Description
Description:
The vastness of his muscles cannot be understated. They roll with thunderous obscene weight and immensity. His torso bared and exposed, revealing vast masses of flesh that seem to grind together with the force of the movements of tectonic plates and ripple and lurch like herds of animals fighting beneath his flesh. Particularly wide shoulders stretch the distance of the width of some city streets while his pectorals are especially thick, hanging huge and heavy and casting shadow over a midsection blocked with stomach muscles the size of windows. A wide legged stance leads into legs so enormous his thighs literally roll over one another as he walks, causing him to have this rolling thundering gait wherein he swings one leg out before the other like the monster of all bodybuilders.
Glowing white eyes, a broad expressive face with a flat nose and a huge jutting jaw sporting a thick red mass of hair are the features of a head that sits atop a hulkish neck so huge it threatens to swamp it from sight. Another thick mass of red hair sits atop his head. A necklace made of metal discs rings his neck and sits on his chest with tendrils of purple hued energy crackling between them. A similar aura can at times be seen around him, giving him a soft glowing hue. His legs are covered in green. muscle hugging leggings while a white sash wraps about this waist, tied into a knot on his left side. Two metallic bracers circle his wrists and gigantic heavy soled combat boots adorn his feet.
History
History:
The origins of the being known as 'Gigas' (His original name unpronounceable by human standards and so roughly translating to 'Gigas') lie with the history of a long dead precursor civilization that once lay in a distant corner of the Universe: The Thran Collective.
Ever at war with their sibling civilizations, their expansions ultimately lead them to battles with ancient entities known as the Stellar Intelligences who sought to consume entire civilizations in their march towards oblivion.
Turning to science and sorcery, The Thran began to empower their legions of soldiers with enhanced might, creating various super soldiers to hurl against The Intelligences and at the culmination of this, they sought to create a champion to spearhead their counter attacks and put forth a great effort at creating a warrior and summoning a force to animate it.
To their surprise they succeeded, perhaps too well, managing to tap into nothing less than the primordial principle of strength itself that was part of their pantheon of gods and cosmic forces. Connecting itself to the physical creation of the Thran, it breathed life into it, animated it and further empowering It beyond the Thran's initial calculations and efforts. It began to perceive the corporeal world through the construct's eyes, bringing the being now known as Gigas to life.
Gigas fought their wars for them and in those early days when his strength was at its peak, his feats were of astounding, so much so that when the war finally ended with the Thran victorious, they found themselves dealing with a being of seemingly infinite strength and appetite for greater challenges and new sensations.
Gigas left his summoners and traversed the universe by various ways and means ranging from the use of Thran technology at creating wormholes to passage aboard ships, or personal transports he was able to gain now and again. Typically where he went, trouble followed as he was impulsive, battle hungry and had little sense of boundaries, limitations and restraint. While he made some friends, he made more enemies and as he continued to make a nuisance of himself, The Thran were pressured into finding a way to restrain him or rid the cosmos of him all together. This ultimately culminated in a combined effort to capture and hold Gigas in a specially prepared stasis pod that would interfere with the presence of the animating cosmic force. Once within the connection was gradually blocked and he ultimately went completely inert. The stasis pod was sealed away in a derelict prison ship that was set adrift with the thought that he could be one day re-awakened once the means to better direct him and control him could be put to use.
The Thran were near the end of their peak at this point in time and as time passed, Gigas was lost to them and eventually their civilization faded away. The giant was forgotten about until the modern era when his prison was discovered adrift in local space by traveling colonialists who were pursued by space pirates. The technology that was sealing him was old and unstable and when his prison was caught in the middle of the battle between these two forces he was awakened. Freed from the stasis pod, Gigas' body's connection was immediately restored to the cosmic source with his strength rapidly accelerating towards gargantuan levels though he found it was ultimately a fraction of what it had been with the long imprisonment having had a side effect of greatly reducing him from his previous levels. Still he proved enormously powerful and when attacked by the aggressive pirates, he responded in kind, ultimately leading to their defeat.
History2:
Personality
Personality:
Though hedonistic and single minded to a fault, he is smarter than he appears regarding his awareness and understanding of the metaphysical and abstract nature of things, but he still come across as a gigantic jock or frat-boy brawler which tends to mislead others into underestimating his intellect and abilities. Despite this, his tendency to focus on the challenge and the search for new sensations can cause him to be out witted by more patient and intelligent sources and he's found himself on the proverbial wrong side of the law many times just due to listening to the wrong people and taking what's been told to him at face value. Though such things do work themselves out, it's often after much trouble has resulted.
The quintessential battle-brawler, he enjoys a good fight and seems to remain perpetually at ease with himself and the rest of the world - which isn't to say he doesn't have a moral center nor that he's immune to the emotions such as anger or fear. Disrespect and underestimating him is bound to earn his ire and he cannot abide bullies even though he does believe that those who are strong have earned certain flexibilities within society in comparison to those who are still weak. He has the potential for great heroism and even team work but one must ultimately be able to contend with his loud, boisterous, ego driven and sensation seeking behavior in the process.
Abilities
Immeasurable Strength:
Though he claims to only have a fraction of his previous abilities, Gigas possesses what is classified as a Class 100 strength. Such a description is academic at best as attempts to quantify his limits have proved fruitless for they seem to be for all intents and purposes immeasurable by normal means. He is competitive with the likes of an enraged Hulk, proving capable of moving Capital Class Ships, raising and carrying landmasses, bracing himself against incredible kinetic forces, and unleashing punches that trigger seismometers far from his present location.
Super Leaping:
Though not quite as developed as the powers of The Savage Hulk, Gigas can nevertheless perform super leaping on a scale that approaches Hulks and can range his leaps from being able to leap the height of a large building, to extensive and extended travel distances enabling him to cross country sides with extended time in the air. His leaping speed and reflexes also aid in combat, enabling him to strike someone and send them sailing and then leap to overtake them, sending them into his waiting arms for a follow up attack or grapple attempt.
Super Breath:
More developed then most powerhouses are Gigas' lungs. With effort he can inhale and exhale with enough force to produce extended hurricane force wind, directed either as a wide dispersed cone over a widening area or a more directed blast.
Shockwave's and Earthquakes:
Similar to other powerhouses, such as The Hulk, Gigas can clap his hands together to produce shockwaves of incredible pressure on the same level as The Green Goliath with such force capable of blowing out fires and blowing back explosions, temporarily deafening others and deflect hurtled objects. On a similar fashion, stomping the ground or striking it can create localized quakes of varying destructive force ranging from knocking over those in his immediate vicinity to more damaging results in his localized area, again, akin to the Savage Hulk in potential intensity.
Invulnerability:
For all practical forms of measurement, Gigas seems effectively impervious to harm at the very least on a level of durability that is concurrent with his peers an equal to his vast strength. Gigas is capable of withstanding tremendous levels of kinetic force, explosive energy and impact so much so that coupled with his immovability he can appear to be practically indestructible. Against physical assaults this seems to be the case with his ability to shrug off the mightiest of hits and keep fighting on the level of the likes of Thor, Kryptonians and others like them. To a lesser extent this is true of energy as well though directed energy attacks of sufficient power and perpetual impact will begin to wear his defenses down before physical and kinetic.
In practice there are some limitations. While he can exchange blows regularly with some of the most powerful, his durability versus cutting attacks from weapons forged of super alloys is somewhat less. Weaker then these will fail to penetrate his flesh. In this he has more in common with the likes of, say, Wonder Woman, then Superman.
Stamina and Recovery:
Gigas possesses stamina that seems to be only slightly less concurrent with his strength. In short, he does not tire easily and is well capable of battling alongside his contemporaries and against them without slowing down or losing drive. These abilities mirror similar from the likes of a Hulk, enabling him to appear effectively tireless and capable of tremendous feats of resistance and endurance where his physiology and reserves of energy are concerned. While he enjoys the sensations of eating and breathing, his body's cosmic energies sustain him and he does not need to eat or drink to survive and can exist unaided in the vacuum of space and in harsh planetary conditions.
Gigas does not possess regenerative abilities on the scale of Hulk or Wolverine but his massive stamina affords him tremendous health such that if he does sustain injury by means of unusual abilities or encountering power capable of overwhelming his defenses, he will heal -very- rapidly and recover at a rate comparable to Thor or other powerful Asgardians.
Unaging:
Gigas seems effectively ageless. His body could be compared to an animated construct by the cosmic force that inhabits him and gives him personality and agency. As a result, he has immunity to forced aging effects or the wear and tear of the years.
Visual Effects:
Energy Discharges:
His body begins to produce energy discharges around him in the form what of what appears to be electrical currents that mimic his purplish aura in color. These discharges are not attacks or harmful and could be compared to a form of his body 'venting steam' so to speak in the form of ambient cosmic energy. At best they give off minor static-shock charges to those holding onto him but they otherwise do not impair others.
Size Alteration:
The more Gigas exerts himself, the bigger he begins to get, growing in size via minor growth abilities that are sub conscious in nature and linked to his levels of aggression, excitement and how much effort he is using. Normally he stands around eleven feet tall but he can expand as large as sixteen when in full combat mode. This visual size increase is not an indication of any sort of power up as his abilities remain as described and although the size increase does bring with it logical benefits and flaws. His added size may grant additional reach but it also makes him a larger target and hampers his maneuvering abilities and further limits his ability to enter many locations.
Skills
Brawling:
Epochs of adventure and brawling have lent Gigas extreme skills in physical combat and perfected use of his own physical power. He uses no martial art style when fighting, preferring spontaneity and the type of frat-boy/street brawling usually associated with bricks and others of immense strength.
Galactic Knowledge:
On a similar note to his cosmic knowledge, Gigas travels and exploits have earned him a galactic reputation in some quarters of the known cosmos and also afforded him great knowledge in regards to alien races, empires, interstellar events, and others space based content that one used to dealing with the galactic community has undoubtedly encountered over the years. This effectively means he's familiar with organizations like The Nova Corps, The Lanterns, The Shi'ar and so forth as well as places like Knowhere.
High Concept Theories:
Resources
Contacts:
In his travels, Gigas has managed to make some friends and others who are simply willing to tolerate him for the good use he can be. He's worked as a mercenary and bounty hunter, acted as muscle for various cartels and groups and even aided lawful agencies and planetary governments of some worlds in positive fashions. In particular he's befriended a Ravager mechanic that is willing to keep The Gigantes running and repaired when it needs work done, and has a name among various mercenary guilds and adventuring groups as someone that can be reached out to when extra power is needed. This, however, also means his reputation for troubles can also precede him as not everyone is all smiles when he appears.
Galactic Stash:
Resulting from rewards claimed during contests of champions and payment for mercenary work, Gigas has a cache of resources in the form of galactic units and items of various worth and value which can be traded and bartered when the Galactic Unit is not applicable or recognized. He can effectively be considered 'well off' despite his vagabond like behavior and is capable of paying for and supporting a high roller life style, paying for transportation, information and other such things that might occur and require a transaction of resources.
Gigantes:
The Gigantes is a small freighter class ship that Gigas acquired in the aftermath of a battle with bounty hunters who had previously been using it but later abandoned it. Calling upon a Ravager mechanic who owed him favors for past mercenary work, Gigas was able to have the ship converted into a vessel with an interior space for himself as well as the capacity to take on a few passengers and controls sized appropriately for him, which was a reasonable feat due to some of the previous hunters having been members of an alien species of larger then human stature. The ship is fundamentally little more than a semi-truck in space, having travel capabilities and basic defensive shielding, the ability to land planet side and accommodate cargo and passengers, but lacking in any armaments or special tricks to make it unique unto itself.
Propulsion Boots:
Gigas has a pair of Propulsion Boots, given to him in the past by The Thran who called him into being, and that serve the purpose of enabling him to maneuver freely in a vacuum and to a lesser degree in low gravity locations. They provide forward momentum at speeds and maneuverability similar to tech employed by Star-Lord. The boots, like the rest of his traditional garments, are composed of material like The Unstable Molecules in use by many Earth heroes, meaning it does shrink and grow with him. Despite this, in gravity considered concurrent with Earth's, they will not function as a safety feature to prevent overheating or potential damage from attempting to propel him aloft.
Uniform:
Gigas wears what remains of a traditional Thran Military Uniform, which is significant only in that it is constructed of a specialized material that mimics the effects of Earth-based unstable molecules meaning the uniform will shrink and grow with him as his size adjusts. A necklace that exhibits glowing energy discharges and was itself a symbol of rank and heroism, is also part of this ensemble. However, it has no effect outside of looking impressive and alien.
Universal Translator:
Weaknesses
Cosmic Source:
Gigas' is essentially a kind of golem. A physical construct that is in turn animated by an external non corporeal force. He is both connected to -and- an aspect of the force itself, serving as a means for it to interact with the world and express a form of sentience capable of experiencing physical reality. He bears similarities to early incarnations of Drax the Destroyer or some explanations of the relationship of Juggernaut and Cyttorak in or a Kryptonian and Yellow Sun Radiation.
It is possible that some forms of super-tech, unique powers capable of manipulating energies that are cosmic in source, and other like minded abilities, can find a way to interfere with this connection. As this happens, Gigas weakens and loses more strength and mobility and completely severing the connection can render him inert in body and effectively shut down mentally as well. Such efforts must be maintained or he will regain his connection. Gigas will rapidly return to his standard power level after a connection has been re-established. In the past an -extended- separation by means of a coordinated effort resulting in a stasis chamber imprisonment designed to restrain to him did result in an overall power reduction but this was mainly due to the extent of time he had spent in this prison
Ego:
Gigas can be easily manipulated and otherwise tricked, strung along and taken for a ride by means of clever manipulation of his massive ego and search for adventure. He is overconfident to a fault while not being invincible and can quite easily find himself in over his head or pulled into circumstances that smarter and wiser minds are capable of dealing with.
Reputation:
Gigas has had an career resulting in a mixed bag regarding opinions of him. Though he has acted as a mercenary here and there and even performed some good deeds, he's still managed to rack up bounties by ticking off the wrong people or leaving damage in the wake of his brawling and impulsive antics. He can show up in some databases dedicated to listing potential menaces or warning others about him with some information about his abilities and known history available to those with access to security information. This isn't as extensive as say the reputation Lobo may have, due to the fact that Gigas has only fairy recently returned to action, but it is not dissimilar.
