Quote
"You aren't Magneto, my little mutant. He can lift the Golden Gate Bridge and never feel a strain. But you are bound by the same laws of physics as the rest of us. For each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Whatever forces you exert elsewhere, your body feels equally. Be careful you don't rip yourself in half." - Hydra researcher to Vi.

Profile

A Hydra forced labor camp where thousands toiled daily in mines and a foundry is a hellish place for any. Worse for a child born to the place, never knowing the outside world, her mother, or if she even has a last name. But the girl known as Vi grew, and escaped that place and the torturous Hydra research lab that she landed in when guards spotted the use of a weak mutant power. Vi stowed away on a freighter that has taken her to a far off land, where a giant green woman holding aloft a torch seems to guard the harbor of a great city. With little understanding of the world she finds herself in, Vi sets forth into this new world, armed only with the materials and research she took with her during her escape.

Description:

Vi stands about 5'2", with a petite build that is small through the waist but has enough feminine curves otherwise to suggest she's at the end of her teen years, certainly so when one includes the maturity in her face. She probably weighs little more than 95 pounds fully clothed, and is the kind of small-bodied person that is easy for others to overlook.

The undersized girl has dark brown hair that often has an unruly look to it. Dark eyes peering beneath soft lashes give glimpses of apprehension, and frequently avoid meeting the gaze of others for very long. Her facial features have a certain delicateness to them. Vi's ethnicity is difficult to place, with just a bit of exoticness to her eyes and a medium skin tone even when she lacks the tanned skin that come easily to her.

History

History1:
Hydra has a mine and foundry hidden in a mountainous region of Sokovia they refer to as Echo Location. With three semi-active volcanoes nearby, the area is deserted but for guards, staff and a few thousand captives held in their town-sized forced labor camp.

Echo, as the laborers call it, is a hellish place with too little food and no medical care. The result is an impoverished town-like environment, with an economy based on ration cards. Vi was born into this world, cared for by an older brother after their mother died.

She grew up amongst other urchin thieves in a cut-throat existence, hiding from guards and stealing to get by. Like many born in the place, Vi is on the smallish size. It could simply be hereditary as her brother was not very tall either. Though some believe the growth of children in the camp to be stunted by lack of food and by drinking water contaminated with the frequent ash falls from the volcanoes. Her brother disappeared one day, she thinks likely killed by Hydra guards while on a thieving run.

History2:

Vi had a great secret which helped her survive. She had noticed a sense of warmth and power within her. She soon found she could harness it, sensing metal around her, and pull the metal object to her. Using it would cause the power to fade and it would take days to replenish. But it was enough to help her pull valuable metal goods to her, or create a diversion to cover other thefts.

Until the day she was caught using it by a Hydra guard. The teen was sent to a lab for experimentation. Hydra scientists figured out Vi was a mutant who had a power they dubbed Allomancy. The ability to consume and 'burn' a small number of metals, and use the energy to fuel effects. Her original power was fueled by iron in the drinking water, and took a few days to build up to a useable amount in her body.

Researchers forced her into tests of her power, and to ingest metal compositions looking for more that would fuel her mutant power. Each night she was forced to ingest aluminum which it was found would cause any metals she burned to immediately dissolve.

Eventually Vi escaped, taking a cache of her fuel metals with her, as well as much of their research, though the illiterate girl could not read it. She stowed away on a freighter carrying refined products from the foundry off for other Hydra purposes. Destination: New York City.

Personality

Personality:

Life was cheap in the forced labor town known as 'Echo' where Vi grew up. Living with other orphans in a small criminal underworld, betrayal was a constant concern. A necessary tool to survive. In Vi's experience, everyone will betray you eventually, it is just a matter of how long it takes until it is worth it to them. The kind of thing she found it hard to even blame others for. Even though she believes her brother was probably killed by Hydra guards, she can't help but see his leaving her as the largest betrayal of her life.

Despite all of that, Vi is generally a good person at heart. If she ever works through her trust issues that would be evident. She is a resilient person. Should someone get her to the point of truly trusting them, that bond is likely to be a strong one.

Undersized even amongst others her age in an environment ruled by force, Vi often stays quiet to try to go overlooked. Usefulness in part is what kept her alive, as the tricks she pulled with her mutant power seemed to make her a good luck charm for the group.

She has very little understanding of the world outside of the hellish camp she grew up in. Never seen the ocean, a forest, doesn't know giraffes. She has seen cars, mining and foundry machinery, even helicopters, but has little concept of how they work and no idea how to use modern technology. She can't read. A lot of her story will be coming to terms with how the rest of the world differs from Echo.

Abilities

Allomancy:
Vi's mutant power requires consuming small flakes, pebbles or dust of specific fuel metals and 'burning' them in her stomach to fuel effects in her body or surroundings.

Hydra researchers found four fuel metals that she can use when ingested (pewter, tin, iron and steel). A fifth, aluminum, Hydra found will cause attempts to burn other metals to use them up without benefit until she can purge it, and is a weakness. Fuel metals need to be of a specific purity and composition or effects are diminished.

Metals can be Slow Burned for weaker effects, but lasting longer, or 'Flared' to get more powerful effects but the metal is depleted rapidly. Metals can be stopped and started burning at will. Effects in the middle scale accordingly in duration, as would minor effects below the Slow Burn level.

If there are other, unidentified fuel metals that Vi can use, she would have to encounter them in the correct pure composition before her body would learn how to burn them. Discovering additional metals and powers would require an approved +sheet entry by staff in advance.

All fuel metals may be burned simultaneously if chosen, and in many cases multiple metals are required to create an effect safely (i.e. Steel to brace herself on one heavy object, Iron to pull another, Pewter to avoid the combined forces harming her).

Metals can be replenished at any time by swallowing more, but Vi will get sick if she has too much in her stomach at one time. At ST discretion she might be able to go beyond her limits with other consequences. See the Sick Stomach weakness.

Enhance Body: Pewter:
Strength/Agility/Endurance/Speed- At Slow Burn her physical attributes improve from scrawny girl to Olympic athlete for an hour, Speed and Endurance for two hours. Flared can give 30 seconds of Strength/Agility equivalent to Captain America (physical only not skills), or 5 minutes of running Speed, before the Pewter is depleted.

Durability- A Slow Burn would let her take punches like a heavyweight boxer for an hour, survive a big fall, and insulate her against low level detrimental effects of her own powers. Flared might let her take super strength hits, survive an explosion, only be nicked by a hit from a sword, or survive the most tremendous forces of her own powers. Fully Flared lasts a minute or less.

Healing- Can be sped up to 5x normal human levels by a Slow Burn. Heal a bruise overnight, a broken bone in a few days. No lost limbs or other things a human will not normally recover from. Pewter is the only metal that can be used while asleep (required for overnight healing). Flaring will not speed up Healing.

Note: Pewter is often required in conjunction with Vi's other powers at higher effects to strengthen the body to prevent those other powers injuring herself. A slow burn gives all of the above effects, but flaring would only benefit a single one.

Enhance Senses: Tin:
A Slow Burn increases the five senses beyond human but short of Daredevil or Black Panther for an hour. Partial night vision, hear heart beats, recognize familiar people by smell. Flared, she might manage a Daredevil feat like picking out a voice in the city, or detecting poison in a beverage. Lasting for less than a minute.

Can be stunned by sudden sensory overload especially when Flared, though burning Pewter at the same time would lessen it. Touch is also enhanced, so pain can be worsened, a too-warm surface might feel like being burned alive while flared.

Pull Metal: Iron:
While burning Iron, Vi can sense all nearby metals within 100 meters.

Can Pull metals towards her in a direct line towards her chest. No up-down or side-to-side motion so this differs from telekinesis. Also, if an object's effective weight is lighter it is moved. If Vi's is lighter, her body is moved.

A Slow Burn could pull with 100 lbs of constant force sustainable for 3 hours. Flared fully might lift 5 tons for 20-30 seconds.

The following details apply to both Iron and Steel

- She gets a sense of the metal's mass and size only.
- Her body feels the force. Burning Pewter is required to avoid injury at higher levels of force.
- This is not magnetism, just "a force" that affects metals only. So no extra effects inherent to magnetism like creating electricity.
- Does not work on adamantium, vibranium or other comic rare metals. Nor aluminum (her weakness metal), nor metals within and part of an organic being. Yes on a sword stuck into someone, no on surgically implanted metal pins.
- Can Pull more than one object at a time, it just depletes her fuel metal faster. To move an object that is heavier, she would generally Pull on an even larger object in the other direction to brace herself.
- By Pushing or Pulling off heavy or braced objects, Vi can propel herself into the air. This is more like Spider-Man using webs to change his direction, than it is like Superman going anywhere he wants. She can slow her fall with her powers if there are objects around, or burn Pewter to survive a hard landing.

Push Metal: Steel:

Identical to Pull Metal With Iron, except it is a Pushing force rather than a Pull.

Skills

Quick Wit:
Vi has survived largely on her wits and intelligence. Whether that means coming up with a fast lie that plays to her audience, finding a hiding place in the nick of time, or taking what she observes and quickly employing it in a useful fashion. She is intelligent, but by no means a genius.

Street Fighting:
Vi was undersized and weak growing up. She avoided fights whenever she could. But if it came to it, she'd throw dirt in people's eyes, use a pointed object jutting out from her closed fist, whatever it took to survive. She is not up to the par of most superheroes, however. Not a trained fighter, just willing to fight dirty.

Thievery:

Vi grew up a street urchin committing petty thefts to survive. She is experienced at moving quietly, hiding, lifting objects from people, and averting suspicion. She can free climb better than most but is not a master cat burglar by any means.

Resources

Metals and Research:

Vi grabbed the researcher's cache of vials of her four metals, plus aluminum, from the Hydra lab on her way out, as well as papers and digital storage on their research into her power. The metals could be used as samples to determine her optimum fuel metal compositions, or it could be read from the research by someone who is literate (which Vi is not starting out). Assuming Vi develops a means of obtaining more metal, she will keep a fair sized cache on hand plus a few stashes in various hiding places for emergencies.

Weaknesses

Aluminum:
If Vi has aluminum in her stomach and burns any other metal, all of her fuel metals will disappear in a flash leaving her without a power source, briefly disoriented and slightly nauseous. After discovering her reaction to the metal, Hydra would make her do this before locking her up for the night. She also cannot Push or Pull aluminum for some reason.

Family Matters:
Vi's brother disappeared when she was a girl. Disappearing in the work camp generally meant they were caught by Hydra and killed. However this may or may not be the case.

Fuel Metal:
Vi's powers require metal in her stomach to function. Pewter, Tin, Iron and Steel each having a different effect. Without them she is essentially powerless. Purity matters. While she could scrape some iron off an object and swallow it, odds are she would only get a weak effect compared to a sample of the correct purity and composition. Generally they need to be prepared specfically for her to be full strength.

Hydra:
Hydra knows Vi has a mutant power, and consider it useful. They had plans for her they do not want to give up if they can get their hands on her again.

Illiterate and Unworldly:
Vi grew up in Echo Location, a Hydra mine and foundry using slave labor from a town-sized work camp. She was with other orphaned kids, living as an urchin, later getting into a little more of the black market and underworld as she aged. There was no schooling of any semblance of a modern education. She cannot read, or do more than simple math. While she has seen cars, machinery, lab equipment and even helicopters, she has no experience with them. She doesn't know the countries of the world. As a kid born to Echo, the stories about other places not like Echo seemed fanciful.

Sick Stomach:
Too much metal will make her sick to her stomach and she will eventually vomit up the contents of her stomach, which limits how much of each metal she can hold. The maximum strength of her effects is generally independent of amount, but the length they can be maintained depends on how much she has in her stomach. At ST discretion she might be able to go beyond her limits with other consequences, such as nausea, headaches, not being able to hold down metal at all for a time, etc.

Suspicious:

In a place with too little food and other resources, there is a constant struggle to survive. Betrayal was common. Vi even had trouble being upset at people who betrayed her in some cases, knowing she'd have done the same to survive in their place. So she is suspicious of everyone, assuming everyone's focus is on their own needs first.
