulder and a whispered "You are a true hero. I will remember your sacrifice today."

Then a rocketing arc of fire trails as Kory takes off to where the projectile crashed draws the eyes of the near-panicked citizenry, reminding those who forgot that there is a genuine superheroine on the scene and doing her best.

Starfire's forcefield is on full protection as she enters the particulate cloud. She has the ability to survive even in space with no airbreather, but that doesn't mean she's not wisely cautious about letting an unknown gas cloud touch her skin.

She follows the sound of combat from the thing firing energy blasts at the Doombots, and their responses. She arrives to see them just finish destroying the remains of it... and two of them turn to her as she flies in with two green Starbolts charged and her eyes alight with that same green energy. She recognizes the Doombots, and ... decides not to interfere, this time. "Doom." she says, knowing he can hear. "I don't know your purpose here. You have defended the Earth this day. I will not stand in your way. For now. Do not seek to frustrate my efforts to save people and we have no problems." She waits to see what happens, still ready to defend herself but not firing, yet.

Shredder has posed:
The targetting system on the device is remarkably quick, but its armor is limited. Soon it is shot up by the servants of Doom. However, they didn't hit it as hard as the explosion seems to reflect. A self-destruct mechanism causes it to burst into a fireball. There are salvageable pieces that remain, something that might give pieces of the picture, but it's certainly in more pieces than one might desire. In the passing next few hours, military is on the scene. Emergency rescue teams, no doubt representatives from a few hero teams will arrive. This is the type of thing that makes international news. The town is quartered off, more than half of it uninhabitable due to the strange air. It'll dissapate, but it will take time, and the exact nature of the change and how it will affect humans is not yet known. What is known, is that Westchester was just attacked, but by who?

Doctor Doom has posed:
One of the featureless robots, not too burned by proximity to the self-destruct, turns to face Starfire. Across its blank metal visage flickers a holographic image of Doom's own face, his voice emitting from the machine. "Go, and rescue your people. Doom is done here."

And the machines take their leave, before the cavalry arrives.
